Title says all.
I've only experienced TomTom 6 and now i'm using v7. I find it quite slow to be honest. I expected more from it. I'm using UDK R7 and my device is quite fast. But TomTom 7 disapoints me a bit.
Has any1 tried another application that runs faster and does a nice job?

Hi there,
I currently use iGo, it's really faster and more efficient than tomtom ! :)

I must agree!
I'm very pleased with iGo!

That depends on which part of world you live in and whether all the required maps are available .. !;)

Agreed with previous poster.
But, if you live in Europe, specially Eastern Europe, iGO is the best.

iGo iGo iGo..... By far. the only delay I've ever experienced is on load with iGo is geo-caching the addresses - UK based.

Seems i buck the trend and use TomTom7 - i have igo8 on it as back up but find its not as good for finding address with postcodes.
I prefer the UI in igo8 but i prefer the use in TT7

Mobile Navigon 7 (PDA version) could also be a good choice; I use it for over 6 month by now (with my X7500) and is really good. I also have the iGo 8 (full Europe ... cracked ) and TT 6 (full Europe licensed); from all, I prefer Navigon 7 (also full Europe and licensed).
Cheers.

Hi,
This is probably a silly question but will iGo read TomTom maps? I've got TomTom 6 but judging from the praise for iGo on this thread it looks worth a go but I'm concerned about having to buy a new Western Europe map.

Hmmm... not sure the maps are the same format...
Actually, I believe they are not. iGO format is *.fbl, but there are also buildings, POIs, speedcams...
When you buy iGO, you also state for what area. My iGO came with maps for 26 Central/East European countries...
There are several packages, so choose wisely.

I've TomTom7 and Igo8 R3 on my Poalris.
But the favorite is IGO8 :):) Igo is faster and the skins are great.

Remarkable that none has picked Garmin Mobile XT as the best so far. I use it with great pleasure both in the car with Europe NT9 and onboard the boat with the BlueChart Maps.

I just had a look on the Garmin site - it is not clear whether you can buy the nav software for the PPC, or do you have to get the nav hardware?

i was going to try iGo but the maps are old and there's nothing worse than being steered into a brick wall.

Garmin Mobile XT, then add the maps you need
It is nearly the same GUI and software you find in the Garmin devices, with additional features related to connectivity

I just installed iGO8 but it says "GPS receiver not found".
I'm using Syrius UDK R7, and i also have TomTom7 installed and it works fine (laggy but fine).
Does any1 know whats going on?

Try sygic or route 66 mobile 8.
Sygic is fast and is very easy to work with this program.
Route 66 have the best maps and precision when you make long "drivers".

Tenta por o sygic ou o route 66. Se for para usar em Portugal, usa o Ndrive 3 (que tem o nucleo do iGO mas adaptado por nos "tugas")

TT7 works a treat, co-pilot was okay but to be honest i find tomtom a lot better

The important point is the freshness of the maps...having said that I use daily tomtom 7 with v8 maps in all France and never been lost :p

Ive tried tomtom and copilot.
I think copilot is far better. Really easy to use, no useless menus. Works great on the polaris. As an added bonus it accepts tomtom POI files and you also get free speed camera updates each month. I think tomtom charge for that. Traffic updates is a subscription unfortunately.
Copilot lets you track your phone on the internet too.
Put it this way, Tesco, Royal Mail and various utility companies use copilot. I did download Garmin and got rid straight away. Glad I didnt buy it!

For anyone who needs an excel compatible Logbook like I do, then Navigon MN4, 5, 6, or 7 are the only option (AFAIK, plleeaase tell me if you know any others).
The downsides are, slow startup, slow screen update, instability, the tunnel bug in mn6 which stops navigation if you lose the GPS signal (oops!, that's gonna be a bit of a problem with a Diamond/Ignito then isn't it?), slightly weird routing, and high memory usage (especially when combined with POIWarner).
Oh! and did I mention useless customer service?
All just my own opinion of course

I am planning a 4 month bicycle tour around E. Europe (mostly Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia) so am looking for a suitable nav system. I currenly use TTN6 with W. Europe maps, but it seems their E.European map coverage is unavailable for TTN6 and limited for TTN7 both in coverage and quality? Hence I read with great interest users recommendations for iGo in E. Europe. So a few dumb arse Qs:
1. Can I copy the files from the supplied dedicated SDHC card to my existing Sandisk 8 gig (soon perhaps to be 16 gig :) card? Like everyone, I want music and other progs etc. Can I just pay and download prog + maps?
2. In iGo is it possible to plan routes suitable for bicycles? i.e off main roads etc. In TTN6 I end up using the 'walking' option (which will route you down paths in town etc), rather than the 'bicycle' option which is not at all different from 'car/road'.
3. What sort of detailed coverage can I expect in the countryside from iGo maps? For example, in Romania, do the maps differentiate between paved and unpaved small country lanes etc.
4. I'm using original WM6. Presume no problem?
Thanks
Bodisson

1. No, not legaly. AFAIK, original iGO 8 comes at max 2GB SD and just copying files to bigger card doesn't help. However, I might be wrong.
2. Yes. Take a look at 1st and 2nd capture.
3. Dunno. Never opened map for Romania ;)
4. Hmmm, presume not...
Edit: On 6.0 you could use older version of iGO (which are NOT working on WM 6.1!). However, I don't know what is "freshness" status of maps for those versions...

Copilot is nice, but it is to simple for me.
Maps are also shocking out of major cities(Australia).
I like garmin xt more, it works well on my tc, and has more features.

Thanks iGo does have Aussie maps and i have a trial version and it's quite good. very configurable, many more options than tomtom. as far as performance (on my HTC Cruise), iGo is smoother in the 3D map (less jumpy), but calculating the routing is about the same. I am having trouble with getting the speed limit to show, but other than that it is great.

To speed up Tomtom 7 just turn off a lot of the POI's.. you can still navigate to them jsut fine by name, but they won;t always be up displayed on the map... Mine went from being un-usable to faster than igo.. and much more stable as well

Using Garmin mobile XT actually for only one reason and that is that i own a garmin mapping GPS so i have all the maps which i can upload onto the polaris.
Pros:
Lots of maps available, both topo and road and self made maps
Using Garmin mapsource on pc to keep track of waypoints
Has route tracklog (saves the roads you drove) and mapsource can read them
Traffic re-routing through phone network (have data contract)
Cons:
Slow when whole EU is loaded if you want to pan on the map
Traffic information not always up to date camera's are though
Going to try Igo if it has traffic jam updates

Don't bother, since Polaris has no TMC hardware. Ergo, no traffic jam updates.
