I made a simple cab from the registry settings that you install to device memory, then soft reset and use any voice recorder (HTC Voice Recorder, VITOAudio Notes, Resco Audio Recorder) to record both sides of the conversation. I have tried it with several Roms, dialers and skins too and it works fine with all these and no adverse affect on normal conversation :)

Might be worth cooking into a Rom to give 2 side recording as standard.

Tested and working on the following Roms:
SimpleOS Xtralite v2.1, HyperDragon 4th Feb, PDA Corner Ultimate v17, v19 & v20, Anryl's 15/3 6.S rom, AthineOS WWE, WM6.5 betas (HyperDragon and PDA Corner works with HTC Voice Recorder and VITO Audio Notes, rest confirmed with VITO Audio Notes).

Download the 2_Way_Recording cab (rapidshare) *HERE* (http://rapidshare.com/files/209276443/2_Way_Recording.cab)

EDIT: Made a new cab combining my 2 way recording plus the incall enable edit from pocketnow.com to enable BOTH sides to be recorded clearly from the dialer menu after a call has been established. It does not affect the ability to use a 3rd party app if you want, just gives you extra ease so you dont have to load any new programs up when you are in a call. Install the following cab to device memory, then once a call has been established just goto the dialer menu and select record. It will record in .wav format and save the recording to the Device\My Documents\Notes folder.

Download the 2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording cab (rapidshare) *HERE* (http://rapidshare.com/files/218023994/2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording.cab)

I tested on two different roms. The first rom from Anryl's 6.S rom 21179 didn't work. Tried two radios (didn't take note since it didn't work). Was using Resco audio recorder and when in record mode, call comes in, message popped up saying cpu overload.

This morning, I tried on SimpleOS Xtralite v2.1 and with the radio recommended (1.70.18.02), it works. The audio from far end is rather soft during playback.

Congratulations!

Tested on Anryl's 15/3 6.S rom after fresh flashing. Works with 1.70.18.02 radio. I only have SMS restored, Resco Explorer, PCMKeyboard and Resco Audio Recorder installed. Didn't get the cpu overload problem. Need to complete my Exchange 2007 Sync and finish installing the rest of the apps again before I test again.

Recording volume is rather soft though, even though volume had been set to maximum, same as for my TyTN II volume.

Thanks to everyone involved.

Vito Audio Notes was tricky to figure out. I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times before I got the settings right.

Move the yellow equalizer all the way to the left when recording. Set the microphone gain to high.

If you move the yellow equalizer all the way to the right, it will only record very loud sounds, which doesn't work for recording phone calls. If you set the microphone gain to low, the recording will be hard to hear when you play it back. You'll have to hold the speaker up to your ear.

I dont know you should try it lol its only a registry edit rather than overwriting drivers and if it doesnt work you can uninstall it :)

Yeah I know what you mean I have been looking for some way to record both sides of a conversation for about 3 years when I got my old Hermes. Even tried going through bluetooth to my pc and recording that way lol. All it took was a few simple registry changes to allow this. I was always told it was a hardware problem and would never be possible lol. Im happy now :D

When I went into my registry to test this method my values was already set as the original post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3463124&postcount=75)...
I wonder if this is what ICR does, is it the same solution??? Have anybody done a deep analysis of the ICR cab?

Ok let me know what happens :)

After you install ICR the only way to get rid of it is a Hard Reset. Not sure how they will work together maybe the registry edit will bump up the volume with icr.

I think the registry changes are more compatable then using ICR as alot of people seem to have problems getting it working.

Report back ;)

I guess if your recorded volume didnt increase then ICR is taking control of rerouting the incoming sound. With JUST the registry changes the volume is very loud. I had a 30 minute phone call yesterday and VITO Audio Notes recorded both sides perfectly. Maybe you could try a hard reset sometime to get rid of ICR and then try a comparison with just the registry cab :)

Well I originally installed the ICRQVGA cab from your thread on HDIV 4th Feb and got it working (after a couple of attempts) but the recorded incoming volume was extremely low.

Then I installed PDA v20 and installed the registry cab that I made, reset the phone and it worked great first time with really loud and clear incoming sound. I know the general volume in PDA is louder but ICR did seem to give worse recordings. When you get round to hard resetting and trying the registry cab then let me know.

I tried this registry mod after unsuccessfully trying the ICRQVGA cab (which fails due to insufficient system permission). However it also does not seem to work on my HTC Vogue running NFSFAN 1.29 ROM.

When I use VitoAudio 1.37 to record all calls, it seems like it is recording, and recording shows up within the program's list, but it 0kb and when I go to play it, it disappears from the list. Also, the recording folder is empty, so these files do not seem to be created at all.

Isnt a simple registy change that gives you 2 way recording which everyone said was impossible not a good enough solution? lol

Theres no headsets that have voice recording built in to my knowledge.

I found a new way, u don't need to install ICR, just edit the registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN]
"AUDIO_DEBUG_FLAG"=dword:00000040
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"RingingAddressId"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev]
"VocRecPath"=dword:00000002

I couldnt find the first registry folder "Audiogain" Do i just make it along with the registry value?

Thank you nick_martin and thanks to mskip.....

You guys are awesome....I remember days when ppl got flamed for asking this question "Need software to record calls and conversations"....the explanation was that kaiser is limited by its hardware capability and will not be able to do this....and now it can.....

This is one good reason why I recommend this website to every single friend of mine who owns a windows mobile device.....No matter what the problem is.....the xda guys always find a solution.....thank you so much.....keep up the good work....

And yes....I did my own test before and after installing the fix....
I recorded the calls in the regular method (not through the loud speakers) Before the registry change the sound was too dull.....it was whatever the mic can pic up from the small ear speakers......after the fix the recorded sound quality was amazing.....great work......My phone configuration is in the signature....

A way to know if will work or not is look at:

"rilphone.dll" for "RingingAddressId" string. ( use hexeditor).
"wavedev.dll" for "VocRecPath string". ( use hexeditor).

"AUDIO_DEBUG_FLAG" SEEMS NOT MANDATORY and no idea what file use this.

Look that rilphone.dll is related to RADIO from phone ( its a good choice always use the same rilphone.dll fro the same radio you rip).

Pity mine beloved UNIVERSAL not work.

Damn thats an old operating system lol i think its about time you joined the flashing club dont you :p

Did you soft reset after installing the cab? Try making a test call and use the built in HTC Voice Recorder to record the call. If you dont hear anything then your old WM6.0 Operating system is probably not compatable with the registry entrys.

You could always try ICR_QVGA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=169410&d=1237874552), it should put a Start recording option in the call menu after you establish a call but it doesnt work on all devices and its more picky about the operating system than the registry hack is lol. Read *HERE* (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485783) for more info on that.

Hope something works out for you.

Works on my Cingular 8125 with SVI's A4-B2 Angel ROM.
I used the record feature in Notes.
Now to figure tweak to save notes to SDCard.

I found it in options under notes. You can change from main memory to storage card.
Now to decide which button to change to "record".
I notice in the options you can set it to stay in current program when the record button is pressed.

Yes, I did soft reset after had install the .cab in the main memory. (Actually today I uninstall it -soft reset- and I install it again -soft reset- -just to be sure- ..and then I tried HTC voice recorder..)...NO luck, DOSE NOT WORKING!.

I have to tell you -I notice that today-. As I was reintalling the .cab In the last screen was written .."successfully installed" ..bla ..bla ..."if you need space ..empty some space" AND ALSO ..something like "this application may not work properly because was written for an older -how much? I thought I had THE oldest- version of wm". I just registering this information down, I dont know if it means something.

..Now Regarding ...ICR_QVGA I install it (took back the same message .."may not work ..older version") I went to "programs" I tap it and I took back something like "this can not run here" !! End of ICR_QVGA-story.

So .... . . I was afraid to upgrade my Rom ..before, some how, after you wrote this myth-breaker miracle .cab I AM NOT AFRAID ANY MORE !! YEEA!!

I have a purpose now (before all the Rom was about the same to me) now I know out there there is ONE (or more actually) that the magic .cab is running (crazy me!?!?).

I also felt that I have the oldest Rom in this entire forum.
..again ..I have the original ones
Rom: 1.56.405.5 and Radio: 1.27.12.32

One (small) think here. DO I lose the one year guarantee (remaining) if I shift Rom ?
Should I ask from the dealer to upgrade my phone?

..Whatever is the answer... tell me this !
Witch combination of Rom&Radio is THE BEST AND ..how can I have it? (Who should I kill?)

Technically if you flash a custom rom then you will void your guarantee. If anything goes wrong with your phone and it needs returning then you cud flash back your original rom and SPL (stock roms can be found in the wiki) which will put it back to a factory state to be returned. Probably not worth asking your dealer to upgrade the rom as you will more than likely be charged.

As for the Rom/Radio combo its all a matter of taste and what you need from the rom. Personally I have always used and loved HyperDragon. The one I have on my phone right now is HyperDragon IV 4th Feb (http://www.4shared.com/file/93109083/98d9c45e/HyperDragon_IV_IOLITE_WWE_20090204.html). It has everything you need in a rom and its extremely stable and fast. As for the Radio it depends on your location and network. The radio included with the rom is 1.65.24.36 and is a good base to start with.

Read through my Flashing Your First Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835) guide. If you have a windows xp machine then it should be a very easy process (some people have more problems with vista). If you do want to give it a go then pm me or post in the thread if you have any questions or problems :)

mine ..wm@6.1pro original build19212.1.0.3, rom3.29.707.0wwe, radio1.65.16.25. after install the cab ..not working ...

try several methods .. my phone only have voice recorder ver1.1(build130.817) under htc.

I think maybe who ever working is b'cos they have installed ICR or Vito before ..which the register key still inside the phone ... or maybe not compatible with HTC voice recorder ...

It has nothing to do with ICR or VITO. I have installed this cab after a fresh flash with neither ICR or VITO installed. The registry patch works but I dont think it works on stock roms as all the people who seem to report their phone not working dont have cooked roms flashed. It definitely does work though and should work fine with the standard HTC Voice Recorder. Thats what I originally tested it with.

Excuse me,

Resco Audio Recorder 4.01 has setting to record the call conversation auotomaticly, [Action - option - General - Tab Phone.],
so would You tell me, why we must change the registry again to record the call conversation?

But, yes the sound is very low. :)

Thank you.

There are call recorder in resco.
But in the HTC Rec, I didn't see the record.

Or, where is the HTC Rec folder?

Alot of the HTC phones including the kaiser do not initially have the capability to record both sides of a conversation when talking through the built in speaker. Programs like VITO Audio Notes and Resco Audio Recorder have the setting to record calls for phones that do have this feature built in. On the kaiser you can record calls without the registry fix but you have to have to speaker phone turned on to be able to hear anything on playback.

Installing the 2_way_registry_fix enables 2 side recording which you can then do using an audio recorder. If you dont install it then all you will be recording is what the mic picks up during a conversation.

Hope this answered your question.

So, what audio-related software on the working ROMs is letting this function? I'd love to know because I can't put another ROM on this device till the warranty expires :)

Well you could quite easily upgrade to a flash rom it just depends how much you wanted to lol and it wouldnt be any effort to flash back to the stock rom if u needed to since its a 6.1 rom ;)

Hi Fruschke.
Thanks a lot for the tip regarding low audio.
I was looking for something like this, however didn't think it would hide under "Filters".
Will give it a test tomorrow.

P.S. Couldn't wait - changed the settings for Gain to "louder" - excellent sound!!!

Added a new registry patch to the first post to enable recording directly from the dialer menu once a call has been established. Its called 2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording (http://rapidshare.com/files/218023994/2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording.cab). Again NO files get overwritten its purely an addition to the registry.

Read the first post for details. :)

It is wizard with SVI's Final Angel. Everything else works using notes record feature. I just could not get the menu item added to pick record from the phone menu while talking. I also tried setting my hold 4 button to record and that works too.
So the 2 sided record works, but the menu tweak does not work for me.

If you dont need to upgrade and dont really need to record both sides of a conversation then stick with what you have. If you want to try out a MAnila2D based Rom then the 2 I would recommend are HyperDragon 4th Feb (http://www.4shared.com/account/file/93109083/98d9c45e/HyperDragon_IV_IOLITE_WWE_20090204.html?sId=ySzpND RXZTsXjslL) Edition which is very fast and stable, or PDA Corner Ultimate X beta2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261) which has loads of features and is a very good Rom. The phone notes feature under the menu while talking on the phone is nice since it tags the date and caller. I think I'll stick with it and try to figure out how to have it show the recorder as it opens the note instead of having to go to menu under the note and tell it to show the recorder.

ROM Date: 10/24/08
Radio Version: 1.09.25.14

Thank you for this update/cab/research
I briefly changed phones to Nokia to get this functionality for an important patch in life but have always wanted it on the HTC

I would like to report that phase 1 has been successful on the new HTC Touch Diamond 2

I know a lot of people will be happy about this -

Phase 1 consisted of installing your patch and testing it with Notes (the recording functionality in notes)

I am going to test on Vito or something that can be run in the background to record all incoming/outgoing calls but just looking into what is good + not resource hungry

Thanks again

First thanks to nick_martin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=445084) for originally posting this in the ICR for Kaiser (2 side call recording software) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3463124&postcount=75) thread.

I just made a simple cab from the registry settings that you install to device memory, then soft reset and use any voice recorder (HTC Voice Recorder, VITOAudio Notes, Resco Audio Recorder) to record both sides of the conversation.

If you use the regedit to get the record function on the dialer menu and then use that to record the conversation then I dont think you can change the destination path. If you want to record to the storage card you will have to use a 3rd party app such as resco audio recorder or vito audio notes.

Did not work on my Stock HTC Kaiser with SPL 3.29.
I got bricked or semi-bricked.
I had to reflash my Original ROM to get it up again.

Has it to do with what SPL and ROM you are using?

Since a SPL is somewhat a BIOS (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL%20Questions%3F) and you are using some regkeys to activate hardware at boot.

Isnt PDA Corners ROMs from a Hermes originally??
I think i read that somewhere.

I could be wrong on this, but i dont think so(yet, theory in progress).
When a manufacturer buildt a new PDA they make a SPL that will act as a hardware communicator and then they build the drivers for the hardware to communicate with the SPL.
After that windows communicates with the drivers, obviusly.
So if you take a Hermes SPL(just saying so to get my point) to get a Hermes originated ROM to work it would be because the Hermes drivers needs that.
That would answer the SPL 'Jidder' (Jidder= swedish word for messy, no order, chaotic)
One SPL could talk to the hardware ok but the drivers cant talk to the SPL as they want to, if get what im after.

Well whatever, since it looks like its Not so good idea to install this on a Stock Kaiser as i wasnt the first to say "it doesnt work" shouldnt you say that on 1st post also.

Other then that, lifes ok :D

PS.
Mind tha spelling, englisch isnt my native language, whiskey is.
N i have started my own kitchen, swedish delicacy's only.

As title, it works on my O2 Stellar with official rom upgrade to WM6.1. But my own voice is softer than the voice on the other side in the recordings... is there value in the register tweak that I can change?
Also, I can't seem to be able to locate the "record" option in the dailer menu (and which program is it suppose to launch)
I manually launched notes voice recording and HTC voice recorder, but both cannot run in the background, which mean that I can't press the keypad (for DTMF tone) and record at the same time. Do I need some other application to achieve background recording? Or would the "record" option in the dailer menu do the trick?
Thanks!

Its pretty much been proved now that it wont work on stock roms. If you want it to work you will have to flash a custom rom such as PDACorner Ultimate.

If you try Resco Audio Recorder theres an audio gain option which makes the incoming voice very loud.

btw, i found out the problem is not releated to your cab. I uninstalled it and the problem persists. Weird.

I like to ask some question... what is the latest version of your 2-side call recorder? I see that in your download folder has 2-way record.cab and i saw you post "plus version" and fixed version so which one is newer?

And If I installed and then uninstall....will there be any adverse effect left ?

Both the 2-way and the plus versions contain the same registry entrys to enable 2-sided recording. The plus version just adds the "record" function in the dialer menu so that you can record directly without needing a 3rd party app. This however records to device memory.

Which one says fixed version?

Which one says fixed version?

Ok....I just misunderstood...:) cause I saw you said this on 27/3/09

[ """"" Installing the 2_way_registry_fix enables 2 side recording """""which you can then do using an audio recorder. If you dont install it then all you will be recording is what the mic picks up during a conversation.

Hope this answered your question.]

Great job Skip, I got this working using your cab. Really convinient to have the nice little "record" option right in the menu. Also, I did a side by side comparison vs. your built-in method and Resco Audio recorder and yours was much clearer, especially on the "recieving" end which would be the one with most signifigance.

Thanks for your work.

Unfortunately neither "HTC Calling Record 1.0" nor "2 Way Recording" worked on my Trinity, with ROM "Team CV93+Oggi WM 6.5 OS 21501" :(

Even after installation of "2 Way Recording.cab" I get the following warning: "The program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows software."

Don't worry about that message, because this is a simple program, your device thinks it's a WM 2003 app. That message is displayed a lot and has no effect on whether it will work or not.

Make sure you have a folder called "Notes" in your Device\My Documents folder.

I tried it once and it didn't seem to work then I realized I didn't have the folder so once I created the folder, it worked.

I just made a simple cab from the registry settings that you install to device memory, then soft reset and use any voice recorder (HTC Voice Recorder, VITOAudio Notes, Resco Audio Recorder) to record both sides of the conversation.

Hi,

I'm not fluent in Spanish and English language, I use the Google translator, I hope I understand.

Use your first "cab" ( "2_Way_Recording.cab) and Vito AudioNotes on my Qtek S200 and it worked perfectly in the recording of telephone conversations in both directions.

I have now changed to a HTC Touch Pro, and this "cab" and Vito AudioNotes listening too low to call by phone, you just listen.

I installed its second "cab" ( "2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording.cab). He had little time to prove it, but it seems that will work best. I try more.

When you take away the "cab", the register of Windows Mobile "is correct, as if there had been nothing changed to the" cab "?. I soft reset my HTC every time you install or remove.

I can help you with this problem of recording the talks?. I have the HTC Touch Pro ROM and the original factory radio (HTC), to have no problems with the warranty (it bought a few days).

I found out how to store records to storage card

You need to set your NOTES to storage card. To do so, click on Start and then Notes. If you dont have Notes in start menu, you find it in all programs.

Once you are in Notes, click on Menu and Options and set Save To to be Storage Card. This should save all your records to storage card under Notes.

What is the importance of the 3 numbers when I turn on the device. obviously R is radio but D is 1.62.00.00 does this mean the ROM family, and G is was wierd?

Any custom Rom will work with any radio thats compatable with the operating system its built around so your options are open.

Thank you for this GREAT post. I wanted to let you know that the 2_Way_Recording cab works perfectly on the WM 6.5 using the following ROM:

Bare WM 6.5 23009 Cooked ROM with unnecessary items removed.

However the 2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording cab doesn't add the manual recording menu.

I would really like to enable to manual record mode as well. So if you know of the solution please let me know.

Thanks again. Having two way recording is a life saver!

Hi,

Using Official WWE Rom 3.29.422.1 and Radio 1.71.09.01 (Protocol 25.75.40.02.eMo) without any mods here are my results :

1- With Shmilson and rr69 ICR cab method (I have tried each cab with hard reset between) impossible to launch ICR (always error message saying that ICR File cannot be opened Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found) and Phone Menu Record Option never appears. Same with .NET CF 3.5 Installed.

2- Using mskip 2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording cab and ACR Auto Call Record 1.2.2 (GSM or WAV) it work but sound volume is very very low, voices can't be heard, and Phone Menu Record Option never appears.

3- Using mskip 2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording cab and Vito Audio Recorder with Audio Gain Control sound volume is good but voices are little robot type, Phone Menu Record Option never appears ... but it works.

Thanks to all.
If someone have some advice working with ICR or ACR with volume boost or maybe WM Rom or Radio Version to ameliorate thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

stock tmous htc touch pro2 - works like a dream. i like the incall menu one-touch record option, just had to throttle down the record quality so i could record longer calls.

is there a way to make this save to the storage card? just a request, not a critique.

this works great for me!

Good day,

I am a noob, so forgive me if I am in the wrong forum and do point me in the right direction.

Here is my problem. I previously was able to use voice recorder that cam with the tilt to record meetings that I attended for work.
After WM 6.5 came out, I flashed my phone with Anryl's rom 21725. I wasn't able to locate voice command within this rom, so I downloaded the cab.

However, I am unable to get it to work. I get an error message saying " the file recorder cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file." How can I fix this?

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

from this archive (http://rapidshare.com/files/324360029/myppc.ru-1253510725_record_line_diamond.rar.html) or from Attached Files (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=259274&d=1261486763)

1 Install SDKcerts.cab ( It would make all registry modifications )

if you get a error message with File_explorer use Total commander (http://tcce.s3.amazonaws.com/ce3/tcmdpocketarm.cab)

Hello mskip

I appreciate your efforts to find a solution to this problem with HD2, I think it's good luck for us that you have this device to make this feature working

I've lost this advantage when shifted from HD to HD2

I have read in the net that this problem is due to built-in HD2 phone application and which don't contain VoIP support and I do not know whether or not the validity of this, I mention this may help you

Waiting for your success in reaching a solution

I tested on two different roms. The first rom from Anryl's 6.S rom 21179 didn't work. Tried two radios (didn't take note since it didn't work). Was using Resco audio recorder and when in record mode, call comes in, message popped up saying cpu overload.

This morning, I tried on SimpleOS Xtralite v2.1 and with the radio recommended (1.70.18.02), it works. The audio from far end is rather soft during playback.

Congratulations!
On my HTC HD2 -official ROM 1.48.479.1 WWE, is working (sometimes :)) That means... when i am calling someone, he can't'hear me everytime and i have to call him again. About the record quality....it is very good, works in 2 ways. But the other person's reception problem (sometimes) is a big inconvenience and i haven't ideea what can i do to remediate it..... sore more registry tweaks (others then that 3 lines,up wrote) or.... i don't know...
Thanks in advance..

Hi mskip,

great work here. hope you can help as I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong to be able to record 2-way successfully.

I'm on Miri's 6.5.X 1.5 on HD2 and I installed the 2-way recording cab. I get the options to record and have done so already quite a few times. I can only hear my voice though and not the other party on the line. How do I get around this? Also, is it possible to record in another format aside from .wav?

Thanks! =)

EDIT:

I listened to the recording and there was a "hint" of sound being recorded from the other party... but hardly anything comprehensible... I guess the question is how to make the recording of the other party louder without using any 3rd party app (or maybe even sue the built-in voice recorder?)

Thanks:)

Just a few days into my 'new' (purchased on craigslist, not much used) Kaiser, I was getting a bit desperate thinking recording calls was lost to my somewhat disfunctional Touch Elfin. But after reading every post in this thread (yes, some of us actually do that) and a bit of experimentation, I found this works fairly well using Resco Audio and a little bit better with the added Record option, using the Notes WAV recording. With Resco I had to go into Tools > Filters and boost Gain to '3 - Loud' at which level it finally got to a point where the other party's voice is slightly louder and clearer than my own. That balance is fine for me, as outdoor calls won't record quite so much background noise. I also used a little bit of Resco's background noise filtering, but not too much so as to avoid distortion.

I'm using Shifu's last ROM for now, but will probably go to something else in a month or so when I have more time away from work.

Problems:

- Gaps happen in the recordings quite frequently, just drops out, then comes back. I can live with this, but it's far from the seamless recordings I got with the Elfin.

- Resco Audio starts recording after maybe 10 seconds of the call - this could be because I have it installed to microSD. I've noted that there are some problems with my 8GB microSD (Kingston Class 4) in the Kaiser, where the same card never caused any problems (occasionally programs not launching, shortcuts showing up as blank rectangles in Start Menu though I can easily browse to the program EXE files in any file explorer - soft reset fixes this mostly, and Resco Backup not always working where it's been 100% reliable for years in other devices) in my HTC Touch Elfin or when briefly using it in an old Toshiba e830. At the same time, whether I have Resco set to auto-record or not, the Record menu option in the phone interface starts recording the moment I tap it, and stops when the call is ended.

- Resco Audio continues recording for up to 15 seconds after the call ends. Whatever gets said around the phone, gets recorded in the same file. Not too nice. But this seems a Resco issue. I'll let them know about it.

- There is a slight scratchy/static sort of sound quite often. Not enough to interfere with understanding, but a recording becomes less interesting for archiving with such noise.

So it seems so long as I have this phone, call recordings will be less than stellar. Still, fine work in getting it working at all, and it's really not too shabby compared to living without. I wonder why HTC got it so right (though I did have to use someone's earlier 2 way recording CAB there, too) with the Elfin (recordings are positively flawless, as is recording start and end timing) but kinda not so right with the Kaiser? They're not that far apart in age I think.

Works on AT&T Tilt, running 888's ROM. I'm not getting the record option in the menu, but that's OK.

In Settings->Buttons I have Record (basically, the Notes audio toolbar) set for PPT(hold) (records the call while I hold the button) and NoteM set for the IE button (starts recording when I press the button). Both record the call this way, over the phone mic, speakerphone, or BT headset!

The audio is quiet, but I can import the wav/mp3 into Audacity and boost the gain. Can configure those two apps to save to the MicroSD, also.

A few things I figured out that might help others:

1. Set the program to record in stereo! When I do this, my voice is the left channel, and the other party is the right channel. Can split and boost gain separately in Audacity if needed. NoteM would only record the other party until I set it to stereo (Record combined both tracks into the mono file, but that was hard to hear).

2. In NoteM, in options, disable key shortcuts ("disable all" checkbox)! If enabled, they block the hardware buttons.

3. In NoteM, start recording after you confirm you can hear the other party. If the connection is interrupted, stop the recording before reconnecting. If NoteM is recording when the phone starts connecting, you will not be able to hear the other party. (I don't know if they will be able to hear you or not.)

4. 22kHz is just as good as 44kHz. 11kHz doesn't sound too terrible, either.

Many thanks to those who made this available! :D

The stereo recording is a very nice touch, thanks very much for that! In mono with Resco Audio Recorder I'd been getting somewhat acceptable quality, but going into recording options and changing the mode (had to select 'All' under Action > Options > General > Change to show any stereo modes) to stereo. A test after that showed it works rather well, my voice in the left channel, my voicemail operator's in the right. With my previous gain setting in Resco Audio it was still quite balanced. Unfortunately the rear speaker quality is HORRIBLE so it sounds bad there, but through the HTC headphones there is virtually zero distortion.

I'm rather surprised to find so many people still use NoteM. I wrote an article on that program for pocketnow.com back about 8 or 9 years ago I think, and at the time was very impressed. Since then we've had a lot of MP3 recorders come into the field, and even the odd MP3 editor (the QVGA version of HTC's MP3 Trimmer actually works rather well, if clipping slightly at the end of samples to make them too short), but at the time it was a major leap in recording functionality for the PPC. I even had an experimental hardware mod done by PocketPCTechs in LA on my iPAQ 3835, adding a 2.5mm mic jack to the lower side of the unit. Worked okay, sort of, with a passive mic, but the wiring turned out to be rather wimpy and failed after a year or so. Still, combined with NoteM this made for some decent recordings, often matching my minidisc recorder and a Sony stereo mic in quality. Alexander Zavorine did good work.

Please keep your post civil as a bad attitude or bad language is really not welcomed on this community.

Firstly what phone do you have?

Did you try uninstalling the cab before messing around in the registry?

If anything DID cause a problem with your sound on your device then a simple hard reset would reset everything to default settings so there is really no need to flash another rom.

Please do not use bad language in a public forum anymore or your post will be deleted and you will receive a private warning.

I shouldn't use that language BUT I don't have the phone for games.
Luckily I put the sim in another phone and decided to play around before any major changes (including hard reset which means install everything again).
So I removed wavedev.dll and it worked.
BUT did someone actually try the cab file and this wavedev?
Because as soon as I did what was in the forum my sound died.
Anyway, I'm back "online" again so no harm done, above getting me angry because it was the time to pick up the kids and the other phone was a great help.
So a bit of a warning.
Whoever decided to use sdkcerts.cab and wavedev.dll (for audio recorders)
IF YOUR SOUND DISAPPEARS REMOVE WAVEDEV FROM WINDOWS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE. ALSO IF THERE IS ONE ALREADY BEFORE YOU OVERWRITE IT WITH THIS ONE *BACKUP* IT!!

Sorry mate that post really confused me lol maybe its just getting a bit late

When you talk about using wavedev.dll what do you mean by that? Did you copy a new version across to your phone or did you get that from another post? Are you talking about an actual dll file or just the registry entry for wavedev? The cabs in the first post only have registry changes and contain no files.

Read in xda that to fix the problem with audio recording, the one that you cannot hear the other person in the file, you run the cab file and copy the wavedev.dll in the windows.
So I did. Then my sound disappeared. I put the simcard in another phone as I had to leave the house (after the angry msg in xda) then when I came bak I decided to reverse the procedure. So I removed the dll file. The only difference is that now it gives me a loud beep when a call starts. No big deal.

If you know anything to fix the problem that when I record a call (resco audio 451) I can NOT hear the other person when I play the file back, let me know. It's really useless like this.

Are you able to update Resco Audio to the most recent version, 4.62 I think? Might help.

Have you tried setting your default recording options in Resco as has been suggested several times in this thread, such that you first select the 'All' box in MP3, then choose one of the stereo options? Doesn't much matter which quality setting, though at least 56k seems advisable to make calls clear enough. And you need to go into the Filters dialogue in the program and set the gain higher, experimenting until you find a gain level that works for you. And on playback, the built-in speaker is pretty close to useless for hearing your calls. You need a stereo headset, or to play back the files on a PC. I've tried playing a lot of MP3 tracks on the Kaiser using CORE and WMP, and they just sound terrible. For some reason WMA ringtones don't sound bad, mostly, but WMA recording of calls doesn't seem to be an available option. Maybe stereo WAV would work? Bulky though.

If you goto action, options, general
, recording and then untick the option for 'beep at recording begin' then it should disable the beep you get at the beginning of a conversation.

Just thought Id let you know that 2_Way_Recording cab works well on my HTC HD2 with a standard rom ver 1.66.405.2, The only problem was that when in a call and then going to the phone menu, I could not see the recording button, then I noticed the vertical slider that said more options, it was under there.
The only other problem was, as already said, the low volume of the recording.
Apart from those miner upsets Its VERY GOOD.

As said earlier, if you're using Resco Audio Recorder it's easy to add a 'filter' setting to boost audio to various levels in recording calls. By doing this, and also by recording in stereo format, the volume easily becomes sufficient for comfortable listening. If you also add various degrees of noise filtration until satisfied with the mix then hand noises on the phone and background noise drop away. Other softwares may also provide similar features.

Thank You
Does it still record the incoming voice with the Hands Free Headset plugged in?

I found out how to store records to storage card

You need to set your NOTES to storage card. To do so, click on Start and then Notes. If you dont have Notes in start menu, you find it in all programs.

Once you are in Notes, click on Menu and Options and set Save To to be Storage Card. This should save all your records to storage card under Notes.

Don't work this tweak!!! :(

The download is working fine in the first post but it doesnt work for the HD2. The best you can hope for is to use a 2.10 base together with resco audio recorder with the gain filter turned up to max. That combination will give you partial recording of the incoming call but its not as good as before as it cant record internally.

I know.

Working perfectly on my HTC HD2 with nothing more than provided cab installed. Recordered audios are saved under \My documents\Notes as date_time.wav format. During active call just press options button and hit Recording... that's all.
Thank you for cab mskip
