Wouldn't it be fantastic to have Android running on the Palm treo pro ?
Sweet hardware design
Full keyboard
touch screen
only thing missing
Android
I think the Palm treo pro in combination with Android would really make it a nr1 phone blowing any competition away..
Is this something we can just dream about because its just impossible because of the hardware or would this actually be possible someday?

I would say it's safe to say that it will never happen. It seems that the cooked rom community isn't very huge for this device and the likely hood of an operating system Palm has no interest in supporting making its way on is very slim. Its a safer bet to see some iteration of this device with WebOS in the future.

I don't think Palm will give us a ROM other than WM for the Palm Treo Pro.
But I do hope they will guve us a stable WM6.1 ROM, my Treo 750 was way more stable than the Palm Treo Pro :(

So much negativity :) - it's definitely doable, I've been running android on my ATT Tilt for a while now. The Treo Pro is just starting to get released by carriers at subsidized prices, which will make it a much more attractive phone to larger numbers in the future. I think it's possible to see a port of android on this phone, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Call it negativity. I would call it experience ;)

Considering the HTC Touch has the same processor as the Treo Pro ... It is definitely doable.

Can someone try that :
Download http://www.cobaltcode.com/fileupload/data/Android/BuildUpdates/build-update_donut-1.6_22-11-09.7z
Extract it to the root of the sdcard (or internal storage, or whatever, I don't really know this treo pro device.), copy startups/diamond.txt to startup.txt
Edit startup.txt, change mtype to 2426
Dowload http://zimages.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/autobuild_system/htc-msm-android/zImage-modules-20091129_134747.tar
Extract it, copy zImage.xxxxx as zImage in the root of the sdcard (this should overwrite the older one).
And then run haret.exe
If I did it correctly, android should start.

Sorry, I cant find startups/diamond.txt in these files.
Can you upload the haret.exe and startups/diamond.txt to the forum?
I dont know which version of the haret works on treo pro

I've followed along, using Android-Donut-htclinux-15-11-09:
I extracted each accordingly, and changed mtype.
Using haret-matbeez from http://www.netripper.com/leo/haret-matbeez.exe
Now when haret is ran, it displays 'Loading Linux', and after it vibrates, it simply just resets the device.
I am continuing to tinker, incase I'm misplacing files and such. I'll report back if there is any change.

If this helps here is my logs from trying to boot it using two versions of harret and fidgeting with fbduring boot. I using Android-Donut-htclinux-15-11-09 with the zimage that was posted on here. If there anything i could test or fidget with i would appreciate helping. I am a linux user but am new to the windows mobile side of all this.

Palm Treo Pro I have used for a long time, it's the business phone. You can check work and personal email, stay on top of appoinment and contacts, and access Wifi or GPS. With a large color touchscreen, full keyboard, and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition, you can download, view, and edit Word -and Excel-compatible files. you can multi-task at the speed of 3G mobile wireless broadband. Listen to music or watch a video with Windows Media Player Mobile on your sweet baby

I think that was spam - the Palm Treo Pro (850e) phone would be great with Android I think despite the smaller (320x320) screen size and single touch display. It has a good and relatively thin candy-bar form factor and I think there is a place for it among the bulkier and heavier slide-out designs (e.g. Motorola Droid) and touch screen only (e.g. HTC Eris, HTC Nexus One, Apple Iphone) designs as well.
It also has 3.5mm stereo output, micro usb, wi-fi, GPS, removable MicroSDHC storage, removable battery, and the Qualcomm MSM7501A 528MHz processor (which many Android phones use) that will likely eventually become overclock-able to 700MHz+.
The camera, no flash, and lack of multi-touch are negatives but in my mind somewhat negligible.
I will keep this phone until a better droid style phone or Nexus comes out for Sprint at a reasonable price.

I just got a free Nexus One and am switching to T-Mobile (even and twice the price). I will still try to hack on this device once I get some free time - which may be never.

So you guys just gave up? this isn't the XDA developers i know. The palm Treo Pro is ALSO a HTC device as well. I know most of you guys only spend time on HTC devices but this is also one as well.

I spent time helping with the 700w and just because other devices have android. doesnt mean that the drivers will work stright across. there are many issues then just porting over android. There is just more then copy and paste, its a tad more advance then the way you put it.

I'd suggest anyone that still interested in development on the treo pro consolidate over at PPCgeeks. On this thread : ttp://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=98960
I for one would still like to see android running on this phone especially since today palm got bought by HP. Feel free to join #htc-linux on irc.freenode.net as well.
