And how do You want to do this? If you want to cook new ROM for Alpine with WM 6.1, then you must be good at programming, because Alpine doesnt work with WM 5/6 memory controller. This old hardware cant use WM5/6/6.1 and it will never be able to.

aye but there is a fundimental difference between getting WM6 working on the XDA2 which has already had its drivers ported to work with WM 5 WHICH happens to be very similar to WM6 then trying to get a WM2003se device that has NEVER had WM5 working on it, good luck but what you are trying to do is like getting Windows 95 graphics drivers running on Windows Vista 64

Someone once said(actually, its alot) the magician will not see the light of wm6, that was proven false a few weeks ago. Coincidently, alpine's hardware extremely simillar to magician (same reason why magician din't have wm6 until few weeks ago) The probability that one can adapt magician's rom to alpine is high with someone who has made roms before, as seen countless times here in xda.

you keep saying cooking, but we are talking about DRIVER and OS level changes here, IF you can find identical hardware it may be possible to port each driver, assuming you can bolt together all of them and fix it to work with the OS it is technically possible but before i would send you anything id want to know exactly what you have in mind, PM me if you must but remember there are people who have done exactly what i describe with other phones and yet none of them could get it working on the alpine so you are either the most technically gifted individual on here or you happen to have access to material that has remained hidden from the publics eye.

If anyone has an alpine for sale we could donate him(lets say 5 euros each...a sum of 100 euros(or less) would be enough) via paypal and then he should send it to nokser or cotulla (who already proved his abilities in creating wm roms) to try porting wm6 to alpine.

1. Extract a suitable upgrade (e.g. XDA_IIi_Upgrade_v1.11.162.exe) to a directory like c:\upgrade
2. delete nk.nbf & radio_.nbf files
3. put the alpine_ext_rom_tool.exe in this directory (c:\upgrade)
4. run it to extract the fat16 file and header :
alpine_ext_rom_tool.exe -d -n ms_.nbf
5. this creates ms_.fat and ms_.hdr
6. edit the ms_.hdr (see comments in this file for instructions)
7. mount ms_.fat and add/remove files as needed (updating Config.txt)
8. delete the old ms_.nbf file in c:\upgrade
9. run the tool to create a new nbf file:
alpine_ext_rom_tool.exe -e -f ms_.fat
10. make sure the files been created
11. run ROMUpgradeUt.exe or MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to update the extended rom on your alpine!
I want Tools >>>>>>>> alpine_ext_rom_tool.exe

Hi all,
I must confess that I too am looking forward to have some news, or eventually even a Rom for the Alpine...
However, let's not forget that here most of the work is voluntary, and the benefits that we collect from other people's efforts, go, in most cases, unrewarded to those that spent hours, days trying to improve our devices...
Even I tried, at a given time, to see if it was possible to cook something for my Qtek 2020i. I had to give up, because of lack of time and relevant information about this device.
So, let's give Nokser not only the benefit of doubt, but also some time to try to accomplish something that will please us all: bring new life to an apparently ageing PDA...
In the meantime, why not be positive, and suggest what you would like to see in the long expected ROM? Vanilla, full package, HTC Home, Manilla...
I, for one, am in favor of Vanilla + Manilla...

lol, this is cracking me up, you cant just bodge pieces of other roms together to make it work, they guys who make ROMs on here are good at what they do but what you are trying to do is build the OS around hardware that it was never intended to use, swapping files out isnt going to cut it, your going to have to re write code and make drivers, which is going to be a wee bit tricky since you dont have either!
but still, if it keeps you busy then keep on going...

I can't agree more. I warned everybody on this thread before (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3642978) about this. There is one device with the PXA272 processor on the market with WM5 (the AnexTEK moboDA 3360) but that's only the processor part. There are no drivers for the alpine, nor is there similar hardware to "borrow" the drivers from.
So no, there is no WM5 for the Alpine, nor will there ever be.
People may keep on hoping, but the chance it will be delivered by a Polish guy that can't even speak proper English will be rather slim...

whilst i dont agree with insulting folk for the sake of it i think everyone on here needs to start using their brains.
Alpine will not have WM5 or new.
its that simple.
someone please close this thread, mods seem to kill threads that are far more intresting than this with much more purpose.

Please, stop torturing yourselves, there will be no upgrades beyond 2003SE, not now, not ever, I'd love to see it, but it really isn't possible on the Alpine.
enjoy your Alpine for what it is, if you want 6.5, get yourselves a cheap kaiser or diamond :)
