So, I removed it the first time, worked fine.
At some point, flashed it without removing SIM and it also worked fine. Since then, I've been flashing with the SIM in.
Today I found out why you should remove it. I'm sitting flashing my phone -- in class -- initial customization is happening, all keys are locked, and I get a phone call, then the missed call alert, then the voicemail alert, then the phone resets and before I can get to volume controls, another missed call alert, and another voicemail alert. I kept thinking the noises were done, but they just wouldn't stop...
There may have been an SMS in there, too.
The moral of the story:
REMOVE THE SIM BEFORE FLASHING...
at least in public places
=)
EDIT: If there is another good reason, please let me know, otherwise I'll just keep doing it w/SIM inserted when in non-quiet locations.
