down - this was done so that it is easier
to see what buttons are being typed
during the demonstration.
Also note that the VGA skins can differ from the WVGA ones

HELP AND FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Read this whole text before using the FingerKeyboard or asking for help! If your question is already answered in FAQ it will be ignored. Don't be lazy!
What version should I install on my XYZ device? / What is WVGA, WQVGA, VGA and QVGA?
To successfully install Fingerkeyboard on your device, you need to pick the correct version for your phone. For example, let's say you want to find out what resolution Samsung Omnia has. Type "Samsung Omnia review" into Google, and among the first few results usually you'll get the most popular review sites listed. Reviews always contain resolution information, so we easily find out that Samsung Omnia has a 400x240 pixels resolution. That means you should install FingerKeyboard WQVGA cab.
Here's the list of supported resolutions for FingerKeyboard, with their standard abbreviations:
WVGA - 800x480
WQVGA - 400x240
VGA - 640x480
QVGA - 320x240
Download these resolutions from here! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501122)
How can i uninstall FingerKeyboard?
Go to Settings > System > Remove programs.
It is listed as "Exidler's FingerKeyboard"
Why does FingerKeyboard look differently on my device then on the screenshots?
There can be some small differences between the screenshots and what you see on your screen. The reason for this is that different layouts can have different features, graphic elements or button layouts. We consider English layout to be the "standard" layout, with best combination of button size and positions.
How can I type those special characters that appear above normal characters?
Press and hold a key.
How to switch to full CAPS?
Press and hold the shift button.
Spacebar
If you press and hold spacebar button it will write a dot followed by a space.
How to use text selection?
Switch to full CAPS mode and then use arrow buttons to select text.
How to use cut / copy / paste / undo?
Switch to full CAPS mode, select the text you want to cut or copy, and press and hold ^c or ^x characters. Then press and hold ^v to paste. On some layouts these are named "cut", "copy" and "pst". Same thing with "undo" option - you can use "undo" at any moment, and it will take you back for unlimited number of steps.
Where is that Config tool you mention?
After you install FingerKeyboard, go to Start > Programs > Finger Keyboard.
How can I switch to numeric keyboard?
Press 123 button. If your layout does not have dedicated 123 button, press Shift and 123 will appear on your Language toggle button. Behavior of Language toggle button can be customized in Configuration tool.
How can I change a color scheme of the keyboard?
Config tool > Main > Color scheme: select which ever you like and press OK or Apply.
How can I select language layouts?
Config tool > Main: you will see a list of all language layouts you have in your FingerKeyboard folder. Put a tick next to the layouts you want to use and press OK or Apply. We also advise you to physically delete layouts you don't want to use from oyur device (Program files / FingerKeyb / Skins). This will make Config tool start up a little bit faster and use less memory.
What are all those Backspace options in Config tool?
Behavior of Backspace key can be customized to suit your needs. You can separately control what will Backspace do on short click and long press, as well as how it will behave in small caps or caps lock mode.
How to minimize or turn off the keyboard?
Short press the keyboard toggle button (the one with small keyboard or switch sign on it). Long press on this button will turn off FingerKeyboard and switch to default HTC keyboard.
How to disable click sound?
Run FingerKeyboard Config tool. Under "Options" tab you will find a "Press sound" box. Here you can select from several different click sounds, all of which have "quiet" and "loud" versions. This is useful if you want a subtle click sound, but don't want to lower the volume for the whole System. There is also a "no sound option".
How can I get vibration feedback?
Config tool > Options tab > Press vibrate. Here you can select how long you want the vibration feedback to last. Minimum of 20ms will get you a barely noticeable vibration effect, while 80ms will be very strong.
How can I control the key-press delay? / What is "Hold time" / Can I make the keys repeat on press+hold?
"Hold time" option in Config tool is a cool option you can use to control how long it will be needed for a key to be continuously pressed before it writes a letter or performs an action. This part of the "Hold time" function is controlled with numbers in the first box. The second box controls how long will it take for a key to be continuously pressed before it starts repeating itself. So, if you put 500ms in the first box, and 200ms in the second box, that means you will have to press a key for 500ms before it performs it's "long press" action, and 200ms more before it starts repeating that function. If you hold the key even longer, it will then gradually accelerate.
Can I hide / show Windows menu bars?
Yes, go to Config tool and under "Options" tab select how you want the keyboard to display in Portrait and Landscape mode. We suggest selecting "Show bar" for portrait, and "Hide bar" for landscape.
I want the pop-up images to stay longer on screen. How can I do this?
In Config tool, Options tab, there is a "Popup time" box. Here you can select how long will the pop-up image stay on screen after a key has been pressed. If you set pop-up time to 1500ms, this means the pop-up image will stay on screen for 1.5 seconds, or until next key is pressed. Pop-up image delay affects ONLY the normal character keys (A,B,C,D etc). Special action keys, such as Shift, Space, Backspace etc. have default short time and will not stay on your screen. This is done to avoid action keys images covering large areas of the screen with their larger pop-up images.
What are Smiles / Shortcuts?
This is a feature that no other keyboard has. It allows you to control what any of the several predefined actions keys will do when you press and hold them. Almost all layouts have these special actions included (between 7 and 11 actions on most of the layouts). You can control what will show up on a key when you open the keyboard, as well as what that key will write when you press+hold it. For example, you can type into "Key text" box "info" and into "Action text" you could type "John Smith, gsm:00123456789, e-mail: john@smith.com". Or maybe your favorite web address. Or your signature. Or your wife's name. Or your lover's name for all we care :) The possibilities are endless! You can do the same thing for smiles - if you don't like the default ones, use your own, or something else!
A special key I need is missing / Can I customize smiles / Can I change shortcuts?
If there's a key missing in your language layout, you can easily add it yourself by using either Smiles or Shortcuts tab in Config tool. Simply type the missing key into two of the horizontal boxes and the key will appear when you long press a button that has that Smiles / Shortcut action.
Why does XYZ language layout have only a few smiles / shortcuts buttons?
Some language layouts have very high demands regarding the number of characters they need to occupy. Because of this there are a few language layouts that may have a smaller number of smiles / shortcuts spaces reserved. We have tried to include as many as possible, believe us!
How can I make FingerKeyboard a default keyboard? / How can I keep FingerKeyboard as default keyboard even after reset?
You can use a small program called SIP Change. Look it up on XDA-developers.com forum, and remember to set delay to 40-50 seconds.
"Where is XYZ language layout? Why is it not included!?"
If you want a certain language layout, first check FingerKeyboard2.1 thread on XDA-developers.com forum if someone maybe already made an additional layout and posted it there. If not, the best thing you can do is to make your own layout and share it with other people. If your layout is good, we'll probably include it in next version. Please do not spam us with "I WANT THIS LANGUAGE!!!" messages. All language layouts depend exclusively on the community to produce them. If no one can't be bothered to make your language layout, we can't really help you.
Editing instructions:
You can use the existing layouts to make it custom layouts! The easiest way is to open one of the layout skin txt files and replace the existing characters with your own. Experiment a bit, and you will soon get the hang of it. Same applies if you want to make your own skin - edit the included bitmaps, and change the appropriate lines in txt files. Everything you want to know about FingerKeyboard actions, layouts, colors and resolutions is explained in "doc-about-skin.txt" that is located in the root of the FingerKeyb folder. Read it first before asking for help!

XT9 & TEXT SUGGESTION:
This keyboard does not support T9. However, there is an option to enable standard Windows Mobile word suggestion, as well as SMS contact name suggestion. There are two ways to do this.
First way is to use the FingerKeyboard Config tool and select what you want to use (Word / SMS suggestion, or both). SMS suggestions will work normally, but for WinMo word suggestion to function, you will need to switch to HTC default keyboard and manually turn on XT9 on the little T9 switch. After that, you can reload FingerKeyboard and everything will work normally. This can be a good way for people who like to use T9 on other keyboards, but also want to use FingerKeyboard without T9. This approach also makes it possible to use new HTC style suggestion windows (the ones with small arrows on each side, where you can flip between names / words).
To avoid messing around with XT9 switch on HTC keyboard you can simply globally disable XT9 across the whole system. That means that T9 will not work even on system keyboards that have T9 support, but SMS / Word suggestions will both work. This will disable the HTC style suggestion windows, and use the default WinMo style (opens a simple white window with list of suggested words or names). The patch file which disables XT9 globally is attached in this post. This patch can be uninstalled. If you already have it installed, you do not have to remove it or reinstall it. Also, please note that when you install this patch, you will not be able to select SMS /Word options in FingerKeyb config tool - they will always be grayed out.
Click Here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=173195&d=1238970340)to Download this Patch
It might be best to install the FingerKeyb cab and test it first. You can always globally disable XT9 later on if you decide so.
There is a known bug with Word suggestion, that has been almost fully fixed in this version of FingerKeyboard. The bug manifests itself like this:
- if you have "Text word suggestion" turned on, and you type an SMS message, the "home" and "end" buttons will not work while the word suggestion window is open on the screen. If you select a word, those keys will work normally. Unfortunately, this isn't our fault - it's actually a bug in Word suggestion app.

Looks fantastic- ill give feedback after testing. What i like so far, even without trying is that this is what im looking for in terms of apps for my WM fone. As Msoft has failed completely in this regard, it is up to us to create these type of apps and to make sure that they are usable and well documented. Unfortunately, many apps are half-assed (not an insult to their creators- it is simply not possible for an individual or a small group of people to do what the entire team at apple or HTC does) so often times, they can cause more problems then they solve as bugs upon bugs are discovered. What we need is comprehensive apps that are presented in an organized manner like this. An example is the FAQ section which is great (cuts down clutter- a thread does not need to be 200 pages long) because we all hate those who ask questions over and over again that have been already asked and most of the time- even answered. Way to go!
Edit: Works smoothly. Good customization options. Addresses major flaws in most other keyboards (example- .com and www. shortcuts). No bugs discovered yet. Would like to see directional arrows at bottom option in customization menu as we all hate the useless dpad on our Fuzes. So far...highly recommended!!

I had no uninstall option either. I just installed the newest version, it would not work. So I uninstalled the new version, deleted the finger folder, soft reset, reinstalled, soft reset and it works fine. I have a Diamond as well.
Good luck.

Keyboard is awesome, I advice that u install it on device instead of internal storage (if it was installed on internal storage, when you connect it to USB to disk drive mode, it will cause it to fail)
but I have a small issue with the name suggestions in SMS, it shows whenever you press one character, and selects well, but on the second character you press, the list will go up too high and the first few names will not be shown, am I the only one facing this?
thanks Gianni for the hard/good work :)

Excellent work Giannis86, by far the best keyboard I have used so far. Customisable features are great too- just tried changing the 'predictive text' entries from the skin files and that works a treat too.
Just one question:
I'm guessing I can delete the unwanted Skins, sounds, languages, etc that I'm not planning to use? Just that I'm short on memory and 7MB is a bit much (!)
Giannis86
7th April 2009, 03:34 PM
yes, you can delete everything that you dont plan to use
here is a quick list:
Folder with the images
skin-00-sheme-XXXXXX (where XXXX is the name of the skin folder that you deleted)
Language files -port
Language files -lang
@dkobran
if you installed using the CAB, you can uninstall it from remove programs under settings
You can install the arrow version on top of this one though (Essentially its the same since doing so will first uninstall the previous version) :D

Excellent! Improved functionality and great to see that rotation works flawlessly now! The best VGA keyboard just got even better!
Also improved digi layouts, lots better with better arranged numbers in sets of three - just like they should. :)
Only one thing about the landscape digi layout: the zero key is really off IMO. I immediately moved zero to where shift is - shift doesn't even have a function in the number layout as far as I can tell... :D

added ukrainian and fixed a small error in the greek layout
from now on i also use a different cab naming..the last numbers indicate the date of the version

indeed shift is not used now but i will update it soon to display more characters when you press it ;)

this is still 2.1
the extension (.407) is ONLY referring to the VGA layouts that i made. I have the habit of constantly updating stuff...The updates are related to fixing some issues in my original version, adding skins and languages, changing layouts...
The actual program itself is the same as the base is FK 2.1
@denist
please be precise about what you did..
Which file did you install and where did you download it from?

Could you explain how the rotation occurs exactly?
In previous versions (older than v2) of FingerKeyboard, switching to landscape while FK was open caused some graphical errors..
When you switch to landscape, does the keyboard minimize? so do you have to press the button to open it again?
If not try minimizing and opening it again...
let me know how that works out
by the way what device are you using?

The problems occurs in any way, even if the writing application and keyboard are closed before rotating.
I've tried also to softreset the device, rotate screen and open SMS writing application + Finger Keyboard before anything else.
I'm using HTC Touch P3450 Elfin.
I have been trying Finger Keyboard 2.1 standard this afternoon (uninstalled before setting up your version) and did not have this problem.

I do have one question, is there a way to move the bottom right key to switch keyboad off, and maybe move it to the left side of the keyboard? I keep hitting it by accident when I want to hit enter.
Thanks!

The problems occurs in any way, even if the writing application and keyboard are closed before rotating.
I've tried also to softreset the device, rotate screen and open SMS writing application + Finger Keyboard before anything else.
I'm using HTC Touch P3450 Elfin.
I have been trying Finger Keyboard 2.1 standard this afternoon (uninstalled before setting up your version) and did not have this problem.
here is the english layout..i fixed it..put it in the skins folder
its too late though so the rest of the skins will be fixed another time..From what i saw however all QVGA skins need to be fixed

I installed the original CAB (without arrows). I tried to uninstall it so I could install the one with arrows but it is not showing up in the remove programs menu. I also tried just installing the new version hoping that it would uninstall the older one but it will not install unless the old one is uninstalled (a notice comes up). I have never used this app before so it is not conflicting with an older version. Any ideas?

You can find it in the configurator under Options. It says Portrait, you select "show bar", same for landscape.
It may be depend on the device though, I have a HTC Fuze, and the feature doesn't seem to work for me. I can not get the bar to show at all.

please note that the name of the cab is different than the name under the remove programs list. It should be listed as exidler fingerkeyb.

The program is not showing up in the Settings-System-Remove Programs list (I promise I looked like 12 times). If I try installing any of the new versions 2.1x (I want the one with arrows) one of two things will happen. 1- It will look like it is installing and then it quickly goes to the "installation unsuccessful" menu. 2-the message "Finger Keyboard must be removed before installing new version" shows up, I hit ok and it goes to the "installation unsuccessful" screen. Funny thing is the program is actually working fine, the customization menu and everything. Sooo confused! I have a Fuze by the way. Thanks in advance.

What file do I edit to change the predefined text (such as meeting is cancelled, etc...)? By the way that is a GREAT feature!!
Thanks again!

ah, i see
innitially i had a version that had 30 buttons thats why you see this..Soon i will adjust it though so that you have access to 48 texts in total
@lucas johny
if you mean have the buttons on a different layout, yes it is possible and i have it in mind but i wont do it yet..(if you mean gestures, i dont think it will happen)
The reason is that the new layout will appear on the language button..so it would become messy..
i asked exilder to implement an "ignore" function to make some layouts not appear on the language buttons.
I have many great ideas if such a thing could be done...
One of them is have a txt layout for every language for example

read the doc about skin in your finger keyboard folder and you will undderstand how it works

Very nice keyboard, I really appreciate this creation!
I use the danish layout and I stumbled upon a tiny bug: key K and L are mapped incorrectly. K is J and L is K. I have corrected this little bug and I have included the "skin-02-vga-port-12-dan.txt" keyboard layout file with this post. the extension (.407) is ONLY referring to the VGA layouts that i made. I have the habit of constantly updating stuff...The updates are related to fixing some issues in my original version, adding skins and languages, changing layouts...
The actual program itself is the same as the base is FK 2.1
Thanks for the reply!

open skin-01-predtxt.txt

CScheme txt1 Hi!
Action txt1 SS:160Hi there!
The first line represents the DISPLAY TEXT. Note that you cannot have words seperated from each other on the display name (thats why i used "..." often)
The second line represents the text
160 is the number of characters.i put 160 there as it was way above what i needed..if i put 5 though, only the first 5 characters would appear (so "Hi th" instead of "Hi there!")
Make sure the number is present though otherwise nothing will happen!

posted on main thread, but since I see Giannis being so active here I'm going to post it here as well. Heeelp this problem makes it unusable.
---
I've been trying to read all the threads on this forum (and others) - and haven't seen anyone else post about it, so I can only assume I have something funky on my phone.
When I click any key, I get a chirp sound. This isn't the normal key tapping sound that can be disabled via options and modifying the txt file & removing the 1 line doesn't help..
As near as I can tell via Wisbar, a small program of some sort is launching every time I hit a letter and the sounds I'm hearing is the same sound as if I opened any program & closed it real quick. Except in this case it's like a program opens & closes every time I hit a key.
Any ideas? If I missed someone post about this (and an answer) I apologize in advance.

Using FingerKeyb-2.1.408 VGA by Giannis86.cab. BTW, can't seem to get TXT button to work yet either, but I figure one problem at a time. Thinking about doing a backup, hard reset, reinstall to see if the problem goes away.

EDIT:

But: It doesn't work in skin...predtxt.txt for some common german letters like ä,ö,ü,ß - sometimes they won't be displayed in the text - sometimes they are not correct parsed and the Buttons are empty.

OH - one last thing. Probably my biggest beef with the OS in general that I've asked about in more places then I can count with no resolution. AFAIK, there is a bug in the OS when one tries to use more then one 3rd party sip. When it comes to writing with a stylus, I prefer SlideIT, but for keyboard thumb entry I would prefer this new keyboard. BUT I can't switch back & forth between ANY two 3rd party sips.
In other words, when I use SIP Change to make Finger the default keyboard, and I click SlideIT - I get the standard windows keyboard. If SlideIT is the default, I can't change to Finger without using SIP Change (and a reboot). It doesn't matter which 2 sip's I use.
You ever hear about this problem (sorry about the tangent, btw)

I don't know if this is a quirk, bug, or if I simply don't know how to use this keyboard. :p
FingerKeyboard does work differently in Live Search though.
At first I was put off since I could not type out a word, it brings down some quick search based off of the letter, and the next letter I would type replaces the first.
It's almost like it's triggering WinMo's sure-type system (I think it's called "sure-type").
Funny thing is, I can't figure out how to do the same thing with the factory provided SIP's that came with my Sprint Touch Pro.
I'm not even sure if this is something that needs to be fixed, just figured I would put it out there for the info.
I am curious if there are plans to do a "compact qwerty" style version of this Finger Keyboard?

does it hurt so much to have more texts available? :P
the 2nd ones are the phrases that appear when you hold a button
open the 99-predtxt layout
texts are seperated like this:
normal,hold,selected (shift), holdselect
seperated by commas
just delete the ones you dont like
for more info read the doc about new located in your fingerkeyb directory
if you want to have normal, nothing, shift, nothing
do this
TEXT1,,TEXT2,
by the way, deleting these will not increase the font size of the remaining text..(if in case that is your concern..

Your not going to believe this but I did (with Total Commander) I did a search using the "search" tool of my device and storage card too. I found a bunch of stuff using both searches and deleted everything. ....and, nothing- it still wont install. I give up. There is probably some file indicating the keyboard is still installed, either in the registry or just on the device in general that has a name that wont come up in the search. (I tried searching for "finger", "keyboard" etc.) Anyways, thanks for your help i guess ill just do a hard reset or somethin cause now neither version is working cause i deleted those files of course. The app looks and works great im just wondering why it never showed up in the remove programs menu in the first place- you said its supposed to right? Are other people having this issue (I know one guy said he is already)... Thanks again though.

I don't know if it have been posted, but there seems to be a bug in the danish layout. When typing "l" a "L" is typed on the screen - with or without shift/CL.
Else, it is a really great keyboard! Thumbs up!

Hi,
Earlier this year, I installed FKB and thought it was great - just saw your new version and when I came to trying to uninstall the previous version, I could not see it in my list of installed programs under "Settings" "System" "Remove Programs" ... any ideas or suggestions as to how I can uninstall? Thanks
Duh!!!! - sorry - just found out where I was going wrong! I had previously installed "Glossy VGA Basic Edition v1.0". Is there a newer version of this incorporating the latest FKB but with a black skin? Thanks

Your not going to believe this but I did (with Total Commander) I did a search using the "search" tool of my device and storage card too. I have the same issue on an Omnia with the wqvga version, I know, this is a Diamond thread but though it might help with the issue. v2.0 previously installed, uninstalled and unregistered per the instructions, v2.1 install failed. Get the must be uninstalled message and it stops. Tried to put v2.0 back on, same thing. I also searched the whole device and registry and removed everything, soft reset, didn't help.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Looks like this is a legitimate bug. So far it seems like the only one except for stupid language conversions. Hopefully someone or the developers will figure it out. I get angry when apps dont show up in the remove programs menu (no offense to these guys- I know its a bug) Just a pet peeve of mine

This keyboard is awesome but I would like to ask if this feature will be available:
I have XOR Morna 1.10 and I think it uses Rhodium keyboard. With this keyboard when you mistype a letter, T9 automatically suggest the correct word; let's say I type H E L K O, it recognizes K as an error and suggest me "hello".
Unluckily fingerkeyboard does not support this feature. Do you plan to add it?

I observed the same shortfall. Not a deal breaker for me, but pretty close.
Wondering if the developers also thought of including a phone pad version to sit along side of this wonderful full qwerty app?

Totally agree.... although there are many good things about this app, the thing about it being qwerty-only prevents me from wanting to use it.
I pretty much still only type with fingers instead of with stylus... and the phone keypad still has larger buttons and i hence type a lot faster with it.

I would like to suggest a few things.
I find I could use both the Arrow and the non Arrow versions.
Since I have a Program that I use that doesn't like to be resized too small, the Arrow version causes an error because it is just a bit bigger then the non arrow version.
Either way, this is probably not a problem to everyone else, but,
1. would it be a bad idea to setup both keyboards as separate installable keyboards? This way they will both show up in the keyboards pop-up window and one can choose one or the other interchangeably depending on our needs.
2. would it be possible to have the setup request to be the default keyboard? SPB keyboard has the option to become default during the setup. But I like FingerKeybord 2.0 much more, but After every reset I have to select it again.
Thank you for this wonderful keyboard!!! You have already done a great job with it.

@ everyone
there is NO phonepad feature at the moment and i dont know if it will be made available.
@eranyanay
you can make a skin that is full screen BUT you CANT have it interchangeable with a button..Thats against how FK2 works..Unless it will be changed in the future...
@A2E
i dont really know..can you try making a new contact, USING FK2 and then see if the contact recognision will recognise it? It could be that the coding of the letters is diferent (just taking a guess..)
@groz
sip changer is your trick is suggested in the FAQ :P
@bradshawadam
First of all show some appreciation for the time taken to make this instead of posting such an angry post.
Second of all, before you start blaiming the keyboard have some time to search around.. Your phone must be switched in landscape mode first..You can do that by Switching on a hardware keyboard or using a rotating aplication such as G-Sen or Gyrator..Some applications have autorotating features as well (some versions of Opera for example)
So thats how you can view it...
So in other words Landscape works just fine!

@cincy
from FAQ:
Why does XYZ language layout have only a few smiles / shortcuts buttons?
Some language layouts have very high demands regarding the number of characters they need to occupy. Because of this there are a few language layouts that may have a smaller number of smiles / shortcuts spaces reserved. We have tried to include as many as possible, believe us!

thank you a big improvement on the original keyboard. I write messages in English and Norweigen, so this keyboard is easy to switch between languages. As you can choose the languages or letters you want available. Rather than having to go through 9 sides of letters you dont need. But it is still not a finger keyboard well not for people with sausage fingers.

i think i found a bug, actually two so if you would like you can see into it, nothing major.
1. smile3 is executing good predefined action, but its text is actually the one from smile5.
example:
smile3 text: :P
smile3 action: :P
smile 5 text: -.-
smile 5 action: -.-
and what I get on keyboard is this:
http://i487.photobucket.com/albums/rr233/theFREAKed/Screen.jpg
as you can see, smile 3 is using text assigned to smile 5, although shortcut itself works fine
2.i use predefined shortcucts to store my mail adress, user and password, but the password only consists of numbers. and if i enter, lets say 12345678 the thing i will get when i use the shortcut is 345678 instead of the full string. also, when i go to settings again, the field i used to store the password is empty, although if i execute the shortcut it works. partially, ofc.
thanks!

above each letter should be a number. Press the letter a little longer and it will select the number instead of the letter.
yeah i know for that but on first page there is also option for numbers(in picture)

hic, a poor Vietnamese would like to ask if you are having any plan to make Vietnamese language available or not, my friend? Thanks, and I would appreciate if you can tell me your plans. I am with WVGA screenGet 2 files inside FingerKeyb\Skins folder that you see most similar to your language:
skin-02-qvga-land-YY-XXX.txt and skin-02-qvga-port-YY-XXX.txt.
Rename themm for exemple, to:
skin-02-qvga-land-YY-XX2.txt and skin-02-qvga-port-YY-XX2.txt.
Then, open them with notepad and there you can change some letter or symbol that you don't need and put there
those you need.

If that is what's causing the problem, and it is, than non of the other aplications you have installed on your memory card will work, when your device is connected over USB. This is happening if you use your device as external storage, if you choose Active sync when connecting, than aplications should work fine, even when connected with USB. The problem has nothing to do with this specific software, it's just the way your device functions...

Giannis86:
I've instaled file FingerKeyb-2.1-QVGA-arrows-Giannis86.cab
I thank you for your wonderfull work!
I've configured it with my own ptg layout, including leters â and ê and all accentuated capital letters that were missing in your original ptg layout.
Note for futher upgrades: In Portuguese, there are only 11 expecific accentuated leters: à á é í ó ú ã õ â ê ô and , ç . The others are the usual in english.
Now, I've a problem with predefined texts and I put this post:
Rozenthal :
I saw that you really spent a lot of time making this keyboard really look professional! So, I uninstaled Resco Kbd that I used before!
Well... but I have another dificultie: I think that key 'TXT' doesn't work.
1.- Before, I thoth it was because I changed positions and add some new keys and letters/symbols.
- Also, skin-01-predtxt.txt is original and I maintain there original sentenses.
...
- but nothing happen when I press TXT key and so I think that it doesnt work...
I have some dificult in english language but seems that it must access to another layout with 30 CScheme/Actions from skin-01-predtxt.txt. Isn't it?
What am I missing?
Thanks.
So, I beg you any tip to solve that...
Edit:
I found! It is necessary to select, in options, predtxt.txt like it be a language!
Any way, many thanks for you keyboard!

I originally used Finger Keyboard 2.0, upgraded to 2.1. Love many of the features, but two questions -
Is it my imagination or are the letters smaller, less distinctive in 2.1? I'm using WhiteIce to get the letter colors to pop up, and it just seems harder to see, especially in landscape mode, than the other.
Second, can you use old skins for colors such as White/Pink - loved that combination.

I've instaled FingerKeyboard in device and I have it at \Program Files\FingerKeyb\ where is .dll but also the folder 'skins' and inside it all other files and folders.
Look for it at your memory device and also in storage card...
If not, maybe unistall, softreset. Delete every remains and traces about FingerPrint. Softreset and reinstall (I think that the best is to install it in the memory device...)

Recently, I've tried a few ROMs with it built in and they used versions without the arrows or bottom layer of buttons. How do I switch layouts in that situation? Primarily, I need to know how to get to the number keypad for entering long strings of numbers.

This is the best I have seen. I use SPB as I found that on my diamond, it had the most accurate finger typing response. This one comes very close but has way more functionality!
Giannis86, Thank you for your efforts. Is there ANY chance that you might add gesture support? It is the one thing I am missing badly, swiping my finger to the right for space after each word and swiping backwards to delete! I have been using that on Resco and SPB keyboards....
Please ;)

I love Finger Keyboard. I also saw a really neat feature on the new AT&T Samsung "Omnia"... the one with a Samsung OS.
One thing that was really sweet was that the keyboard would change depending on the orientation. In portrait mode, it would display the old phone keyboard for old school texting... but rotate the phone in landscape mode and the keyboard went into a full qwerty keyboard.
It was a PERFECT solution. It allowed quick 1 handed texting in portrait mode and quick 2 handed texting in landscape. Very slick feature. Perhaps this could be an option in a future release?

question is, would i be able to customize the install process so that it only loads up the english language by default?

It would be easier and quicker to see or when vibrating feel the changes, don't need to load the config application again.

Exidler, Rozenthal and Giannis86 - this is really great. I love it and it works extremely well. I particularly love the shortcuts and the appearance.
I actually installed it to the Internal Storage in my Diamond (despite you advising to instal it to the Device memory), just to see if it worked well. I am glad to say that it does! There are no bugs, at least that I have seen so far. I have soft resetted it a couple of times and it is still the default keyboard (just as I had setted it up to be).
One thing I have noticed is that it seems to have saved me about 6MB of RAM! This took me by surprise, unless I am going crazy. Perhaps you could try to install it to your Internal Storage instead of your device and see if you too save this amount of RAM. I think lots of people would like this if it is infact the case. Perhaps everyone saves this RAM even by installing it to their Device instead?
I think HTC programs do eat memory anyway. I use the Windows Dialer as this saves memory too.
Thanks to you all again.
