Here's GMM 3.0.1.4, released a few days ago, figured I'd post it for those of you who have OCD about using the most recent build of anything and for you chefs also. Can't say I noticed anything different so I had to track down the release notes (http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=144115) (pasted below).

Windows Mobile devices

Major

Background location updates: Google Latitude background location updating has been fixed and allows you to continue updating your location automatically in the background even when Maps for mobile is closed.

To enable this, choose to exit Maps from its main menu and when prompted, select 'Yes' to continue background location updates.
When in background location update mode, Latitude will default to cell ID (cell tower) location detection to preserve battery life. WiFi or GPS detection will not be available in background mode.
Note: you may receive a limited number of installation reminders (http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=136653).

Auto-restart location updates: If you turn off your phone or it ran out of battery with automatic Latitude location updates enabled either in the background (see above) or with Maps left open, Latitude will respect this choice and automatically restart location updates in background mode when you next turn on your phone.
Force location updates: Manually refreshing your Latitude friends list also forces the update of your own location if automatic detection is enabled.
Login errors: Several fixes completed to address multiple causes of login errors for Latitude, such as invalid certificates.
Backlight behavior: Your device backlight should turn off according to your system settings when Maps or Latitude is left open in the background. Previously, Latitude may have kept your backlight on when in the background.
Internal error: Selecting a friend in Latitude to see more info and options will no longer cause internal errors on some devices.

Minor

Many minor interface and layout issues have been fixed or changed.
Cell ID (cell tower) location detection near two cell towers has been improved so that your location bounces less if you're between two towers.
Map centering when GPS is active has been fixed on some phones. Previously Maps may have defaulted to your location instead of a friend's after you choose 'Show on map' for the friend in Latitude.
Friend photo icons have been fixed to properly indicate if a friend's location is recent (blue outline) or old (gray outline). Previously, some friend photo icons remained blue even if the location was old.
Photo uploading for your Latitude picture is enabled for .png files.

Known Issues

Errors may occur if you are verifying a phone number that has already been registered with another Google Account.
Username or password fields may be off screen or covered by the software keyboard. Login errors will occur if you proceed without entering a password.
Cannot paste text into fields in Maps for mobile. On some devices, you may be able to use the software keyboard's CTRL+V command to paste text into Maps as needed.

i think this is the same version thats been out for over a month now.

correct me if i'm wrong. but the one thing that makes me think its the same is that latitude doesn't run in the background when you close, even though you agree to continue sharing position.

hopefully it will continue to track my location as the previous version 3.0.1.2 did not! Plus it sometimes hung on a certain location (friends mobile) even though I updated it and on my mobile I am on the spot.

Does this version 3.0.1.4 still have the font size issue that prior 3.x versions have had? I'm still using a 2.x version on my Tilt because I haven't found a fix...

Ok I can say that is has tracked me today all day. Basically I know it updated my status because my phone would make an internet connection and this happened when I made major geographic displacements. Unfortunately it takes data usage to update it.

Yikes. I don't know where it's autostarting, but twice after a restart I've found my Tilt is running DOG SLOW and I go into MemMaid and GoogleMaps is taking 100% CPU for several minutes.

I was running it with Latitude on and I locked up the device playing with something and had to restart, so I guess I exercised the functionality where it'll auto-start Latitude for you. I haven't tried exiting and leaving Latitude running and resetting again.

If it keeps doing this, I'll go back to the previous version. Latitude is cute but I don't want it doing this. I never leave it running anyway, I have enough stuff running on my Tilt.

What I really want is the ability to download maps to use off line like Nokia maps I no downloading the hole of the uk might be to big but downloading just the required city/town should be easy to do as most phones now come with at least 8 gb.:D

QuickMenu comes with a nice Copy/Paste function (when you do a long click on it while having focus on a text field). Maybe it can be used on google map ?
I haven't tested, I will get this new version later.

Dear all,
Too Sad .......that I can not use this google map since the feature of Location detection, Google Latitude, and the Gears Geolocation API in Google Map use cell ID to automatically detect your location using Google's cell tower database.

Most newer phone platforms support cell ID, including Android, iPhone and iPod touch, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Symbian S60, Sony Ericsson, and Java devices.

Some devices, particularly Windows Mobile devices, do not have the the proper API enabled to allow for cell ID location detection.

I use XDA Flame and I think it has no proper API also. Anyone know if this can be solve or manupulate?

Thanks so much for your help....

I've been fooling around with this program for a litt while, and I can't for the life of me get it to find my location here in Norway. Tried it before too, same thing. But in the beginning of July, my girlfriend and I went to Denmark for a few days, and on the way home we were looking for a specific place we wanted to go to. After thinking a while, and cursing a really, really bad map, I sighed. Placing the astronomical cost of data while roaming at the back of my mind, I fired up GMM. First thing it does, is to place me on the map with 70 meters accuracy!! That has never happened before, or since - and I cannot get the damn thing to work here at home, no matter what ROM or version. Don't get it. No clue. There, my frustration unloaded, I bid thee good night :p

When you have a moment, search this forum for version 3.2 or download it directly from Google Mobile.

It's likely that it's not an issue with your device or the application as you indicated that it worked as expected elsewhere. The issue may be carrier related (blocking) or region related (limited data for google).

Cheers,

Version 3.2.1 is out, I just downloaded it from http://m.google.com and click on maps as usual.

Now you can see buildings on the standard map, not only the satelite view :)

Hi, I know that almost everybody wants the new version of GMM, but I am looking for the last version of GMM before the Latitude service. Does anybody maybe has this version still somewere in some lost corner of his pc? Thanks.

The thing is that Latitude does not work for me since Google is not updating maps of my region and I dont have friends who acctualy own phones with this type of applications.

But why not use the latest version anyway, there are many new features like layers and stuff. You don't even need to enable latitude in the application.

Not sure if this one has it but here is an older version that I found while cleaning up HERE (http://www.4shared.com/file/115799110/28c8dd5f/Google_Maps_v30012.html)

Thank you Zelendel, but it is still a version with Latitude in it. But thank you for looking and posting.

You are right, there are many other features, but I donīt know why this Latitude messed up with the Favorite tap and instead of marking some Favorite point on the map it was allways trying to load the Latitude service. I became very frustated so I was searching for a version without the Latitude.

But I realise that I should give it a second chance, since It is quite obvius that I am the only one with this kind of issue
