Hi all,
I notice that nobody has made it possible to update the hw6915 to Windows Mobile 6.1. Is there any reason for this apart from a lack of people to do it?
If not I'd like to try doing it myself, since I know there is a lot of interest and have a lot of experience of messing with embedded firmware, for example on the Sony PSP.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to begin? How do I dump the ROM currently on my device, for example? And how does one "merge" WM 6.1 into the ROM? Surely there is an OEM release of WM 6.1 that contains some common core which must be put into the cooked ROM.
Many thanks
EDIT: I have found a ROM dumper called grab_it. Is this suitable?

Hello pal,
Yes, indeed, nobody has upgraded the hw6915 to WM 6.1 from what I am seeing on this forum, and this section especially.
I am really interested on upgrading my device but my knowledge on this kind of devices is just limited - although I am trying to "catch" the info's.
If you need some help - again, with my limited knowledge - please feel free to ask.
About grab_it, from what I had read on this section, there are many versions of that program so I don't know which is suitable for hw6915's ROM dump.
Regards.

FYI:the standard method to dump ROM is to use pdocread while connected activesync

Thanks for both replies. I have managed to make a dump using the 128mb version of grab_it but it is exactly 128mb... so I'm guessing there'll be a lot of 0x00 at the end of the file :/
I'm gonna try to use pdocread now..
OK, after having to hard reset my device (lol, the USB connect wouldn't work because all the scheduled tasks are corrupted), I have dumped the ROM using pdocread.
What is interesting is that the listing contained the following:
63.94M (0x3ff0000) TrueFFS
| 3.06M (0x30fc00) Part00
| 3.19M (0x330000) Part01
| 56.75M (0x38c0000) Part02
51.22M (0x3337e00) TRUEFFS
| 3.06M (0x30fc00) Part00
| 3.19M (0x330000) Part01
| 56.75M (0x38c0000) Part02
But after dumping the two devices, their contents were an exact MD5 match. The "51.22MB" label is also certainly wrong. However I have now obtained the 3 files part00, part01 and part02 in RAW format.
Could anyone recommend a tool for examining these files?

Hope to see 6.1 Rom.
I love the design of 6915. Very classic

I have attempted this numerous times, there are many threads about this inlcuding the one I started with alot of information concerning this. Several of us on here have worked on this issue, the fact remains we need alot more help.
