Yes, the SPL needs to be flashed back to original. I think any original rom which also flashes original SPL and is according to your phone's firmware (old gene or new gene) will make it servicable. If you can find it, good, otherwise, forget the warranty. And lemme tell you one thing, 1-4 dead pixels do not qualify for a phone exchange, so be sure that you have atleast 5 dead pixels before you do all these hassels, and dead pixels is the main cause for you to go to service centre.

Dont hesitate to contact the service center ...guys frm svc center are very much aware that we can upgrade the devices ourselves....
Do i need to install the previous version ??
No ...i feel its not necessary for you to install the older version...i once bricked my phone and took it to service center ..my SPL was changed and i was not asked anything about it...all it costed for me was just rs 100 for them to install the company shipped ROM to my device...so dont waste time searching for original shipped ROM...i doubt if it is even available in the forum...I forget what was the SPL version or rom version i had before so kindly help in that also :)

Its really hard to find. I think you should try to give it to customer care as it is. They may not say anything as it is extremely common for Windows Mobile owners to come to them with their mobiles in patched condition.

I think, Sumit is right in saying that, becoz I remember myself submitting my Vox to HTC Service Center, with a 96 DPI cooked ROM, as it had some issues with keys. I was given warranty, without any objection. The issue was fixed and when I was getting the device back, they had also flashed the original ROM for Vox. So, I think, there is no harm in giving a try by submitting the device as it is.

@ Rocky
I think u should give ur device to service centre without caring for the warranty....they won't even bother to ask u why u flashed ur device and also the gene device is now not available in the market...so better do it as early as possible.....might be a chance they won't provide any service later on....
good luck buddy...get ur device rectified

I agree to you as they dont even bother which rom you have installed or what have you done with it, its in warranty they will just go for it.

Its not always the same even with Nokia, it depends upon availability. Just you dare touching the firmware of a Nokia phone, and see how service center guys kind of throw you out with your phone. Nokia has a blind fan following in India, thats all, that is the reason for high availability. I have this experience twice with service center at sector-2, Noida. I am not blaming them, they have their policies, but the tolerence level in their warranty coverage policy is very low in comparison to HTC.
And 2-3 days is not that much i think, although it certainly depends on your needs. Sony Erricson's Main Service Center at Nehru Place once replaced by W660i's motherboard in 15 days, beat that!
And it gave me the same problem again, in 15 days, this time they didn't even repaired it, said it has some kind of water damage and declared it unrepairable. But it suddenly started working again by itself 10 days after that, sold it for 6K, had bought it for 6500, beat that :D

They will not talk about the new rom flashing
But they will check the SPL ( I am sure ) , and they have right to decide whether they will take it as a hard ware problem and they will not look to the software or SPL , OR they will tell sorry this is out guarantee
Sorry , but this happened with me before

IF your device is not in warranty ,then only you can see the big picture,However you had a software problem this was the reason why they kept their mouth shut, otherwise they'll charge like:-
For Motherboard Rs7500
Broken Display Rs4000
Battery Rs2000
Hardware inner keypad 1500
Broken SD card Slot Rs 1000

@Rakesh: But then who doesn't man? The thing is, it is well known that breaking the SPL voids your warranty. Tell me one company that has something in their warranty terms like this and they provide it without asking a question? Get you software corrupted somehow and try getting the phone repaired on a Nokia service center, you will get the idea what i m talking about.

Nokia, Service? LOL.
Here is my experience:
1. I once had a Nokia E50, It had some issues so I went to Gariahat, Kolkata service centre to get it rectified, and the technician there wasn't able to open the device for initial inspection :D. I mean she was not even able to open the cover, I had to show her how to open the cover (of the Mobile of course, what were you thinking :D ? ).
2. Once I had a cr@p nokia phone, whose model number I do not remember now (before xda, I used to change my cell every 6 months or so :D) which said it supports gmail client. But when I tried to install it, it installed fine for the first time. I had to remove it for some reason but later on when I again tried to install it, it simply refused, giving some error (long time back, don't remember the specific error). I contacted their service centre as well as their online support but they had one blunt reply, we don't give any support for any third party apps. So thats there support. Thankfully, after WM (to be more precise xda), I won't bother myself with another of their cr@p, unless of course, they come up with a WM device :D (and dump symbian ^^)
As far as HTC is concerned, I never had to visit them even once in my three years association with them. So I think thats the last straw in the hatch (may be there devices are so less prone to problems that they don't keep enough spares, as they don't need it. Unlike Noki@ whose devices / handsfree are always causing problems and hence require a lot of spares LOL".)
