View Full Version : What's wrong with my Vogue?

I know this kinda cliche. But please help me out.
I got a second (third or fourth maybe more) hand Vogue. The previous owner said that the battery should last about 3 days. But I've been recharging it 3 times a day (for a 24hours standby).
Please note: My backlight is on level 1 (the darkest) most of the times. No Bluetooth or GPS at all. Only light phonecalls and sms.
I've done all the tweaking and stuffs. Activesync only when connected to PC. Battery settings to save. I got a new battery. Nothing work. It barely last for 12hours (with the new battery). On a power off (not stand by)... it goes down 30% over a night. I don't know what's draining my battery.
I'm suspicious that the OS is not original from the sprint. I don't know is it cooked or not. But it still WinMo 6.1.
Please help me... Let me know if u need infos.

Do you know what programs you are running?

If you are talking about the task manager, it's empty.
However, I did try to hard reset it and I have this theme (thundering sound on boot, wallpaper of lightning strike tree) and a few programs (TCPMP, Total Commander) still in my HTC. I have no idea if there are more differences. Oh, I didn't have the HTC Cube. Have the FTouch Flo but not the Cube. I did install it later on.
Please help me. I have no idea whats draining the battery... I'll appreciate whatever help I can get.

If you're suspicious that your ROM isn't authentic from Sprint, and your battery is draining quickly, I'd say it's time to ditch that ROM as it's suspect.
(As per the norm, back up your data first.)
You can download the latest ROM for your device from HTC's site. Hit them up, grab the latest ROM, and flash your phone. Once finished, let it set up / customize, and let it charge fully. Also, make sure you connect to the internet and browse for a bit using Sprint's ROM, to set up the Carrier's Data Provisioning. Also, test out some GPS functionality.
This is the bone-stock Sprint ROM, so if you want to test battery life, this is the place to do so.
If this resolves things, I would highly recommend visiting NFSFAN's 6.1/6.5 thread, and downloading (as of right now) 6.5 v7. It's easily one of the best ROMs available for any phone, period.

It seem that I have been evading the inevitable...
Thanks for the tips. I'll need to find a way to flash it safely as possible.
Thanks a lot

anyone kind enough to direct me to the latest ROM on HTC site? They keep directing me to the South East Asia site... and the don't release Vogue there. Or is it possible to throw away the the custom ROM without reinstalling the whole thing?

Thanks for the link. But I think I will try the NFSFAN ROM coz I don't live in the USA.
I'm still blank about how to flash it though. Anyone?

regardless of where you live I would suggest flashing a stock ROM first just to make sure its at a step one state, stable and normal before flashing a custom ROM
But ... if your thinking of flashing to NFSFANs ROM - go HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3669369&postcount=4683) and read up on the FAQ for it as well as a "how to" as to flashing a custom ROM

Thanks for all the advice. I flashed my phone with NFSFan and let it stand idle for about 6 hours (no tweaking yet) and the battery still goes down about 50%. Thats the same as it was... :( Well I'm trying the tweaking anyway. Is it defective?

it's prolly just time for a new battery.
one other thought, if you open the batter cover,
on the battery it should say a number and then "mAh"
For example I have 700mAh
which is like the smallest battery, and you're suppose to get like a 900mAh from the factory, but I got ripped off from the phone store.
But basically the higher the mAh the bigger and longer the batter will last.

The battery says 1100mAh the same one with the original. It lasted longer than the one I got before. But isn't it suppose to last about 3 days? Dang! I'm afarid to use anything because of the battery. I'll try to exchange my latest battery with the new one and hope for a longer life.
Btw, done more tweaking and still the same.

On average, I get about 17 hours (mostly in "standby") from the 1100mah battery. Lately, the battery has been going dead sooner...
I purchased a 2400mah battery and back cover for about $15US a while back. I went back to the factory battery for a while, but kept the larger battery in my backpack. After not using it for a couple of months I pulled it out last night (when the 1100 battery was about to die) and it still had a full charge! Going to use it again for a while...

One more thing,
How do you recharge your phone?
Many people, NFSFAN himself included have noted that charging through USB from your computer takes longer, but holds the charge quite longer as well.
Give that a shot if you've been doing the wall charge thing.

Im def interested in that deal as well
Currently I charge via a cradle powered off the wall and connected to the PC via usb into the cradle it has a extra battery charge slot as well so the phone and an extra battery charges at the same time from an amazon dealer
Works great but 2400 Mah for 15$ ?? Im on that like ugly on Rosie LOL

thanks for the tips... gonna try it. Btw, I heard a guy named nue2chem (cmiiw) made a program that can charge the battery with USB port from PC faster. Ever try it?

It's only for the TouchPro.

i installed nue2chem's dynamic clock and sett everything a bit lower to the lowest. Didn't do anything noticeable on the battery though... installed the power driver for titan/vogue but don't know what it's doing exactly.
However, I charged the battery with usb last night (on a power off state) and ask my huband to pull it off when it's done. He said that he pulled it off around 2am. And I turned it on around 7.30am and found that the battery is 96%. What a revelation! Usually it will take around 30-40% even at power off.
I hope it can do better at standby mode :)

The nue2chem dynamic clock and power drive certainly are not helping my battery on a standby mode. Gonna try the power off again tonight.
Out of curiosity. Since flashing NFSfanROm doesn't really help my Battery, will flashing the stock rom (perhaps then flashing NFSfan ROm or any other) do the trick?

It sounds of a hardware drain issue .. no program or ROM is going to help that as it literally sounds as if there is a physical issue with the hardware draining off the battery
about the only steps is to take it in and see if the techs at your local provider can fix/replace something (most likely main board swap out) or send it in via insurance claim (if you have it) and get a different phone
The only other thing I could suggest and this is so far out in left field its not even in the same state is to check your contacts between phone and battery on both the battery and phone - they should be a very brass/copper look and not all dirty and dark, if they are dirty and dark then take some EXTREMELY fine sandpaper and brush it LIGHTLY over the metal contacts VERY CAREFULLY to clean them, I really cant see corrosion and dirt being the issue for the battery drain or it working hard to deliver a current to the device, but with everything else having been eliminated we are only left with the two options LOL
tweaks, apps, ROMs, settings, etc all not working with minimal usage of the phone = hardware

Main board swap out? That sounds pricey. I'll try cleaning the battery terminal.
Anyway... my battery goes down 2% over an 8hours power OFF. No improvement on a StandBy mode though. I know it's silly to get excited over nothing but it's better than nothing.

did the battery terminal cleaning thing, and it doesn't work. The battery is still draining.
Any other suggestion rather than a hardware problem? Vogue wasn't released at my country so any hardware modifications or service is VERY expensive.

Not really ... sucks it will be pricey, but thats the risk of having tech that isnt native to your location - sounds like the options :
1) check out cost of the hardware replace rather than speculate without actual data of cost
2)If it does cost more than a different Vogue, then get a different Vogue
3)Purchase a Charger base with extra battery via ebay or amazon was about 20$USD for that option for me
From all the suggestions you really dont have any additional options software wise so with eliminating software that only leaves hardware

I'm not familiar with US carriers, but you're on Sprint and not living in the USA? Could it be that your phone is constantly roaming? That's a real battery drain right there.
Also, if you're battery is draining that fast, the phone should be warm to the touch... especially the back cover where the battery is.
I suggest that in order to make sure that it's not your battery, you should download and install a free utility called ACBPowerMeter located here:
http://www.acbpocketsoft.com/Products/acbPowerMeter/acbPowerMeter-Overview-2.html
This utility will tell you how much power is being consumed at any given time. For myself, I have push email setup so my data connection is always on. My power usage is somewhere between 80mA with the backlight on and around 50mA with the backlight off.
try for yourself and see what the power consumption is.
Thanks.
