This bug affects other Windows Mobile devices as well, it is not a Diamond issue. There are a few threads on XDA-Dev on the subject, but none of the remedies suggested worked on my Diamond.

I am using 6.1, with the official 1.93WWE ROM. Mine is the unlocked GSM version.

Symptoms are:
- Device can connect the desktop through USB, but all files are read only. I can edit/delete files on the device itself, but not by browsing them on the desktop.
- Windows Mobile Device Manager just says "Error". No codes, nothing. Very helpful(!).
- No Outlook syncing, obviously.
- Device continues to function, but no programs can be installed/uninstalled. Remove Programs list is empty.

When/how does this happen?
- I think it happens during a sync. My diamond locked up during sync, I had to soft-reset it. It affected something on the PDA, not the desktop (I think).

Why does it happen?
- Googling is no help. MSDN has no clues. A few places suggest generic remedies, such as re-establishing the pairing with desktop (doesn't work), tweaking security policies on the PDA registry (no go), etc.

Is it solvable?
- The universal remedy: hard reset, resync, reinstall, retweak. Tons of fun. And there is no guarantee it won't happen again, since I don't know why it happened in the first place.

It's a shame this can happen so easily: Third time in the last two weeks. It had never happened to me before, and I bought the Diamond soon after it came out.

Does anybody have a cure?

Barring that, does anybody know why/how this happens, so it can be avoided?

Last of all:
Could somebody with a Diamond please share their Security Policies registry settings here, so I can try them? (Please do not put it as a cab file, since I can't install anything)

Thank you.
