View Full Version : Polaris m2d-skins and themes posting and development.

I have some years experience now with the xda-forum. I'm still very pleased (and that's an understatement) with the existance of it. Besides that I find it sometimes difficult to find what I want. Some of the things difficult to find are the m2d-skins that suits the Polaris with its QVGA. Therefore I had the idea to start this new thread for questions about and some posting of Polaris-m2d-skins, -themes and for skin- and/or theme-developing-questions.
Please give your reaction to this idea by rating this thread.
To make a start, this is my first contribution:
in fact the first real contribution to the world of xda. Most of the credits go to the maker of an KeRohGlass-skin but i can't find the creator of that skin anymore. I used his xml to learn about the correct settings. Secondly I used most of the tabs and pictures. With that in hand I made this one. Most important for me was to make it suitable for my Touch Cruise (QVGA), to have the footprints tab and I wanted the possibility the second appointment shown on the home screen.
I also made the corresponding theme.

Download (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2OGFKCOK) (Skin to aply with m2dc). You can install this one with m2dc.
Download (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AI3E1Q8P) (Skin to aply in Windows). You can install this one by unzipping the map on your pc, then copy al the files in the new map to your ppc into the windows-folder. When it asks or you want to overwrite the files type 'yes'.
Download (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ORI33WB1) (Theme). Yust copy the .tsk-file to your windows folder on your ppc.
This is the second one, with a transparent tab bar!:

Hope you like it.
For this 191586 one look here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451702&page=22) at post 212.
Other helpfull things:
Sometimes the second appointment doesn't show properly:
This is the HTCHomeSettings.xml-file to show the theme as it should (copy this to your Windows-folder in case the appointments doesn't show properly, it should overwrite the old one):

Others:
This is the cab for te m2d-configurator. You need this to install new skins in the m2dc-format:

This is the thememaker I'm still using:

When you've made your own skin (and corresponding theme) for Polaris (QVGA) or when you have one that works fine with Polaris (QVGA) please post it in the skin-thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451702). Post the link to it on this thread (where you are now). By that way we can prevent double posting and share the fun by the rules of this forum.

I had this problem with the first themes I tried on my Polaris. It has to do something with the settings of the text-rectangular-coördinates in the 'HTCHomeSettings.xml'-file. There are a few posibilities (when the problem did occur with the skin I posted, otherwise there are others), I'll try them in these order:
1. Try a soft reset.
2. You can try to disable tochflo (settings - today- items - TouchFLO) before installing the new one. After installing the new skin soft reset en enable touchflo again.
3. Aply the theme with the 'windows-download' instead of the m2dc-one, it's also attached to the first post now.
4. Overwrite the HTCHomeSettings.xml-file in your windows folder with the one I aplied in the first post.
Please report me if this stil doesn't work. Its best that you give a screenshot in your post. You can make screenshots with the following app.: 179456

Hi, Can i know how we apply the theme in storage card? when i change the theme frequently, my main memory occupied by themes and dunno which file should be delete...
This depends:
1. When you install m2dc it's easy to find your files. In that case they must be under program files - m2dc - themes. In m2dc it's also easy to delete them in it's main menu. So when I was you I would install m2dc.
2, When you do't use m2dc its more difficult but when you're doing it the right way you will overwrite the old files when you install a new theme.
3. When your memory is still full. Disable touchflo (under settings - personal - today - items). Search tot files that start with hh_... (hh stands for Htc Home) and delete theme. Then reïnstall the theme of your choice and re-enable tochflo. It's best to do a soft reset afterwards.

well, no succes. What I found for you was this: 181384. You can extract the clock-btn from it (it's the 'hh_hm_clock_bg-file).
I don't know how to make top- and softkeybar transparent. You can try to search in the windows-folder for the file and replace or edit it but that means a lot of search-time.
For the transparent slider, you can try to edit mine (it's the 'hh_fw_tabbtn-' and the 'hh_fw_tabbtn_mask-file') out of the windows-skin-folder in the first post.
As you can see it's not much for the moment but I'm gonna try further.

It's not that difficult to learn. What you have to do is find the skin and when it's a m2d-file you have to install it first on your ppc with m2dc. After this you can copy al hh_.....-files to your pc and edit al of them. When the skin is brought to you in a windows-format it's a lot easier because you can skip the m2dc-step. What you can do first is have a look at all your hh_.....-files that are installed as your current skin. I've learned it myself in the same way, the only thing you need is patience and time.
You can also try to get some help here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421944&highlight=add+footprints+tab+theme).

There was only 2 samples....
The first if for tf3d, so not for Polaris (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=500880, "googling" image's address).
The 2nd is a wm 6.5 theme (found probably here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501506 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499611).

I tried to modify another theme (extracting the .png files), but the trasparent effect (i.e. the slider) is not visible.
I think is only possible to minimize the dimension of the tabs, as you can see in the thread of manila 2d skin.

I can asure you that it's possible to make the images transparent but I also have to do some work before I know how to. Others have done it so we can to. For now: can you post a screenshot of what you have now? I have the colloured lined background now and I'm messaging with some other xda-user to try to get a grip on the transparent png's. The upper and lower bar in transparency seems to be impossible in wm6.1.
The search continues.
Edit: I have all the files I need now from the maker of the 'grass'-tfm3d-skin. Still packed in some cab's. So lots of credits to him (MobileMatt), you can see his work here (http://www.mobilematt.net/).
Now there's a lot of unpack and edit-work to do. I'll get back when it's finished!! Only thing not possible for sure now is to make the upper and lower bar in wm6.1 transparent.

it seems impossible indeed (see my previous post from yesterday) to make the wm6.1-bars transparent but I'm gonna try to make the bars in m2d transparent, maybe it ends up impossible but I want to see it myself. Good luck with your editing.
Edit (090409): you were right, it's indeed impossible to make the tabbar transparent because there's no background in that part of the screen. The only thing that remains is to do the trick. I'm gona try that myself with the BlackWaterdrops-skin.
Edit (140509): well, the search is over. The trick will not do it either because you need a completely one-coloured background and my blackwaterdrops-background isn't. I'll just stick to the lowered bar to make the background as large as possible. I was to enthousiastic but now I know how the m2d-skins work.

Hey dblonde,
thanks for reply. I know this trick, the tabbar is just hidden by setting the hight of it to aprox. zero. You can do that by editing this line in de htchomesettings.xml-file: <Property name="IDTABWG_TAB_RECT" id="2" value="0,213,240,77, 0,140,320,51" /> the number 77 is the hight of the tabbar, the higher the number the lower the bar. Just try it. The standard setting in this line is: <Property name="IDTABWG_TAB_RECT" id="2" value="0,217,240,51, 0,217,320,51" />

Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhh,
I managed to make the tab bar look transparent. It's not really transparent but a cut (with the exact right measures) out of the background. This is what I made of it:
189404
This is what I did:
set the with of the hh_fw_tab_bg_fill-image to 240.
copy and paste the bottom 38 pixels of the hh_fw_background-image to the above image.
play some with the hight of the hh_fw_background-image to make the tab bar enclose and fit just right to each other(depends on the hight of the tabbar, mine is lowered as you know).
Greetz, Steady Ron.
Edit1: of course the same trick can be done with the title bar. When you like that more you can, for example, even make the bars look a little darker then the rest.
Edit2: I'll post the skin with a mirror in my first post on this thread soon.
Edit3: the mirror for the skin is placed at the bottom of the first post in this thread. The mirror for the corresponding theme folows later.
Edit4: the mirrors for the theme and the windows folder for the skin are also placed in the first post.

What could possibly be the reason why the calendar events are not showing 2 but still one?
All steps are carefully studied and I really couldn't find the clue....

dblonde,
you posted a really beautiful theme there (post 210). however when I accessed rapidshare, it came up with the following message: "This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times. This limit is reached."
can you please, please upload again?
thanks!

Hello captkkk,
let us start at the beginning:
First of all you have to be sure you're using the right HTCHomeSettings.xml-file. When you're not sure use mine (see first post). Put it in your Windows folder (overwrite the old one). Before you do this disable touchflo first and re-enable it after installation of the xml. Afterwards soft reset.
Remember the second appointment only shows when there really is one, otherwise the lowest line will not show. So make sure you have a couple of appointments in your agenda.
When still no succes please let me know, we will gona try something else.

Hey captkkk,
it seems (out of your screenshots) that the measures of your screen are different from polaris-measures. What are the measures in pixels? I think the appointment are overlapping each other at the bottom of your screen. I think when you give me this information we can make the second appointment show correctly.

I made another skin with a picture thats more compatible as a transparent tab bar. It's here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451702&page=22).
It looks like this: 191588

Forget about my signature, it is old, my device is just an ordinary 240x320 QVGA Touch, the setting as I can see is only a new set of "IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_" as oppose to "IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN1_", I have calculated all pixels for the second appointment and put in 2 for testing, but no show.
This is my set of the extra lines only with a shift of another 10pixels upwards:
<Property name="IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_RECT" id="50" value="12,174,228,204" />
<Property name="IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_IMG" id="51" value="46" />
<Property name="IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_IMGPOS" id="52" value="29,182" />
<Property name="IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_TEXT_RECT" id="53" value="55,175,213,203" />
<Property name="IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_TEXT_TIME_RECT" id="54" value="29,175,213,189" />
<Property name="IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_TEXT_SUBJECT_RECT" id="55" value="29,186,213,204" />
<Property name="IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_IMG_FOCUS" id="56" value="181" />
<Property name="IDHMWG_CALENDARBTN2_IMG_FOCUS_DN" id="57" value="182" />

Just adding the lines as mentioned above is not sufficient. There are more lines somewere else in the xml that are needed to pick up the second appointment out of the agenda. Which lines I don't know.
There are two types of xml-files. One with the voicemail showing and one with the second appointment showing. The question is which one you're using.
Have you already tried to use the xml I posted in the first post of this thread?
