Yes, maybe it's true but if the idea is to use android, let's use it completely with angrybirds, glowhockey, data connection, and all the things a tattoo may do (as the hardware is almost the same). I am not taking the data connection issue out, of corse ;-)

i looked at my free ram, and it is less than 64mb. So i think that you are pretty good. You have to remember that the topaz is great hardware, but very out dated. Gingerbread is a lot for our devices. i will check out angrybirds.

Yes, but it's great hardware (not so outdated, mine one is only a year old) and I think angrybirds should work. But, I think the amount that is shown there is only the swap because installing a task manager show 177 MB. But, anyways, is there any way to increase the amount to the real amount that the topaz has?

Please tell me when you try angrybirds. :)

Thanks in advance

Here are updated Ext2's and Bundles. As always, bundles are noob friendly and only need to extracted to root of fat32 formatted sdcard, then run Haret.exe from winmo. Ext2's just need to be renamed to system.ext2 and then replace old system.ext2 file. Bundles have all latest kernel, modules, and rootfs and now calibration file. Enjoy and please report bugs, errors, and the like.:D

I am truely greatful for all you do and I hope in future there will be a flashable rom that can wipeout the window 6.5 and install android completely.

I agree when you say we have great hardware. It's true. I've already mentioned it here few days ago. For instance, topaz display resolution is only available on nowadays top mobiles. Luckily you get 320 x 480 @ 200+ eur mobiles... most of the times on 3'' displays... you almost see every pixel of your desktop! Can't understand.

But, is also true topaz hardware is out of date. HTC has no linux drivers for topaz hardware, as far as I know. Developers are trying to port/develop/adapt drivers. This could be very very hard task. Sometimes impossible at all. Also, xdandroid project seems kinda slow, right now. Probably because you can buy a native android phone for... say... 70eur! Technology runs fast. XDAndroid project is not commercial. People have lots to do. Games are not priority! Got it? :P

I've already tested angrybirds long time ago. I don't think lack of performance is regarding bad (or not) ram handling. I think it's a graphical processing (maybe opengl) issue. Our hardware was not made for it. For instance, Nexus S already has a dedicated Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)... can you imagine? :O

By the way, I'm still using Froyo since Gingerbread is very unstable.

Yes i agree with you about getting a native android device for low cost. Even if you want a most power device i can get an used hd2 here in portugal for 250/300€. Of course many people don't have that money but we must agree that the hd2 is probably the best option to have android, windows phone 7 and winmo in the same device.

After a long time having problems with android in my topaz and at the same time the lack of some features that i need for my work like bluetooth headset i decided to use winmo in my topaz with cht and i will try to get an hd2 to android.

By the way, I'm still using Froyo since Gingerbread is very unstable.

All The Galaxy S phones have a Dedicated GPU... and they came out long before the Nexus S... why they are the best at gaming and 3d performance...

but also the AMAZING 1Ghz Samsung Humming Bird Processor can Calculate 90 Million triangle per second!!!! (just the processor... not including the GPU!!!)

the 1 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processors can only do 22 million triangles per second....

also in the NeoCore 3D Benchmark tests. the Galaxy Phones (one Year Old) far surpass the Top Powerhouses like the Desire HD (new)

THESE TESTS WERE FOUND WITH THE CAPTIVATE RUNNING ECLAIR!!!!!

imagine how fast it is with FROYO!!!

I will DEfinetly Be buying the Samsung Captivate...

___________

on another note i have been using the Gingerbuild for 2 weeks now (overclocked at 700mhz)... no real problems... occasional force close ...
not going back to win mo...

I have a similar problem, I installed Froyo and yes, it happened, the process stopped unexpectedly, but in Gingerbread, it just says something like "No sd card, an sd card is needed". So, in the first case, I don't know what to do but in gingerbread, I think there could be some fix so that android saw the real microsd card as what it is and the rom image and the internal htc's memory as the internal memory, is there any way to do this?

Or could I make a partition in ext2 in the microsd card?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Made a 500mb partition on my sdcard and put android there. When I open Haret, it starts to boot but... At the end it says "rootfs not found". The partition is seen by windows mobile as "Storage Card2". What can I do so that this boots?

The partition is fat32, but is not set as primary. Shouldn't I have to reinstall every program in Windows Mobile if I set it as primary? Then, what should I do?

And, about the program (something like the bootloader). I'm on it, the welcome screen is done (where you configure it) and the database for some pictures is almost finished (not a real database, I didn't find it necessary if it's only for some images that are the icons of the OS)

Thanks a lot

Hmm, i think that haret.exe boots android only from primary partition dunno if there is actually a line to add to startup.txt because i never tried it.

Yes you have to reinstall every program if you set it as primary.

What you are doing is not actually a bootloader but a winmo program that launches on winmo boot and let you select if you want to boot directly to android through haret.exe or remain to windows. There is a program that does the same, ahh here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623792) it is.

Hi guys, is it possibile to recognize under winxp the memorycard during running android? Windows asks for driver but i don't know where to find it!

No, its not possible because Android runs from SD and to let WinXP recognize the SD card it needs to be unmounted and there will be a massive crash but this is disabled in the kernel. The same thing is in WinMo also but WinMo runs from ROM so u are able to do it.

Thanks a lot. Yes... I know what I'm doing is NOT a bootloader because if it was, you'd have to program it for the topaz, not for WM. It's a WM program, but I described it as something like a bootloader because you already knew what I was talking about ;-)

And then, should I continue developing it or it's stupid doing so now?

The things I had thought: Add up to 20 (too many, but...) OS
Cool GUI
Lock WM until you select what to do
I can upload the sources of what I've done until now if you want to.

But I have to tell you I'm only a 14 year-old Spanish guy, so there may be lots of errors in the sourcecode and in the translations.

Thanks a lot

i have the same problem, try going back to what keeps your connection. was it rootfs change, or zimage and modules change that made your connection disappear? and can you check to see if your device is seeing your network as HSDPA witout a data connection.

Edit:
I had to revert to 4-16 rootfs to enable data. zimage and modules are fine

I'm a newbie to XDAndroid, and has used it on my topaz for about 2-3 days now with the newest files found (kernel, rootfs). I'm really amazed by the variety of things I can do with my TD2, and would like to give a big thank to the developement team and developers!

The "time drift" and "no sound on incoming call" bugs are here, and wifi/bt sometimes gives up working, but the system is usable and somewhat stable (of cuz battery life is kinda short c/f native WinMo, like 8-12 hrs on Android vs 16-24 hrs on WinMo). Knowing that now that the system runs on the miniSD, did anyone have any idea if using a faster miniSD could improve performance of the system?

It was the rootfs file in the end. The new zimage and modules work great. Can see the performance improvement. Too bad about the rootfs file. All settings where enabled for data connection. I tried everything to typing it in manually etc. no luck.

The rootfs is too cool for us. haha

I hope all the present problems will be resolved by the release of kernel .35, but i dont know yet how much time it will take to reach there.

Anyways the wait was to much for me as i got my self HTC DESIRE HD, njoying android as it should be.

there has been a lot of work on .35 kernel. I really don't think "all" of the problems will be resolved with the new kernel, but here is to hoping! you can follow progress at linux-msm git here http://gitorious.org/linux-on-qualcomm-s-msm/linux-msm

Recommended best loud and clear voice values are said to be 5/1
"htc_hw.call_vol=5"
"htc_hw.handsfree=1"

Now the voice is acceptable, but the loudspeaker volume remains very low. I've modified in this way

You do know what "root" means? If your SD card is mounted as drive E, then you have to extract files to E:\

I have been trying out these updates but none of them are of any "stable" daily use. There are either random restarts, phone not charging/waking up, reboot on call etc.

I am also waiting on a working kernel

Has anyone else tried them?

latest kernel, init, etc in xdaandroid page at 05/18/2011 working in my topaz since yesterday with FRX06 and running fine.

Tips:
-Phone signal update after a few minutes... you can receive calls in that time but can't make calls.. after that all is normal.

Could it be that you are starting it for the first time? In that case it's probably at the step where you're supposed to calibrate the Touchscreen. Unfortunately the symbols you are supposed to touch are invisible/get 80% covered by text.

That's at least the problem I currently have.

Even native android uses a lot of battery. Topaz devices are designed for winmo, not android. When most of the bugs are worked out the devs will work on power management.

PS:

On Stienbds blog he says that a major release in FRX07 is in the works, as well as .35 kernel. No eta of when this will be released, but it is in the works. keep your fingers crossed that some of the major bugs are fixed.

I think in comparison to some WinMo-ROM's Xdandroid-builds run pretty smooth, stable AND they are more battery-friendly. I'm right now on Photon-ROM, but some ROM's before, battery was worse in WinMo than in Android. :D

To be honest I stopped using gingerbread a while ago. Gingerbread works great if you just want to use android. However once you install a few apps like Clocksync etc. Gingerbread freezes on lock screen after boot up.

I havent tried Gingerbread in a while until its more stable for daily use.

As for the battery life issue. I use froyo. I switch to 2g networks and use 3g networks to download apps. Battery lasts about 2days like that. Hope this helps

yes, first time instalment takes a lot of time.
If you changed your kernel or other file, it seems best is to remove 'data.img'(or back it up) from the root folder and restart.
remember to check you location in the startup.txt

All kinds of problems for me with Gingerbread. Losing data connections, locking up after sleep. Latest was to lose messaging in WinMo after a crash - the accounts were there but I couldn't connect to them until I did a hard reset (using standard 6.5 image).

I think I'll leave it a while longer and try again when FR07 and the updated kernels are sorted.

After weeks of trial and installing a bunch of apps, today I find that I cannot get into the android system (finally!), and stuck in the xdandroid animation screen. :( I guess maybe I should not push too much to the limit for my TD2? I would revert to use WM6.5 stock and wait for news here.

Once again, thanks a lot to the developers to bring this project to life!

Did you do the calibration in the boot screen properly? If not, delete the data.img file and boot android again. Then when it stops moving a block will appear in the top left corner, tap it with the stylus and the subsequent blocks after that. Android boots and done

Well, it has been nearly 2 months since last release of XDAndroid (FRX06) but we have got no new builds... It seems like XDAndroid for Topaz is finished and left in dust... No NAND builds and still not a every-day-use build... Even on CWM. Looks like Kernel .35 is not getting developed anymore. Well, I think this device is dead (As it went to Legacy Devices since 1-2 months ago)... Thanks ReWind and other developers for giving us these builds... But I think we should give up and buy a new phone (Like Samsung Galaxy S II or hTC Sensation) The reason that I didn't buy any of those, is that I want to see how iPhone 5 will look like and compare it to those two and then buy on of those three... Well I confess: I love my Topaz's design... It's really stylish and I like it so much... Even if I buy a new phone, I'd like to use it as a second phone but with an Android on it. Huh?

FRX07 is being worked on. There have been a huge amount of changes and still pending merge requests from others into the main XDAndroid repositories. It's a huge task sorting all out, testing and making sure nothing breaks.

Also there are some pending kernel changes which can only go out with FRX07 together. Also JBs audio library rework/rewrite needs both, kernel and XDAndroid (userland) update. They can't be pushed out alone. They can only be released together.

I dunno where you got the info from, that .35 is not being worked on. If you'd watch the commit logs of the kernel you'd see Alex[sp3dev] (for kovksy) and me are working constantly on it. There is also a .39 kernel in the works. (Rhod only support on that one currently.)

I am working on topa and rhod on .35 but I also take care a bit of the old kernel still and just recently did some little stuff.

I just can't release any .35 binaries because they already rely on an updated userland which is not released yet. There's some inofficial FRX06+ builds by hyc in the rhod forums which work with the new .35 and .39 test kernels.

I will eventually get some test stuff out. But beware that .27 is still working better then .35.

Impressive... I really appreciate your quick response... Well, Me and ReWind chatted a bit long time ago and he said .35 kernel is almost ready to ship out with FRX07 but that was about 2.5 months ago... I didn't contact him recently and I saw RHOD's thread which is really active and it even got a NAND test ROM. Well, if you see that activity in RHOD's thread and this activity in this thread (which went into Legacy Devices ( :( )) I think you would've judge like me :) Well you won't because you're a dev and working on it ;) I appreciate your works by the mean... I'm a dev too but not an open source dev... I work with C++ and recently I started Python. Well, I can program some libs like better drivers for 3D... But I don't have the original sources... And i'm a little time limit though... If I wasn't in Iran, I surely would've donate all of you devs... Because that would motivate you forward faster (I know how it feels ;) )
Thanks again for your answer... We are impatiently waiting for FRX07 and NAND ROM... Could you get me some release date for NAND and FRX07? I mean FRX07 will come with XDAndroid's boot loader or it's just another regular build booting from SD Card?

XDAndroid usually comes as a HaRET release, so being run from SDCard. I have not done any NAND development and I will not do so until everything works. It's way easier to push out test kernels and system updates. It makes testing for the people a lot easier.

If somebody else wan'ts to step up doing Topaz NAND, I can help out. I don't have the time for it.

.35 is not ready for prime time in terms of functionality. It was even worse 2.5 months ago. Dunno how ReWind thought it was soon to be ready :)

I don't wan't to raise any hopes, nor tell the project is dead looking at the amount of time I am sitting in front of my box and working on it. I can't tell any deadline because there's daily new stuff stepping in the way which I need to find out why are stopping functioning. A pain :)

wifi still not working..
have tried to enable disable wifi in WinMo before HARET.exe, modify RADIO's, change many ROMs, add wifi.mac = xx: xx: xx: xx on STARTUP.TXT .. any suggestions?

I had this problem when I finished installing FRX06 yesterday as well.

I used <htc-msm-linux @ 20110618_144657> at first time and Wifi didn't work.
and I found out this wifi problem was also announced in the version comment line.

When I changed to older version <htc-msm-linux @ 20110618_135046>,
Wifi problem was no longer appeared~

You can try the older version, see it's working or not~

And there is newest version <htc-msm-linux @ 20110621_164623> of zImages coming out.

I haven't tested it, maybe they fix this problem in new version.

Wow... So it's like "TBA" to me :D
I'm just wondering... Leo's Android got developed real fast... Since it was newer than Topaz and Topaz's project was already started when Leo got released... But now, Leo has a fully functional NAND Android and WP7 (Which we can't have because of our old ARMv6 CPU) and we've got just some Android :D Not to offense any devs but if they focused on each device like first we fix Topaz then we move to Rhodium, we could get a better Android... I'm sure it could be that way. Anyways, I hope to see this happening soon... If in FRX07, 3D works normal and we can use Storage Mode, that would be a big step... (When I say 3D, I mean Angry Birds working well!! This game means a lot to me! :D)

Leo had many developers and they all had the same device and could get things done quickly.
The problem "we" have, is that we have/want to support *6* devices. (DIAM, RAPH, BLAC, KOVS, RHOD & TOPA) These 6 devices all have different machine variants. E.g. RAPH500+RAPH800 and RHOD400+RHOD500 are quite different in some aspects regarding their other brothers.

I only know myself doing development for Topaz. Dunno any other active developer owning one. So it all boils down to me. The other developers can't do anything for Topaz as they do not own the device. It's totally sick to code in the dark, really.

You wan't fluent Angry Birds? Then get a new phone. There might be some improvements possible, but the graphics processor in the Topaz (iirc an Adreno 130) can't really compete with any newer GPU.

Hello,

I am pretty new to this project, i didn't follow it from the beginning, so i am really a noob here. I have a touch diamond 2 and wanted to test xdandroid on my phone. So i followed the instructions on the first page and downloaded the bundle package. Installed everything on the SDCard.

After having started haret.exe i had a first issue that the calibration points didn't show up. After some search i found a calibration file here on th forum. Installed it and xdandroid loaded after the configuration time.

Issues that i had here, if this is an issue, the screen switched off and even when using the home button, the screen had problems to switch on. In fact i had to use the button an then tab on the screen.

Another issue i have is that even entering the pin code, i never got a gsm connection. After reading the wiki i followed the instruction on how to add new apn. Adding a new APN, this on never showed up in the list after saving it. In fact i had to restart the phone again, relaunch xdandroid. Trying to make test call, this never worked.

Also had some system hang up, the phone stopped responding. Again reset of the phone.

After this reading again the first page i downloaded, i think, the latest rootfs.img file. After starting again xdandroid, my phone operator was found automatically but the system didn't stop to hang up and i had to reset the phone.

Also read about the LED always beeing green or orange, on my phone the LED never stayed green or orange.

I never did an update of the phone, only updated from WinMo6.1 to WinMo6.5. Never installed a new Rom or whatever.

I am probably doing sthg wrong, btut as i said, i am new to this project and wanted to try it.

If someone has an idea or could guide me.

Thanks

So far what u did is correct....
Installed the first time yesterday and then 5x points didn't turn out fine. Got the file to managed that.

Today, tested out couple of function...

1) for the pin, disable this in the WinMO prior to booting it in android. Should fix that problem
2) Well, I would say don't care about the LED but focus on the core which is the phone functionality. Mine crashed a couple of times when there is an incoming call and NO voice heard from the other party; when i try to hang up, it just freeze there. The only way is to take out the batt..... Any ideas?
3) So far, all the other feature is working nicely including Whatsapp, FB and all those small stuff.
4) Can't get any calendar to be displayed even though there is the calendar sync using MyPhoneExplorer. Any ideas..?
5) For best practice - do i require to reset WinMo to the factory stage for the Android to work best?

Its fun going in with Android .....

You should make a first call after booting Android – to your own number, for instance. Then you can answer any calls with no issues.

Hi all professional developer.

I have two question would like to ask. Please help

1. I want to run this Android rom more faster in my TD2. So, Is there any method to uninstall the default Facebook and youtube program in WM6.5 for free up the RAM in TD2?

2. My Girl friend really really want to play the game "Coins Pirates", but It fails to run every time althrough i have free up all the ram to run this game. The game shutted down automatically everytime. At first I think the game is too large to run (about 5M), however, I have tried another game "Farm Valley" (nearlly 12M) and it can run ! So, do anyone know what's going on?

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

Well, I just realized .35 and .39 kernels are released at glemsomAutobuilds... Well that's a good news. But the bad news is it seems nothing is working!!! :D But I know XDAndroid dev team is working on it hard... After 2 months, I know have a hope to have a nice Android on Topaz... Before it gets drift away because of my new phone, I love to use it as a secondary android phone... FRX07 is on it's way and could be released any days from now... Still waiting for a NAND boot loader... :)

no, they have not released .35 and .39 kernels yet. not through glemson autobuild. It is still .27 for now, but they are working on the new kernels. infact, they are not even working on .39, only .35.

Remember those kernels require an updated userland (XDAndroid) with the audio library changes. These builds will not work, at least not work very well with FRX06 or GBX0A. So don't complain.

I checkd this Project a year or more ago, and Android was not usable on my Topaz.
Today, i wanted to give it another try. Turns out: Android runs pretty sweet on my old Topaz...

There are just 2 anoying things:
1: I can't see the Display Calibration Icons... My Screen is locked in this "booting style". So all i see is text... nothing more... Gladly i figured it out :)
2: I got no Sound... Well... Apps are making sounds ;) But i can't choose a Ringtone or SMSTone... The Phone is also in silent mode...

Any Ideas?

//Edit: Point 2 is solved! Restart Android, activate silent mode and deactivate i

Hi, go to this webpage:
http://glemsom.users.anapnea.net/android2/htc-msm-linux/
and then download a package. Once downloaded, rename zImage**** to just zImage and copy both files to your android folder (SD Root, ANDBOOT or whatever you did choose for your android path) It will replace old zImage with this new one and you gotta remove old *module*.tar.gz and leave the new one. I'm using a Custom 6.5 ROM for WM and disabled HTC Sense.
According to "AndroidAssistent" the cpu isn't the Problem. I don't think the RAM is either.

Android has to run from an SD Card. If the Card is too slow, Android will be slow too.
But anyway... an SD Card is always slower than the NAND :(

Hey everyone.

Since yesterady, i have a nasty bug... It's not that bad, but it's a bug :)
Sometimes when i reboot my Android, it won't start. It get's stuck in the bootscreen.
If i rename my "data.img" to "dataimg" and boot it again, it's starting and creating a new DataStore. Of course, all my Apps and Settings are gone. It's like i wiped my Device...

But now it's getting realy wired...
If i shutdown my Android, boot into WinMo, delete the new "data.img" and rename my old "dataimg" back to "data.img" - Android is booting.

try installing it on an formatted sd card first, then you are sure nothing interferes from the previous installation.
Also try to register the device to the network using the mobile network settings/mobile providers, and do an automatic selection.( you probably did this already, just to be sure)

You should activate the Wi-Fi feature in WinMo before booting Android.

Remember that there is no real upgrade path possible.
If you want to go for FRX07 then you will have to start from scratch, and reinstall everything. It is the way this set-up works out of the box. But removing previous config files seems mandatory.

Everything seems to work so fare( after complete configuration). Phone ea, screen, wake, audio( though a bit still) camera/video, 3D, sensors, GPS,
There are some random glitches like sporadic reboot(x1) or loss of communication( only one very annoying time so fare, ) but no lockups so fare and good wakeup.
One's I had loss of sim connection but was still able to brows the net(even after rebooting), then it auto connected sim after some xx min... very strange.

As for lagging, I must add that my device is oc'ed to 710 max which makes it an somewhat different experience. (..!)

One thing I 'really' miss, is the FM radio. It is working in Adroid roms but is seriously missing in XAndroid( little hint here dev ;))
And of course, converting this to an dedicated rom would be just on time.

Ok... I formatted my SDCard, installed the new Version, applyed the Patch (http://xdandroid.com/wiki/Incremental_Updates) but my Droid won't boot...

the little Tux in the upper left coner appears and lots of UnixBoot Messages...
The last message is:
[ 2.501251] allocated dma buffer at ffc0b000, dma_addr 2424e000

it won't boot any further than that. Even if i wait for a couple of minutes...
any ideas?

Just reset (soft-reset) and try again. It happens occassionally.

Good it works now.

You guys should slowly take a look at the FRX07 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178546). It also contains a huge FAQ link at the top.

Disable data connection in the wireless connections>mobile settings. Also disable background sync in case it tries to enable it. Dunno exactly, as I have it always enabled. Please look around in the settings where these options are. If you don't find them, you didn't search enough. ;)

You should be updating to FRX07 release, though first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178546

Well, either a) you don't have a rootfs.img file where you're running haret.exe from (make sure it's named rootfs.img, make sure file extensions are shown), or b) you've put Android/haret not at the root (in a folder) and didn't specify rel_path in your startup.txt.

BTW, this thread is old. I need to find a mod to unsticky it. FRX07 is out...

WOW my first boot took 15 min till the screen went black...
after touching the screen i saw a few more lines running till i
could see the xdandroid animation for lets say 3 min. after this
time it made a softreset ...

Now it took 1-2 min. after HaRet to see the xdandroid
animation which kept playing 2 min. more till i had a short
vibration... then 10 sec. later i had the next softreset...

22:13 Haret
22:14 xdanroid animation
22:15 Vibration & Softreset

... and so on...

I copied the Zip archive to the root of the SD Card plus copied
startup.txt from STARTUP/Topas to the SD root....

any ideas ?

Edit:
Now i used the latest kernel 20110819 and it is running loops between xdandroid animation and unlock screen

First, this thread is old. Please use FRX07 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178546).

Second, I would make sure you're on the newest kernel & rootfs. Also make sure you don't skip the ts-calibration step!

I just found this like that, and was about to post this too. But also, if you look around, you will also notice this: http://www.gadgetsbing.com/2011/01/more-details-on-hp-webos-tablet-topaz-are-released/

If you look even closer in the video or some of the stills, you will see that its this exact build (even has the build date as 3-25). I'm not really saying the video is fake, but maybe they used this build as a trial build for it? Don't know.

Not yet.

Perhaps in time...

Since Android isn't stable on SD card installs, it really won't be stable if it was flashed. Don't put the cart before the horse.

Nothing is touched on WinMo... probably the best part of the HaRET way of doing things.

With that said, I don't know - does it work on the HTC Pure? Is that just the AT&T version of the TOPAZ...? It sure does look like it. Try it out... Tell us what happens.

Not yet. There's still quite a bit of work to be done. RHOD is still in the infancy stages - and hopefully once it becomes more mature, other devices can be brought on board. This stuff takes time, and there's not many developers left that are actively developing for this project.

Please use the FRX07 release in the TOPA forum. Also make sure you update to the latest pieces (kernel, rootfs). The calibration file is attached to the FRX07 thread here. Also see http://xdandroid.com/wiki/Incremental_Updates on how to get the newer/updated components, which got released after the initial release.

I have successfully worked out a method for allowing Android mount the SD card.

1) The method will allow you to download files via your browsers

2) Install loads of apps and place gigabytes of maps on your SD card root

Please do not reply and say it does not work because I have it working, cheers.

I do NOT hold responsibly for your loss of data or anything else. It's your decision, not mine. Loss or damage is at your own risk!!

1) Using your PC and adapter for your SD, backup your SD card data on your hard disk.

2) Download and install Minitool partition wizard.

!!!! BE CAREFULL AT STEP 3 !!!
3) Resize the SD card partition leaving the smallest amount of unallocated space (approximately 7.34MB after the first partition. Then create a primary partition in the 7.34MB (approximately) and give it a name like ANDROID. Minitool will warn you about not being able to see more than one primary partition on a removable, this is true and you can ignore that. Apply the changes, then exit minitool.

NOTE: ANDROID only has to see a mountable partition (the 7.43MB) but does NOT actually need to use it

4) Now copy your previous data to your SD card.

5) Now you can insert the SD card in your phone and launch XAndroid

6) Enjoy! You will now find you will be able to download huge files from your browsers without the 'please insert SD / no SD card available' or something like that. You can save files on the anywhere on you SD card (first partition i.e. the partition that Android runs from). You can also install loads of apps.

If you want to install Copilot, you copy the 'copilot' folder to the root of your SD card. That is the copilot folder with all your maps inside. The copilot.apk goes in AndroidApps folder.

:)

First, this thread is ancient. FRX07.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178546) is the newest.

Second, WinMo and Android are very different operating systems. Plus, our port is far from complete.

Windows Mobile is not overwritten by Android. For Android you need to put some files onto the SD-Card. To start Android you need to boot first Win Mob and then start it from there. To go back to Win Mob just reboot the phone.

Have a look to the corresponding threads.
