Anyone running the new 2.0.1 build? if so let me know how the live wallpapers are working for you.

It works for me too :)
a good looking turning cube :P
cant you port the wallpaper with the water? that one looks nice ;)

can I keep my data file (from 2.01) if I try this new live wallpaper version?

No, it will boot and all but i had problems with some settings i thought, it's better to remove (but didnt tested with this build)
between different kernel versions (but same android), it's not a problem I guess :)

I also like the option of more languages in 2.0.1 :) finally i have android in my native language, that's not in 1.6 ;)
(but english is good too, my winmo is in english)

Edit: and it runs quite smooth, smoother then the last time i ran 2.0.1, i guess 1.6 is still a little faster, but this 2.0.1 is certainly very usable ;)

You know I really like the idea of GDE and themes (hero theme) but it was so buggy for me ... crashes all the time. Anyone here have good experiences with these type of theme apps?

On a separate topic though, is there a way for me to skin the bottom tab to look different ... like is there a png to update and a setting file to specify coordinates? Perhaps there's a sort of "kitchen" environment to work in for those not totally familiar with Android development?

Hmm, a kitchen enviroment? hmm... www.ubuntu.com... LOL
Honestly, thats what I am using, though now in a virtual machine. I am still learning my way around it, and I have to re-make my sqsh building scripts, I may just release a vmware image if you would like to have one set up already.

Oh and skinning the bottom tab is a .png file located in the launcher.apk file.

I've not been able to get the End button to work in any of the latest build (rhodium). As a result, i can't seem to get the screen back to life coming out of sleep (supposed to use menu+end) and I've got every other line red.
How can we get the end key back? or get the screen to wake up correctly.
BTW, any kernel after Jan 11 does this. Current have the 15 Jan Shadowline 2.01 setup, simple startup.txt and no other apps loading.

live wallpaper works on the build posted on post 4, 2.01.
Screen aligment is a bitt off, especially notice this when trying the live wallpaper, if i press somewhere a circle appears and it is 3-4 mm below the stylus.

This is only annoying when typing (sometimes a character below is selected) or when browsing, hitting wrong links etc.

Is there a way to "move" the aligment, right-left is okay but not bottom-top,.

i have the same offset. in the default.txt there is a line that starts "set msmts_calib=0x395.0x3d5.0x79.0xa0 ... "

in the wiki it says the values are x-min y-min x-max y-max

so i think that by changing 0xa0 to something smaller - say 0x98 ... this may fix it but im not sure because i haven't been able to try.

I have been running the new build 2.01 for a while now, and it works great.

Other then that it gets a bit hot, screen is a bit missaligned and sometimes a bit slow its reliable. It sleeps, wakes and starts wifi reliable. Data i need to configure APN manualy (halebop sweden).

To wake the device, just press end-call button once and keep tapping on the screen until you se the lockscreen. If you dont tap the screen the device will go back to sleep, because it takes 3-4 sec to get image on the screen.

That didnt make it better, i think it made it missaligned to the right (the stylus is right to the object).
We should have a simple app that reads the X-Y values on screen when you tap it, that way we might be able to calibrate it easier. But as i said, the horizontal aligment is good, the vertical is not. I think this has to do with the zoombar on the bottom. If i press on it icons on the edge (but not below the stylus) reacts just as if the scrollbar is just a extension to the normal touchpanel.

delete all old android files, everything. and download the new package for 2.01 on post 4, and it will work.

for me it crashed with could not find blablalba, until i realised there was something wrong in old config files in one of the directories. Just extracting and replacing old files with the new didnt help, i had to delete all old files even those that wherent incl. in the new release (those that andorid create during boot).

Hi! I need some help here! :)

I had downloaded 8/1 2.01 release and extracted in my SD.
No old files from older releases in there.
When trying booting, it was freezing in some point at command line screen.
So i deleted all android files.

Now with 15/1 2.01 release, i downloaded the rar package from post 4, extracted in SD's root.
It goes through the command line, shows the animated "X" logo and after a while it starts showing me messages about not starting apps like "fail to start process google.process.phone" or something like that. The only option is to force close.
Deleted all files (android files, not my othes stuff fron SD) extracted several times but same thing happens.

Am i doing something wrong?

Yes, I noticed that in the default.txt from shadowline the mtmts value is not this one 0x395.0x3d5.0x79.0xa0, it's an older one so maybe you just have to change it
this 0x395.0x3d5.0x79.0xa0 value is the one I found, but also by just trial and error (testing some values and trying it again, with respect to the ratio etc and testing it with stylus pointing at a point on the screen) and i know it's not perfect, the alignment changes when you go from the one to the other edge of the screen, probably because of a wrong ratio, and i also noticed that the touch at the bottom goes below the screen too (on the zoom bar)

I can't run HARET, after a while it frozes and says "Can't mount SD card..."

there is other stuff off in the default.txt that shadowline posted last, namely this:
Shadow:
lcd.density=240 mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480
Older 1.6 on post 4:
lcd.density=220

On the older post, mddi.width and height is not there, anything strange? I will try running without those in the default and se what happens. I will also use the calib. from 1.6 in 2.01 and se if the aligment is better.

the
lcd.density=240
was something that came here a long time ago and someone said it is better for programs to fit to the screen, or something like that, i didnt test other values but it seems good
for the
mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480
Indeed, this is new in shadowline's default.txt, i guess it's the size of the screen to resize to our resolution (those numbers are the resolution of the hero), i think it's necessary for the live wallpapers to work, but not sure :)
actually i would understand it more if it was our resolution (480x800), that would say it's resized to our resolution, i guess ;)
but shadowline will know the real answer ;)

I edited the default.txt and changed shadowlines calibration to this:
msmts_calib=0x395.0x3c9.0x79.0x77

And now the calibration is nearly perfect again, no offset horizontaly - perhaps on borders but i didnt imediately notice any big problems (useing live wallpaper cube as reference because it lets me move a circle around).

I also removed this from shadowlines default.xt but im not sure what it did:

mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480

So now my entire default.txt looks like this:

set MTYPE 2293
set KERNEL zImage
#set FBDURINGBOOT 0
set initrd initrd.gz

#pwf dm.txt 0x8e0000 0x20000
#pwf smem.txt 0x01f00000 0x100000
#msmts_calib=0x376.0x3c1.0x6a.0x8a
set cmdline "msmts_calib=0x395.0x3c9.0x79.0x77 clock-7x00.a11=500 msmvkeyb_toggle=off pmem.extra=1 gsensor_axis=-1,-2,3 lcd.density=240 no_console_suspend"
#mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480
boot

Anyway, i just recomend chaning msmts_calib to my values.

Thanks for the work mate, this shows great promise!

I will try them too :) but the calibration can be for every device a little different (that's the reason there is calibration software delivered with your device ;) ), so it can be that other people experience other results with your values

So now my entire default.txt looks like this:

set MTYPE 2293
set KERNEL zImage
#set FBDURINGBOOT 0
set initrd initrd.gz

#pwf dm.txt 0x8e0000 0x20000
#pwf smem.txt 0x01f00000 0x100000

#mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480
boot

The # means it's put in 'comment' so that line isn't read by haret (although, i think), so you can delete those lines too and make your default.txt more compact :P

also a tip, when you change the name 'default.txt' to 'startup.txt', you dont have to press the 'run' anymore in haret, it's starts directly :)

I think you have to remove the '#' before the 'pwf dm.txt 0x8e0000 0x20000' on your sdcard to get the dm.txt

and you have a topaz or rhodium?
I think you just have to try again and wait longer, i sometimes also have a message that a process is stopped (but then i can press 'wait') and if i wait, it still continues

I wanted to give android 2.01 a try on my rhodium, however I'm having a slight issue. As soon as I run haret, I get the two vibrations, and then my screen goes black. I'm not getting the normal command line bootup showing at all. My phone acts like it's off until I do a reset. I'm using the default_rhodium.txt renamed to default.txt. I tried searching for a solution but couldn't find anything. Any advice?

Had the same issue. Ended up having to delete SD card and copy original files back over. Definitely means no persistence in user settings. :(

Some other issues I've noticed: Red pixelation in the middle of the screen on white backgrounds. Phone does also feel a little warmer than on the WinMo side, so I'm definitely thinking some power management issues exist. Keyboard backlighting doesn't work, but I think I remember reading it wouldn't. Phone works, but dialer lags pretty badly. For the devs: the Rhodium uses a magnet to change orientation and turn off screen lock when the phone is slid open. Similar to the stylus. I think it might be better using the KB magnet than the stylus.

I'm a CCNA type so the software side is all greek to me. :) I am trying to brush up on my linux skills though so I can possibly help later down the road. If nothing else to be able to point out the bugs more accurately.

The build we try creates Android folder on SD. Next time we boot, it expects to find files there, not in root. So before each boot either delete wole Android folder OR figure out where the files supposed to be placed. Maybe all files should be in Android folder, not root.

I have moved SYSTEM.SQSH and DATA.IMG to Android folder and it's now booting. I also noticed a message "using Android/Conf/xxx" so I guess I also move the whole Conf folder into Android folder too. I guess it's nice this way, I never format my SD, have lots of other things/folders o it, so having Android under one folder is nice.

lol :) calm calm.. you dont have to shout so loud.. :| you can also ask your question like a normal person, instead of this one with a lot of exclamation marks and long words.... :s

the 1.6 is still the development android and this one will always have the newest updates, shadowline just updated the 2.0.1 to the latest combined multi-device kernel of glemsom (link: see wiki) but that kernel also works perfectly with 1.6, and the updates that markinus gives are always 1.6

and calling a version 'stupid' is also weird.. ok, it's a little slower, but stupid? it has more functionality and looks better!

Just tossing in my comments. Recently downloaded current files, Phone boots good but overall very slow and it might be regularsometimes but the battery I assume or phone got really hot. when reset and try to boot again it hangs on the lunix booting screen, Fixable by deleting all files in sd card and copying them again.

There's my two cents,
P.S not whining about these bugs just letting people know what is working on the HTC Pure.

Yes since markinus is working with 1.6 and bundling that, I am working with 2.0.1 and keeping that up to date, since that version is still undergoing the porting process. Eventually I will move on to 2.1 when that is at a reasonable stage too.
1.6 is still the most bug free and therefor is the "Supported" version so to speak. 2.0.1 is the cool and flashy version that is slower and less stable for us.

Also for those with wifi issues, keep trying the new versions of the glemson kernel for now, sometimes things break in a version, or it just may get fixed. Worse case scenario it is a bug with 2.0.1 if that is what you are using. If you are on 1.6 it is the kernel.

for people who can't start Android anymore, try the following, it worked for me:

I have moved SYSTEM.SQSH and DATA.IMG to Android folder and it's now booting. I also noticed a message "using Android/Conf/xxx" so I guess I also move the whole Conf folder into Android folder too. I guess it's nice this way, I never format my SD, have lots of other things/folders o it, so having Android under one folder is nice.

Yes, but in case of shadownline release, the correct folderfor SYSTEM and DATA is "Android" folder on SD. So you can create it yourself, put SYSTEM.SQSH in there and boot for the first time, DATA.IMG will be created there, in Android folder.

OK here are the exact steps taken:

*format sd
*download Shadowline-2.0.1-1-15-10.zip from post #4 (big "download now" button)
*extract in a temp folder
*create Android folder and move those 2 files in there
*copy all files and folders in root of the sd
*disable pin code
*enable wifi
*run heret

after command line process, the "X" logo show for a while and the a screen appears with an "android" and a message at the bottom "Welcome to Eclair, Touch the android to begin"

Instantly, a popup message says that cannot start process google.proscces.phone. and stops there. nothing else i can do!!!

did you find anything strange?

if you have a topaz (htc pure for me) use the 2.0.1 i havent try the 1.6 for a long while. But for me 2.0.1 works the same as the 1.6 Just follow the instructions on post 4 and you should be okay.

Okay this was my issue too so if your sd card has a folder called Android put the system.sqsh in there if theres a Data.img file in there then just leave it. Boot again and should work.

keyboard process sometime stops responding but it works (just wait and keybord should appear)

I tried to keep the wiki as updated as possible and made it readable for beginners who just came to the android world and didnt read the complete thread, so i was a little disappointed that an android beginner (i guess you were one ;) ) didnt find the links they were searching for in the wiki..

If you want to try the multi-device kernel, you can also combine it yourself (see second part of the 'current release' section), but the 'official test release' is the kernel that is made especially for topaz/rhodium and comes in complete packages :)

Hey Devs
I think you have a big problem with the energy management! Not only the battery only lasts for about 6 hours the battery also gets very (and I mean 40 deg. Celsius) hot...
When I turn on Android (Kernel: htc-msm-android@20100116_163203, with latest 2.0.1) I can feel the device getting hot. But that's not the big deal. When you plug-in the power cable the battery and the whole device warms up like hell. I think this is really dangerous for the battery and the device parts...

Would be great if you could fix that!

no you cant at the moment (and the reason is in the wiki below the keymapping table..)
Note: It's until now impossible to split the 'End Call' and 'Power' function in the code, so this last function can't be linked to Power button without it being 'End Call' too. Thus for the ease of ending a call, this function is placed on the normal End Call button and Power button is 'Home'.

Just quick question :-)
I view this topic and everything related to this now for the last 2 months, and i often browse over terms like Diam100, Diam200, like on the updates and bugreports at glemsom.

Can anyone please tell me wich model is wich one? Or at least can someone tell me what i have with my german o2 branded Touch Diamond 2? I know that software doesnt matter for model, only hardware, so i think it doesnt matter that i have original ROM instead of o2 ROM.

Thanks in advance.:)

First of all, my most amazed congratulations!!
Althought I'm in no way able to help (outside testing, of course) I can see the enormous and friendly effort you've put. Not only building but also replying to any questions :)

I've been testing all versions for 2010 (all zImages as well), and they seem really more stable than expected. In fact, they are so great that I'm starting to get frustrated for not being able to use Android as my daily OS :(

And that points to something intriguing (at least for me) : since we're talking about a phone's OS, I think/feel the most important part is to get the phone functionality, right? But none of the versions I tried has sound... I can't know that someone is calling me!

It's so near to "ready" that the sound absence seems strange.
And, if there's no sound, why are there (some builds) folders full of sounds/ringtones, etc?

It's a great interface for a nice sall computer... but not a phone until I can know someone's calling me. If there's anywhing you need/want me to test on my phone, please, be my guests :)

Best wishes, congratulations and a big THANK YOU

It is nowhere near "Ready," There is a LOT still to be done. Sound is of a big concern for the next feature to be included, and we are only waiting on the driver for it. That is why everything else is already there. This is by no means meant to be used as the primary OS on the phone yet because of the issues, and It probably will not be for months to come. Give it time. It will grow. :D

Since I'm using the work of others, I read all posts (no kidding) before writing, so I know about the driver issue. I was mostly cheering "Go, sound go, go, go!"

Yes, I have been doing it since the very first day here, and the very first day they ported the kaiser port. No data lost, and nothing bad has ever happened.

Haha oke, was thinking, maybe google would find me and kick my ass for not using a legit android build =P
I now have a problem with my android 2.01 on my topaz though
First start without pin went great, then the phone restarted for some reason.
I went to the .exe file and restarted android, but its stuck in some loop.

i recall something with mount 27 times or till 180 days have passed, then the loop:

info; task rpcrouter:15 blocked for more then 120 sec.
<more stuff>
"echo 0 > proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout

that info / echo stuff repeats itself allot.

Edit:

It boots again if i delete the map "Android" in my storage card root, is that the normal way to boot android?

Is there a way to post the log rather then typing it ? Its kinda much

Google is watching you now. :D

As per your comment on deleting the android folder. Yes that is a bug in my build that will be fixed in the next release. For now follow the link for babijoee's build which is what mine was based on, but updated. :D

you have to start the haret.exe to use it!
haret shuts down windows mobile and starts android!

Blac100 had "always" sound working. It's just that Markinus broke their sound in his commits, and he fixed it, that's why they mention it.

Edit:Ouch, I said I fixed it, but I'm totally wrong, he fixed it.

As we are many that jump every time someone mention the word sound, could anyone of the great minds behind the progress so far give a latest update on the progress and estimated time for this feature?

I dont know if anybody would be able to. You can check the log at #htc-linux and there are discussions going on. I would say that its hard to give any timing. Its just trouble shooting.

they are working on it and they will announce sound working only when there is something to say that can be tested or at least understood by everybody here.
if you have hardware programmin skills you can follow and help them on irc, otherwise hammering here asking "does it works" will simply flood this thread.

Hi I was wondering, once this becomes stable would it be possible to get android as the main OS and wipe everything so there would be no need to run winmo at all?

I have been a loyal winmo fan for a while now and have always rooted for winmo. I always wanted them to succeed but i feel they have let us down with poor app implementation and just being plane slow. I have resisted the iphone for a while but just seeing the google maps app on the iphone compared to the winmo version it just pisses me off. Android is the only other alternative and a damn good one with open source apps which means its a powerful OS to go with.

I would like to run android permenantly on the topaz as i feel its one of the best built phones out there htc did a good job on this one!

Hello,

Incredible idea, thanks for the time your are putting to develop this application.
I try the previous version and it was working as advertised.

After launching the haret and pressing run my phone vibrate twice and I have a black screen.

Only solution is to take the battery out and putting back in. My phone then restart in windows mobile.

If you need any more information let me know.
Otherwise I am just going to wait for the next version to test :)

Good job guys anyway and thanks again

I've been using babijoee's build on my topaz all day today and I must say its pretty promising. It was Really slow at first but after a couple hours its running nearly as fast as my buddy's G1.
Of course, no sound, no gps, no bluetooth, and the keyboard input totally sucks. I tried to install the beta of swype floating around but it crashed :(

Despite these problems, I'm almost ready to run this all the time. Windows mobile is just falling too far behind in terms of application support.

Keep up the good work guys and I can't wait to have these missing features!

One quick question: what class storage card are most people using? I'm using a class 4 but I was wondering if things would speed up significantly if I got a class 5 or 6...

I got really used to the "hold" functionality on the Topaz keyboard (hold "a" for "!", etc) and I'm missing it on the Android. I didn't need to switch keyboards to write "meet me at 9:30"

Any way to enable that keyboard on Android? Or some suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!

If your card is too fast its also causing trouble and its not booting so this might make not so much sense. Later on if its stable there might be a real ROM which solves the speed issue.

Just tried Shadowline's latest package with the latest kernel from http://glemsom.anapnea.net/android/htc-msm-android/.

Is it supposed to take very long? It doesn't have to create a data-file as it is included in Shadowline's package.

I see a lot of lines telling me:

you have to use the 1.6 build, that one is faster then ten 2.x
and it's still in an experimental stage, so there will be more things that aren't working good, dont expect it working perfectly soon, the devs are working good and have their personal things too :)

The person on the other end can hear me but I can't hear them save when I turn on the speakerphone. I've trawled the forums for a solution but nothing so far. Internal speaker doesn't work in android either. Was working in WM - first booted android, internal speaker didn't work - restarted in WM and found that the internal speaker didn't work. I've tried flashing numerous shipped and cooked roms and it didn't resolve it. Like you said, it's sounding more like a hardware problem. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Cheers.

That really does suck. Try removing battery and putting in again and doing hard reset. Perhaps something fried the speaker, maybe android put out a DC signal to it and it burnt it out..

Look on the bright side - good excuse to buy an N1 or HD2 :D

Hi.

I've been toying with the 2.0.1 Android version on my Pure(topaz) and have made the following observations:

First off, I'm running Android201-1810-Topaz as obtained from the wiki (which also links to this thread). I haven't tried any of the newer zImages or such yet...mostly cuz I'm not sure what I need to download from where. (If someone wants to clarify that a bit, I'd be happy to try an updated kernel.)

Obviously, as indicated before, the sound/gps/camera/g-sensor don't work. Which is fine...we all know you're working on it. Honestly, sound is the only thing I'm really missing at the moment. (It's amazing how one takes something so seemingly minor for granted. lol)

However, despite my every effort and all the tricks mentioned here, I can't get wifi or bluetooth to turn on in android. Tried turning on in WM, tried manually specifying the wifi mac in set cmdline ""...but to no avail. I did notice a line that said wlan.ko couldn't be found during the boot process.

Whatever state the top-left LED is in when I boot android, that is the state the LED will stay in until I reboot. Android doesn't touch it...or the LED backlighting on the hardware buttons at the bottom (always off)...not sure if that's been mentioned yet. And the LCD backlight NEVER turns itself completely off, no matter how I set the cmdline option for pm. It dims it...but you can still see it's on in a dark room. The LCD is off, but the backlight remains at it's lowest brightness. It reminds me of a slide dimmer, but this one doesn't have an "off" location...and android doesn't know about the on/off switch. I have tried changing settings in WM's backlight and power settings, but haven't found a combination that has any affect.

I also noticed today that android will randomly drop to GPRS (or so says the icon)...I'm on AT&T US and had a flawless 3G until now. I've also been noticing that there will be multiple listings in available mobile carriers...sometimes an ATT with several cingular entries, sometimes several cingulars with no ATT network available, and variations in between. I can connect to any of them and get 3G and such, and I haven't seen a tower identify itself around here as Cingular in more than a year...so I'm not sure where Android is getting mixed up. WM only reports AT&T as an available carrier. Perhaps it's a local network issue, but I mentioned it in case I'm not alone.

I believe this particular build was designed for the touch diamond 2...however, I think you can simply change the MTYPE number in DEFAULT.TXT to rid yourself of your current error. Pretty sure the TP2 MTYPE is 2292...but you may wanna double check. I only recall that from what I've read in passing in my own searches (and a quick 5 second google search I just did).

Hope that helps.

Wow what a review :)
So you wrote that you're running an old build and some errors (backlight e.g.) got fixed.
If you want the newest one do this:
1. Donwload the lastest Package (with good rating) from here: http://glemsom.anapnea.net/android/htc-msm-android/
2. Unzip it and rename the zImage.Whatever# to zImage
3. Download the lastest Android files. For 2.0.1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751
4. Unzip the Android files and delete zImage and module-blabla
5. Into the folder STARTUP CONFIG is the folder Topaz. Copy the STARTUP.TXT from there to the root of the Android files (where the zImage was)
6. Copy the zImage and module from the Kernel Package to the root of the Android files.
7. Copy this whole stuff on your SDCard.
8. Have fun :p

For those that are downloading my 2.0.1 package, download this build from "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751" and just replace the system.sqsh into my build and it will work much better. I would make a new package but I have horrible upload speeds right now.

Wow, this new build is getting close.

I was not able to get the G sensor to work either.

Was not able to pick up the call from the answer screen.
Need to mess with the calibration and re-arrange some of the hard buttons.

Speed is definitely improved since my last run (which was early last week).

Still drains the battery, but it's now something I'd leave run for an extended period of time while I have access to power....

Edit: Maybe not, battery says 59C.... Toasty :)

Ok...after posting last night, I placed the files from zImage-modules-20100120_021205 into my original build and didn't notice any noteworthy changes. I'm going to try downloading the latest XDANDROID.22.01 from the link in your 3rd step. I don't think I need to merge glemsom's latest build as it says the latest build has already been included (and the modules filename matches the latest glemsom build).

*crosses fingers* Let's see what's what!

UPDATE: Updated to new build, pretty much everything is the same...had to revert the lcd to 240dpi (the new build default for topaz was set at 210, which was nice until you try to use the onscreen keyboard lol). Wifi now turns on...however, I'm running into the same problem as many others, once it is on it simply won't turn off without shutting down the phone...and it is back on when you boot back into android. There goes the battery life! Bluetooth still isn't turning on for me.

Not getting any service at all with the "force_cdma=1" option. It's still showing "GSM phone found" when booting. I even tried yanking the SIM card

Ignore: On a side note, the startup.txt seems to be wrong. I had to change the "set ramsize" from "0x10000000" to "0x6000000" otherwise it wouldn't boot

Yes.. i can.. but in any case sound (for example) dosent works. As i know ALL devices like Wi-Fi, BlueTooth, Sound, Gsm.... etc it is a part of processor. Processors in Hero and topaz have the same architecture. And this device are very match alike by hardware. Why it is so hard to make full working buld for Topaz? Why we can't use "drivers" (kernel modules) which was written by HTC for Hero. And Why modules which was written for BlackStone doesn't works for Topaz

Sound (like camera, GPS, others) is mostly a software problem, but an AMSS software problem, on which we have no doc nor any control.

Fortunatly I know more about android than about wm so to answer your question, there is a single file on the root of the memory card called "robo_defense_full.bak" this is the file you need to keep in order to save your progress, the file mentioned above is for the full paid version of the app I believe the demo version is something like "robo_defense_demo.bak" as long as you don't delete that when you change firmwares you should be fine, it has survived many firmwares on my g1 with no problems.

Mad props go out to the development team, android is getting very close to an everyday usable os on my t-mobile touch pro 2, keep up the good work and don't loose sleep over it

if developers are trying to get everything working, that means that they want to get it stable, no?
it's even stable now for all your phone business, but some things dont work yet (like sound and a good power management and many other), but it will someday :) and then it will get into a ROM-form too normally

Ok finally have some time to build the kernel here, but something seems to be wrong with the configuration...

Grabbed the latest arm tools, git and then did a checkout which didn't do anything (still trying to get my head around git - long time cvs user)
git clone git://git.linuxtogo.org/home/groups/mob ... kernel.git
git checkout -b htc-msm-2.6.27 origin/htc-msm-2.6.27

I am using arch/arm/config/htctopaz_defconfig as my .config

Then did the build with:
make zImage ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=arm-none-linux-gnueabi-

Compiled just fine, grabbed the zImage from the boot dir.. Started it up and it will eventually just whitescreen and hang...

So what am I missing? (I've built a lot of kernels in my day, just never cross compiled one)

Are you guys remote debugging the kernel with gdb over serial? What compile/boot options are needed if this is an option?

Thx!

i removed this last 2.0.1 build in the wiki because you can get it yourself in an even more recent form via the 'advanced user' (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TOPAZ_ANDROID#compose) section in the wiki (by getting the Android 2.0.1 Eclair Base (from babijoee) together with the latest Combined Multi-Device Kernel Files (from glemsom)).

Shadowline has made some changes in that build you seek (which is still in the 4th post under the download button, like JR_de said), but it gave problems with an android map that had to be deleted or changed to make it boot a second time, so i removed it from the wiki to dont have these questions in the thread again :)

the 2.0.1 with kernel 13 (which is still in the wiki) is also very recent for topaz :)

Edit: 2.0.1 build from shadowline added again with a note :)

those 2.1 builds are VERY slow, it could definitely be that you just have to wait very very long to boot, I know i had to wait too (but i dont know how long it was) :)
the 2.0.1 build and definitely 1.6 are far more stable :)

Unfortunately the market isn't working. I'm able to browse, view and select applications, but they don't seem to download. And if I go to the download-page, I get a notification about a crash from com.android.vending (I have to open the notification to see it). :(

And sometime when the phone is comming out of standby, the screen shows only noise. It dissapears in about a second.

 I tried Android eclair and liked it a lot .. Very impressive what you guys have done so far ..

I have a strange problem though .. I can only startup android once .. When I have rebooted my device and run haret.exe again the system stops after a while with the message : failed to find system.img on sd card, can't access tty, job control turned off

Have I done something wrong ? When I delete all files and copy all files again to sd card it works for 1 time again.

if you use the android 2.0.1 build of shadowline (post 4), you have to remove the android folder to let it boot again, that's a bug that isn't in the other android builds, you can compose your own latest build (without this bug, but also without live wallpapers which shadowline added ;) ) by following the instructions at the 'advanced user' (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TOPAZ_ANDROID#compose) section in the wiki

Hi! Devs,

I am a silent member of XDA. Quite surprised by the amount of developments you guys are doing.
I will not be surprised if people from telecom companies (like HTC, Samsung, SE) will be watching these threads and offering job offers to you guys. :)
Anyways, just wanted to say a big THANKS to all you guys for your hard work and effort.
You have no idea how many people are waiting eagerly for this to work.
Thank you guys. I am a big fan of you all.

Just want to say "amen" to that, exactly my words!

The android is great :) however, the safe 'beginner' package is taking quite a lot of time for each version. So,I have been testing my own builds from 'advanced user' section of wiki. However, I found that killing data.img which I suspect contain data for your phone sometimes increases stability and speed in some builds. There is definate need for backup. To make things worse, my wifi is kind of screwed even in kennel 14. It keeps on saying obtaining ip adress  (note: my wifi is WEP) making me unable to access market. Can you post apk files of file explorer apps which can search the whole phone for my specific data (the included explorer on beginner kennels sucks) or tell me how to open data.img or wherever data is located to back up my data? Robodefence savefile is just one of the data needs to be backed up.(can't find it) Thanks. I am sure this will help some other users too.

edit: stock 6.5 rom , android version 1.6 and my device is bought from Singapore.

loving the ability to switch back and forth between windows and android. i just have a couple issues though. one is waking up the device after turning the screen off. there is a delay before it wakes up. the other is answering phone calls. i cant seem to slide the answer button. slow slide or fast slide with my finger doesnt seem to work. i try and try to answer a phone call but basically i have to call the person back because i cant seem to answer it. other then that its awesome. i play around with android also on my fuze and the fuze doesnt seem to have these issues. i know android is not bug free and kudos to the people making this even possible to run on our devices. just wondering if anybody else is having these issues and if there is fix. thanks.

I have been messing around with the adb logcat on the droid again. this time I remembered to send and receive a couple of SMS messages to see if the wat they are sent will help us in CDMA for SMS. I will post this in the main CDMA android Rhodium thread too. SMS sending and receiving is near the end of the log file... just search for SMS.

well, i downloaded the 2.0.1 build from this thread, put the files from the zip file into the root of the sd-card just as it says. Android boots up but i cant access internet via 3g but sms works fine. Maybe I need to change some settings but 3g works just fine on winmobile. I have not changed the version of the radio though. ROM: duttys holy grail r6 sve Radio: 3.43.25.19 :)

When i run Harret the process runs and then after 1-2 minutes into process i get this text and nothing more.

Failed to find system.img on sd card
//bin/sh: can’t acces tty: job control turned off
/# [183.619903] INFO: task rpcrouter:15 blocked for than 120 seconds.

If i let it sit for another 5-10 minutes i get more text, but it never actually loads android.

Details:
HTC Topaz(Pure)
Got it to run yesterday, today wont load- (I installed this morning the gen-y startup loader that runs harret on startup.)
I've uninstalled gen y software but still wont load.
Ive tried deleting all the original files and downloading the files again.

Thanks for any help.

Hmm I followed the instructions in post 3, 4, or 5... downloaded ShadowLines package and the latest build from the link, and copied the updated "system.sqsh" file into his package, loaded on my SD and booted into Android.

Seems to be pretty sweet except my touchscreen was inverted. Left was Right and Right was Left. Up and Down was ok. Just hard to navigate.

I used the Rhodium DEFAULT.TXT file which might be the problem. Loaded just fine. Google Maps was loading so I'm guessing it had 3G connection.

Thanks.

But I have a serious problem now! I am back in WinMo and in the end of my IMEI has been added 01!? How's that? And how can I remove this?
I haven't flashed the phone with coocked rom or spl. I hope somebody help me:confused:

I've managed to run, via haret.exe, the Android 2.0.1 successfully on my phone.

What I was happy about: 3G data worked fine after setting up the new APN.

What I didn't like:
- randomly, almost every minute, the following error appear: The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
- even if my batter is at 50%+, i get random error messages that the battery is below 10% and i should immediately connect it to a charger;
- phone application is so slow it's almost unusable.

Otherwise, it looks very hot!
Guys, again, thanx for your hard work and keep it up! I really like how Android looks like on the Topaz. :P

LE: also on the negative side, I don't know exactly why, but the device gets really warm/hot when running under Android...
