Anyone having trouble with Comm Manager not starting in BB R3.60? Starting it from Today just leads to a never ending wait icon, and starting it from the taskbar leads to nothing.

Question to gtrab and all core supporter here.
Does anyone know of plans of barebone. Will there soon come a 23xxx build release? desperately looking almost every few hours to this forum to see if anything has changed in this threat.
Also, maybe someone here can help me understand the WM65 native kernel thing. Is all of the builds available still some kind of "emulation"? What are the drawbacks here, slower than final build?
Also stupid question, is MS almost there to publish the one final version?
Thanks for answering maybe some of my questions to bring this knowledge to the world :o)

according to our chief cook gtrab, he is working on the bug fixes and that's why he's taking longer. there are others who had published 23004 i think but true enough, alot of things does not work correctly. we just have to wait when it comes :)
problem with kernels are that update on one service may require adjusting the other pieces too. for example, compime.dll on the later version didn't work on 21812 has been resolved in 23001 but has affected messaging, etc. it's quite difficult to track 2500+ for just the OS. on top of that, the drivers included for Xperia may not necessarily work on the new kernel, so either you have to replace the driver or replace the dependent dll or service that would work - trial and error if you're working alone. the dll's are not emulation rather more of "betas"
the original target release for WM6.5 is 4th quarter - so nothing is really final till then. but for the meantime, i love to show off my xperia running WM6.5 - even those who has experia's would wonder why the today's screens are different - you just have to live with a little quirks that comes with it. come to think of it, the official ROM has quirks as well :D

Thought your provider was so good that even a hexedited *.txt file won't give any problems and have full signal all the time.....:p

Got to say buddy, awesome work on the ROMs, was using the XTreme version for a couple days but it was totally killing the battery life so i've gone to the pure version and it's awesome, keep up the good work :)

First off, great work Gtrab, thanks for a great ROM.
Now down to business, I'm running Xpert on my x1a, I've found that if you actually lock the phone while it's off the charger, the battery doesn't deplete as much as just letting the screen go dark.
Also, I noticed the option to 'press any button' to turn the phone back on is gone (or am I just not looking in the right place?). Just a minor thing, but I'm pretty use to just hitting a button to get the screen back on, not hitting the power button. Any chance will be in the next version?
Thanks again.

I'm eager to try it out as the reviews look good !
does anyone have any alternate links?

the ringing tone problem is sometimes when someone calls me no sound is coming, when i go to change the ringing tone it gives me error message "ringing tone is corrupted or not available, try to use another one" something like that i cannot remember well.
this problem happens to me many times a day and the only solution is to soft-reset which is very annoying
in the old pure upgrade i didn't have this problem, but i don't wanna get back to it because the new update has some better changes like RAM consuming is less and it has the old panel manager which is better for me.
also i don't wanna try another rom like barebone or xpert because i want the exact offical rom but with WM6.5
thanks a lot gtrab ;)

Becouse of that i love your Roms - if there are changes you do some real upgrade with as many bugs fixed as possible-->The Roms you give are really stable. And if there arent big changes i have as user of the Roms some sort of quiet feeling that the Rom is good till now.
Btw. noticed Extendir (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530710) ? Has to be cooked in. What do you think about that?
The show must go on....

Yes, I use Pure too, I don't have ringing problem but some times phone just freezes and I have to take the battery out, or when phone is on stand by, I can't get the screen to turn on, have to press power button and slide few times, or some times I have to press reset button.
this may be because of SPB shell I installed?

unless a new rom needs to be made (as with itje and agent 47) for bug or performance purposes, this is by far the best approach...im killing my xperia by flashing every day, but i cant help it because the updates are worth it. Considering the feedback on gtrab's work, there is no need to build new unless the update is useful.

my personal view on "choosing a rom" is a personal thing. choose the rom that best suites your needs - sometimes, even to the point where you'd know how to add or fix things. following one cook can be a personal conviction. of course, it's doesn't mean you shouldn't try others. it's like hamburgers - amongst Wendy's, Burger King and Mc Donald's, you'll have a personal preference among them. Even if you choose one, you're still left with so many variety - but I'm sure, you have the most favorite.
My personal preference is gtrab's Pure Upgrade simply because it comes closest to what I need and the extent of UC's I can do. I did try barebone and xtreme - it's good but again it didn't really "fit" what I need. In addition, I've saw gtrab's progression - I saw his tenacity in his work - so as I said, it's a personal conviction I have to "trust" the author. Like you, I can't wait that gtrab's rom would use the same release as others - but, some "ingredients" do not simply work and that is what gtrab is trying hard to resolve (it's like asking Wendy's to use Mc Donald's special sauce on their burger - which doesn't really taste good i'm sure). Besides, would you like to flash your rom every other day? :D
Incidentally, after trying out all gtrab's releases, I kept going back to R3.49 Pure - as I said, that's the closest to what I need and easiest for me to customize - but it will not stop me from trying out his latest release to see if it does fit me. besides, when someone sees my phone, all they see is that it's not using stock rom and it's WM6.5 which is not even officially released - they wouldn't even what version of WM6.5 it is so as far as I'm concern, running lower builds wouldn't really bother me. however, once the official build is release, of course i would want my rom to be at par - but till then, i'm happy

Cheers for the quick reply rmpilar, makes a lot of sense, and the gtrab's 'brand' is my burger king! ... we don't have a Wendy's over here! I may have a gander at gtrab's pure upgrade.

something added in newer builds (>21925) is a new stile for tabs a lot more finger friendly and better looking but the apps have to be adapted to show them:
http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/post/2009/07/16/New-WM-build-format.aspx
done three new rapidshare mirrors, feel free to add them to first post if you want (had to re-zip the blocked 3.61 files as rapidshare doesn't allow them anymore, added the flash utility and made them sfx)
http://rapidshare.com/files/257349362/SEX1-r3.55_PURE.rar

http://rapidshare.com/files/257365894/SE_X1-R3.61-XprT.exe
meanwhile, still using 3.61 barebone... no bugs, great battery life, no lockups, everything working, perfect rom :D

"No Image Found"
After getting this, even with a good Hard SPL, quick formated microsdhc, i was able to flash to my new rom by:
1. First open ActiveSync's settings and turn off USB connection.
2. Turn off the x1 completely. Boot with Power+volume down. Once you get to "serial" plug in your USB.
3. Open Hard SPL on your PC and then copy over the new .nbh file as RUU_Signed.nbh. You should overwrite the existing file.
4. Continue with the directions and that's it.

Hi gtrab,
I appreciate your hard work, thank you for the ROMs.
I just want to let you know that I'm still having that ringtone problem with PURE upgrade, just wondering if you or any other user has found a solution to it.
the problem is:
I just upgraded my Sony Ericsson X1:
to Release Date: 14 JUN 09
Custom Version: SEX1-R3.55_PURE
Description: Pure Windows Mobile 6.5 OS/firmware ROM UPGRADE for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1
Target: for general users who want a ZERO-CUSTOMIZATIONS WM6.5 upgrade for the XPERIA X1
It works great and runs beautifully, the only problem I am experiencing with it, is my ringtone. when I switch the phone off then on, my ringtone works, when I call my phone it rings, then after sometime, it stops working, when I call my phone, its just silent, it does not vibrate or ring any sound out. it is just silent.
when I go to the phone settings, where you can select your ringtone and choose whether you want vibrate and ring etc. its says the ringtone does not exist or the file has been corrupted, no matter what sound I choose, it gives me the same message. but when I switch off and on, it works again.
I'll really appreciate any advice, help, suggestion or opinion.
Thank You Very Much.
Muna.

Quetiosn for gtrab
does the following ROM have SEX1 symbol on start up?
"[14 JUN 09] R3.55 "PURE" WM6.5Upgrade from Mostberg's FTP - FTP mirror thanks to mardiefe"
huh... good question, I don' remember :D
I think YES it has "SEX1" under "WM6.5" logo
If you don't like it, replace /windows/welcomehead.png

Hi Folks
Loving the Rom's posted on here! its made my xperia worth owning!!
I'm a little confused about the different builds that are out there
I'm currently running the Barebone Build 21815 from this forum but have noticed that on another thread ([07/16/09] NEW ROM WCX Series 23004 Pure XPERIA-NCE AVAILABLE NOW) they are using Build 23004 which is quite a jump in builds ....or am I missing something? should I stick with the version I have?
Cheers :)
another good question
2190x are TEST builds: a base for testing new features
some features make it into the main developing tree (218xx, 220xx which is SONY's developing branch, or 2300x) and some others don't
making a stable ROM over a 2300x build is very hard
But if you wanna test a 2300x I 100% positively recommend WildChild's works
.
something added in newer builds (>21925) is a new stile for tabs a lot more finger friendly and better looking but the apps have to be adapted to show them:
http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/post/2009/07/16/New-WM-build-format.aspx
done three new rapidshare mirrors, feel free to add them to first post if you want (had to re-zip the blocked 3.61 files as rapidshare doesn't allow them anymore, added the flash utility and made them sfx)
http://rapidshare.com/files/257349362/SEX1-r3.55_PURE.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/257375068/SEX1-R3.61-Bare.exe
http://rapidshare.com/files/257365894/SE_X1-R3.61-XprT.exe
meanwhile, still using 3.61 barebone... no bugs, great battery life, no lockups, everything working, perfect rom :D
Thanks again for your great contributions to the community
Gracias ;)
.
Request for Gtrab :
Could you integrate 6.5 dialer to your next ROMs? I think it is better and nicer than default X1 dialer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509447
this is the HTC phone canvas with WM 6.5 theme
HTC phone canvas has a lot of issues with WM6.5
My personal choice is the XPERIA dialer, I love to keep my ROMs as pure as possible
.
thanks for the excellent work,
im using the latest bare
have one issue, I'm on GMT timezone but still it looks like phone is on GMT+1 ? sms and everything in outlook is off by one hour (works fine in mobile 6.1)
Phone is set to GMT Casablanca (im in iceland) and we are on GMT all year around
GMT all year round ??
Hey, here I have summer all year round ;)
Back on earth: sorry I have NO idea about that issue, it s the first time I hear about something like it, but my first guess would be related to clock and time settings (auto activating summer time ??)

Hi gtrab,
I appreciate your hard work, thank you for the ROMs.
Muna.
I have spent many hours experimenting, trying to replicate your problem, unsuccessfully
I still don't know what your particular problem could be (operator dependant ??)
My best bet would be:
1- gimme some days (weeks ??), a PURE upgrade is comming soon
2- go for the BAREBONE ROM, and add everything you like from the PURE version
I will continue to investigate this
Let's keep in touch

gtrab.. you know i love your work.. been using your barebones rom's since you first introduced them... FANTASTIC..
i'm having a slight problem.. i noticed it on r3.55 but figured it was fixed in r3.61.. but alas i just haven't noticed it until now... mainly b/c i misplaced my bluetooth headset.. now that i've found it again.. noticing the issue again
i've searched the boards for things like "bt disconnect notification fix" didn't prove very helpful
can't get the notification that says "your bluetooth has been disconnected plz put your phone to your ear" or something along those lines... and it's only after i've disconnected my headset... seems to do it no matter if i disconnect via the bluetooth settings or just turn off bluetooth or just turn off the headset.... notification doesn't go away until after a reset... can be quite frustrating.. anyone else... not just me having this issue? and if they've found a fix plz post!
i'm sure i'm just not searching with the right keywords... i SWEAR i saw a thread about this issue but can't find it now! grrrr :(

hi, nice work there!
just posting to report that iGO8.3.2b, 6**** don't work in this built, but upgrading to 8.3.2.80621 sorts it out and works much better than the original 6.1 ROM with it ;)
only problem I've had (in the week its on) is the optical mouse scroll in inbox (where it tends to not scroll straight down but move slightly left or right and get me in my other account or sms list)
cheers

Thanks for providing the ROM, I am using PURE 6.5 ROM on Xperia. I don't know whether it is a bug or some cofig issue but i see after every few days , my phone doesn't make ring sound, and if go to phone setting and try to hear ring tone, it says file is in corrupt format.. so far the solution I found is reboot the device, is there any other solution for this?

Hey, I'm running the R3.61-XprT and first I have to say this is without a doubt the best rom I've ever used for any phone. I absolutely love it!
So since i downloaded it yesterday, I've been adding things and playing with it non stop. I download a program called PPGenius (basically a cool addition to the phone where when people call you, you can see where they are from) and it messed with appearance of the phone app (when you click the phone button to call someone). I love the one that was on there with R3.61-Xprt (can't remember if that's the original or not) but after uninstalling PPGenius it still won't come back. Now it just looks and feels crappy and doesn't exactly work right. Is there anyway possible to get the phone app back that is orginally on R3.61-Xprt?
As a last resort I guess I can always reflash my phone, but man it's so awesome right now I surely would hate to do that!
Thanks in advance!
P.S. The way the "phone app" looks now is close to the same, in reference to the background, but there are no buttons above the number pad (ex: all calls, video call, speaker, mute mic etc.) and the buttons are rounded compared to the streamline square look, and the list of contacts (on this screen, not the WM one) has a very ugly white background instead of blending in with the background.

why you don`t use free tool "wktask" as main task manager? this is must usefull task manager that works like things in windows 7, and cooked in almost universal roms.

hmm.. i think i have a problem
every night, i leave my phone in the charger, in the morning when i take it off the charger, none of the buttons work. The power button and any keys don't work. When i slide the keyboard, the screen turns on, but still no buttons work. Only the touch screen works. To solve it, i just pull out the battery and turn the device back on. Is there a fix to this? It gets kind of annoying.
And also, what radio rom should i flash for the gps to work? I'm still really new to flashing things on my phone, so i want to be careful. >_<

Thank you so much for this great ROM.
I had a go with a TF3D and liked it, but it had a lot of useless eye-candy but this so much better! The only thing that I would like to improve but cant find instructions anywhere is the start menu to not close when you open an app. In 6.1 when you opened a program the menu stayed open that way if you clicked the wrong one you can just close it and get straight back into the right one without having to navigate through folders. This is especially annoying when changing settings. Is it possible?
Thank you again gtrab and keep up the great work!

fix will come from Microsoft, not me (or a new phcanOverbmp.dll in Sony's OEM, specially adapted for WM6.5)

hi gtrab, not to be a jerk or be intrusive, but a few posts back i read that you are working on a new rom? is that true, and when can we expect it to be released?
don't worry this is a valid question
I don't release ROMs "every week" as other cookers do
I usually super-test a ROM before releasing, thus, if you read this thread completely, you will notice there are not much "bug-solving" posts, just a couple of bugs or issues arise, and the ROM is still usable after many weeks (or months) untill a new build - worth cooking a new version - pops up
I am currently testing 23016
If somebody else want to test with me please let me know
I will gladly share the test build with all of you who don't care too mess around with a beta, pre-release version of my next ROM

I just switched back to the stock ROM (R3AA), and my immediate feeling after a week of WM 6.5 usage is a Big Boost.
Apart from the speed and battery issue and several bugs which are inevitable for a beta product, the only benefit I can see using WM 6.5 is the (not really) finger friendliness.
I don't like the new interface at all.I'm still very much in love with the old time today screen, on which I can see at a glance almost every important thing like calendar, task, message, time, date,... (maybe with the extra help of some plugins).
Although I can still use the old today screen with WM 6.5 by disabling the new interface, I still can't understand why they remove the drop down start menu in WM 6.5, with it I can quickly switch between apps or start a new one, and not have to scroll down in a list of 20+ apps to search for my favorite apps.
Does anyone share the same opinions, or did I miss something in WM 6.5 ?

speaking for myself:
- titanium is nice (weather, notifier, favPeople, appointments)
- scrolling is much smoother and kinetic with 6.5 (not with all ROM's though)
- you need a ROM with a cleaned-up start-menu (folders)
- with some ROM's you can drag/drop the applications in the start menu :p
But I agree with you, 6.1 has some Pro's too

gtrab: Really CLASS-A ROM! I finally got the courage to do custom ROMs this weekend (had my X1 since Dec 08). After reading through a lot of Cooked ROMs info pages, yours was initially at the top of my list; but I saw a TF3D2 ROM and I went with that first in a last-moment change of mind (I'm a big fan of the TF3D2 interface).
Bad idea. I spent a lot of wasted time on a ROM that just got buggier and buggier by the hour.
Fortunately, I didn't give up, and tried your Xpert Titatanium ROM. --Amazing how speedy & smooth this is. A little bit of instability with the Panels every now and then, but in general I tend to agree with you that this is a "TF3D Killer"!:):):)
BTW: Would really love if you could answer that question from the earlier post about "which Radio to flash". I have the same Google Maps GPS problem.
I just switched back to the stock ROM (R3AA), and my immediate feeling after a week of WM 6.5 usage is a Big Boost.

Does anyone share the same opinions, or did I miss something in WM 6.5 ?
My primary reason for trying custom ROMs was for WinMo 6.5. Reading-up on reports of the X2, I have my doubts if Sony Ericsson will ever release an official 6.5 ROM for the X1 (the X2 will reportedly launch with 6.5, upgradable to 7.0).
--Why 6.5? One word: BLUETOOTH. If you have a lot of BT devices, it seems to clearly be better at managing them. BT devices are detected by WM6.5 often even without you seeking them. I have a GE BT-phone base which syncs w/my Ericssons (X1 and k770), I have a JVC car stereo w/BT handsfree. Then, I also have the MBW-150 BT Watch (which tends to present a tricky task to only take notifications, and not interfere with handsfree audio transfer). WM6.5 looks to handle that all much better than WM6.1.
But also, the WM6.5 interface is more of a 'total replacement' from the "old clunky" PocketPC interface. Geez, I have a Toshiba e355 from 2002/2003, and it has the SAME Start Menu (in a day-and-age of iPhone interfaces, and TF3D, that's just unacceptable).
So far, I also feel that gtrab's ROM is faster than R3AA; heck, faster than I've ever known my X1 to react. Now, for the last few months I've been either using the TF3D or TF3D2 add-ons to my X1, and hadn't done a 'clean install' in a long, long time. To be fair, maybe that's not a good baseline. But, for my purposes, the Xtreme Titanium ROM is just what the Dr ordered!;)

The custom ROM by gtrab is great, there's no doubt about it ! But I'd rather wait until the official final build of WM 6.5 is out to give it a try again :)

Yes. Back a couple of pages (p.160), gtrab responded to proatiku, who cannot get Google Maps to receive a satellite fix. I have this same problem. gtrab said to "flash a new radio", but didn't say which one.
Alas, the point might be moot. Having run this for a few days, I'm finding that maybe I was wrong about the battery life. Sometimes, it feels like something's running in the background (memory leak?) because the battery gets warm for no reason (when it's sleeping). I'm a big bluetooth user (don't want to be turning it on/off all the time; want seamless connections from my watch to my car stereo to my home phone). It seems that I'm only half-day at work (even if not even turning the phone on) and it's down 40%.
Really depressing, because this is a lovely ROM, and I love the interface. But, I'm going on vacation soon, and I need life & stability as much as pretty.;) --I might have to revert back to R3AA stock. Not sure yet.
i have no success with the google map gps either.
about the panel, use [Showaco CHome Editor] or uninstall [Showaco CWeather].
this is a RADIO dependat issue, not ROM dependant

In my opinion, even the stock rom that our xperia's had coming out of the box, had bugs.
About the 6.5 start menu,
I got around that 20+ apps scrolling with just the "tap and hold" of my favorite apps.(sends them to the top). No more scrolling.

Same thing here - I even installed the pre-cabbed, supposedly "fixed" DLL but alas, my keyboard is still literally USELESS: buttons randomly produce two-three of the same characters or don't even register, frequent slowdowns then suddenly everything comes out as garbage etc.
This is completely unacceptable - it makes the keyboard completely USELESS, if we cannot find a fix I'll revert to some official ROM that works.

you can use Advance Config 3.3 to set that. or if want to tweak it via registry, look for:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\OEM\SMSInboxThreadingDisabled
and set it to 0. If the key does not exist, you can create it.

the fix is for 3.55 so you'll just mess it up further. try without it and tweak your Settings | Personal | Input settings

when i tried the 3.55 pure, other than the dll, i was able to solve it by turning off "Suggest Word ..." and enabled "Enable Auto Correct" under Settings | Personal | Input. i had other issues other than keyboard so i have always been reverting back to 3.49 pure.

i wonder if it's the rom or the hardware.
are you using HTC's SIP (Blackstone Keyboard, etc.)? If you are, then it can mess with your keyboard.
one other thing else you can try is the performance tweaks. If you have Advance Config 3.3, under the group of Performances, set them to "default" settings. if it works, the try then try "advised" settings (see attached image). going beyond "advised" settings can cause things to move faster thus crashing the system.

I've been running the XPERT version for the past few days and I love it. I noticed today that when I play videos with YouTube, the video lags/skips.
It happens no matter what connection, i.e., WiFi, 3G/HSDPA or USB via laptops internet connection. Memory usage is at about 50%.
Also, when I slide the keyboard out and use the search function, the screen turns black and the search bar doesn't appear until I start typing.
Any suggestions or solutions? Thanks!
EDIT: I played with YouTube a little longer and noticed that the video lag/skipping occurs as long as the video is still downloading and after the download is complete, it plays without lagging or skipping.
In any case, is this normal? I don't believe I have noticed this with my previous X1 and I certainly don't notice it on my wife's iphone.

gtrab has a thread for beta testing new builds;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520416
The ones that make it to beta testing are worth looking at for final ROM building.
But the 23028 build seemed to have too many issues to make a ROM that can surpass the ones in the first post.
But the new COM4 line ROMs (234**) are looking to be very promising and maybe worth looking at some more (beta build). And maybe maybe, if it is found good enough to make a stabel build it can be used to update the ROMs in the first post.

I'm here :)
It's just that:
1- there has not been a new build good enough to make an update... the UI is severely changing, generating compatibility issues with the XPERIA UI
2- my spare time is minimal these days (hope to go full throttle again soon)
3- Words are WM6.5 final will be released in some weeks (october)
4- There's a BETA WM 7 out there now :D
5- I am still using this BareBone as my everyday ROM (due to 1)
Good things will come soon, not sure when, but I like the way MS is heading

You'd make me and I guess some other people really happy if you could make a new non beta ROM e.g. with the new 409+ versions.
I am using your current beta in everyday life and it runs perfect! I just can't add the owner information, so it is not usable for over about 2 weeks. And one week is already over... ;) I don't wanna miss the new WM6.5 buttons anymore, so I can't go back to your current stable version...
I am looking forward to the time when you have more time cooking roms again. Thanks in advance!!

gtrab, I've been using your barebone ROM for a couple of weeks and I love your approach to cooking ROMs.
Since itje has released the ROM based on Xperia X2 code and drivers ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4533743#post4533743 ) can we expect an update any time soon?
"Official" X2's WM 6.5 is lightning fast, FM radio works in that version - but itje's love to TouchFlo and his decision to put it in his version of ROM are hard to be tolerated ;)

I've got a few problems with using the Barebone. I appoligise in advance for asking questions that have already been asked and answered. I tried to follow the thread and reading back, but 168 pages is getting a bit much. (Stil is a good sign of how popular your ROM's are gtrab!) I'm a fan aswel. Started with the PURE, use Xpert for a while but it had two much on it I didn't use. Now on the BB and I'm finding it really nice.
Accept for the few porblems, so to that.
So I use the BB
radio 1.16, rilphone 1.14 (don't know if this might be relevant)
I installed a bunch of software, but tried to minimize that when I switched back from Xpert to BB.
I found some sollutions for my troubles myself (in blue)
**
- Sometimes the header (with 'start' in it, and the network icons) and the footer (with the two softkeys) changes spontaiously. It than always says "Masseging" and the softkeys change to the ones in messaging. The rest of the screen stays the same. Everything keeps on working fine. And is disapears when I touch the screen. I first encountered it in the Internetsharing program.
(This is not very bothering to me though.)
- Occasionally when I slide the keyboard, the screen changes badly. Or in landscape it gets stuck in portrait and fills half the screen. Or when in portrait the softkeybar/footer gets stuck halfway. When this occurs the phone stalls or uses what is shown (e.g. half homesceen, half phone. When pushing the clock in homescreen it showns the alarmmenu and pressing an number it chooses a number)
It is most of the time resolved when sliding the keyboard onesmore.
Still the phone stalls or at least reacts very slow.
- Especially in InternetExplorer and Contacts, the device sometimes stalls for a few seconds. Sometimes up to almost 10 seconds. Letting the device rest unused for a few minutes or rebooting helps, but it is very irritating.
I do not know what causes it and can not think of a cause myself since it happens quite random.
I use skTools to optimise my device set to "memory". It looks like there is less stalling and waiting now. I use to have it set to perfomance of stability.
- Keyboard isue. Often the 'n', 'a' and spacebuttons do not react. Only when pressed hard and or long makes it show. Though i do not have to push as hard to think it might be a hardware problem. But still it could be. I'm keeping an open mind. It is just very annoying when trying to send a quick sms of email.
Installing the fix from the first post does not solve the problem.
I think it might be a hardware problem. Since the keyboardfix presented by gtrab already was installed in the rom, installing it again clearly wouldn't fix it again. I tried some ather software with keyboardlayouts or something, but didn't fix it. So I started to think it realy was a hardware problem. And then I stumbled on different threads which spoke about hardware trouble. So I desided this was the problem.
- When playing the windows mediaplayer in the background the sound regulary pauzes for a second. Very annoying. Happens up to ten times during a song. It even happens when I am using no other programs.
(And finaly)
- Sometimes the buttons changes assignd functions AND at the same time the taskmanager icon in the right top corner disapears. 1) the sound buttons have changed to opening 'messaging'. Both up and down. I've installed "SEX1 Vol Ctrl 2", but can not access the volume-change-menu. Not even by tapping the icon in the header, nothing happens. 2) The hardkeys have changed from the functions I assigned (in the settings>personal>buttons menu) to being equal to the softkeys, like default atfer flashing. 3) the taskmananer icom in the top right dissapeared and when using the 'x' to close programs they do not close, but minimize and keep running in the background.
For the record I installed "WWE-Chobit Company SmartLock 1.7E" for automized locking the screen. I mention it, because it is involved in a second problem, but also in helping the urlier mentioed problem.
Sometimes the screen does not auto lock when dimming the light, like it is set to do. Even when setting it to lock on suspend, it then does not work. I use it to lock the screen by pushing the powerbutton (and waking it up with any key). When just waiting for the dimming to commence it usualy does work.
So when the taskmanager disapears and the buttons change, I can fix it by 1) puting the screen in lock manualy and 2) suspending the device by pushing the powerbutton. Than waking it and unlocking solves the problem.
But it happens for no reason and very often. And I do not want to constantly use an elaborate sequence of actions to just simply use my great X1.
I deinstalled WWE-Chobit Company SmartLock 1.7E and decided to mannualy lock my device. It's as simple as that.

Ive tried to flash it, but i just cant get it to work.
i formated my sd card to FAT32, and transfereed kovsimg.nbh to the root of my sd card.
Ive flashed my x1 with Hard_SPL. But when i start "x1_hardSPL", and it asked me if i want to upgrade, i press yes, and i have the cellphone synced to the pc. But as soon, as the phone goes into "bootloader" mode, the usb disconnects, and the "x1_hardSPL", says there is connection problems. My x1 then just shows a white screen saying "loading", and it just stays there, for hours. I then reset the phone and try with another usb plug, but still the same. Can anyone help me?

curiously enough, 3 months later I am stull using the BareBone, converted to XPERT of course :D
newer builds (WM6.5.1) broke the display size standard (due to the bigger size of the lower bar with the bigger buttons), making the classical XPERIA screens non-compatible
I'm still happy with it and I am glad to learn many others are too

What's the error code ?? search the wiki for error codes and the answer ill be there, mayb you have not flashed a Hard-SPL first (which enables your phone to receive "unnofficial" ROM udpates)
.

see the pics: what you see is what you get
the XPERT is a bit more complicated, better go for a PURE ROM upgrade or the BAREBONE ROM which is very small, lite and fast, and you can lateradd whatever you want

you are not missing any memory:
Real available memory is modified from ROM to ROM, it depends on the SIZE of the ROM, how many files are loaded as PERMANENT MODULES in memory, and how much PAGE POOL (sort of a system cache) the cooker assigns

SPB will never match the icons because those icons ask ethermind's tweaked battery.dll (which - indeed - is the trick that enables 1% battery status in the taskbar). Ethermind's battery driver has a slight loss of accuracy in the upper range.
This is not a native app, but a tweaked app made by xda-developers users (in this case, ethermind's edited DLL and my work on the creation of the 100 battery icons one by one, and then cookin' them into the resOver DLL phcanOverbmp.DLL, then inserting proper registry modifications to the setting)
Is this or nothing: no cooked battery icon will never match 100% with SPB because they are based on tweaked battery DLL. Otherwise you would have to see the old plain vanilla Microsoft battery with its 4 bars there...

Hi all,
Just installed the barebone rom and it works excellent!
Before I had the xpert rom installed, but that didn't quite work for me, many system crashes.
One question, how do I get the oem pdf reader back on my phone, is there a download for that?
Many thanks..

Hello to all
I have to admit that I am not exactly very good at understanding what has been posted. Id like to install the 6.5 version of windows on my xperia but im hoping that someone can dumb it down for me
i went to the ftp site, but there are like 11 different files! im assuming some of these are different types of skins? i just want to start as simple as possible and just get the upgraded look of 6.5
can someone please give me a bit more of a step by step as to how to do this
thanks all

Hi!!! I've tried all three version of this ROM. All three are great. Fast and clean. My question is: Is there any way to make it Polish ? Or maybe I'm able to do it myself? Maybe it is not necessary to 'cook' the ROM from the begining. I don't want to change anything but the language. If there is any chance, I'm countig on step by step guide.

I did everything by the tutorial and composed my own ROM. There was missing LANG folders in Polish ROM for some SYS components so I've left it English. The ROM was created succefully but after flashing I've got only Sony Ericsson boot logo. Nothing happens then. I think it's about this "Beware !! ".VM" and "WinCENLS_WWE" folders are device & language specific". I'm not sure if I should've been replace it too or leave yours gtrab. I'm very excited because it's very close to succesful polish WM6.5 clean and fast.

Hi,
sorry this may not be the best place for this. Just got an X1 and have put this SEX1 R3 (release 3) on it. Seems to be working great! I added a lock code at the start of the windows install and it comes on when the phone locks which is also good. Is there a way to lengthen the time it takes for the lock to come on or to set it so i can manually lock it? I cant find this in the settings?
Thanks

Hey all, I've been running the Barebone ROM for about a month now, and I have to say it's pretty spectacular. Now I have a question: just a few minutes ago my X1 popped up with a message that I've never seen before, asking me to connect it to a Windows-based PC, as there may be an update available.
My concern is: will doing so update WM6.5 on the device, or will it cause any problems? I'm not 100% I can get back to the update screen if I decline it, so if it'd be beneficial I'd like to do it. I don't expect a concrete answer, but as I have a few hours before I can go home (at work atm) to test it out, I'd like to know if anyone else has seen this.

Thank you very much for your cooked ROM, i was looking for many features which were causing inconvenience for me in WM6.1 and now it is there.
Now of many features is that when pairing with my Laptop, i can see new service for DUN (Dial-Up Networking) which it was not there in 6.1 and i had to create port blah blah to do this.
I had some issues and this is not a general problem it is actually targeted to those who intend to use an application called Multilingual Support from MOBiDIV, me personally i am using the Arabic version but of course there are so many languages there to localize the interface into your language, i don't care about making the interface arabic thou i just want my mobile to read arabic messages, anyhow after re-installing the application by default it changes your mobile to support the local language and that's where your problem begins trying to put again to english because with local language you will not be able to access the start menu and therefore the setting and others to change the interface.
Just go to Panels and you should find the second panel there with the multi color one, you have an option to add a quick lunch application, click options --> Launcher --> and go to Programs --> MOBiDIV --> Multilingual Support --> Click Add
Now it should show on the desktop, just click and change the interface to english again and soft-reset.
Hope this could be in help for anyone out there.
Thanks again for WM6.5... when i get the chance i will try to donate :-)

Well....in the ROM forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=471) the first posts are stuck in the top of the forum, they begin with the name "Sticky:".
The sticky threads contain important informartion regarding the forum section, so the stickies in the ROM section contain information on how to flash and how to cook ROMs and more.
So if you want to flash your phone with custom ROMs and you have never done that before, it is best to read the stickies first.

By the keyboard bug, you mean the repetetive characters and/or non-functining keys unless you press hard? That's not a ROM issue. It is a hardware issue. There's a thread detailing how to clean the keyboard contacts and fix this.

Hi,
Been interested in installing a new rom with wm 6.5 and i've been considering:
1) gtrab's SEX1 R5 BareBone
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=594278
2) gratb's SEX1 R3 xTreme
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509891
3) Valkyrie_v7.3 FireStorm
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512050
[I'll be posting this in two threads since diferent people hang out in different threads i assume... gtrab and agent_47...]
I already tried gtrab's SEX1 R5 BareBone, and had a known issue with battery.
I've got some general questions about all roms.
# Is it possibe to update vm6.5 from beta to the stable version ?
# Which is the latest versions of all roms ? because gtrab's has over 100 posts and agent_47's has over 1000 posts so its quite a hard job to go through all the posts to get the latest and most stable version.
# Are there any plans for a next more stable rom MAYBE soon ? Because i try to avoid solving issues with seperate cab files IF possible of course.
I'll explain my thoughts:
- I prefer xpert version over barbone because it has more stuff which i need like google maps etc... but i'm not sure if there's a "second" build like there's for the barbone.
- On the other hand, agent_47's Valkyrie seems very promising but i saw a lot of "small" issues which could be solved by installing extra cab files...
So i'm not sure which one to go for, anyone can give me some advice please ?
Last thing, i want to say a big thanks to both of them, they've done a great job and i do really appreciate it. I assume everyone hear agrees because i've read a couple of posts and i saw loads of thanks from different people here.
Thumbs up :)
P.S sorry for posting same question in two threads, but the reason is to get different ideas from different people...

Hi, regarding your inquire, this ROM was cooked more than a year ago. It was pretty slick and stable back then, and I am amazed to see so many users still using it after so many months.
Nevertheless, I must say I don't have the xperia x1 anymore (over a year !!) And I am fully dedicated to android now, so I really can't bring active support for it.
Thanks for your kind words.
