Windwos Mobile 6.1 For Ipaq rx1950 KITCHEN (For Devolopers and Advanced Users Only)

Windows XP only.

1. Connect you Device To PC "USB CONNECTION" with Microsoft ActivSync Installed...

2. Follow the instruction .. (May appear some device notification to
allow recognize of the device correctly and changes to flash mode etc " You Must Always Click Accept" or you will not be able to flash your device)

3. Run "hpRUU" tools to and follow the instruction.
If the program can not flash for some reason, try to put your device in "Flash Mode" Manually by pressing "Contact + Email + Reset together" and try again.

4. When the process finish ..The device will restart automatically.

5. When the boot loader is loading Make HARD RESET ( By Holding " CALENDAR + WIRELESS + Reset " For 3 Second !

6. Wait to re boot... "it may take about 2 or 3 Minute for the First time" ....

7. Calibrate the screen as Usually ..

8. Now go to " Start / Programs / Address Book " Run that Allow the two files needed ( By Accepting the notification Bellow)

9. In the same program go to "Menu /Option" And In the first tap "General" Mark this options :

Set as default contact manager
Assign on hardware button

10. Then Press OK ... Exit the program

11. Soft Reset...

12. Accept the notification about the WIFI program ! Then will appear in the Today menu the WIFI Icon where you can Power On /Off the wireless ....(As the default "Hp Wireless manager" dose not work properly).

Done!

Optional you can install the office cap as usually ! included ...

Great job - it's wonderful -so far just one minor problem. Task manager is still in Russian in "programs". UC and .NETCF 3.5 would make it even better.....

The task manager can be changed from File Explorer / root / Windwos/Start Menu/programs/ then Select that Rename to Task Manager .. Its Done !

NETCF 3.5 i cant cuz theres no more space to add any thing on the rom as it 32 MB !

I've used this rom for a couple of weeks now and so far only one problem, the wireless connection fails to reconnect after the power is turned off. I have figured out a way to circumvent this problem. Uninstall the WifiIO and use the wireless button as you would in WM5, but before it disconnects pick the view wireless networks link and press Menu -> Turn Wireless On. What a PIA, but the faster operating system definately makes up for it. Thanks a bunch Victory!

I hope I am not committing some sort of faux pas by asking this, but what would you charge for a WM6.1 rom for an Ipaq h5550? I could supply a machine for testing.

I am dead serious about this and am willing to pay. Please advise.

I'm not sure what you mean by settings, but the wm5 normal button for wifi is rendered useless under wm6.1...you have to use wifiIO for some reason. I have sktools free version installed and could have deleted reg setting don't know though. Reinstall wifiIO and still disconnects after power. I've looked in windows dir. for wifion.exe but only find wifioff. Prefer wm5 button to wifiIO, wish there was a way to get it working again. Thanks.

followed on screen instructions
watched progress on pda
I now have an error wrong image on pda when i try to reset.

tried relauncing exe but i have no comms to pda from pc.

Your pda can't boot ? you can reflash it with the SD Card method if you have make a backup.

hello,

tis pot sounds awesome. i downlaoded ur file. started to patch. that flasher recognize my ipaq. i then continue but my screen freezes at HP INVENT white screen u know. nothing happens. i can reset and turn back to my ipaq wm5 but why i cant do a flash? thanx.

i think a video will be awesome.can u do it pls? thanx.

Maybe if you Hard Reset that first, will work ! Do not forget to backup your data !

If not you can try to put the pocekt in FLASH MODE ..i do not remember the correct combination :
1:
HOLD TOGETHER Calender + Wireless + RESET For 5 SEC more or less

HOLD TOGETHER COntacts + E-Mail + RESET For 5 SEC more or less

One for Hard Reset and the other for FLASH MODE .....

Also if dose not work, you can upgrade the (Boot Loader) first then try ...

This rom works fine, but my sd card is not being recognized :(

I would like to know if anyone has come into the same problem an found a solution.

Have a Sandisk 4gb SDHC card. If you install drivers in rx1950 wm5 version it will work flawlessly.

I thought wm6.1 would recognize it without patched drivers but no luck, and all drivers installation process end with "unsuccesful" message.

please, is there a solution?

I ran the hpRUU, but after it restarted, now it won't turn on and I can't do a soft reboot or hard reboot. I've tried everything I can think of and I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

mabe you already tried this...removing the battery. wait some seconds, put it back again.

it has worked for me when my ipaq rx1950 doesnt starts. Dont know why it happens but it has made the trick when it doesnt turns on.

if that works, remember to hard reset the device or it will not pass from boot screen.

I tried taking the battery out and leaving it for a few seconds, but that didn't help either. It's almost like all of the buttons are not responding anymore.

Make sure you've the battery charged ...
then remove the battery for about 2 to 5 minutes ....Then plug the battery again ... and the pocket must turn on automatically ! just wait about 4 to 10 sec....
Hope this help .. i and the same problem ..and solved with this method ....

Try to download the file again .. from another host ... and then try ... Thats maybe solve the problem ..Other thing you must be in Windows xp and disabled the Anti-Virus ..ect ....Thats may solve your problem....

I've been looking for something like this (or Linux for rx195x) for a long time; so I was really excited to see this!

But does anyone know if the flash utility that's included gives you the option to back up your default WM5 image, and whether it does this relieably?

Also is this a default 'clea' WM 6.1 install, or are the applications we see in the video (Opera etc.) cooked into the image?

The only thing i am having trouble with is the office. I install it successfully but there are no icons, am I missing something?

First of all don't panic your 1950 can be rescued as long as you follow these instructions carefully.

1. Disconnect Ipaq from computer then remove the battery, AC supply and SD card and wait for about 10 minutes for the ipaq to fully discharge.

2. Check your C: drive and completey remove the folder named Ipaq.

3. Download a new copy of WM5.0 from the HP website here.

4. Download HP bootloader from here http://www.freetrafficsite.com/BootLoader.zip

5. Open and run the HP ROM setup WITHOUT you Ipaq connected. Then when it comes up with connection error just close it.

6. Connect your Ipaq to the PC via the data cable and use the AC adaptor as a power source. DO NOT put the SD card or battery back in. DO NOT press any buttons or try to reset.

7. Open the bootloader and a window will pop up now double click my computer, double click C:, double click IPAQ, double click SP31892 then click on CEOS.nbf (should be about 63Mb in size) then click on OPEN and let the computer do the rest.

your ipaq should now go into a cold boot. Once everything is running smoothly then you can put your battery and SD card back in.

If you need to repeat this process at a later date you will need to download a fresh copy of WM5.0, I don't know why but for some reason this method only works with a clean WM5.0

if your Ipaq semi bricked durin a WM6.1 update when the Ipaq starts it will come up with that ROM and not WM5.0 and if anyone wants to know it is possible to flash back to WM5.0

Hope this helps someone as it took me a while to figure out after countless button pressing and resetting.

Hey Dixiesmu, just to be clear, the URL you have there to the HP site doesn't actually have anything described as 'a new copy of WM5.0'; the closest thing there this ROM update (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=1132544&prodNameId=1132545&swEnvOID=2067&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=PSG_I23197-108135) linked through the page, which from the description sounds like it could be a full image -- though that's not clear.

Are you saying the 1.01 update (linked above) will also restore a WM6.1 install to WM5.0? Won't the Flasher in the sp31892.exe 1.02 update do the same thing as BootLoader.exe? Just want to be sure; thanks your your help!

Yes the rom uddate is actually a full image of WM5.0 including mobile office it's not actually new, what I meant to say was clean.

yes the flasher in sp31892.exe will restore it back to WM5.0 but when I did this it semi bricked again so I just used the described method again to get the Ipaq up and running.

Hey Guys,

Just thought I'd pitch in my 2 pence worth, I got a used rx1950 off ebay yesterday pretty cheap. Tried for hours to get a decent web browser for WM5 to work, none were any good and opera mini wouldn't work. I thought, my only choice is to try an upgrade to WM6.1.

Read this thread with high hopes, but I've got to admit I was a bit reluctant to flash it, having only flashed an original rom on an old phone once before. Anyway I followed the instructions, not to sure about what I was doing and lo and behold it didn't work...thought I'd bricked it, fortunately it rebooted.... Im not trying that again I thought.

But then I read somewhere that you shouldn't flash a WM5 Rom under Vista, it won't work. So I thought I would brave another attempt and try it on my XP laptop.
I connected it again though activesync and not windows mobile center , clicked the hpRUU.exe waited for it to do it's business, reboot, then followed the last few steps and guess what...it worked great.

Everything seems to be good, I haven't tried installing much else other than Esmertec Jbed and opera mini 5 beta, got them both working perfectly, browsing on wifi.

I also had to download both opera mini 5 jar and jad files to the memory card.
Anyway hope this helps someone, it's definitely worth the upgrade, good job - all involved.

I've managed to really stuff up my rx1950 after flashing it with the Factory 6.1 ROM upgrade. All it does now after a reset is to run through the progress bar on the +hp initial screen and then sit there and sulk. The ROM version on the screen is 1.01.04. I've tried everthing I could Google for but to no avail. I cannot get it into bootloader mode, each time I press calendar, email and reset till it comes to life I just get the +hp screen again and no sign of a white screen. I've tried to flash it from a PC but that can't connect. I've tried installing the CEOS.nbf file on the root of a blank SD card and resetting, hard resetting and bootloader resetting.. I only get the +hp screen. I read about pressing the power and reset buttons, releasing reset and it should go into the ROM loader mode from the SD card but that does not work. I've tried bootloader.exe and Bootloader_GUI.exe with no avail. Is there any other options or no hope for me?

No puedo instalarlo pues despues de ejecutar el flasher HPRUU y despues de algunos pasos me indica: en ingles algo como: TU VERSION ACTUAL: rx1950 IDIOMA: español
ABAJO >> LA actualizacion: rx1950 idioma: ingles. Y finalmente pone un mensaje de error que dice que la actualizacion es incompatible... ahora recuerdo por que no actualice ni a la version oficial de hp!!... Alguna idea?? y otra por si quiero retroceder???

Tengo el fichero "1950WM6eng.nb0" es una imagen para ipaq rx1950 de windows mobile 6.1, si no te gusta esta versión puedes pasarla a WM5 con la rom oficial de hp ipaq rx1950 en ingles.
No te dará el problema de incompatibilidad de idioma porque se instala con el mtty a una tarjeta SD, que colocas en el Ipaq, pones en modo bootloader y después de unos minutos estará listo.

Si es de tu interes, puedes escribir a mi correo fmunozarrobo@hotmail.com, ahí te daré el tutorial para que saques una imgen de la rom en español de tu ipaq y obtengas un fichero similar al mío, e intercambiamos las imágenes, y todo felices y contentos:)

SI tu Ipaq está en German, French, Español, o cualquier otro idioma y desean pasarla a Windows Mibile 6.1 en Inglés, descargen el archivo rom.rar desde este link //dc152.4shared.com/download/218118929/72e5f53c/rom.rar
1. descompriman el archivo en el directorio C:
2. descargue la aplicación ntrw.exe
3. ejecute MSDOS
4. ponga una tarjeta SD de 2Gb en el lector de la PC
5. escriba: ntrw write rom.nb0 X: (X = es la letra de su lector de tarjetas)
6. retire la tarjeta del lector, ¡No formatear la tarjeta!
7. colocar la tarjeta en el IPAQ
8. iniciar su IPAQ en modo bootloader RESET+CONTACS+MAIL
9. presionar power
10. esperar que se completen las dos barras de estado
11. se reinicia el IPAQ y aparece welcome wm6.1

hello, just tried to upgrade, but it won't work because i currently have an german wm5 rom installed on my ipaq. I can only upgrade from an english wm5 rom.
But I`m also not able to install an english wm5 rom on my ipaq
has someone a solution for installing another rom language??
I read something aboput mtty.exe but the instructions were not realy helpfull.

You must read the read me, its explain this part, as you must use the Wifi plugin and confirm that at the first start-up, then you'll have that on the home screen at the right inferior corner.... Just tap that to start then tap to stop..........

I do not know why that dose not work, maybe cuz Microsoft do not support that any-more...

So I recommend you to use IM+ or similar program, that allow you to connect to many Instant Messege including Facebook Twitter etc....

Este es un error que aparece sin causa aparente
la manera de superarlo es creando con el mtty una imagen de tu rom en una tarjeta SD, luego la ejecutas, al aprecer eso desbloquea el ipaq, luego con el ntrw escribes nuevamente la rom.nb0 en la SD y te funcionará correctamente.

Hola, antes que nada es bueno saber que se puede actualizar esta ipaq, pero tenia algunas dudas:
* cuales son los problemas especificos de esta ROM, me refiero a eso de la conexion de WIFI

hello again , I don't have problems with this ROM, the only thing is the WLM, it doesn't work , I try installing another WLM but it not works too.

But unfortunately I get an error message after starting the ipaq in bootloader mode with the prepared SD card inserted.
The following is appearing on my screen then:

Wrong Image !!!

the extracted image file "rom.nb0" has a size of: 178.126.848 Bytes on my hd.

Do you have an idea why its not working for me.

** sorry i misread this, i never got flashing from sd card to work correctly.
But i did manage to unbrick phone by using devel mode and running hpruu fresh from website.

Hi I was curious if anyone else has experienced trouble getting the following programs to connect to the web:

1. Microsoft Facebook App
2. Google Youtube App
3. Microsoft Marketplace App

I can download and install the programs directly from my ipaq - and I have VTap working... but these other programs give a "Failed to connect" error and inform me they cannot find an active network connection. Could someone suggest ways to fix this? Thank you so much in advance.

I have this problem too, i think it is related to wifi problems.

this is the same problem as this, applications other than the broswer and messaging can't connect to the wifi / internet it seems

For some reason I can't install a new rom.

I get a message :

This version of rom update is not compatible with your handheld computer. Flashing the wrong .....

My original rom version is chinese wm5

Yeah there is a problem in wifi with some program, maybe its the driver !

But it work with many other application, such Guitar Hero IV Mobile (Connection required)...... so maybe the compatibility of some app...

For all who do not have your IPAQ in English
IF your Ipaq is in germ, French, Spanish or another language and want to pass it to Windows 6.1 in English Mibile, download the file from this link rom.rar
1. Unzip the file to the C:
2. download the application ntrw.exe
3. run MSDOS
4. put a 2Gb SD card reader in the PC
5. type: ntrw write rom.nb0 X: (X = the letter of your card reader)
6. remove the card reader, not format the card!
7. place the card in the IPAQ
8. start your iPAQ in bootloader mode CONTACS RESET + + MAIL
9. Pressing power
10. expected to be completed two status bars
11. iPAQ restarts and appears welcome wm6.1

after i insert sd card in hp and after step 8. i get message "wrong image"

My rx1950 is bricked from this. I need help please. Screenshot below.

I followed OP's instructions exactly. The Rom loaded to about 75%, then I got error 402 no connection. Stuck on white "invent" screen. Wouldn't reset with any button combo. Removed battery for 24 hours, tried resets again, still on white invent screen 1.04 to 1.06 to .... Tried to reflash the HP site's WM5.0 rom, computer wouldn't recognize device, so I activesynced another ppc, it was then able to recognize the bricked device, load the bootloader from the zipped package, but the original rom only loads to half-way (then 402 error). Same with the 6.1 rom. Tried three times with each, including trying disabling activesync in task manager before starting the update process. Using an XP machine SP 3, which has loaded other update roms fine before. Dock is plugged in to AC. Running english.

Sadly, I read this entire thread before trying, and felt assured brick would not be an issue by the posts citing the battery removal trick, hard reset, SD reflash, and especially post 23. It would be nice to try the process in Post 23 but the bootloader.exe file link is dead. If it makes any difference I have another rx1950 with a working factory original rom 1.1.04 (but no idea how to flash it to an SD card, anyway since the bricked device won't go into flash mode I am not sure how this would help anyway).

Can't see in any post here how to wipe the rom and start over either.

Plug the PPC device to the computer ... (Make sure have it recognized by Windows)
Run The "sp31892.exe" Wait the extraction process to finish ....
Run "hpRUU.exe" --> Choose "Boot Loader" --> Update ...
Wait the progress --> When finish the device will automatically reboot.
Done, you have the "Boot-loader" again.
!

but mine is also Chinese version, so can't flash by the normal method...
and i tried to use FLASH mode but with no success (Wrong Image)

If i turn back to wm5 the SDHC support-patch can be applied every time :), but if i use this moddified update wm6.1 on my rx1960 the certs.cab and sdhc.cab installation cant be applied and go alwas as "unsuccessful installation"...
because the main files are on the ROM and it cant be overwrited!! can anyone give me a solution please!!... i dont chose yet between modern software support (wm6.1) or sdhc support (wm5) :( any idea?

EY! VICTORY please!!! can you cook and try another rom including SDHC support? or study the wm5 overwritting....

wm5 = can be patched SDHC support every time if i reinsstall the wm5 rom...
wm6.1 = can not be patched!! HELP! certs.cab & sdhc.cab cant be installed...
*.dll n windows folder can be overwrited...

Hi all, hope there's still someone around who knows about this old device...

I'd like to attempt the WM 6.1 upgrade process described on this thread, but first I want to backup the original firmware on the device just in case I want to later on take it back to the stock firmware. Is that possible?? If so, can you point me to some instructions/program to do so?

I flashed my RX1950 with this rom yesterday. And it is great!
So thank you very much!

Only problem is that Windows Media Player isn't installed yet.
Correct my if Im wrong, but I thought it is not possible to install WMP as a .cab .
How can we solve this? I really need that Windows Media Player..

Also, when I try to use MSN, it fails and says there is no connection while my Wifi was connected...

HPRUU won't work @ windows 7. You have to use Windows XP, I had the same problem aswell.

Este es un error que aparece sin causa aparente
la manera de superarlo es creando con el mtty una imagen de tu rom en una tarjeta SD, luego la ejecutas, al aprecer eso desbloquea el ipaq, luego con el ntrw escribes nuevamente la rom.nb0 en la SD y te funcionará correctamente.

Translation:
This is an error that appear without cause.
The solution is making backup image from you original rom saving it on the SD card, then write it to the ipaq, apparently this will unlock the ipaq, then with the "ntrw" write once again the "rom.nb0" in the SD card and it should work correctly.
