That would be interesting - I'd be willing to try it. How do the specs on the unit compare to the 610/910? I just picked up one of these...
iPAQ's I've been playing with 6515, 615c, 910, 210, Data Messenger

A WM 6.5 Rom for my data messenger would be great. The Wm 6.1 user interface sucks!
Does anybody have a good description for building my own WM 6.5 Rom?

Hey, I got one too (as do my colleagues, working at an IT firm) on 6.1 pro...
Not the best phone I have, so a 6.5 upgrade would be sweet!

I've tagged a couple other threads dealing with the ipaq data messenger (sly) too...really interested to see if anyone has toyed around with cooking a 6.5 rom with the latest builds for this device. like i said on one of the other forums..the trick is finding more than us who actually bought one of these...
just trying to keep this thread alive in hopes of a chef out there with this device

I have tried, but I can't seem to find the Bootloader mode. Any Ideas?
The Data Messenger used hex, not DIO, so it won't work the same.

If you turn the device fully off (take out battery ..)and then press&hold key num 8 and power at the same time it will show usb composite in the screen. If you do not do anything after a few seconds it will boot normal. This must be how to enter the Boot Mode. Any Ideas?

Hi, I really don't give up, is there any chefs here that are even thinking about cooking a rom, yeah, I know that I'm writing like I'm requires this but that's not a fact, I'm actualy starting to get desperate :D
If there are any chefs that are cooking are want or may cook I and the 3 other Ipaq Data Messenger owners in the world would really been grateful.
And one thing I actualy wondering about, is Ipaq Data Messenger a "shitty" phone since no one bought it, cause I can't really find anything wrong about the device it's self.
Greetings

The phone is great indeed, but I have a few minor complaints:
- Side that the keyboard slides out: It should slide the other way.
- Location of stylus: Although I don't use it often, it's position is annoying.
- Resolution: I'm fine with 320x240, but something bigger would be nice.
- Keyboard: My v button is no longer as responsive as it used to be and it's only 1 week old :(
Next to that awesome phone.

i've contacted hp support and they don't know a thing about wm 6.5 for Data Messenger :/ Not even if it is going to be released. I've been searching google for the rom for the last week with no success.
It's a shame, cause I really liked my ipaq dm:/

Somebody do me a favor? On a production data messenger, pull the battery, replace, hold in the camera button and then the red power button, tell me if you get anything different on boot. Also, at least on pre-prods, both phone buttons held down gives a clean boot - I've only got pre-prods, anyone with production model want to give that a try?
Also, I have connections to a few developers where I might be able to get the bits needed to roll a 6.5, but while I'm a software guy, I'm not a Windows mobile guy. I can probably get all the tools to build easily enough as well, anyone experienced with WM interested in doing some hand-holding walking me through building a 6.5 image if I can get the bits needed?

I have followed these instructions with an out-of-the-box Data Messenger.
The key combination posted brings up a HP screen with 1.00.05.00-751-WWE written at the bottom.
This moves onwards to the Windows Mobile 6.1 'splash screen' but does NOT seem to execute a hard reset.

I mis-spoke earlier - this is of couse executing a 'hard-reset' - but rather is not executing a 'factory re-set'.
i.e. user settings on the device are not wiped.
Kind regards

There are a number of ways to get a 'clean boot' on the HP Data Messenger.
1. - while using the device, goto 'settings-system-factory restore' - which willcause a 'clean boot'
2. holding down the 'green', 'camera' and 'power/red buttons (after removing/re-inserting the battery brings up the same 'clean boot' screen.
I hope this may be of some use.... I would be very interested in getting my hands on a cooked 6.5 ROM, and if there is any way in which I can help please feel free to ask.
Kind regards

i all,
but is it possible that anyone doesn't work on it to cook a wm 6.5 ROM?
there are many developers and many HP developers.......
are HP developers able to cook a wm 6.5 ROM? or not? do it for us!!!
we know that there are some aggrement with Microsoft but we need a not official ROM to remain HP customers.
best regards,
