Ive just recently bought a samsung propel pro, and have been getting an error when trying to install cab files on it. After research Ive figured out that i apparently need to app unlock it. Does anyone know how one would go about doing this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried this:
http://www.mobilejaw.com/articles/2008/09/new-simplier-approach-to-disable-read-only-network-settings-on-blackjack-ii/
It's for the BJII, but it may work. If you could try it and report back any success or failure, that'd be great.
Actually, this is probably where you want to go:
http://www.mobilejaw.com/articles/2008/06/new-network-settings-lock-on-windows-mobile-61-devices/
And one more... if those don't work, try this:

thanks for replying. Ok so i tried the 1st method you suggested and it wouldnt let me install the cab. and i also tried the sda app unlocker and it came up with a message that said the phone is not unlockable. I also tried the second method, and sadly no success there either. I didnt try the third one because i dont feel comfortable editing the registry in my phone. so sorry i couldnt give any feedback on that. Hopefully someone can find a way to do this.

Hi all, new person with the same problem here. I installed the "remove security" cab successfully but am still not able to make registry edits with any of the tools I have (Total Commander, CERegEditor, PHM, etc). I can also confirm that SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe says the phone is unlockable. The "Unlock Registry" tool in CERegEditor doesn't work either. Is it a matter of not having a registry editor that is signed by Samsung? I'm a pretty technical guy so please feel free to make any suggestions you can think of. Thanks in advance!

It may be a matter of needing a registry editor that's signed, period. Were any of the editors you've tried signed? You may want to give something like this a shot:
http://www.handango.com/catalog/ProductDetails.jsp?storeId=2218&deviceId=1179&platformId=110&productId=217945§ionId=0
They do have a free trial version, so you could maybe see if it would work without spending money. I have a feeling it probably wouldn't, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Thanks for the suggestion but no dice. The trial version is fully functional but I was still denied access to change the registry. I don't know how to tell if the registry editors I have are signed but I have tried about five or six of them now. Please let me know if you have any other ideas.

Well, not really. The author of CERegistryEditor may have some ideas if you email him, but I'm not sure that it's doable. From what I've been led to believe, WM 6.1 is a whole lot harder to unlock. It's a shame, because the Propel Pro has a really interesting/funky resolution, and has the potential to be a great WM phone.

Hi all,
Thanks jonnycat26 for your time! I found a trick yesterday which will get me by. As you might guess, I was trying to unlock the registry to get tethering throup a WAP instead of the ISP and never could edit the HKLM keys, but I was able to unlock the GPRS settings by going to Windows/UAMgr.exe thanks to this article:
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=samsung&thread.id=69696&page=2
I was then able to change the settings through the regular menu to match this article:
http://stevenharman.net/blog/archive/2008/10/03/windows-mobile-internet-connection-sharing-hack.aspx
I have to do a little dance where I open UAMgr.exe and unlock the keys again and then start ICS, but it does work (I am posting through ICS right now). By chance do you know why this would be and if there is a smarter way to do this? Thanks again!

Has anyone seen any progress on this phone? It has potential, but I'm amazingly annoyed at it's inability to install almost any application between the ATT lock/permission problem and the odd screen resolution that's breaking apps like cleanRAM.

It is almost impossible to find software that is not rejected by the application lock: MemMaid, Pocket Mechanic, CorePlayer, Google Mobile all failed.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance!

The registry editor does install; but, when I run it, the i627 does not allow me to save any changed values.

After I tried changing values I got the error message as well. I've installed chome and am able to change a few settings on the home screen but most of the changes give me the access denied error when trying to change the registry....I'm still hoping that someone will find a way to app unlock this device....I have a feeling that the Jack will be more popular to techies and therefore will be looked at by crackers and developers...Guessing some of these will also work on the Propel Pro......I also noticed that the Wifi radio in this phone is not nearly as powerful as my old Axim....I can not get a fix where my old device used to be able to. Oh well. Maybe its time to look at selling off this locked down toy and look at a different one. HTC here I come......

OK....so, after hours of googling and as much as I hate to admit it, 'Binging'..I think I have found an answer....First check out this link....and follow the directions therein....after running the microsoft security powertoy, it said my phone was unlocked...no security!!!!
http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=7565
I am now going to try to modify the registry using these settings....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1001 = 2 -> change to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1005 = 16 -> change to 40
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1017 = 128 -> change to 144
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Security\Policies\Policies -> create new key "0000101a": Dword = 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Security\Policies\Policies-> create new key "0000101b": Dword = 1
I will report back to confirm that it has worked.......

Have not tried it yet...but I have my registry completely unlocked....I have changed the security for third party apps like this one and have had no trouble. I'll try it tomorrow if I have time....I'll let you know...One more thing, after I ran the Microsoft Powertoy app, I did a soft reset to save changes. I don't know if it needed to be done but I did it anyway......

So following the advice in this thread (and some other things) I've managed to get it to the point where it will let me change registry settings, and the Microsoft Security Powertoy reports it as being unlocked, but everytime I try to install a cab file on it (with the exception of the PHM registry editor) it tells me installation was unsuccessful (occasionally that the file was not intended for this device, despite it being a WM6 file)

I can't even get to that point with the powertoys. The power toy gives me an error when i try and use it. Same thing, i don't have privileges.
how did you get to change registry keys?
I really want my samsung propel pro to be unlocked. this is frustrating. why would they do this?

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7K4XTY68 running this, which is the clearsecurity.cab mentioned above, allowed me to use the powertoy to fully unlock it.
I did find out the version of TCPMP that I was using was for WM6, and apparently does not work on WM6.1. It's possible that's the issue with the other applications as well. Does anyone know if that's a common problem?

well, it worked for me, thanks a ton. After I installed the clearsecurity.cab you posted, and ran the Powertoy with no security provisioned, i can install anything i want so far. i will update if anything unexpected happens. thanks again. im going to try and unlock the GPS chip for other apps.

now, weather or not its working i don't know, but i can't seem to get Garmin to see my GPS. Google maps works fine. lame sauce.

I noticed that you guys have been trying to unlock the Propel Pro. Unfortunately, the application lock on the s740 is different steps to remove than the Propel Pro.
On the plus side, I have posted a new method that will remove the application lock on ANY Windows Mobile Standard device. So if you're still having this problem, check out this post for all the details:

Any questions or problems, just let me know!

Hi folks, I have been researching this new Propel Pro i just bought. I got it new for 50 Bucks so i am determined to make it work the way i want!
I have tried all the Methods mentioned here and elswhere.
No combination of steps seem to fully work.
I end up being able to make changes to the registry but cannot install any apps. The SDA unlocker says unlocked but no apps install, the security configuration manager provisions but still no apps install.
I can manually edit the registry with the exact sugestions mentioned in several forums and still no dice.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? i am going to send the thing back if i dont figure this out.
Thanks Mike but your Cab doesnt solve anything for me either.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. Can you provide a little more information about what's going wrong?
What programs are you having issues installing?
What is the exact error you are getting?
What programs are currently installed on the device?
Have you hard reset the device and attempted from a clean slate?
I'm just guessing, but it sounds to me like something is corrupt on the device and that's why you're having all these problems. I really think a hard reset and then using my CAB will solve your problem.

Thanks for replying 8)
Programs- i have tried many of the popular ones. core player is the main one i wanted. Google Navigator didnt work. Resco explorer didnt work. etc. plus i cant delete the ATT trial garbage.
Error messages- apps either say just unsuccessful or not meant for this device.
user Installed progs- PHM Reg edit, Google maps, and Skyfire.
I havent tried a complete reset as the device is brand new! Will the "Master Reset" do the trick without dumping my contacts?
Thanks again

I am glad others are having some success. This device has many great features and looks sharp too. My only concern is the battery cover seems a little too flimsy - But no device is perfect. I especially love the screen and the slider function on this thingy.

Ok, by the sounds of that, you might be trying to install applications for Pocket PC or Windows Mobile Professional. Those won't work on this device. The Propel Pro doesn't actually run Windows Mobile Professional (as the name may indicate). It runs Windows Mobile Standard (the non-touch version of Windows Mobile). So you need to make sure that you download the correct version from Resco and Core Player. I'm not sure if Google has a non-touch version of navigator. I use Bing Mobile personally.
user Installed progs- PHM Reg edit, Google maps, and Skyfire.
Ya, those are all WinMo Standard apps. So I'm not surprised that those installed fine.
So try again, but make sure you get the non-touch or Standard version. You might not have to hard reset the device if that's all it is.
Keep us posted.

hello everyone....
great to see that there has been success with unlocking the propel pro. i recently bought one and would like to unlock mine. unfortunately, I'm not as versed in this as the majority of the posters on this forum. with that said, would someone acutally post the step by step process for unlocking thie phone. i've downloaded the securitycab and the power toy, but am having technical difficulties putting them in the right places.
