View Full Version : Lock ups, weirdness with Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2?

I am really struggling with this and am not sure what to try next. A while ago I dumped the official 5.2.19212 ROM and put this into Alex's kitchen. I have updated some of the OEM packages and added some registry tweaks as well as adding my own packages and auto-install stuff (the stuff that executes following a hard-reset).
It has worked for ages but seems to have 'gone bad'. Now following a re-flash the phone boots and seems to behave normally except for the application 'Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2'. This gets installed as part of the auto-install. From a soft-reset Communicator will initially run, however after opening IE it will usually lock up the device where the only option is to soft-reset it. If Communicator is not initially run after a soft-reset and other stuff is started, Live Messenger or IE for example then Communicator won't then even start, sometimes the hour-glass shows (or whatever you call the spinning circle?) for a few seconds and then nothing, other times the hour-glass shows indefinitely and then it locks up again.

I can't for the life of me think what the problem is but I assume it has to do with the kitchen. I thought it might be an issue with using G'Reloc.exe to relocate modules in the kitchen but I never really got any helpful responses to my post about G'Reloc.exe causing issues like this.
If anyone has any ideas as to what is happening or has happened to my kitchen I would be grateful.

Thanks

Andy

All cooked ROM usually goes corrupt for me as well after a certain period of time. They will all work great initially, it might be for months, but then all of a sudden, you cant do anything with them!

I would suggest, update your kitchen to a more recent build and see if that solves the issue.

I am at my whits end with this now :(

I seem to have narrowed it down to some sort of conflict with Windows Live & Communicator Mobile 2007 R2. From a soft reset Communictor will run fine. Communicator will also run fine if has been switched on and simply left for any period of time without starting any applications. However if Windows Live is started (either Messenger or the Windows Live application) then Communicator just locks the device up - The spinning coloured circle appears and just spins and you can't do anything on the device. The device appears to be working as the backlight comes on when you touch the screen, it just won't respond to any buttons.
I seem to have a new error as well now where Communicator will not start, the dialog box Cannot open 'Communicator'. A critical component is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailable'. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Memory, stop programs that did not automatically stop, and try again.

I really need Communicator to work and I don't know what else to try. I have used a backup copy of my kitchen so anything I have added recently that I can't remember has now gone. I really don't know what else to try

Firstly thanks for all the help......

Secondly I think I have now fixed this. I decided to start from scratch and re-dump the official HTC WWE shipped ROM and rebuild my kitchen, adding the OEM packages, updated files and settings one by one to see which one causes Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2 to stop working.
Anyway after a LOT (and I mean a LOT) or reflashing and playing around I think it is the SqlCeMobile 3.5 package (& SqlCeMobile_Lang_0409) that is causing the issue. In the official HTC 5.2.19212 ROM the SqlCeMobile package is version 3.0. At some point I replaced this package with the later SqlCeMobile 3.5 package (probably when I replaced .NetCF 2.0 for .NetCF 3.5). When I replaced the package I also re-moduled it and I think it was this re-moduling of it that was causing the issue. I have re-cooked the ROM and used the same SqlCeMobile package but have converted the modules to files and Communicator now appears to work OK every time.

Why it would work after a soft reset but then fail to start or lock up after Windows Live was run I have no idea? Anyway its working now :)
