Hi Guys!
I'm using Blue_Elves_v5_WM6.1 rom on my Elf for about a year by now. I was pretty happy, but couple of days ago I had a need to use a GPS nav system on my PDA.
Firstly, I was trying IGO8 and it did not run at all as per memory issue, then I moved to Garmin, it woker for about 10 min and shuted down, same problem. I was playing with some more PDA GPS programs, none is reliable so far, 18-20 MB FREE seems is min required memory.
I removed all I could from start up folder, register run section, even got rid of Htc cube (never used anyway), decreased Page Pool to 4 MB, still even after soft reset I only have 16 MB free program memory.
Now, my question is, what ROM would you suggest I can use or any other tricks on my Elf 64 MB, to get my GPS running OK, i.e. to get at least 20 MB free of Program memory?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Com,
My first ever post here after having bought a second hand Elf a couple of weeks ago.
I had exactly the same issue like you, out of memory with iGO8, and I felt like having bought the wrong device.
I found a nice working rom, still looking at why the rest 'fails', to run the GPS apps.
I installed Tesslite 4.4 which can also be found here on the forum.
Yesterday I installed SPB Mobile Shell v3, homescreen plusplus (overclocked it at 286MHz) and the whole device rocks now.
Now I have atleast 21MB free
I had it run iGO8.32.... today and it ran without any issue.
Give it a go and let us know.

Thanks mate !
I'll check this ROM out and let you know. However, if you able to get 21 MB free then I'll be OK too.
Also, being a bit out of this thread path, are you happy with IGO 8? is Garmin better in any way for you?

Well, I've tried Tesslite 4.4 on my elf, it's quite good one, thanks to author!
However, due to lack of general applications in ROM (I'm too lazy to look around for cabs) I reverted back to my own version of Blue_Elves_v5_WM6.1 which is very stable never crashed during whole year of heavy use, was cooked a year ago (having plenty of stuff in it) and updated with latest IPL/SPL 3.14 and PP 4 MB. Indeed, all credits going to original Blue_Elves ROM author, not me!
After tricking around with services I've managed to get 28 MB free after soft rest! Now I can run almost all I need and this is not a lite version of ROM, not at all...!
Thanks to all!
Cheers.

How the hell did you manage to get 28mb of free ram at startup?? I've used Onyx ultimate and lite, also Onyx 6.5 rom, and i never managed to get more than 21mb. Could you describe what you did, to release ram?
thank you!

I actually do not notice any difference with the mob shell or not.

I was surprised myself ! :-))
Well, jump from 16 to 28 occured after following manipulations:
Removed HTC cube, disabled phone skins (advanced config menu), removed Resco voice recorder from autostart, disabling MagiCall and setting PP to 4MB, file sys cache - 64kB.
That was what I've done. Now, what I noticed, after using phone, memory dropped to about 24 MB and stays since for 3 hours already.
Now it is 24.60 MB sharp!
