View Full Version : FREE EXCHANGE SERVICE www.alol.net.br - has anyone tried it?

anyway since mail2web is no loner free this free service could come in handy http://www.alol.net.br
if you get the following message:"the security certificate on the server is not valid. contact your exchange server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server."
Try to use without ssl connection. Or enter in https://win.alol.net.br and get the certficate file and copy to your phone and run the certificate file .cer.
Both options should work.
certificate attached below.
has anyone tried it ? i'm currently using windows live but i'm not too happy with it since i have to forward my gmail to my live acc...
anyway i have tried these services as well:
emoze - only 1mb attachment size
emansio - doesn't work with gmail when HSDPA is enabled (customer service sad that that will be fixed in their next release)
seven - service is unreliable , and too buggy for me (still beta).
WM live - doesn't allways sync (sometimes it takes up to 3hrs to sync my acc)
mail2web - no longer free
funambol - it doesn't exactly push mail.. it usually gets it within 10mins
imap pusher service - isn't stable , however a great and promising project
massaint direct push - http://dpush.massaint.com
It's free DirectPush , currently works only with gmail through ActiveSync
so does anyone have some more info on this alol.net.br exchange service - my main concern is if it's going to stay free and can i use a different "reply to/send" adress.
thanks
EDIT : added alol certificate

It works perfect. Pushes in a second, 1GB space, up to 100MB attachment. Thanks for sharing. But looks you can't use different address.

Works with your desktop Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010
Very nice, but you can't use your existing Windows Live account for it. The only way to get those emails would be to foward them. Other than that, if you're looking for a new email address, this is fantastic!

I think you can add a GMail account to your Mail on your phone, but it doesn't use the Exchange server at all, it just goes through POP or IMAP or whatever it uses.

i use alol since 2 weeks now and i must sat that it is really reliable.
i sync ppc, tabletpc and desktop pc (mail, calendar, contacts n tasks).
the guy from alol was very helpful to configure all of this.
but if u want to also sync ourlook 2007 sp2 with alol (and any other xchange i guess), you will have to dl a hotfix for outlook, unless you configure the account before applying sp2. i did a lot of search and test before understandin and finding that.
u can pm if you need
btw, i recommand alol, it is working very well (i ger all my email from several addresses with gmail and forward all 2 alol; so that i get push for all boxes with 1 only account. little drawback: i answer all my mails with alol address)

Hmm that's true. Idk, I actually never thought about that. Bad idea by me, most likely. Well I'll tell you if anything happens. I noticed that they seem to be from Mexico or another Spanish speaking place, because all of their e-mails have spanish in the headers, like the to and from parts.

OK, so here is the walkthrough i followed :
1. if you have SP2 for Office 2007 installed, DL the hotfix from MS here :
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;969519
(you may have to ask for it and receive link by mail with a password on archive like it was for me, as it was not publicly available last week)
2. install it by using the password emailed to you by MS (I didn't have to reboot after that, but you may have to ...)
3. In the config panel, find the mail icon ('courrier' on my french vista), in order to configure your exchange account as follows :
(3.0. choose the option to configure exchange account)
3.1. disable automatic config
3.2. server address = win.alol.net.br
3.3. disabled using cache
3.4. enter your user name (what is before the "@alol.net.br")
3.5. check name (now that SP2 is installed, you should get the server renamed to WIN.alol.net.br and underlined, and your name change to whatever you filled for 1st and last name, then underlined as well)
3.6. leave all the other (advanced) options as is, if it doesn't work then the problem comes from elsewhere, yu can beleive, i tried nearly any possible combination of these options ;)
3.7. finish the exchange mail configurator and launch outlook (while connected to the internet)
IN OUTLOOK
outlook should configure your account automatically but if it says that it can't open mail folder and that server must be down for maintenance (blablabla) then closes itself, here is what i did :
1. go back to mail option in config panel
2. create a fake address book (i created a mobile phone address book)
3. start outlook
4. once synchronized with exchange (check in the right lower case), delete fake address book
5. close outlook and restart, just to be sure.
I don't know if these last steps will be necessary because when i did them on my tabletpc, in the meantime, the guy from ALOL following my case had opened a second TCP (1038), which is reputed to help solving some connexion problems. So i don't know what trick worked, but now it works from my ppc, from my desktop and from my tablet.
Hope it can help other uses.
For informations ALOL = america latina on line - it seems to be an official ISP provider in brazil, but i don't know if it could be a proof of security for our informations. (in fact, what about what we knew from mail2web ?? In my case, i know alol as well as mail2web on the subject of the security of my data)
cheers.

Oh that happened to me too. Go to the exchange settings (on your phone) and then make sure to uncheck the secure SSL server box thing. Then finish the settings and click sync. It will ask you if you want to be secure or whatever, and say yes.
Those are general instructions, but you should be able to figure it out. That's what worked for me.

Well I had it working with Windows 7 but then it stopped working randomly. It said the exchange server was "Disconnected". I tried a bunch of things and nothing worked. This was on Outlook SP1
Now I re-installed Outlook and am on Outlook SP2. It gives me this error when trying to open:
Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can syncronize your folders with your offline folder file.
Any ideas? I've been trying at this for hours now.

you can register and than you get a email to join their google group where you can post your problems/questions.

Are you running the Windows 7 RC??? Or just Vista? Because I think these issues might be related to Windows 7. Thanks.
Now, I am back on WM7 as i found a way to have the journal working !
(and i must say that's good news for tablet users as the handwriting recognition is far far better in wm7 than in vista, and the GUI is more stylus friendly than vista too).
For now, that's to say since yesterday afternoon, I had no problem syncing my tablet (WM7) with alol exchange service, either from 3G+ (blackstone as modem) or from home (ADSL). It just works everytime and realtime (I added an appointment from blackstone, and it was automatically and immediately sync'd on tablet and on home desktop as well).
I received several mails too this morning on blackstone and on tablet in the mean time.
The only drawback, that is not intended to WM7 but to outlook (or the way i managed to configure it, to say it all), is that I have no access to my PIM datas (on tablet which is not always connected) when exchange is disconnected (that's to say = when there is no internet connection). IF SOMEONE COULD HELP, THAT WOULD BE GREAT ;)

He already got it working by disabling the SSL connection a week ago or so.
And I would use the certificate that you posted (thanks for finding that, by the way), but with the frequency that I flash new ROM's, it's just not worth re-installing it every time. I bet others will find it helpful though!

1. How does alol service and wm6.1 syncronizations work?
2. How can I receive pushmail in my XDA2, is there any "howto"?
3. Should I use Office 2007? or maybe there is an update for my outlook2003 for using alol pushmail service?
4. howto bring my yahoomail, gmail and hotmail using Alol service?
Right now I'm using office 2003 on WinXPSP3 and wm6.1 on xda2.
I hope you can answer my questions.

It works through an Exchange server, which is what large companies use to send and recieve emails. Basically, it's just like your gmail but it supports syncronization of your E-Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks, all over the air without plugging in your phone. And it's all synced real-time which means any changes made on one device are "pushed" to the other device, instantly.
Any Windows Mobile phone can recieve push e-mail via an Exchange server, so yes, your phone will work with it. When you sign up, they send you the settings that you have to enter. All you gotta do on your phone (after you sign up for the account) is go to Start -> Programs -> ActiveSync, and set up a new server under the Menu option. Follow the set-up there, and use the settings that they e-mailed to you. Make sure to uncheck the "Secure SSL Connection" box while setting it up, and then when you first try syncing, it will say that it needs to enforce security measures, say OK. Oh, and you need a data plan or internet access of course :)
Outlook 2003 should work fine. It should install any necessary updates if there are any needed ones. If it doesn't work properly, just ask us.
Well, you can set up your yahoo, gmail, and hotmail accounts to Foward mail to your @alol.net.br account. Then you will recieve the messages on your devices, but you can't reply to them from your yahoo account. All replies will be sent via your @alol account. If you need some help on how to get your mail forwarded, just ask us again.

Guyz,
Thaks so much for sharing info about this free exchange host. I have synced my winmo 6.1 with it and with help from this thread it works great.
I have only problem with connecting my desktop outlook 2007 to Ex 2007. I did anything described here by lezink:
-------------------------------------------------------
3. In the config panel, find the mail icon ('courrier' on my french vista), in order to configure your exchange account as follows :
(3.0. choose the option to configure exchange account)
3.1. disable automatic config
3.2. server address = win.alol.net.br
3.3. disabled using cache
3.4. enter your user name (what is before the "@alol.net.br")
3.5. check name (now that SP2 is installed, you should get the server renamed to WIN.alol.net.br and underlined, and your name change to whatever you filled for 1st and last name, then underlined as well)
3.6. leave all the other (advanced) options as is, if it doesn't work then the problem comes from elsewhere, yu can beleive, i tried nearly any possible combination of these options
3.7. finish the exchange mail configurator and launch outlook (while connected to the internet)
-----------------------------------------------------------
But I stop in 3.5 when I click check name - I have error - Cannot complete action. Cannot combine name with names on address list.
I have Outlook 2007 with sp2 and also I have installed hotfix provided here - I spent few hours giving endless combinations of name (with @alol.net.br and without) - but it just doesn't work.
I can log in to OWA and it syncs with my winmo6.1 - any ideas how to get it to work with xp and outlook 2007

As you applied the hotfix and (i assume) you are connected to Internet, did you try to disable your firewall, just to see if it is faulty.
Otherwise, try to start from scratch with a new outlook profile (in config panel > mail)

Is anyone else's Exchange not connecting? Mine doesn't work on my PC or on my phone. Seems like they must be working on it right now.
Their website (http://www.alol.net.br/) is down too. This sucks. Hope they get it fixed soon.
I can confirm that it's not working for me either, from my computer or my mobile phone.

But, maybe this has something to do with it: http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/06/08/100000-websites-destroyed-by-hackers
100,000 websites were destroyed by hackers. Hopefully it's just a coincidence.

did u try to create a fake address book in outlook ?
send a mail to alol (via OWA) maybe they can help :it seems that you are not recognized.
you got the login form ?? if not you could try to force ssl in adv.settings
Yes I have login form, I have also tried to create fake address book, but I don't know if Iam following your precedure (I tried to rename and add some addresses in general adress book which ends .wab and also tried to add some fake book as import to outlook - how exactly you did this step).
I am bit tired of this and, I wrote to Alol support and waiting for answer also - anyone have any ideas?
No one didn't face same difficulitu with "name could not be matched to a name in the address list"?

I can confirm it was short malfunction. I have another question regarding Exchange - I don't know how much you take care about your data, but I use Outlook from years I need all my email, taks, calendars etc in one piece.
Here we have this issue with ost file instead of normal pst. From what I searched it should be exact copy of outlook data (same like this on Exchange) storaged locally at out pc hard disc.
In fact it isn't - ost work as long as you are connected to Exchange, if they go down for good, or make some changes in their policy (monthly fee etc) we can lost all our data. This is MS policy for preventing data fraud (ex employee fired from work wants backup all company email and so on). It is not possible to change default location of data from Exchange to local pst cos this option is greyed out (server admin issue) and ost>pst converters are expensive and do not work always.
I have managed to solve issue with mail by creating rule that moves all send and incoming mails to specific, pst based folder - but I don't know how can I do this with contacts, calendars, tasks etc.
Anyone has same data security concerns? Is it possible to make rules for every created data, task entry to move it auto to pst based folder (copy), or anyone tried to get his data in pst file instead of alol exchange?

It comes nearly to the problem i mentionned in an early post : how to have my pim data available when not connected to exchange ? for instance, a copy (pst) of the ost data hosted on exchange server. I have no clue about that for now, unfortunately.
Concerning the specific case of not losing data in case of month fee or unavailability of server, couldn't it be possible to make a backup of the whole pim data, say every week, for example ?

Yes, go to your hotmail account online, go to Options, and then More Options, and there's an E-Mail fowarding option.
Fowarding Instructions
Go to mail.live.com
Sign in
Click Options
Click More options
Click Foward mail to another e-mail account
Choose the Foward your mail to another e-mail account option
Type in your @alol.net.br account in the text box
Click Save
Close out of the window, and your mail will be forwarded!
You can choose an option to keep copies of the forwarded messages in your hotmail account, I would choose that option
Enjoy!

Yeah, this option (and many others) can be disabled by the security policy set up on the Exchange server, and this is the case here.
Kinda sucks when the phone sets the roaming status even when registered in the home network though (like in my case) :(
Also, I'm shocked by how often it's mentioned in this thread to go without SSL instead of getting the certificate to work.
You do realize that this way your password will be sent unencrypted, right?
You never know who's listening in on the traffic going over open wifi networks.

if you get the following message:"the security certificate on the server is not valid. contact your exchange server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server."

When you go in without SSL, it comes up with a message that requires you to accept some security policies, so there is security that you don't know about.

When you go in without SSL, it comes up with a message that requires you to accept some security policies, so there is security that you don't know about.
Oh no, not at all. These are security policies that contain settings for your device, like whether a device lock password or storage card encryption is required, whether it's allowed to access the device camera, Wi-Fi, storage card, stuff like that. In this case, the security policy disables the ability to automatically sync when roaming.
These settings are configured by the Exchange server administrator in order to protect corporate information; they do not add encryption to the Exchange ActiveSync protocol, and they will be applied whether you are using SSL or not.
Of course, if you know what you're doing (like not using public networks to connect to Exchange, or connecting through an encrypted tunnel) you can disable SSL; unfortunately, most users probably don't know what they're doing and don't understand the implications of clearing the SSL checkbox. This is not the proper way to get this to work.
So please save yourself the trouble of someone else possibly gaining access to your account and do it the proper, SSL-encrypted way, by installing the security certificates on your device.

I have used in the past mail2web. It was good reliable service on PDA but you could not connect with Desktop outlook. Therefore I have not sync. PIM information and just used for push email.
After the free service has been cancelled I start to use MS live.
Be frank it was a big pain in the Axx. Compare to a Exchange service. Sometimes it doesnt sync at all. Sometimes mail arrives late. But then sometimes no problem at all. However if you dont have a good connection it leads you high data transfer and higher battery consumption.
Of course you have no possibility to sync Calendar, task, etc.
Now since one week I use Alol.net.br. Be frank I think it is very very good!! Better then mail2web which was Exchange 2003
The Service guys are just perfect. If any issues..send email and they usually answer under 2 hours
Besides after some difficulties( try 3 days  ) I can also connect my Desktop outlook. Now I can Sync all my Desktop PIM which will be then Air sync to hand device. In this one week I barely use ActiveSync or connect my WinMo to my Desktop.. very very happy!!!!! One small thing maybe the "@alol.net.br" seems long to remember for some.. just "@alol.com" would have been great. Anyhow will sure donate some cash to those guys.

Well I had it working with Windows 7 but then it stopped working randomly. It said the exchange server was "Disconnected". I tried a bunch of things and nothing worked. This was on Outlook SP1
Now I re-installed Outlook and am on Outlook SP2. It gives me this error when trying to open:Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can syncronize your folders with your offline folder file.Any ideas? I've been trying at this for hours now.
Outlook and exchange server are usually communicating trough port 135. Most of the ISPs are blocking those ports. Therefore please check whether your port 135 is open. Other good trick to use to see whether the issue come from your Ports or whether you have some issues with your outlook is to use your WinMO to connect your desktop to internet. (Internet sharing)

You HAVE to accept the security policies upon first sync. That's probably your issue. Try it again, you might have to remove and then re-configure Exchange in order for that pop-up to appear again.

You're using Outlook Web Access Light, it looks like. The full version will have a Tasks option. Also, you computer and your phone will sync tasks. Sorry for the not-so-quick reply, I was sleepin, lol. Here's what Outlook Web Access - Full Version looks like: You can get into the full version when logging in, you have the option of full or lite.
Sorry for the low quality image, XDA compressed it I guess. But the Tasks are at the bottom left.

Don't think that using two exchange servers is possible, except on the Palm Pre, but that's not a Windows Mobile phone. It's amusing how the Palm Pre can use infinite Exchange servers, but then a computer is still limited to one!
But no, you can't use two, as far as I know.

When using Outlook Web Access you better use IE as the full OWA site is only available with IE, it's much much better than with any other browser. Only with Exchange 2010 will Firefox and Safari be fully supported as well.

When i send an email from my webfrontend of my email-account (germany, arcor.de) i can send mails to alol.net.br.
When i send an email with thunderbird from arcor.de to alol.net.br i get an error message back: can´t deliver mail because of spam
This error message only cames back, when i send the mail over the arcor-smtp-server. Today i tested in my work, same Thunderbird-Client (Thunderbird-Portable) but over my smtp-server in work, an now i can receive the mails.
If i delete an email from my ppc, why won´t this be deleted on my alol.net.br-account to? I tested this several times, but the mails i deletetd on my ppc were never deletetd from my account, only from the mobile device.

Deleted Items - NOT synced
Drafts - NOT synced
Junk E-Mail - NOT synced
SubFolders - Probably not, then
But, any other service isn't gonna sync those either. An Exchange server is the best it gets.

Just tried it from my imate ultimate and voila, the from address is my gmail address.

This is indeed a great service. The donation is well worth it. They changed the "From" address and added back the 1GB storage and 100MB attachment just a couple minutes after my donation.
It syncs with desktop Outlook 2003. But for me, I don't do it because somehow, every email my desktop Outlook retrieves, it removes the email from the server and there's no way to get it back. So, I only use my phone to connect to the exchange server (which doesn't experience the same problem). This may just be a problem with some of my settings. If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd really appreciate it.

If i send a mail from my mobile phone, i can see the sent mail in the folder on the web-frontend. The folder sent mail on my mobile phone is empty.
If i delete a mail, i can see the mail in the folder in the web-frontend, but again my folder on mobile phone is emty. With self created folders it´s the same.
So the folders are synced, but only in one way. On my mobile phone only my inbox is synced.

If you go to "Manage folders" in the mail app, you can check your Sent folder. This will sync that folder. It is two way. What I send on my mobile is visible in the web outlook. I've sent in web outlook is visible on my mobile.
The delete folder appears to be 1 way sync. What you delete on your mobile will be deleted on the server. But the web outlook's delete folder's contents will not show up on the mobile.

Set up your IMAP account to foward the mail to your @alol.net.br account. That's the best you can do.
And if you donate to ALOL, then your exchange account can appear as your IMAP account (a.k.a. It'll look like it's actually sending from your IMAP account). So that's the best option, foward mail and donate to ALOL.

Yes, i know that already. I have all my former email-adresses forwarded to the alol.net.br-account.
But i still have one problem:
I´m from germany and it seems, that german-providers mark this brasilian-account as spam. I sent a few test-mails to my other (german) email-accounts and in two accounts the mail was declared as spam.
I sent a simple html mail with only a few words for testing. No picture, only "test test test".
If i let change my email-adress-name, will the german email-accounts still declare my exchange-adress as spam? I think, german accounts are set to declare asian and south-american mails as probably spam.
Anyone has this problems too?

I found out, how to sync your own folders:
I use a german vista, donīt know the english names of the things...
-open Vista Mobile Device Center
-click on the last entry (maybe settings of your mobile phone)
-click on first entry (maybe settings for sync)
-click on email--settings for sync
-click on last entry (maybe choose folders to sync)
--> now you can choose all your own folders to sync
I tried and it works!

I've got this working with Outlook 2007 SP2 but when I added the Exchange Server to Outlook 2010, Outlook no longer loads up. It fails, even when trying to start in Safe Mode.
It still won't open even once the Server details are deleted.
Anyone else experienced this problem?

Idk, I haven't used the Outlook 2010 beta for a while. It had too many issues and lots of bugs. I'd recommend just downgrading to 2007. Sure 2010 has some nice threaded e-mails, but I think it still deletes your e-mails when you read them, for some reason. I can't help you with getting 2010 set up, either. Heck, I had trouble just getting Exchange to work with 2007!! That was tough enough. I didn't need more Beta issues screwing it up.

Outlook 2010 is awesome; I cannot wait until it moves into Beta and out of Tech Preview. Accross the board, Office 2010 provides some really nice little touches to make me definitiely want to purchase it and upgrade my 2007 system. [FYI - it doesn't delete any emails. If you mean they disappear off the server then try unchecking the "delete from server" option in the Advanced Settings of Account Setup just as per all versions Outlook. Alternatively, don't click the "Clean Up Conversation" option. Don't think that bit is quite nailed down yet.]
I've currently downgraded back to 2007 and alol is working like a charm. Anyone reading this thread and wondering if they should go with it, do it! If you've not used Exchange before you'll be amazed. The whole experience is seemless: Calendar, contacts, tasks everywhere. If you're happy to change email address as well, hell you'll even get you're mail pushed to you and maintain a sensible folder structure.
Well recommedened!

As far as the donation, I believe I did $10 too.
Except for the 2 recent outages, its been very reliable for me and a great service and I'm glad they offer it for free (even though I like the perks of the donations too).
According to their support, the 2 outages were related to a hardware upgrade, and all emails were queued and delivered when the server came back up.

Yea, we get like 2-5 outages each month. But it's not that big of an issue, because all of your missed e-mails stream in once it comes back. You will NOT miss any e-mails.

On the page, it says that after donating there is the possibility to change the "From:" when sending or replying. Is there a possibility, like at Gmail, that "From:" is automatically set to the email the original mail was sent to?
Like if I forward my GMX account to alol, I want to have my GMX-address as From for all emails that I reply to which were sent to my GMX adress. Is that possible?
Thanks in advance :)

Shadowman, Yes donating money and choosing your own email adress for "from" will appear as the mail comes from your own GMX email account and the receiver of the mails will ofcourse reply to email that is "from" (your own)

I have several adresses and I forward all to the ALOL account. Now if I get an email to adress A and I reply to that via ALOL, I want the adress A as From. If I get an email to adress B, which is forwarded to ALOL and to which I reply via ALOL, I want adress B as From. This works with Momail, Gmail, .., they know to which adress the original mail was sent and automatically select the right From.
Would be so great if that was possible with ALOL too :)

Not what I meant. I've been using wm6.5 for months now (currently on Dutty's Leo R2). I meant the new version of Pocket Outlook (now called Outlook Live). Outlook on our devices can be updated OTA to contain the new features that were demoed and discussed as the time of the Office 2010 Tech Preview release. However this update only takes place if you are using Exchange 2010.

Getting this up and running on the PC seems a little hit and miss.
I had no problems at all setting alol up to run one my Windows 7 RC using Outlook 2010 Tech Preview; since downgrading to Outlook 2007 SP2 on the same machine there are still no problems.
I cannot get alol to work on my Windows 7 RC laptop running Outlook 2007 SP2 though (no idea why) and I've tried to get a seperate account set up for someone else on a Vista SP1 laptop running Outlook 2007 SP2; but that seemed to be a no-go as well.

Have you checked whether your 135...139 ports open? To check whether you have issues with your ports or with Outlook itself there is 2 ways:
1)Use your Mobile device to connect your PC to Internet(connection sharing)
2)use the free VPN service by http://anchorfree.com to see whether you can connect with it

All,
I have been using this service for about a week now on my phone. It is great! It also works on Outlook 2007 if I am not behind any sort of corporate firewall or a hotel that may block certain IP traffic. I have tried and tried to get the alol certificate to install to the Trusted Root of my Vista computer, but it does not work. When I do the import, I get the message stating that the import was successful. But, the certificate does not appear in that particular store. Any help is greatly appreciated as I need the HTTP proxy connection. Thanks for your help!

I had this problem when trying to set up a second pc with Alol. It works fine and I've got it running on Office 2010 TP. I emailed monitor@alol.net.br and they sent me different informationt to put into the 'Name' section. One thing though, you need to have created you Alol account before 8/22/2009.
If want to access your ALOL.Net.br account via Microsoft Outlook place the following in the name form:
/o=ALOL/ou=Exchange Administrative Group(FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=dom_mitchell1
When to ask your login and password just put "dom_mitchell1" and your password.
Obviously that is the name for my account, I don't know if your would be the same but changing the username after the cn= part. Best advice, drop Alol an email at the above address!
Hope this helps; it's allowed me to have it running on both Outlook 2007 SP2 and Outlook 2010 TP across two machines.

are you sure your ports (135..139) not blocked by firewale or from your service provider?? if you wanted to confirm whether you have issue with connection or with outlook it self you could do one thing..connect your computer to net with using your device as modem (internet sharing) then try to connect to alol.

For my knowledge PPC using different protocol to connect to exchange then PC. Furthermore I am not sure abut your router but port 135 to 139 ports are ussualy blocked by routers and firewales. Therefore you need to make sure you can connect to Alol with your desktop. You might try to ping Alol to see whether you are able to get connection. My previous suggestion using your ppc as modem is also other way to find out that you dont have connection problems on your desktop

Hi all, this is my first post! I have very little knowledge on this area but was able to resolve my problem with the help of this forum.
Thank you very much for this info bliblablub! I was struggling with this for the past 2 days and the solution was here.
I was trying to setup my ALOL free Exchange account in Outlook 2007 and couldn't get the name checked.
I was using "first_name.last_name" for user and was always getting this error message: "Name could not be matched to a name in the Address List".
In my case, the solution was:
Access Outlook Web Access @ http://win.alol.net.br/owa/
Options;
About;
Copy the text after "Exchange mailbox address: "
/o=ALOL/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (ABCDEFGH12ABCDE)/cn=Recipients/cn=first_name.last_name;
Use the text as user and press "Check Name";
DONE! The server and user names should now be underlined

Well do existing customers get to keep their free account? My exchange is still up and running.
But I think that's the point of these...they lure you with the free account, and then over time, when you become more dependant on it, they make you pay :p

Hi, is it possible to configure outlook 2007 on my desktop?
I readed much info in this post and on the internet, maybe i forget something? or it simply doesnt work:confused:
Hoping not for an reaction like: "search" THANKS!
What i've done so far (and found by searching)
Using win.alol.net.br since 04-08-09 on my PDA
- i saw somewhere you needed to be registered before 01-09-09?
Installed the certificate from the first post
- followed the steps under here:
1. if you have SP2 for Office 2007 installed, DL the hotfix from MS here :
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;969519
(was already installed on my computer)
2. install it by using the password emailed to you by MS (I didn't have to reboot after that, but you may have to ...)
3. In the config panel, find the mail icon ('courrier' on my french vista), in order to configure your exchange account as follows :
(3.0. choose the option to configure exchange account)
3.1. disable automatic config
3.2. server address = win.alol.net.br
3.3. disabled using cache
3.4. enter your user name (what is before the "@alol.net.br")
3.5. check name (now that SP2 is installed, you should get the server renamed to WIN.alol.net.br and underlined, and your name change to whatever you filled for 1st and last name, then underlined as well)
3.6. leave all the other (advanced) options as is, if it doesn't work then the problem comes from elsewhere, yu can beleive, i tried nearly any possible combination of these options
3.7. finish the exchange mail configurator and launch outlook (while connected to the internet)
IN OUTLOOK
outlook should configure your account automatically but if it says that it can't open mail folder and that server must be down for maintenance (blablabla) then closes itself, here is what i did :
1. go back to mail option in config panel
2. create a fake address book (i created a mobile phone address book)
3. start outlook
4. once synchronized with exchange (check in the right lower case), delete fake address book
5. close outlook and restart, just to be sure.
Tried many diffirent exchange adresses & usernames like: http://win.alol.net.br/owa, http://win.alol.net.br/, https://win.alol.net.br/owa, http://win.alol.net.br/owa/cgabakker, etc.
Usernames: cgabakker, cgabakker@win.alol.net.br, /o=ALOL/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=cgabakker
opened ports 135 till 139 on my firewall's switch/norton
Tried to contact monitor@win.alol.net.br but getting an non delivery...
You're my last hope otherwise i'll give it up.

You must know that Google has now his own push server. With it you can get ur mail by using wap connection.
Connnections details here : http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
You must configurate it as an outlook exchange mail (under active sync) il you want to use the push options.
Specially useful for ppl like me with only wap data connection (french SFR Illimythics).

Listed on the above link I am satisfied with what I would receive for a single donation of $10 or the $29.
However, can anyone tell me if I could retain my old email address and use it in this exchange account, or I would be forced to use myname@alol.net.br I can't find information on this.

I tried these ALOL folks out for awhile. For the small donation I have to agree it wasn't all that bad. However, I was interested in something of better quality, even if I had to pay a little for it. ALOL just wasn't pushing it on time all the time. So I bumped around and the cheapest I could find was the Zimbra Collaboration Suite for $4 a month. I bit the bullet and haven't looked back since. Signed up a colleague after he also used ALOL for 1 month and he isn't looking back either. http://www.squeaksoft.com/ Absolutely no complaints so far. If you can live without phone support and rely on email support, and $4 is within your budget, then follow me.

Warning of Annual Rate!
Monitor ALOL
Dear customers,
For some years, we provide a free email service, which has always been funded through donations. Unfortunately, due to operating costs, it became impossible to continue providing the service for free.
From now on, we inform you that the our Exchange service is going to be charged an a annual and symbolic rate, of $24.99, which is necessary to keep the service. The value, if compared to other similar services, is only symbolic.
Those who are interested in continuing to have the our Exchange service, can pay the rate on the link below, until April 30, 2011.
paypal com
Those who do not wish to continue with the our Exchange service, just do not do the donation. The accounts of customers who do not donate until the date of April 30, 2011 will automatically be canceled. Those who opt for non-donation and for the service`s automatically cancel, should do some copies of the necessary information and data, until April 30, 2011, which is the date when all accounts and information from customers who do not donate is going to be deleted.
Sincere Thanks,

Yes, it's legit. I've emailed them about it. The only concern I have about paying is its unreliability. Sometimes incoming mail can be delayed by hours, i.e. nothing comes in for hours on end, despite the fact I know it's been sent. This happens for all the devices I have connected, and even their webmail interface. They reckon that with the anticipated drop in user numbers after the introduction of this yearly charge, the service will be quicker and more reliable. The other gripe I have is that sometimes outgoing mail is also delayed for several hours.
