View Full Version : HTC TyTn(Herm200) Error 260 during hard-SPL upgrade

Hi,
I would very high appreciate if someone in this community could help me with the Hard-SPL upgrade problem. I read a lot of threads in this forum and in other forums. I tried to follow several solutions but I get stuck all time during the upgrade to hard spl 2.10 with an error 260.
I connected my mobile via USB cable. WMGC 6.1 is running on my PC --> synchronizing has finished. Then I started Ruuwraper on my vista PC --> after I answered yes to upgrade to hard-spl 2.10 --> on my mobile appeared enterBL.exe and was asking me if I should run it Y/N. Then I replied with yes --> afterwards it appeared the bootloader
IPL-SSPL by Desc
SPL-1.09ds
but then there is no reaction for about half a minute. Afterwards it appears on the PC "error 260" (I should check if the cable is connected via USB)
However I see that USB appears on the bootloader screen. In my opinion it should work, but didn't !
if I go into bootloader I read following :
IPL --> 1.01
SPL --> 1.04
IMG 1.23.707.4
My desktop OS --> vista 64
windows mobile center --> V6.1.6965
Can it be that I need a special USB cable for my HTC ?
Or ????
Thanks in advance for your help.

I know that there is a problem with using 64bit OS versions, so if you have another computer you can use that isn't 64bit to check whether it is that or not.
Good luck :D

Thanks for your fast reply.
I tried on my other computer (laptop installed windows XP SP3). However I failed with the same problem.

When i first tried to flash my device i had a problem of it not connecting to the boot loader, it seemed that every time the phone changed to boot loader the computer would no longer recognize it and it wouldn't be synced with the computer. i think i managed to get around this problem by putting my phone into boot loader (ok button + power + reset button) and then connecting it for some reason the computer would then recognize it and it would work. I cant remember what it was i was flashing it may have been hard-spl
Hope this helps, Good luck :D
Edit: I found this information on completely different forum that came from HTC about what to do
HTC's Answer: I was instructed to disconnect and soft-reset. Then I was instructed to go to Settings>System>Memory>Running programs and Stop All. Including Active Sync. We then reconnected the phone. Established a sync and ran the utility. Active Sync still goes away and you get the falling tone of a Disconnect. Ignore it and proceed as if everything is connected. Bang Zoom. 10 minutes later I'm loading software. *dance*
this is what is meant to happen as i flashed a new rom the other day on vista and windows had to find the device again and reconnect i think after this small pause it worked again.

Ok, I tried. Following result :
I see that Serial goes to USB but then no reaction. I can see on the WMDC 6.1 --> it shows still "not connected".
I found one article below and tried as well but it starts not automatecly from the bootloader too :
HERMIMG.nbh on a FAT32 filesystem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/files/hermes_sd_flashing.jpg
1. If you want to install any ROM (NBH) which is not supplied by your operator or the CID does not match then you will need to SuperCID your device. This can be easily done by installing HardSPL and should be the first thing done if doing any upgrading.
2. Empty (erase the contents) of your 2 gig or smaller non-SHDC MicroSD card (the Hermes bootloader does not support SDHC) from the Windows Mobile file explorer or format it from your computer using a card reader (in some cases format doesn't work) make sure it's formated in FAT32 format. As a precaution you might want to check the MicroSD card for file errors. i.e (Properties->Tools->Error Checking)
3. Extract the .NBH file from your preferred ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file. In Linux / MacOS use cabextract.
4. Rename the .NBH file to HERMIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card.
5. With microSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (hold Ok button on left side and POWER button at same time and stick with stylus in RESET on bottom).
6. You should see a screen similar to the one pictured on the left (What lines appear depends on what is included in the nbh. If the file doesn't include bootloader code, that line will not appear, and so on.) Confirm flashing on screen by pressing the power button.
7. Flashing might hang after some time but this is normal. Just wait. Complete flash takes about 30 minutes, so check your battery or connect to charger before the flashing process starts.
8. After you get the confirmation that the upgrade is complete, softreset your device.

So you tried flashing using the sd card method and still no result?
sw11111

yes
and now I tried your suggestion with stop running programs activsync and calender.
Also the same --> error 260

I would've hoped that one of the methods would work, i take it the device syncs up fine normally to device center and you can access all your files etc?
This is the thread i quoted from there is some more information about the problem i don't know whether it will help though.

I take it your planning to flash a newer rom onto your hermes, are you running the stock rom that came with it at the moment?
I just ran the hard-spl ruuwrapper.exe on my computer with out my phone connected this gave me the 260 error so it is most probably something to do with the phone connecting whilst in boot loader mode, did you click yes to run any program that it asked you to on the phone?
I did read some where that resetting the pc might work but i dont know whether it will make a difference considering you've already tried it on another computer.
Good luck :D

See my comments inline :

Actually I bought the HTC in Taiwan (CHT is the brand on the front) in a shop. At the beginning there was a chinese OS and the seller in the shop changed it to the english version.

yes, it appered enterBL.exe on my mobile. Then I answered with Y.

yes, on my laptop (windows xp). The same problem -->error 260. There is only one difference between my desktop and my laptop. activsync (with windows xp) drops during using the program RUUWraper which WMDC 6.1 (with vista) does not.
Good luck :D

i dont really know what to suggest, what happened when you tried flashing it using the sd card method?

Tried already. Not working too.
program starts not automatically with .nbh file from the SD card when I went into bootloader.

you could try the sd card method again, following the instructions Here (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing) to the letter and see how it goes because that should bypass the problem of it not connecting and should work.

I tried again to flash via SD card but my mobile does not recognize the .nbh file. The mobile stays in bootloader mode and does nothing.
Edit :
maybe I made something wrong ? I used the .nbh file from the Hard-SPL. Is this ok ?

i have attached the .nbh file from hard-spl. renamed to what it is needed to be to work. reformat the memory card so that it is blank and in fat32 format, put this file on it and follow the rest of the steps.

Thanks. My SD card is already formatted with FAT32. Is it really necessary to format it again ? I deleted only the files on the SD card and tried it already but it did not work.
If yes to format FAT32 again, do you have also a program for FAT32 formating which is running on vista ?
I downloaded fat32format already but I have to find an adapter to put it into the PC to format. Or is there another possibility to format ?
From the PC I did not find a possibility to access to format directly on my mobile.

there is a formatter on vista but the memory card would have to be connected to the pc, when i brought my micro sd card it came with an adapter to an sd card so i can use it in a usb card reader or the one on the front of my tower.
other wise i dont know if you can format it this way whilst it is connected to the phone.

I bought a new card with the adapter, formatted it with FAT32, copied your file to the SD card.
But no reaction after coming into bootloader:(
What I found out is that I cannot see my 4 GB SD card on my mobile. Have I do something more ?
It says under seetings --> storage card ==> not installed

the 4gb card wont show up on wm5 which is what i assume your device is running on currently, you will need to flash a wm6 rom as cards bigger than 2gb work with them.
if you have not already you should try your other card again as it will be registered with wm5.

After formatting the 2GB SD card and copy your .nbh file to the SD card :
it was starting loading....
after few seconds it appeared on top the number 00068002
then again appeared the bootloader and stopped. :(

i dont understand why it wouldve stopped this method usually works as far as i know all the time, it does take somewhere in the region of 30mins to complete a rom flash so it will probably take a while to do hard-spl but i dont know of any errors with the method.
ill have a look around the forums for you and see if i can dig up any thing about it.

Ive found a few threads so far one piece of advice i saw is for the kaiser but i figured it should work with the hermes as all other things are the same when flashing using a card.
******Card should be formatted FAT32 and allocation unit size should be 512 bytes.******

im just looking at the site now i found this information for the same error code you got with your sd card it is in the hermes forums so is maybe worth a try depends on what you think.
OK here's an update on this situation, what it needed was a hard-reset first. No reason I can think of why this should be so but as soon as I reset it, I was able to upgrade the bootloader via the SD card method the OS rom via an Windows XP PC.
I was hoping not to have to hard reset until I came to upgrade the rom as I wanted to be sure I had a list of all the software to reinstall first but whatever.
So for anyone else having upgrade issues, try a hard reset first.

Now I could update my SPL with the file AUTO_Unlock_v3a.bat
IPL --> 1.04
SPL now 2.10.Olipro
:):):):)
My question now :
should I make the same via SD card for the ROM upgrade ?
Edit :
I tried with the cable and it worked :)
Will see the outcome when it's finished

so you've hard-spl ed it? if you want any help on choosing roms i have some experience with choosing them and might be able to point you to the direction of a good one.
Good luck :D
the sd card method is safer and considering you now have 2 cards once you've upgraded to wm6/.1/.5 you could keep the 2gb card spare for flashing different roms as you'll find that you may end up flashing alot of them. although ive done all my flashing though the cable and once flashed around 7 roms in one day.

From what i have read about sd cards i think wm6 does support them but i dont know whether they work with the hermes, there is a thread about bigger card which i think is also about sdhc cards so that might be worth a look if you want to know any more. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=469178

Should be able to use up to 32Gb SD card (the limit of SDHC). I run an 8Gb sd card in my Hermes and have seen post of people using 16Gb with no probs.
Just remember though that if you wish to use the sd card method to upgrade anything you need a 2Gb or less card as bootloader doesn't recognise SDHC cards.

Thanks for the info. Now i can look for a bigger SD-card.
I will keep the 2 GB for upgrading.
Can i flash a rom the same way as Hard-SPL? I'm working with vista and the wonderfull  Mobile Device Center wich doesn't work. While flashing it says "no usb connection".

Just a addition to the thread you supplied...
If you have Hard SPL V7 installed, DON'T use SSPL.exe. SSPL = Soft SPL.
You already have Hard SPL installed. SSPL isn't as safe.
(I know theres this information later in the posts but if people are too keen to do this, they tend to brick their Hermes)

Thanks for the warning. Is saw in other threads that it is possible to go manual into bootloader and then you can flash any rom. I tried one but i think it was a rom for the kaiser, so now i'm searching for a dutch mw 6.1 rom for the hermes.

Ok question...
Is there much difference between the HERM200 and the HERM100 (which I have)? I have been trying to get HardSPL v7 flashed for the longest and I can't get it done to save my life. I'm stuck on 1.4, but can't get v7 on. I followed these steps and still no luck.
Any other ideas? Much appreciated.

You using the PC to format or an app on the Hermes? There was a bit of trouble with using the Hermes to format the sd card.
Just checkin, you go to bootloader after inserting the sd card, hold power, OK button above the flywheel and reset with stylus? Had people doing hard resets at one point because they didn't know the difference.
Ass you're trying to get Hard SPL on, are you running the SSPL.exe file from the Hermes or the sd card? It has to be transfered to the Hermes and ran from there, NOT the sd card, found this out the hard way too...
And it doesn't matter what case you use to rename, but MUST be hermimg.nbh, had a couple of people name it herming.nbh, WON'T work with any spelling mistakes...
Cheers...:D

1. SSPL.exe is on the phone.
2. Don't do a hard reset. Bootloader (tri-color screen) loads but then hangs. One time I let it sit for over an hour with no response.
I've been able to flash everything but this. Should I be flashing in progression? Currently I have 1.40 in the bootloader. Is there a version before v7 that I should try flashing first?

Did you run sspl.exe? It is an app...
Try this if you have XP on a PC - Untick "allow USB connections" on activesync on the PC. Put the Hermes into bootloader and attach to PC via USB. Run RUU_Wrapper.exe for Hard SPL. This may kickstart the flashing process if you can't get into the today screen to run sspl.exe.
Cheers....

Yeah. I ran the SSPL.exe with no luck.
I'm on Vista. I tried finding info on the ROM guide, but didn't see anything.
******EDIT******
I got it to work. The problem was in the I was formatting the SD card. I was telling the computer to format it as FAT with a file allocation of 32kb instead of telling it to format as FAT32 with an allocation of 4097 (or 4067 can't remember). All is well now.
Thanks, ultramag.
