This is a guide to install the lastest wm6.1 firmware available free to your Ipaq 500/510/502/514 etc.

Windows Mobile 6.1 Lite Version by Silix

Advantages:

Homescreen Panels
Fast and Lite version
Wifi Works!
SMS Threaded Mode
English and Russian
Internet Explorer updated
Resco Explorer as File Manager
Windows Player
Custom Load icon


Disadvantages:

Doesn't have bluetooth(could be add by using Tornato a2dp hack?)
No microsoft office(can be add later)
No Windows Live Messenger(can be add, see below)
It's not completly traslated to English(some Russian texts)



Guide

Read Carefully!
Download this files to your PC: SP38066 (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38066.exe), ROMUpdate.zip (http://uploading.com/files/48P8S437/ROMUpdate.zip.html), HP514-V1RCL.7z (http://uploading.com/files/NYH4EECY/HP514-V1RC1L.7z.html)(or Mirror 1 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=00DYL7M2))
Charge 100% your battery
Start SP38066.exe, continue until you see some files being extracted then when the HPRUU begins, cancel it.
Go to C/iPAQ/sp38066/ then extract there the contents of Test01.rar, it should replace some files there.
Start HPRUU.exe
Follow the process to install RUssian ROM
After sucessfull ROM upgrade, Extract the files of HP514V1RCL to the same directory, then replace the old .nbf file. Or erase the old one .nbf
Turn off your cellphone, then press left, down on the keypad while pressing the RED key to turn it on in bootloader mode.
Connect to the PC,Run HPRUU.exe again, it should install WM6.1 Lite version
It stops at 44%, make hardreset, if it cannot boot after reboot, you miss a step or something...


Add-ons:

CHome Update: Changes the default homescreen to fit the size of the screen, adds the wm6.1 boot image, and some little fixes, just run the .cab after installing WM6. HERE (http://uploading.com/files/MV7ZA7E5/LM WM6.1 Update.cab.html) is the link.
Chome Config Program: Utility to configurate the CHome homescreen, you can add or remove tabs, etc. Just unzip and run it.Here (http://uploading.com/files/B6JOV789/CHome Config.zip.html)

Contact Info/Buy full version
The full Wm6.1 ROM costs $10 and features bluetooth as the difference. You can download the ROM for free, but it will not boot up until you buy a key(that is device-specific). It must be paid through Yandex Money(a russian money system) that is very strange and nobody has a account there. lol There isn't great advantages from this ROM, and i hope the devs release it for free a new version, or the tools they used to create it.(our ipaqs are very old! they should give us a free ROM!)

I run Wifi, on BT I working yet, actually I see Bt in registry... but don't work yet. I working on it.

Hi there people,

This is great project. I am from Croatia and I would like to have my HP514 with wm6.1 in english.

Can you please tell me when we can expect final version of update?

I tryed to perform update using this guide but updater responded with SKU ID error (Sku id is ABB)

Hi, You must use HACK SKU http://uploading.com/files/TZST6JPD/Test01.rar.html , when You write this rom, You must hard reset, and when he start first time spent to 5 min, and the keys don't work but You must wait this 5 min ;)

OK, update wouldnt start with test01 Romupdate file. But I found Other roumupdate file (newer) on forum and run it with that file. Update run till 45 procent and then suddenly juped to finished.

After that i tryed to boot machine but it wont start.

Also, I tryed to run rom update again but update program says that it has problems comunicating with phone.....

On phone startup screen it says 2.05.00 0.76 (like before flash) and it doesnt move......

It realy works!!!

Forgot to hard reset phone.....

But some of icons and settings are in russian....

When can we expect full english version? With all neccesary apps?

You can try change name, the shortcuts in Windows\start menu ; And You can install resco explorer 2007 or my favorite Total Comander with reg plugin ;) and You can copy to windows "wrlsmgr.exe" <-- wirless manager ;)
And that's it the phone is english in 99% I work to run BT but not result, I search in reg keys. In this rom I not found few file BT, and few keys...

Thanks for the feedback, i just uploaded an small update that fixes the Homescreen Media panel, resizes to fit the phone screen(so is smaller lol) and fixes other things.. I wish we could get the final version, but the russian people who build it, neither they release the tools, nor a free update.

I'm working too, damian0429 about the bluetooth thing, but i think is impossible, as the files that managed bluetooth, have been modified to avoid being used, (I compared the file sizes with the ones of the original wm6 rom, the wm6.1 files are smaller) but i want to know if is possible to copy and replace this bluetooth .exes, and .dll's if they are in the ROM. Someone knows how? PM me if you found something

But, can someone who speaks russian contact people who did this hack and ask them how can we buy final version?

After all, this is rather old phone, maybe they could release this hack to public for free....

Could You send me Your homescreen? Maybe bluetooh is disable in radio this rom. And we coundn't turn on.

Use this HpRUU hack, just unzip this archive into the folder in said in the instructions. ROMUpdate (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=85357&d=1210513722)(taken from the Sku rom update hack thread)

The final version includes Bluetooth and WiFi working, but it's paid :)
