hi there,
i was looking for a new phone and got the at&t Samsung Jack. I understand that it is considered a smartphone and i though that as such, needs specific smartphone software. After searching the web for some applications it occurred to me that smartphone and windows mobile are somewhat the same thing. I am not sure though what the difference is. I know that i can install some software that i used for my kaiser but not all software. what do i have to look for and where is the best place to get my hands on some nice cabs?
thanks,
G

i understand. what i don't get is, what do i have to look for when it comes to software?! i have a bunch of cab's that worked on my kaiser but don't work on the jack. is that because one is the standard edition and the other one the professional edition? when i look for software, what do i need to look for? wm standard or smartphone apps?
thanks,
G

You have to look out for windows smartphone apps. Actually smartphone is a misnomer as the touch version of win mobile is also called a smartphone. However for software searching PPC means touch version and SMARTPHONE means nontouch version. Actually this happened with me also as I had no idea about the difference of software compatibility in SM and PPC. Now I have known that PPC platform is much wider, versatile with respect tl software availability. I hope this serves your purpose. If you love apps I think you may regret changing over to smartphone from PPC. Some PPC apps do get installed on smartphones but only a very few of them can be used satisfactorily mainly due to navigational problems. However most of the PPC apps donot get installed on smartphones.

thanks for the great info, it makes more sense to me now. i didn't really want to switch from ppc to sm. i was just sick of my kaiser. the touchscreen drove me nuts. i cant stand the way it works. i wish it would be as smooth as the apple. (don't get me wrong, i hate apple).
i looked at a few phones and decided to go without touchscreen. i bought the nokia e71 but wasn't a big fan of the menu and the symbian os. i think it looks more refreshing than the windows os but its too much work to even send out a text message...i probably didn't get to know it good enough though...
however, i don't need too many apps on my smartphone. just emails, calendar and tomtom if possible. i have a hard time finding a cab though for a tomtom version that works...
thanks,
G
p.s. what is a good site to download smartphone apps?

as well as not having touchscreens, smartphones generally dont need to be as high specced to get hte same speeds. this means they are cheaeper :) and in my experience tougher to break xD
