Hi all,

I haven't used my universal for about a year, so I'm a bit out the loop and need a bit of help. The old battery is dead (think was low % when flashed rom, and as a result only lasts for about 10 %).

I was following the guide on the wiki (thanks), and have subsequently bought a new battery to make life simple, and now I want to take good care of this one properly.

My problem arises is that I have lost my original mains charger, but instead have a nice little mains adapter to usb thing, (so its pretty much mains - usb port - usb cable - universal) ... Would this be the equivalent of "mains charging" as said is a better method of charging?

I only ask, as that when i try and charge the universal via this method, instead of a constant orange charge glow, it seems to flicker on and off, i.e. one second on orange, one second off orange, and if I have the screen on, the battery life is actually going DOWN ! (and goes from charging, to battery, charging to battery icons with the light)

... I unplugged it at this point, but then was wondering if that was part of the xda calculating the actual battery life, and although it was going down, it was as it realised there was now more capacity in the new battery? :S

(So i short is the alternating charging light on/off normal for mains charging?)

When i charge it via USB, its just a constant orange glow, and the charge symbol goes on and seems to be charging up, which at least means I have a method of charging the phone, however, the consensus seems to be prolonged use of only USB charging is bad? (Is there an explanation as to why about somewhere? :S)

Thanks for your time and help in the matter people :D

Hi I am new to universals but the problem is probably that the charger isnt good enough for the job the universal i just bought came with a new blackberry charger but it wont charge the universal it has an output of 5v 0.5a but the other charger from my bt phone works fine and that has an output of 5v 1A so as you can see it is double the output current.

Hope this helps

Yes, agree with Sleepy, the original charger is 1A.
