Welcome to the 3VOLUTION SERIES SmartPhone ROM Kitchen!
** Note: I have officially discontinued development on this ROM due to the age of the device and time constraints with other projects. Many good ROMS have been built and I appreciate the support from all my followers. I will continue some minor dev on the newer devices such as the HTC Maple (Dash 3G), etc. Cheers!
3VOLUTION SERIES of Smartphone ROMS will give all new life to our older devices. Outside of the smooth aesthetics, I Kept stability, scalability, flexibility, and speed in mind throughout the cooking process so you will not be disapointed!
When cooking, I focus primarily on the SmartPhone platform in an effort to optomize these great devices that are much overlooked. Feel free to post your comments or suggestions on making the ultimate SmartPhone ROM.

New 3VOLUTION Titanium layout for 3VO.2.80.092509!! See screenshots below. :)
I built this layout to accomodate for the limited vertical screen size on the Excalibur. Any suggestions or changes appreciated! Hope you guys like!
Thanks to all for bug testing! Thanks to all who have donated!
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b235/ookba/Screenshots-280.jpg
Tweaks and updates:
"3VO Original CHome Panels.cab" for those who want the OLD classic sliding panels. Keep inmind that the Titanium Home Screen Layout will NO LONGER WORK until you uninstall Original CHome Panels. (NOT REQUIRED ON 2.50)
"3VO Transparent Grey Panels.cab" for grey Titanium panels
"3VO Glowing Blue Panels.cab" for glowing blue Titanium panels
"3VO Glossy Beveled Bars.cab" for those who do not like the flat black taskbar and softkey bar (NOT REQUIRED ON 2.50)
"3VO HTC Sliding Panels 2.5.zip" brings back the look and feel of WM 6.1 and the SNAP. Includes HTC Weather! Keep inmind that the Titanium Home Screen Layout will still work in 2.50 when you use Titanium Toggler in Tools :).
"3VO Original Start Menu Icons.cab" replaces most of your start menu icons with original style WM 6.1 icons. This app is not removable so backup your \Windows\Start Menu folder if desired.
"3VO 2.50 XT9 Patch.cab" adds French language support as well as enables the contact "autocomplete" feature for contact search.
"3VO 2.50 WiFi Patch.cab" is only for those experiencing trouble with WiFi powering on. No need to run patch if you are not experiencing WiFi power on issues. For 2.50 ONLY!!
"3VO.2.50 Battery Patch.cab" help solve fast battery drain that some users are experiencing. Only use this patch if you are having a problem with battery as not all users are. For 2.50 ONLY!!
"3VO.2.80.Patch.1.1.cab" fixes certain issues in 2.80 including removing inactive shortcuts and adding Calling Card calling. For 2.80 ONLY!!
These were all tested ONLY on my 3VO ROMS. There is no guarantee that they will work on other phones and ROMS.

New 3VOLUTION series ROMS! I cooked up these ROMS based on the Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard Developer Tool Kit MS released the other day. The SYS is pretty different so I could only use some of the HTC SNAP OEM packages. Using SYS and XIP 21234 Standard. The new 3VOLUTION series of Smartphone ROMS will give all new life to our older devices. Give it a run and please report any bugs found.
hope you could cook one of these roms for the vox!..

Wi-Fi will not turn on/off in comm manager.
when going to settings-->connections-->USB to PC i get error: the control panel document pcconnection.cpl.xml cannot be loaded.
on a side note...... can we still not run OMAP clock keep so we dont have to overclock on every reboot?
and yes i do like this very much.

first impression is i like the new htc logo animation and the first slapsh. rom seems to be responsive. also on mine it loads the sms/mms when i start, is that just me or anyone else.
i can confirm that omap does not stay after restart, the wifi not turning on/off in comm manager, and the pcconnection.cpl.xml error.

Thanks. Yes, I have confirmed a few bugs so far:
* WiFi has problems, so does BT. I have to updatethe BT drivers. It is the same WifiInit.exe problem seen in other ROMS
* tmail.exe does start on startup. In WM6.5, it is integrated closely with the OS so it is set to start automatically. I will see if I can disable that.
* New IE is a little slow but usable
* Clear storage worked for me on my test phone
* edit: Will fix OMAPClockKeep.exe
Differences right now between WM6.1 and WM6.5 are minimal as it's a DEV kit and it has no fancy visual effects or any new panels, etc. However, this puts the platform on an actual device and adds the foundation for all WM6.5 features for developers to start tweaking!

sorry to keep posting. but im rampanlty looking for bugs and also fixes for the bugs. Yes bluetooth does take a dump sometimes when rebooting. and i think i may have found a way to keep the tmail from starting at startup
in registry go to \hklm\system\notifications\ and rename the folder InboxMobilizerEnrollment to InboxMobilizerEnrollment.bak ... I didnt want to completely remove the folder yet to see if there were any adverse effects, but it hasnt started up as of yet.

Goooooood find! I just found that as well. If it works and doesn't cause any device instabilities, I will remove it froom the build.
As for BT and Wifi, I will hopefully find a fix today.
Edit: tmail.exe launching found. Bootlauncher was the culprit.

Great job ookba!
Looks pretty good, if someone can figure out how to change the homescreen to use the titanium panels , so it looks like the ppc version of 6.5 , and all the bugs are taken care of, it might just become the final upgrade that we've been waiting for! :D

The version of Total Commander in your rom is missing the registry functions.
Could only get wifi to work by going under Comm Manager>Settings>WLAN Settings>... and selecting Connect (once network is there) or search for networks.

* OMAP Clock fixed

* tmail.exe (SMS/MMS) starting automatically fixed
* Sliding Panel topbar layout fixed
* Few GUI tweaks
* Reboot works
* Working on BT and Wifi problems

alright here are my impressions:
Connectivity (how well the phone holds a signal) is good, but not great.
It is about equal to every other rom but Energyrom. Different radio version?
Energyrom's connectivity is superior right now.
Rom is a bit slower, sometimes lags on one thing, does another and you wind up with a selection that you did not expect.
I can not find a way to get the comm manager to work either.
I would love to turn off the wifi (which for some reason the rom started with wifi 'on')
Other than those issues, I like it. It feels fresh and the new internet explorer is actually more usable and reliable than the old one (Unlike the failed attempt in Energyrom)
I love what you guys are doing. I never would have imagined that I would get this much enjoyment out of my T-mobile Dash
Thank you ookba and I also think that NRGZ28 deserves thanks from me as well because I love his energyrom.
I think that 3Volution has the biggest potential out of all the roms compatible with the Excalibur :)
Its is just a matter of tender loving care from here :)

Thanks for the awesome feedback! Yes, thr NRG ROMS are from another world! So awesome. I was running the 50709 release until the timebomb! :) Then I figured I'd try some cooking on my own... Fun stuff, takes LOTS of time!
Anyways, I found some info on how to "tap" into the new "Titanium" capabilities of WM6.5 Standard. I build a CPR and some Home layouts that I will include in the next release for testing (probably tomorrow).
Thanks to all for the bug testing and feedback!! You guys rock!

Haven't tried RC08 or before. I have always run RC09 and it's been stable on my "test drive" phone. Makes sense, I guess, since the SYS is so new, it might not support all the older software.
For speed, I recommend using OMAP Clock to overclock to a safe speed, say 240. Makes a HUGE diffrence. Use your judgement. I'm actually running 260+ and its FAAAAAAAAST!
As for Titanium. Yes, WM6.5 supports "Titanium" CPR files and instructions. I'm playing with some CPR files right now. I might put out a "test" layout in the next release. As for the other bugs, all have been fixed except BT. Still tackling that one. Enjoy!

I have yet to load your current original ROM, waiting for the update since many have pointed out the current bugs. When you upload the new one, hopefully soon :) , I will test the heck out of it for leaks, etc, as some of your fixes may have taken care of some issues.

My recommendation... dump an older exca rom like the brightpoint or the tmobile rom. Search for all bt*.dll files. Gather up in a folder. Make an OEM package out of them and drop them in your kitchen, making sure they overwrite the ones in the SYS. Build.. build.. build... :)

Installed new ROM, will test and post bugs!
I noticed when I install SmartTool kit (rc 08 or 09), that if you go to Control Panel > General > and set On Homescreen = SmartToolkit Start Menu, that when you are back on the homescreen and hit Start, it pops up the default Windows Mobile 'Recent Programs' page...but if you press All Programs on that screen, the SmartTool kits start menu then pops up? I just don't care for the right soft button Task settings...would rather just have the default contact, etc.
Is this fixable in the ROM, or just due to the program being a couple years old and unsupported?
Thanks!

Noticing some sort of issue w/ Java...I have only tried Opera Mini. Is this an older version of Esmertec Java (Jeodek Build ID: 20070425.1.1)? Opera Mini was not navigating correctly, screen resolution is flaky, and there is also no link to Java in the Start Menu.
**I am now also unable to access Internet Explorer (it just sits at the start menu, never tries to load)** Directly after doing a Clear Storage.

Java update:
I installed this Jbed 20080813.2.1- http://www.sharemobile.ro/file.php?id=242319
It fixed the Opera Mini display issue. I believe this is what we need (or an even newer version of Esmertec Jbed).

Might as well keep going :)
In messaging, is it normal to now see SMS/MMS as one option? And also creating a new SMS text is cumbersome in going to Menu > New > scroll down > SMS
I recall seeing this in a much older WM ROM, any change in this?

Great update!!!!
being using it for about 2 hours now and it seems the pretty stable. ( I'm using it with the blue titanium theme)
Haven't found any bug so far.
Just 2 things:
1. I do preffer the other version of the sms/mms (the one that looks like a chat window).
2. OmapClock doesn't works, at least it seems like. (overclocked to 240Mhz just after the flash and it moves the same as it would be at 186Mhz)
P.S.: My dash is my only -everyday use- phone, and I'll be keeping this ROM for a while. Thanks a lot!!!!

Opera mini is fixable. Its a font issue. As for IE, not sure why this is. I was just using it for about 20 mins straight following the Lakers game. Worked flawlessly. Maybe change your connection settings in IE to "The Internet" and uncheck "Automatically detect settings".

Yea sure, I can build a 96dpi version. Did you try the 1.6c CAB? Does it work on this ROM? Haha, I will have to try too. I'll build it in as an option eventually to switch from 131 to 96 and back. I have similar issues, ie
1. WiFi does not start, I must get into its settings and push connect.
2. IE does not start, just flashes
3. Java works, but as other users said is very old. Was using before 20081203 or 20090217 on Kavana and they were much better for operamini.
But I must thank you for your wonderful work.
All the rest of your ROM is great, stable, fast.

well after recreating what i did last night, this is the conclusion i came to.
i went to this lovely threat right here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512121
and downloaded the winmo 7 titanium project, and the titanium weather. (along with others, thoes are just the two i used last lol)
after i installed your panels i installed the winmo 7 titanium project then the icons didnt move to the right till i installed the titanium weather.
i tried just instaling the bliss theme without your panels and just got the icons to change (not to the right side of the screen, just the physical icons themselves) then i tried installing your panels and the titanium weather and got no where.
i dont know how this helps. maybe they all edit the file used for the titanium, if so i can extract mine for you to look at, just let me know.
on a side note, i found it interesting that last night when i installed the comm panel for titanium i was able to turn on wifi (from the panel) and it did detect wireless networks, could it be the comm manager in the rom that is the problem?

just notice that!! my bad!!
anyway, I found out a way to make wifi work....
just go to comm manager > settings > wlan settings > Wi-Fi > menu > turn on wi-fi.
it should turn on after that...
what I think is happening is that comm manager is not directly connected to the wi fi or something...

Enjoy!

Not sure what it is in the reg in the reboot process that's FUBAR-ing the settings, but in your version 1 vs version 2. I didn't experience this issue in version 1. While using smarttoolkit (RC09), if I use STK's reboot function, I don't get your shutdown screen. It just goes black and reboots. What's more alarming, if I made any changes to the phone, (for the exception of program installs) the setting reverts back after reboot. If I do standard reboot using the ROM's reboot function, then I get your shutdown screen and the settings take. Any ideas?

I can not see any detail in the registry. I only see the keys but neither values nor entries.
And: is there a possibilty to place a tool to change "z" and "y" so that I have less problems to write in german?

Haha! Weird. I wonder if SmartToolKit's reboot somehow just powers off and doesn't save any changes!? And the HTC Reboot actually does a "Soft Reset" and shutsdown properly... Kinda like a PC?? Whatever the case, I will see if there's an updated reboot app. As for SmartToolKit... Hmmmmmmm... Seems problematic for many. Perhaps something in WM6.5's SYS or instruction is different than WM6.1 causing it to freak? Do some more testing and let me know!? I will also...
Good find. :)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501390
btw is there something we could do for the main menu...
some honeycombing or custom icons, maybe custom background, same background as homescreen background ...(things like that)... that would be awesome.
thanx
oh and btw... you roooock dude!
Dude , this rom is still in diapers, and you're asking for designer themes ,and honeycomb start menu! All of it will happen eventually but , the bugs on the rom are a bit more important than those things.
Now to discuss a bit, I know that IE doesn't open, and there's a few bugs with other stuff , has anyone had an issue with the mms panel, it won't open for me. My wife sent me a pic and when I clicked to open it , it would just open the text messages, not the mms. I can't wait for the next release 'cause I'm getting impatient without internet on my phone. Is the rc09 of smarttoolkit working good with this rom?

If there is something you guys want to me to add to the ROM, please either attach it or provide me a link on where to get it easily. I'm busy enough here cookingup this ROM so I cant spend time surfing the web looking for apps. :) Grassyass!
Also, fyi, the Excalibur ROM only allow me to stuff so much into it before it says NO NO NO...

STK rc09 works just fine in this ROM. just the reboot function is a little wonky. I talked about the reboot behavior earlier in this thread. And to ookba. I unfortunately cannot post warez to some of the apps that have been requested but sites like "ipmart forums" and "pda4x" have these softwares.

you're work is extremely impressive and very appreciated!!
any chance you would be willing to add an alpha dialing cheet sheet on the dialing and in-call screens? this is a lifesaver with phone numbers such as 1-800-discover, or during a call when you have to input a name or such.
here's an example of what i mean:

The only problem i have is with jbed, because i only really use opera mini.

the only thing i'm having trouble with is getting my email [gmail, google apps] accounts to connect. the settings all seem correct, and seem to be exactly what i used with the energy rom until i reflashed today. could this be rom related, or maybe just google nonsense? the exchange email account is rock solid.

Firstly, thanks. I worked hard on this edition so hopefully the bugs will be slim. I set up Outlook/Exchange and my yahoo account with no problems. Have not tried gmail, will try. Sometimes, the "connection" settings in the actual POP/IMAP account need to be swapped to either "The Internet" or "WAP....." to work. Different for different network providers. Also make sure your internet connection settings are set up correctly as Connection Setup might make a mistake!?
I installed Opera Mini, Google Maps, and Youtube and ALL run flawlessly!!!! So awesome. I overclock my phone to 250-265MHz for performance. But again, that is up to you. After a few reboots and things in the ROM "settle", it starts to perform much better. Please continue testing!! Thanks!

Now two things, the mms panel doesn't work, text panel and media panel do, but not mms, and is the rom supposed to close any application when not touched for a certain amount of seconds? You open, lets say for example, the text messages, and if you look at it for like 8-10 seconds without touching it, it goes back to the homescreen! itb does the same with other stuff. is it supposed to do that? it's annoying :(

You guys have to run a newer version of Opera Mini. The regular one doesn't work as its meant for an OLDER operating system. Download and install this Opera Mini from this thread: You need the Opera Mini Small Fonts (QVGA).CAB (2.9MB) (http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=54f853f10b59c149efdcbec1e01a1809).

No, chome config doesn't work, ookba is pulling it from the next release :( we need to find a new editor software for the homescreen that works on 6.5. I know he's testing a ppc one to see if it works with the smartphone.
Now I don't know if it has to do with all the flashing and testing that I've done on the phone or if my stock battery finally went kapoot but, my phone turned off while in the middle of a call three times back to back, and my battery went from 100% charge to 34% charge in under 3 hrs.

Guys, here's the deal. We're running ROMS on a 5 year old device intended for a brand new device- one that has more memory and a MUCH faster, more efficient CPU. On the new Snap or Maple, Activesync, tmail, repllog, and all them services you fear most and say eat up your RAM will hardly even scratch the surface on those newer platforms. For those who do not sync with a server or with their PC much, I can probably remove activesync from starting but I am not sure what kind of effect it will have on the OS. Also, if you close it, you will notice that it doesn't really eat up a lot of memory, under 1MB. But sure, lets try it, I will see about removing it......... Go get a T-Mobile 3G (SNAP) on July 1 and you'll see what I'm talking about. :)
As for CHome config. It's meant for the regular Sliding Panels CPR files. WM6.5 is based on Titanium CPR files and I have yet to find an editor that will work on the SmartPhone platform. I will keep looking. Until then, I can manually add some panels but they won't be configurable. I am also working on a weather panel to test in the next release.
EDIT: If you want to be able to use CHome Config, revert back to the regular Sliding Panels by running the CAB I left in the \My Documents folder. Then, CHome Config _might_ work again. You can always uninstall it to return to Titanium. If anyone wants to take a stab at writing or porting a Titanium CPR Config app, go for it!!

Yes, this works! CHome Config doesn't extract the contact photos but otherwise it works fine after running the cab. Nicely done!!!!
And about ActiveSync, that doesn't bother me. I sync with Exchange so I assuemed that is why it pops up as running, no big deal. You can exclude it from the list in Celetask if I recall correctly if you do not want to see it.

Okay one more question Ookba, since you developed the 96dpi cab.
What sized wallpaper should I be using? 320x240 is the screen res correct? But when I set a wallpaper with those dimensions, I have a black line right above my smarttoolkit bar.
Edit: I actually figured it out on my own. It's the only real problem I've seen with the 96dpi cab, but even though the smarttoolkit bar is much smaller, the space it would normally consume is still reserved with a black space I suppose.

so far this rom has been very stable, the bugs i had were, bluetooth didnt work (solve with the pack) wifi disconect when you make a call, thats no really a issue if you have a data plan but if not it could be, i also had reboot problems, sometimes when i reboot the phone hangs in the htc logo.
it would be nice if the 3volucion panels layout come in different color like black, green, red.:)
Thanks for the amazing job

Hi,
well done again. But something i´d like to mention:
Is it possible to change the framecolour of the selected programm in the startmenu? It´s really difficult to see which application you have selected.
Any possibilty to seperate SMS & MMS?
Textnotes-programm is great for me, too.
Greets from Hamburg and sorry for my english.

It's growing on me too, I may be OK with it now ;)
I also experience some navigation issues w/ IE6 (difficult to move around and click on boxes, etc). But I use Opera Mini and Skyfire for the most part

alright, i dont know how everyone else feels but id like to see a titanium screen like this one here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508968
i like the slim panels of it, and i like how the clock is in the middle and not at the top, even when i press the red button it goes to the clock in the middle. id love to see a fave people & weather type panel, that functions right with titanium on the dash.
but i imagine thats a lot of work, and i know you got other things to do.
geeze, i might have to start pullin out the checkbook, if ya know what i mean ;)

I personally like it better without all the little lines between all the panels, like the other titanium themes for 6.5 floating around.

Install his 96dpi 1.6c, it works just fine, but the new one is just having some changes that better suit this ROM. But I've been using 96dpi since I flashed to this ROM and no complaints really.

Thanks to all for bug testing! WiFi and BT are now fixed and IE works flawlessly. I also fixed a Font issue and updated Java so Opera Mini works well as well. A few more bugs to work out. Look for the next release tomorrow.

the app for myfaves is gone but the service is still going, you just gotta edit them online. and if you need to send your dash back just reflash it to the orginal rom, which can be found on this forum

I've noticed that the Caller ID doesn't show the contact pictures, just the "generic" picture when you get a call.
I've also noticed the problem with IE where you could not select anything.

The same thing happen to me. I had to flash my stock ROM, make sure my battery was charged above 50%. Then I started over again with the SDA unlock and 3VO Flash. I finaly worked, but you'll need to hard-reset a couple times to work out all the "kinks". Having to use WM6 untill I had time to Flash the new ROM was hard on me. The Battery life sucks, and not being able to set it up like I wanted wasn't nice either. Charge your battery and try again. Follow the instructions this time.

I've found this ROM to be quite good!!! soo great job ookba. I found one glitch though. Whenever i get new email the phone tells me how many unread messages i have but i'm unable to actually see them in the messaging application as it always show the inbox as being empty. The only i can acess them is if i open the from with Home 2 or similar program. Oh and under 96dpi internet explorer refuses to open.

The ROM works great. Now that I got the new Opera Mini .cab I'm good. Sometimes I have to soft-reset and when I do it says no service so I have to soft reset again. A new CHome Configurator would be nice, I would like to create a CMyFaves panel.

You can terminate within celetask in the process windows, if you delete the entry in the registry then you're not able to go into the clock settings, the registry entry is
HKLM\Init\Launch107 Clockontop.exe
I would suggest not to remove this string

I did it, because I use Smart Toolkit as well but then I tried to go into the clock settings and cannot access until I recreate in the registry, try by yourself and you'll see

Hey Ookba! First off; great work. Microsoft's owes you. On your next version could you set the mms/text like WM6.1? In its current form I can't set my mms size limit to 1200k even though I did the reg. edit. I also can not reject all mms. Thank you for understanding.

i have this issue off and on as well. my only resolution so far is to change the settings on your screen timeout on ac and battery in settings-->power managament. Its not that what you have set is wrong, more of that the system forgets what your settings are, so change it to something else and reboot to see if that helps.
