So, a few questions.
2.18 OEM or 2.31?
Light rom? Full rom?
Manila 2.5? Manila 2.1? No manila?
Leo Dialer(2g)? Rhodium dialer(3g)?
Continue with the work on the white theme?
Keep the older themes pre-installed on the roms or remove them with the ability to install via cab?
Red Pill or Blue Pill?

Any suggestions? Comments? Applications or tweaks you have come across that could be of benefit to this rom?

Hi Shadowline,

That sounds great, looking forward to testdrive your new ROM's :D
I personally like Manila 2.1 because of the speed. 2.5 is a little heavy for our devices.
+ Rhodium dialer.
Other than that you know better than me whats best to use of base drivers and so on. :)

1.) Opera 10! ;)
2.) and I have one question: could you make a zoom bar support? It's mean, when I used X-Treme ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525012&highlight=x-treme) , here zoom bar is working for example in mails - when I slide on it, it moves more than one email message. It works in SMS, EMAIL, PHOTOS, WEATHER, CALENDAR.
It is faster, than when you have to slide it one by one. :)

thx;)

So in short, I will start anew. I will rebuild, and bring this rom to a new day. Start with the light of a new dawn, and bring in a new age.

A good decition. Alos some other cook's have problem with latest 23518 builts (no active sync, crashes, problems with SMS after backup, ...)

i actually prefer manila 2.5 for obvious feature reasons, however it seems there is a performance problem with manila messaging there... dunno if it's just a bug on manila side, or if it has to do with the cpu performance of the topaz.
so if manila 2.5 can get running fine (i remember in 23071 or so it was really responsive) fine, if not i guess it will have to be 2.1...

Greetz,

Flar

Thanks Flar, that poll was annoying.

Anyway, work continues on the new rom, I will be working on the base system and features and then ironing out the graphics later. So the first test rom may not be as pretty as usual and used mixed graphics, but I will be aiming for stability and speed.

And onto the poll, 71 responses so far.
I asked, full or lite? 83% of you want a full rom. While 3% of you like pancakes.
In question 3 I asked, what Manila do you like? 86% of you are saying you want 2.5.
4, Which dialer? 68% of you are asking for the rhodium dialer.
5, 62% of you want all themes to be preinstalled vs having to install which ones you want.
6, 55% of you like the WMWhite theme, while 30% of you think I am crazy.
7, An astounding 92% of you want to keep true to the 6.5.3 path.
8, 46% of you aren't bothered either way if a kitchen is released or not, while 41% of you want one.
9, 49% of you want a dual release with, and without manila.
and on 10, 48% of you had something on your mind. ;)

Keep in mind the polls will continue until the rom is released, so be sure to post your opinion before that happens if you want to have a feature or if you don't like a feature.

I'd humbly request one as close to stock as possible with Manilla 2.1, both 6.5 and 6.5.3 releases with voice command, swype,, ezinput, and the Leo canvas. Also, having the correct bands showing in the band selection menu of the phone, base 2.31 to fix the time zone issue and making sure that sms message intercept is not impaired, as it was on the Pure stock ROM.

Vetos and objections away!!!!

Hey SL, could you add this to the ROM:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4915388&postcount=7872

It's a bluetooth icon for the zoomed top bar. Right now it shows a blurry oversized version of the windows button logo, because it can't find the icon in the resource file.

Maybe this will work for the volume icon as well!

Oh and Opera 10 please! ;-)

Also the next appointment shown on the lockscreen is placed a bit from the bottom. Can it be aligned with the bottom properly?

Thanks!!

Nevermind, found the poll. And to answer the Opera question:

New build. :D It is only a test build, and therefor is not complete. But I ask you to test every feature you can before I continue onto the next stage. This is a build without manila.

Changes at this stage:
Revision 1 (now Outdated, see below)
Rebuilt kitchen and cleaned up a lot of tweaks and code. Made it easier to use for when the kitchen is released.
Tweaked for speed and stability.
Opera 10b2u
Still using the Leo dialer (will change this soon)
Oemdrivers 2.31
Leo 2.02 packages.
Application rotation should be working now for most if not all supported applications.

Uploaded: http://www.multiupload.com/ACAHZUI3BP

Revision 2
Fixed Connection Setup
Added ArkSwitch Task Manager, Tap in the open area of the top titlebar to open.
A little more tweaked than Rev1 for speed.

Revision 2 Now Available.

It means that the phone is about 20 seconds from self destructing. :D Actually I am not sure, green and orange are usually for charging, green is also wifi i believe (flashing) but orange, I do not know.

Anyway in review for those just joining us.

The rev 2 testing phase is going good. The system seems quite stable, but at this phase, manila is not included (to help siphon out bugs.)

In short rev 2 is a totally new rom, built with a new kitchen and new ingredients. No files except the themes are based on the old roms.
The kitchen has been cleaned and organized so that a kitchen release is also an option when done.

Rev 1 contained these changes:
Rebuilt kitchen, Removed and rebuilt all tweaks.

Opera 10b2u
Brand new LEO Dialer (May change)
New OemDrivers 2.31
Leo 2.02 packages.
WMWhite theme.
Tweaks for speed and stability.
All supported applications should now rotate properly via g-sensor.

Rev 2 contained these changes:
More speed tweaks.
Fixed Connection Setup bug from REV1
Added ArkSwitch Task manager. (you can now tap an empty spot in the tip titlebar to open the taskmanager)

Rev 3 Should contain these changes:
Fixed Java
Fixed bluetooth in comm manager.
Manila 2.5 if all tests are good.

Just installed the latest ROM and it's nice! Although I do miss Manila 2.5, but that will be fixed soon I see.

One other thing: I do like the white theme, but I'm not very fond of the round buttons. I loved the 'old' ones. Is there any chance to include those in the white theme?

Yes the lack of manila is just to make sure that everything else is working ok before adding in that power-memory-mind melting resource hog we all have learned to love. :D

On a side note, I wish I could do an animated theme... That would be awesome. :D

Some more suggestions:

- Make the settings icon in the start menu go directly to the WM settings instead of the HTC settings panel. The latter is already easily accessible through manila and linking to WM settings directly saves the extra clicks for the All Settings option in the manila menu.
- In fact, moving all links to HTC stuff in the start menu to a subfolder or removing them alltogether may be a good option, since we can get there faster with the manila slider bar.
- Use IE from the 28025 build, supposedly it's miles ahead of the 23518 version
- Include WiFi Router in Comm Manager
- Change the dropdown list selection color to match the theme. It's now plain blue, but there should be somewhat of a green hue to it, just like the menu item highlight graphic
- Make the bottom bar button highlight graphic a smooth gradient so that wide buttons don't show the stretched lines

Looking forward to the new rom!

Another thing I found: I was playing Solitaire and I noticed a little flash once in a while. After the flash, the top bar shows 'Internet Explorer' as the program name instead of 'Solitaire'. IE wasn't running at all and I was able to just continue my game. When I touched the screen, the text switched back to 'Solitaire'.

Is IE doing some strange things in the background?

Flip-Oh

Running nice and smooth and very speedy as well for about 15 mins now ;-)

One bug so far: When changing the date and using the HTC date picker, after pressing the Set button the screen changes to the Alarm settings screen, but with 'Time' as the title. Tabs are gone and there is no way to switch back to the date settings screen. When I close this screen, the start menu is shown again and when I check the date, it hasn't changed.

Workaround for now: don't use the date picker, but enter the date directly.

Let me know if you need screenshots or anything. Hope you can fix it!

Keep up you great work!

Hi, I've just tried using your rom on my Topaz TD2. I am very delighted to see lightning fast interface and overall "wow" factor.

However, right after i start syncing my contacts through Outlook via ActiveSync, HTC Sense will just hang and doesn't allow me to swtich any tabs or go anywhere. I have about 300+ contacts and i don't save them in my SIM card. Hence i usually "download" them off my address book which i stored on my PC.

I also tried Microsoft MyPhone service to sync my contacts back into the phone after i reflash your rom. Same situation. HTC Sense just hang and dropped dead right after all my contacts are loaded into the phone.

It was so stucked that i resort to reflashing the rom again.

I never experience any of such problems using other cooked roms, sadly except yours. But i hope to be able to use your rom again.. Thanks.

Btw, my all my contact cards are heavily extensive. Most of them contain the following:
Name, Home Address, Phone Numbers, Email Address, Business address, Birthdate, Notes, web URL

I am using Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Address Book for all my contact cards. Some of my contacts are coded with facebook scripts eg. <sn>id:123456789/friendof:100000987654321</sn> under the Notes section in the contact cards so that it can recognise and link to my facebook friends.

If you need additional info, i would be pleased to provide.

This bug is well known and was mentioned several times on the last pages. There is a Manila bug in that ROM that causes it to hang up when restoring contact favs. This and other stuff is why Shadowline is building a completely new ROM at the moment.

RTM??? They are calling it RTM??? It is not feature complete unless they ditched a lot of things. (A new phone and media player was supposed to make its way into 6.5.x/6.6, to bring it up to date with WM7 as the lower end series of WM)

I do see your point, but the fact that it is RTM'd just does not make sense. And if it is true. It makes me quite sad.

I do love what they have done so far, but I feel it is still not complete.

I do see your point, but the fact that it is RTM'd just does not make sense. And if it is true. It makes me quite sad.

I do love what they have done so far, but I feel it is still not complete.

actually i understand your point as well, and feel the same way.
apparently, build 23090 is RTM and is called 6.5.3
but apparently they are continuing to work on it...

People, relax.

23090 may be 6.5.3 RTM, but build 23518 is already 6.5.5 and MS is rumored to announce 6.6 in a couple of weeks.

So keep holding your breath for those extra features we still expect to emerge, I've got a feeling we'll be seeing them soon ;-)

I think, Shadowline should focus on the rom ITSELF (with manila), all this eye-candy is not important at the moment.

I hope we will have the latest stable ROM with newest manila first. :) Then everybody can add his own stuff to his phone.

It is not necessary to put all the colored crap into the rom. Not everybody likes what other thinks is cool or great.

Do you agree?

I agree completely, I've not tried Shadowlines ROM's yet but have followed his progress for a few months now waiting for the right 6.5.3 ROM to install. I think Shadowline should keep his ROM's clean, a clean ROM is likely to be more stable,

If want to add all that added fluff to your ROM then download the CABs and install them yourselves, it ain't hard!

I for one Shadowline hope you keep the new ROM clean and look forward to a good 6.5.3/6.6 ROM with Manilla 2.5 that I can install and use.

Keep up the good work on this! and the on the Android for Topaz too, really digg'n that too!

Do you mean the whole Manila 1922 Version or only when you use "landscape" mode?

How about the HTC SMS function? It's slow as the versions before? I'm using currently a ROM with 1921 Manlia and there all HTC app (versions without document tab) works like a charme - fast and stable - also SMS!

Keep up you good work, JD

@Shadowline

What are your plans for the rumoured official release of WinMo 6.5.3/6.6, do you already have it ;) ?
Is build 28090 doing the rounds yet?
Are you looking into cooking in the official LEO SMS bug fix? I did install it on my current Dutty Leo HG R0 ROM and it seems a little better (I can at least start typing a sms straight away), although I did end up getting a "-GSM" suffix added to the end of all my existing messages in thread view. HTC seems to have removed the bug fix update now which is a little concerning, perhaps the bug fix had some bugs of it's own that they thought to servre.

got some problems with the latest rom:
1/ the wifi tweak still doesnt work for hidden SSIDs.. i have to go to wireless options to connect (just enter this section and it logs itself..)
2/ the SMS notification doesnt work in sleep. i fixed that in registry though. but this is a problem i had even in earlier versions..
3/ SMS notification options have greyed-out the green flashing option. i would have that option set..
4/ the silent pickup doesnt work. on some earlier version it worked ok, on later one it silenced only vibration, now it doesnt work at all even when set..

also sometimes it happens that the screen is in vertical mode on incoming call, but theres nothing on the screen, only window and close buttons.. if i close it i can see the caller info..

now i got stuck when the weather tab loads (the top icon bar is active, the rest of the screen froze..

i'm trying other rom, will try the next release.. please have a look at these issues i like your rom the best, but these things are pain in the ass on everyday basis :)

What I think Microsoft's guys should do is hire some real designers and wise programmers whose coding is efficient and does exactly what it should do, and rewrite the whole Windows Mobile operating system and reinvent its name for finance and popularity's sake or keep the same name and make a TRUE promise that it's all changed for the better! And have some real bosses who can guide the whole building stage and prioritize everything in order to make good estimates of release dates and not break the promises and release late when everyone's already lost interest!

Why is it that apps for the iPhone and Android all have that same iPhone and Android sensations with all the animations that the OS uses? Everything is consistent there! Why is Windows (particularly Mobile) not consistent in all its ways? I'm sure there's a way to write codes to standardize all visual and functionality aspects of the OS that other parts of that OS or apps can use and have that same visual look to them...

I'm fed up of trying to hack Mac OS X Leopard to run on my PC just because it's much more stable and everything about the OS attracts you to it! And exactly the same goes to the iPhone OS and Android! Why can't Windows have that sense of attraction as well?

Microsoft, I'm sorry, but you need to let your loved designers (that you probably don't even pay) loose and find some professional designers!!! We still think we're in the 20th century because the majority of computer owners have Windows on them. Leave the old behind, O'Soft, and bring in the new and help us realise that we're actually in the 21st century! C'mon guys?!

i really hope they don't mess it up this time, windows mobile has its strengths and weaknesses, but clearly the interface is the biggest weakness.

Following issues I discovered until now, in 23518_REV3
- In case you select manual configuration, when adding the exchange server, the Domain can not entered.
- Explorer does NOT see the sd memory card! After closer looking at it seems, the data on the sd memory card are simple gone. The partition on the SD drive is simple gone. when I put the SD disk into the reader to my windows system it tells it needs to format. Strange

ok, just started and noticed a few things:
- on the first screen after flashing it says windows mobile 6.5.3, however on the screen after that it still says 6.5.1
- in the default white theme, the button graphic is a bit "dirty" when the button is pressed
- just started setting things up, now got back to the homescreen and got this error message "the file SetSysTimeZone cannot be opened. blabla..." actually i just restarted the phone and got that message again.
the rest seems smooth for now... will sync my stuff tomorrow, have to sleep now :)

The only problem I have with the ROM is the number pad button on the 'dial' screen. They overlap with each other which make things really unsightly...

A problem I had with the older ROM was that sometimes the number pad just wouldn't launch at all when I try to dial, will have to wait to see if this problem persists.

Otherwise the ROM seem great to me, might find some more minor bugs later, but I will post them as I find them.

PS I have no problems with file explorer with SD card, or finding my location, although it did take a while because it loaded for the first time.

- In case you select manual configuration, when adding the exchange server, the Domain can not entered.

With normal mail acount (option "other", IMAP) it works perfectly, so it seems to be exchange related.

- Explorer does NOT see the sd memory card! After closer looking at it seems, the data on the sd memory card are simple gone. The partition on the SD drive is simple gone. when I put the SD disk into the reader to my windows system it tells it needs to format. Strange
Had no problem with my SD card. Device found it and I already used programs and files stored on it.

I also had no problem with timezone, selected my city in clock menu and it was set to GMT+1 without any error. But I do NOT use HTC Location Service, so it may be related to that.

Battery lifetime seems to be good, lost about 20% in about 20h. A little more than rev.2 but that should be because of manila which missed in rev.2.

Only issue I had so far was a lockup while recharging. Recharged my phone with the outlet adapter, locked it and switched off the display. After some time, I wanted to unlock it but after switching on the display I were not able to move the slider. Had to softreset the device to make it work again.

Sense need lots of time to boot...

yeah, somehow it says "loading htc sense" all the time, you have to tap on the screen to make it actually show up.
has anyone had success with the windows live sync?
also, this timezone error message keeps bugging me... is there a way to fix that?

With normal mail acount (option "other", IMAP) it works perfectly, so it seems to be exchange related.

Had no problem with my SD card. Device found it and I already used programs and files stored on it.

I also had no problem with timezone, selected my city in clock menu and it was set to GMT+1 without any error. But I do NOT use HTC Location Service, so it may be related to that.

I have reformatted my SD drive and put the content back on, now it works as usual again. The Exchange connection I was able to make it work when using the Windows Configuration and not the Sence configuration dialog.

I seem to be finding all my problems with the dial screen... for some reason, there is a scroll bar present on the right side of the screen when I try to dial a number, which serves no purpose whatsoever...

In summary, my problems are:
odd number pad button in dial screen
scroll bar in dial screen

ok i have done a hard reset, deactivated htc sense, then installed windows live from the web instead of from the marketplace, and it worked fine this time.
i also re-enabled sense after syncing, and it seems to work better. i did not get that timezone error popup anymore.
however, htc sense really is a bit slow, especially on startup, but also the weather animations.
also, sometimes some unnecessary scrollbars appear.
apart from that, battery usage seems to be fine.
oh, and touch feedback does not work, e.g. the phone does not vibrate when you type.

I have a problem with the calendar. I imported my appointments with PIM Backup and now it does not disappear from the lock screen. The appointment was in the past (on monday to be exact) and I even deleted it from the calendar but it still pops up on the lock screen.

EDIT:
I just made a test run, I have no problems with messaging. I did a hard reset just after flashing (flashing, auto setup, hard reset, auto setup, use).

Slow manila startup and pointless scroll bar seems to be the biggest thing, I have just stopped restarting my phone so sense don't need to reboot.

I really need the top left shortcut to task manager to come back though, for some reason it just isn't working, I opened task manager this morning, and found that there were about 10 apps running in the background. Not that it slowed the phone down (which seems odd, not that I think about it), I just want to be able to view and close the apps as easily as possible.

The only problem I have with messaging is that space bars seems to be processed very slowly, so each time I press 'space' and I to wait for it to register, otherwise, the message would have been typed without space. I'm going to install a proprietary keyboard to see if that solved the problem.

Marandus

The taskmanager stuff works perfectly here. Just tap the top bar on the free space and it opens up.

I flashed my topaz from dutty 7.2 to 28014 shadowline, and it first worked okay i guess didnt really try it. i immidiatly installed MyPhone and updated it, got my contacts back and stuff, and since then Sense2.5 ui crashes.. soft reset, right after startup crash, cant even change tabs. hardreset, Sense2.5ui crash.

I cant seem to get rid of it.. going to reflash the phone i guess, maybe that works.

You need to disable the option "Hide protected system files" or sth like that in the folder options (extras -> folder options -> view (in WinXP,since Vista the options are located in the first menu (organize or sth like that))). The windows folder is marked as protected system file and hidden by default.

Will it definitely not work on TD2?? :( Is it because it won't natively support resistive screens or what? :/ Ok I'm thinking on saving up for a WP7 phone later this year or early next year. :D

Afaik it has several resons...the screen is one of them but also drivers (there is/will be no WM7 phone with hardware close to the TD2), hardware requirements (our TD2s are a bit slow for WM7) and so on...

It is 6.5.3, it just says 6.5.1 in the splash screen because it has not been updated.

Also the build linked in the first post is quite old, try searching the thread for "Revision 3" and you should find a post from Shadowline where he advertises the current Rev3 test build. It works quite good and is worth testing.

I have experienced an odd behaviour the last days. I answered a call, and after that the view was displaced to the right. The graphics were moved some pixels (guess 20-50) to the right and the cut area was placed in the free space on the left. I was only able to restore to normal by restarting the phone. Quite funny was the fact that the touch areas were normal, so I had to click left of the items I wanted to use. It is no HTC Sense error, the problem remained after switching to Windows Default home items.

EDIT: I'm using the Rev3.

Exactly the same problem here, just flashing now for the 3rd time but i really doubt it will work.

It freezes on 'View contact card', after restart it takes about 5s for manila to hang up.

Any ideas? :(
