Found this online store selling unlocked T8285:

http://www.eshoppingonlineltd.com/htc-touch-hd-pocket-pc-t8285-usa-3g-unlocked-41-p.asp

Does anyone have any experience buying phones from it? Or does it sound legit to you?

Many thanks,

Howiegu,

It's a scam-site. I've learned it the hard way that if it is too good to be true, it probably is.

There are no reviews on it, no reseller rating, and virtually nothing on the net about it despite their header at the top saying the following:

Serving Mobiles Phones Users and electronics enthusiasts for years!

Go elsewhere.

Cheers.

I think its a scam too if you look at the contact details the GM uses Hotmail not a company email which would be very easy to setup if your a so called internet business dont you think

I have an Amex card where each transaction has to be approved (get a call), and I can dispute any transaction up to 60 days after charges.

I have placed an order for Touch HD T8285 for $380.00 and paid extra overnight shipping. Emails over night have been answered quite promptly, and I was promised a shipment by Wednesday (in two days). Risk , for me, is low, and I will report in few days if I get the phone or not. If I will, I will keep updating you as soon as I get it (if I get it) where it is coming from etc.. IEMI will tell me a lot.

There are a lot of fake offers for $198-$400 that are scam. The main identifier of those is they ask for money gram or western union money transfer only. Thous are irreversible transactions, but on a US based credit card deal the buyer has the right to cancel the deal for many reasons. Amex are VERY good for the card holder. Another thing with a credit card charge- the seller has to be contacting a credit card company and can not use fake ID (well, it can be pulled but the risk for is high).

BTW- the seller has not charged my credit card yet (and did not ship yet).

Let's see. In the meantime, if someone has another touch HD that works 3G in the US and wants to sell, I am open to offers. I hope this is a legit deal, but if it is not- I still want one..

So have you received the phone?
I have already got one HD, but the price is pretty small.

OK, here is some info to have it answered:

1. Ordered a phone for $380 a week ago
2. Added $40 for over night shipping.
3. Gave an AMEX card details.
4. For a week I get back and forth with a guy on that end through his Hotmail address.
5. Today I got this email: "We have just been informed by our Merchant Account Department that our Merchant Account / Payment Gateway is currently down. However, you will have to send the money through Money Gram Or Western Union Money Transfer."

I never send money that way as it is a cash transaction, and irreversible one. So unless one is a fool, don't send your money EVER that way. Since the invention of PAYPAL there is absolutely no reason to buy or sell anything on the net other ways..

Is this a scam? I believe it is..

Ah yes, dear Mr. Chalut is a very busy guy, have to answer everyone himself being the GM and can not afford even a domain , using hotmail..

I have enjoyed the last turn it took today- A charge was made to my Amex card, but Amex were calling me 5 minutes after because their fraud system alerted them. That happens at the same time frame an email from poor Mr. Chalut stating his accounting system is down , asking for cash through Western Union...

So- nothing has been sent, and a trial to charge the credit card has been made, after I refused a money gram or Western union transaction.

As a side note - Amex has replaced my credit card immediately during my call with them, and I will have a new card at my door step by 7:00PM , free of charge. I am impressed by the service they offer !

So I am still looking for a good deal for a T8285. $750-$850 is more than i am willing to pay for a phone.. I'll have to wait until AT&T will offer the diamond2, I guess. Will be in the reasonable $300 and I will have to lock for 2 years.. Oh well, can't win it all.

Someone in an earlier thread is trying to sell their Touch HD, in the UK an as new in mint condition is probably worth £220-£240 ($350-$400). Maybe you two can work out a deal.

I enquired about the N97 and got a reply from Mr Chalut to say it was in stock and how many I wanted...this is definitely a scam but imagine the number of people who might fall for it..

Did they actually give you the address? They're probably just waiting for you to send them some money and then will begin ignoring you...

It was stated earlier, if it's too good to be true, the deal won't go through.
Good idea with the AMEX plan, btw!

I bought my Touch HD via expansys-usa with a contract from tmobile.
They are even offering it for less now than what I paid for it. DAMN THEM!!
Anyway, at what they are charging, if you were willing to leave AT&T you would only end up spending as little as $275 for the phone with an unlimited package plus whatever AT&T charges to cancel a line. It would probably put you at about $400.

Just reread and realized it was about the T8285. Expansys is selling the T8282

Hi All,

Thanks for the offers to buy, but all the ones you pointed out were either sold or the T8282 and not the T8285. As for dear Mr. Chalut, if you do some searching and use 'WhoIs' you will find out the dear guy has a fake address in Florida USA, another fake one in Bristol, not Birmingham, etc. and he will give you the address after you paid cash.. Try calling the phone on the website, and see who answers. There is a poor guy who hardly speaks English answering..

Moreover- I looked at both 'e-shopping online ltd' and 'online mega store' and they both are opened recently (April-June) and have interesting info. One site has a UK IP but a registrar in India, The other has an English contact but an IP in Canada, also the e-stores look good. Scam or not, there was a lot of effort in bringing it up, not like the Chinese $198 deals where they can't put one full sentence in English. I have contacted one place (emails) where they claimed to be in California. When i pushed hard and asked to buy 10 phones and asked if they have it in the US, i was told they are UK based and just vising for a show in San-Fransisco.. really funny.

Well, seems i have to wait a bit more. When AT&T will offer the diamond2 I will have to make a choice. Either have it with them, or hopefully at that time demand for T8285 will drop and the price will get down.

Lastly- i have VERY GOOD experience with www.networkingrus.com although they do not have the phone I need. i had bought from them at the time both the Eten G500 and later the HTC trinity. They are very honest, and have great tech support. they also answer questions instantly. I don't get a dime from them but it worth mentioning there are honest people still around.

Yeah right.

Put the address in www.maps.google.com and look for yourself
Address is 69 GREAT HAMPTON STREET, BIRMINGHAM, B18 6EW,UNITED KINGDOM.. All you need to do is locate all businesses in this address. Our dear GM isn't there..

Ask for C.O.D (cash on delivery) and an address.. let me guess- he will tell you they don't do C.O.D .

Then ask to have an address and a phone number that is not mobile. I already know it is a scam because as soon as I wrote him he can not charge my card he knew he got caught and never answered.
