At first: Sorry for stupid questions, I am new to the forum.
I am desperatly searching for a ROM-update to my 6915 (6.5?). Searching the forum, I was told that the device is originally called Sable. Following the link to this forum shows me a long list of ROMs for 6XXX devices or 9XXX devices. Is this compatible stuff? If somenone can guide me to the correct ROM, this would be very appreciated. And I need the magic combination of buttons to put my device in the correct boot-mode, because it has a different button layout than e.g. the 6xxx series...

the new 5.2 version seems to be quite good. at the beginning was a bit slow, but after restore all the apps from marketplace, update stuff and restore my sms and configs from myiphone now it looks pretty good!

You cannot install HP ROM via bluetooth - package from HP site flashes ROM and radio firmware, so it breaks the communication... Use USB cable, works perfectly.

coz the new 5.2 the pagepool only 4MB compare to 5.1 was 16MB.

anyway, you can make it to 16MB with kitchen from keyx. there you have a folder to make your own pagepool as you like so we don't have to bother Montecristo again. he is good enough to share his rom for us, so let's appreciate his work by donating $$$$$ :D

Don't bother with 6.1. Just call support, describe the problem (not working USB port - I had the same, it got removed from PCB), they will ask you to send old one to factory. Once they have confirmation that package arrived, they will send you new one, without examining ipaq.

You can also search on the forum how to extract OS only from HP firmware and flash ROM from SD card, the same way as Monte's build.

try tomtom. I can use it with 6.5 with ipaq 910... its work fine.

i would love it too... 16MB pp is quite a lot faster than the original... even if uses a bit more memory, it still a lot better

yeah version V4.4.1 seems to expire on 1/12/09...i got the same message this morning. The latest version is OK though.


Anyone know when this latest version will expire, so i dont get caught out with lost data again?

I've been using it 5.2 since this morning when, yes I woke up to a white screen with a warning and nothing else. I knew it was coming, totally forgot. Duuuuh

Added my normal complement of extra software and used it good and hard today (busy work day). E-mail(2 accounts, 1 POP, 1 imap), text messaging, phone, currency converter, unit converter, camera, HTC Home (cause I'm just used to it, whaddayawant?), news reader, XL docs, Word docs, calculator, PDF, and Skyfire(unless I'm forgetting anything), all got a work out(really busy workday). Loaded some other software but didn't use it yet. No problems at all, everything worked the way it is supposed to and did it pretty quick.

Although is more work I always redo all application installs and synch Contacts and Agenda with my Notebook every time I flash a new version.

I already have a folder on my Storage Card with all applications I want to install after the Flash. And re-synch with Outlook is very easy.

Latest findings. It doesnt reflect earphones when plugged in. Also, the speaker is rougly audible. Its audible with the standard ringtones. But mp3 types are soft.

v5.1 was once again a great job Montecristo! I am using my 914c intensively for business & pleasure and it has been rock solid so far.

A couple of days ago I installed 5.2-16MB and I too notice a fast battery drain. Also performance is sluggish compared to 5.1 while I am sure I installed the 16MB pagepool version.

Time to go back to enjoy 5.1 and keep an eye on this great thread.

just an issue ... not sure if it's just my device or if it's a bug ... but i haven't been able to get a lock on GPS with ANY software :S ... other than google maps gsm tower triangulation ...

i've tried garmin mobile xt, tomtom, mapking (which came bundled with my 912c) and route66 ... stood in an open spot, away from buildings under a clear sky ... not even 1 satellite was picked up :S ...

has anyone else encountered a similar issue?

Hi Montecristo, really formidable work on the WM6.5 rom!
I just want to ask if the screenshots from the first post are from last build of your rom and if it's possible to make two versions of the same rom, one finger friendly and other not finger friendly. Or at least should be an option to disable finger friendly interface.
Why I ask this?
Cause in some applications it's practically impossible to see all the options or buttons because they don't fit anymore on the display.
I'm currently using v2.9.1 of your rom which is not finger friendly and except few bugs in showing the icons in the menu and for folders and files, I'm very pleased how it's running.
I've tried one of the newer versions but I couldn't use all the programs like before with finger friendly interface and frankly, in my opinion, such a small display is not suitable for finger friendly operation, at least not all the programs.
Sorry if I disturb you with this post, it's just an opinion.

other than that i think i only convert more modules to file to further avoid memory slot overfill (however module has better performance since it does not need to be runtime memory relocated when executed but there are limited slots available depend on the nk target version (6.0/6.1/6.5)) to increase the chance that sip can be switched. anyway kitchen is available over my kitchen thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501822), someone better manage it since i doubt i would maintain it as i don't own a 91x

like i said i don't own 91x so i cannot give you exact answer. however ce-star is known to have a lot of issue i heard? you can always try & see. test 2 has the CHT wince.nls already so you only need to install font & input method for read/write chinese. my personal prefernce is studiokuma (http://www.studiokuma.com/wm/?section=support) chinese font & input . (msjh.cab & imeonly.cab)

The reason for using you image is because the WM65 image you made works with Microsoft Mobile Device Manager, and the original WM61 for my 914c from HP did not work with it.

I have been using the 4.x image for a while now with MS-MDM and decided to upgrade to your 5.3 image.
Enrolling to the domain works OK, but after a reboot the VPN to MS-MDM should start, but does not work anymore.
I also tried images version 5.1 and 5.2 but no succes with the VPN.

Did you remove something from your image causing the VPN not to function anymore?

I do not mean Winows Mobile Device Center which is the Vista/W7 version of ActieSync.
What I meant is Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager. This system gives the possiblibty to connect over a 3G network to the internet and connect VPN to a Corporate network.
MDM gives the possibilty to remotely wipe/block/policies to a WM61/WM65 device added to the database of MDM.

So my question remains, did some of the Microsoft Enterprise components like ipsec or vpn get removed from the later versions of your image? If so, could you get it back into the image?
The working image I worked with was 4.4.1, but that image was timerestricted, therefore not usable anymore.

on HTC devices, there is a .cab file available which could be used in conjunction with software like vito audio notes for example......

And have found some bugs.
1) I cann't see my contacts on phone which is on the SIM card. Cann't copy them to phone. Therefore, I cann't see them, I cann't call them. But I can send them an SMS, because when I write my contacts name I get their phone numbers from SIM card.

2)Here was time when I couldn't access my start menu. When I pushed start menu button on screen nothing happened. But soft reset helped.
(It is happening again, writing in this forum)

3) I miss close button in the upper right corner of the screen. It close the window, but not disable the program. It is still runing in the background.


But I like this OS more than 6.1.
Most of its look and feel. I have a good wallpaper for my chosen theme.

Hi Montecristo, I just wanted to tell you well done on a great and stable ROM for the 91x. I've sold my 914 today (don't need a QWERTY anymore), but your ROMs definitely gave the phone new life and potential. I flashed the phone with your version 5.2 before I sold it, and told the guy to come here if he needs any help.

I think you can go with 5.3 version..... spamas2008 has problem with 5.2.... I think 5.3 is working very well!!!

hi, guys, my understanding is, ROM 6.5 is designed for big screen, now we can see HP almost stop updating 914 series, that is the reason. Thanks Montecristo for sharing ROM 6.5 for us, so we can explore 6.5, but if you wanna use 6.5, I think you should accept some problems like battery, software conflict etc. :), you know, even Windows 7, there are many problems at the beginning.

by the way, I recharge battery once everyday, the battery can be recharged at least more than 10 thousands times, i guess you use 914 at most 1 thousands day, don't worry about battery. :)

I totally agree with kbcz95. WM6.5 is design for a newer PDA with large screen and more advance hardware. 914 series is over 2 years old and I can see HP already gave up.

well as I understand it, HP hasn't really supported the Ipaq 9xx since just after release, so that isn't so much an issue. The battery drain issues, again, from what I understand, have to do with MS's OS not being optimized for the Ipaq. So the question is can Monte do anything to help that. Monte has done great things, and given us great software we wouldn't have had otherwise, so beleive me there is no hard feelings. Monte, as I have told him several times is the MAN!. I was just asking if he could do anything about the battery life, if he can great, if not, such is the way life goes some times. I might have to roll back to an older ROM for battery life.

As it is, I use my phone alot. I use it for work, and I spend sometimes several hours a day on the phone, using phone and BT, and also 2 e-mail accounts updating at the quickest automatic frequency. Add to that, looking at files and sending or manually doing send/receive e-mail. Add to that, reading the news while I'm on the can. Then there's calculator, sometimes currency calculator. Text messages from the office and my wife. Etc, you get the idea, I use it alot.
I have 2 batteries, a standard and a extended life. I commonly run out of life on the standard by around lunchtime or a little after, and am getting low on the extended life battery by the time I get home. I used to be able to make it through the day most of the time on just the standard battery. Granted the standard battery is getting older, and isn't known to be very good, but still, it is a big difference since I changed ROMs, 5.2 started it, 5.3 seems to be even worse.
So if Montechristo CAN do anything I would just appreciate it, if not, well he has been very good to us already. It was just a request to see if he could.

That's not correct. The successor (with mobile 6.5) of the 914 will have the same form factor
I could not remember that HP ever updated any ROM. Normal procedure is to switch to the new model. That's business ;)

Has anyone problem with windows media player? I have blank screen, no remaining/gained time in mp3 playback, after launching, WMP stops at 'skins' configuration window saying 'no skins found'... Slide2play doesn't work either (it depends on WMP). Has anyone similar issue with 5.3?

I was using WM6.5 v4.8.1 and then i'd like to change it back to WM6.1. Later i downloaded ROM 1.01.01 from hp.com and did the instruction to downgrade it just as written in the note. But in middle of the progress, my lappy was shutdown automatically since it's running out of battery. Since that time, everytime i restart it's always start into "RUU..." and just stay there doesn't continue to the next screen. Everytime i run the program to run the ROM it's always hang in the middle (sometimes when written IFS, sometimes when installing WM6.1). Until the battery is running low and now more problem is even i have charged it for hours and i run the ROM application, when verification is done, it always give notification that my battery is still lower than 40%. So i can't run the ROM 1.01.01 from HP anymore, and the device still in "RUU..." mode.
And then i got this page and i download the flash.dio from the link you gave above. i try to flash just as the same as i did when i upgraded it to WM6.5 v4.8.1 but now it won't flash anymore, i've repeated for times but it's just like reset and get into "RUU..." and that's it.
i'm confusing right now and dun no what to do. Need kind advices from anyone of you desperately.

Actually I am satisfied with 5.3 and GPS works just fine. But, I use TomTom Navigator and Google maps only.

i am using windows 7 enterprise. i have a hp ipaq 914c and i install wm 6.5 . and now i have bluetooth problem with built 28011.5.5.0 .i can discover other devices and i can be discovered by onether devices. but not getting files from other devices .. in the same time , my notebook can discover and establish the bluetooth connection with my ipaq 914c but win 7 can't install the bluetoth driver.. ? meanwhile it is same for the others phones. by the way, i read some article about this issue and set my beam specification like "recieve all incming beams" . but still same. does'nt work.. is there any solution for this problem...?

I was using v5.1 (23085) and recently installed v5.2 (28011). I had the following problem in both versions:

I'm using iGO 8 as GPS program. If I reset iPAQ and start program it works without problem. But if I use some other programs (iexplorer, task manager, activesynch..) iGO doesn't start (I'm closing other programs with Task manager).. It might be some memory issue.. Any idea?

btw,

1. Battery Power, drops quicker, but the performance is worth it
2. The camera works a LOTTTT faster now!!!!! Don't know about 91x owners, but my camera took A long time to start and take pictures, now it is a lot faster!
3. GPS (tomtom) connected within 5 min..INDOORS, previously it took up to 10 min to connect outdoors....
4. When installing apps, the screen is messed up, (unable to see available storage)
5. I can't connect to my school's WPA, TKIP, PEAP network at all...
It just says connecting...then stops and goes back to the available network screen*edit, I think it is a hardware issue, calling hp tech tomorrow and see what they said (still under warranty!! :D)
6. Can't use Caligrapher and transciber been removed

I think it is due to the increase performance that changed the above 3 points, (unless the GPS and camera were modified), *edit: GPS back to slow, I guess it was just me not checking the time right the first time -.-

The network problem..not sure, I did have that problem with the original rom, but I was able to connect half the time, this time I only was able to connect once in two days while soft resetting a turning the wifi on and off -.-

edit: The taskbar thing is getting too annoying...it seriously affects the usability of many programs to the extent that even the HIGHLY improve performance and stability isn't enough to make the device useful :(, hopefully someone can give some insight on how to fix the taskbar interfering with programs...but it doesn't seem likely...

Oh well....Thank you for your work Montecristo, I had a fun time trying out an "new" OS and seeing how my $500 cellphone could actually perform lol

flashed my ROM over a week ago and so far montecristo's WM 6.5 seems to be working flawlessly.
My 910c is my 2nd Ipaq (have also an Hw6915) and I use it mainly for email (connected to company's exchange) and phone.

My review of this build:
1. call quality is greatly improved!
2. highly stable (no crashes compared to 6.1)
2. faster than 6.1
3. compatible with most of the SW (IGO 8 works perfectly)
4. works great with windows 7

Not sure if montecristo has any plans to build a future version but I will surely keep this one. haven't had any support from HP for 6.1 so I don't see any reason why I would replace this one :)

my 914c is stuck on the blue graphical Windows Phone screen (that one with ask for donation). Tried many times via SDloader but its same all the time. Buttons are active, bluetooth(or wifi) LED is blinking and there is one notification sound after each restart. But thats all, always only this screen.

Edit:
Ok, tried to put back original HP flash but instalator says i need more then 40% battery. After half a day in charger. SDloader stucks every time on SDloader bar with no progress. I think I have brick now, so thanks :D

now I have this weird but REALLY annoying problem,
For some reason, my start menu will random freeze when I try and star ta program, it just keeps displaying the annoying waiting sign...I can use the button to click ok and go to today screen, but I can't access the start menu anymore unless I reset my device...anyone else having this problem?

It's possible to make your device use any keyboard layout you want using the program AEKmap (google it, as I'm unable to post a hyperlink). You'll have to spend some time, however, to set AZERTY layout up. Follow the manual you find on the web-site. You can also find a sample layout for your HP at layouts section.

I tested my iPaq 910c with Montecristo ROM 5.3 on my Mercedes B180 handsfree Bluetooth system and it also did not work... :mad:

My Nokia N97 Mini works like a charm...:)

The bluetooth stack on Windows Mobile is one of the worst implementations... I have problems with all kind of bluetooth devices...

I try opening apps that use .NET CF and receive errors. Please see my attachment.

It will no working. You cannot boot from SDHC, beacouse it's not compatible for booting in this device. You have to take normal microSD 2gb or lower.
