Welcome to my kitchen!
Here's what's on the menu today... http://energy.wub.nu/Screens/MenuTools.png
This is an HTC Excalibur ROM, based on Windows Mobile 6.5. The current build number and date can be seen in the title of this thread. This will also work on the TMobile Dash (which is what's it's primarily setup for) and any other Excalibur variations.
I always build my ROMs with three main goals.
Eye candy.
Speed!
Smoothness, consistency and good esthetics.
I preconfigure a lot of things in my ROM, because when I flash it on my phone, I want it ready to go, how I'd want it. So, the ringtone, sms/email and other notifications are already set, as well as a background and key shortcuts.
I usually make 2 versions of the ROM. If you don't see one in the download directory, it either means I haven't uploaded it OR I'm not making one for the current release yet.
Here are the different versions and what they mean.
"IE6" includes the new IE6 browser
"IE5" includes the older IE5 browser (less RAM being used).

1. There is no interface to configure MMSC setting (had to do it via registry)
2. there is no default app for jpg viewing
Apart from this, seems very stable and fast.

Did you take out the VPN ?
If yes: do you have the Connection Setup Tool cab ? Then the original HTC cab is too old..

the jpg association can be fixed this way:
open resco explorer, find any .jpg file, choose "action\open with", click "always use this program to open this file type" checkbox, and then choose menu/browse. from list select pimg.exe (this is picture viewer). choose select (left soft key) and done, now the jpg file is opened as usual.

Once again you cooked up a very nice rom. Thanks for the tip on how to fix the .jpg association issue. I just found it when trying different things out and someone already posted the fix for it. :)
Anyway it does seem that the connection setup does use older data then what I had before. It has not caused a problem yet but just thought I would mention it.

Just found out, the long pressing of home key opens "All notes", and there is no way to record a voice dial for my contacts...
I understand there are people with no use for voice dial, but is there a cab out there to fix this?

Another workaround for the .JPG issue is install XNVIEW app.. it´s free and it´s not a big fat pig (when you think about resources)... Grab it here (http://www.xnviewpocket.org/).

Its called... Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 for smartphones. If and when you get it installed, In the voice command setup. for the voice button use App3.

Microsoft Voice Command works well only for English Speakers, as it does not require voice tags for contacts.
As nearly all my contacts have foreign names, it seems i need a different app.
Tried installing Cyberon speed voice dial 1.2, but there seems to be no way to add voice tags to contacts, so it always says there are no recorded tags.

I have set my pictures to open with HTC Album, which works ok, but it seems to be causing some other issues with MMS messages. I try to attach a picture and it does not want to insert it correctly into the MMS message. It just shows the preview icon and not the picture itself.

If you are using only voice tags, you have to go into your contacts . select the contact and using the right soft key, select, add voice tag

I had noted in the EVO thread, that I had been receiving 100% of my MMS messages on the EVO rom. With all other ROMs, I will receive MMS messages for a few hours, then I will not get anymore until I reboot. Given that these are both 6.5 rom's, what would be the difference in why I am not receiving MMS messages with NRG's rom after a few hours? I didn't do ANY configuring with the EVO rom, so just wondering if the initial network configuration that takes place has anything to do w/ it..?

The ROM looks very nice, thank you. IE6 does not seem to work well, probably because of inadequate memory. The hyperlinks on the pages do not get highlighted and hence cannot be navigated to.
I also noticed that the "Connection Setup" feature is not available.
Looks like the "Tweaks" Folder has the programs that used to be in the "My Tools" and "Accessories" folder on the 6.1 ROM?

Posted these questions in the last thread... Can anyone tell me if copying over the bronzeres.dll I'm currently using with 6.1 (which includes colored icons upper-left corner of the sliding panels) is possible to maintain the colored icons? Second, can I copy over my 6.1 CPR, or is it incompatible with 6.5? (I'd like to avoid having to edit the layout again) Also, does MiniWeather work on this ROM?
Thanks!

After some testing, I had no success.
Cyberon voice speed dialer 1.2 creates a "voice speed dial" in the start menu which, if launched, beeps as expected and reports no voice tags found, but does not enable adding voice tags to contacts - and the home button does not start it.
The 1.7.16 version enables adding voice tags, but has no use for them if using the home button or bt.

So far this ROM is excellent! Incredibly snappy and more RAM that I'm used to having free. :D
Does anyone know where to turn off the "Recent Programs" function of the Start Menu? I found it in the last ROM that I used but can't find it this time.
It's annoying to me because it changes all the time. I want my start menu to be as close to the last time every time so that I can develop muscle memory for applications. :)

I had previous flashes with different roms Kavana's, rose, energy (6.1 release) and everything went well with no problems at all. But a few days ago, I was so excited to test this new release and when I flashed the phone I came up with the frozen screen (“Starting Energy Rom”).
I’ve tried everything to resurrect my phone following the different steps posted in threads like: reflashing with the original roms, hard reset, changing to another PC running XP, bootloader etc but neither one of them works. My phone came with WM5 and definitely none of the roms posted work for my phone. I even contacted HTC and they told me that the hard reset must work, but it doesn’t. The phone stills with the frozen screen.
Is there another way to go? Or definitely I have to think in getting other phone?:(

Hi NGRZ28, yes I downloaded your very first ROM....and tried to go back and flash it to the original rom (but none of them worked since my original rom was WM5) so I can upgrade it again to your fixed ROM recently posted. What I'm facing here my friend is with the frozen screen that the only thing that I can do is to bootload to the 3 color screen. So, my question here if I download again and try to reflash, I won't get the "image corrupt file message" since the unlocker doesn't recognize my device connected to the PC in autobat run? Thanks in advance for your help in this one.

Hi, first post. First smartphone too (yesterday). wm5, wm6, wm6.1, wm6.5... I really like wm6.5 so far. That image corrupt thing? For me it was cuz I wasn't clicking on continue at the "jump" screen (on the phone). Phone was dark and I didn't see it. Anyway, subsequent loads have gone smoothly. I don't even feel the need to "unlock" every time cuz it just works.

If someone can help NOOB find or install opera (this ROM, need the long instructions) I would sure appreciate it. IE sux.
Easiest way I found is this, since the "install Opera" button in the "Tweaks" folder doesn't work.
1. Go to this link (http://www.opera.com/mini/download/generic/generic_advanced_midp_2/) on your PC and download the .jar file. (actually, you could probably go to it on the Dash, too, but it'd be a long type-in)
2. Copy the .jar to anywhere on your Dash. Personally, I have a folder on my SD card called "Install Files", where I keep installers.
3. Open up Java from the Phone's Start Menu.
4. Click 'Menu', select 'Install', then 'Local Files'.
5. Wait. The phone will search for .jar's on your device.
6. Select the one like "opera-mini-4.2blahblahblah" and press 'Go'.
After that and a few questions the phone will ask you, you will be done.
Note: In Opera, under Menu -> Tools -> Settings, un-check "Auto-complete address input", as there are some letters that don't get keymapped properly in Opera/Java. This will make the browser usable.

Bumping my post in the hopes that anyone can answer my questions... otherwise I'll find out firsthand tomorrow by trying it out myself. :)
Only one I can answer for you, Mini weather isn't working on 6.5. Leaves some crazy home screen issues that are just a bit different from how it turned out on energy 6.1. With any luck, NRG will find time to work on updating it for this ROM but the dude has more than enough coals in the fire as it is....I'm just glad he found the time to put this together :p

Even better as you really want the signed version "no asking do u want to connect"
On phone go to www.mini.opera.com
You will see the link don't click the link, click if this version fails to install "somethin like that" XD
Then choose the top download "multi-signed"
Follow the promps making sure to tick always allowed to connect on install.

If you got Miniweather on this, I wouldn't see anything else that could make this ROM any better. At least for my uses, that would knock this sucker out of the park. You're second round on this one fixed everything most of us need.

First off, as I sais before, this ROM is awesome.
I still just have this very serious MMS issue where it won't load images. If I open a picture and select to send it, I get a message about WM failing to open the file. If I create a new MMS in the Messaging app and insert a picture, it only shows a placeholder (and not the pic) and then never sends the MMS. I actually use MMS quite often and find this importan. Other than that, this ROM is great.
As for additions, that battery meter in the "Settings" panel would be a great addition (or a .cab posted for it), :). And also, I might just be missing something, but I can't seem to find the theme with the flat black 6.5 bottom bar (instead of the shiny texture one).

NRG... if you do get a lazy Sunday to work on MW... do you think you could release a version without the monitors as well? If not, it's cool... I can go through and edit the code if necessary. It would just be a convenience thing.

Well, I wasn't really using the widgets anyways, so that's not a biggie for me. I thought the IE thing had something to do with that. However, the MMS issue still remains. Does anybody else have this issue? It cannot load images into a new MMS message. These are regular pictures taken on the phone's camera.

an excellent rom ,
but is there any tweak to change the bold font of sliding panel ?
awilaman
22nd June 2009, 12:04 AM
The basic idea is to replace all occurences of "Bold" to "Normal" in the *.cpr file corresponding to the Sliding Panel homescreen. So there will be numerous alternative ways of doing this other than the instructions below. I have chosen the following procedure to make it accessible to even a non-technical Excalibur user.
(1) Change your current HomeScreen to a non-sliding panel home screen e.g. Windows Default
(2) Make a copy of the /Windows/SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr onto your computer
(3) Rename the original /Windows/SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr e.g. rename to /Windows/SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr_original
(4) Open the copied version of the *.cpr file in a text editor.
(5) Perform a "find and replace" operation to convert all occurences of "Bold" to "Normal". In WordPad this would be the menu options "Edit"->"Replace..." or Ctrl-H shortcut.
(6) Save the file.
(7) Copy the file back to Windows/SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr
(8) Change your current HomeScreen to SlidingPanel
You may be able to give your Excalibur a different look by changing the panel order and making CClock the middle panel (CHome Config). Try this out and see if you like it.

NRG you gotta change the bluetooth stack drivers man. After a few days of messing with it. The bluetooth stays connected to whatever after its connected, But the act of getting it to connect and disconnect is a problem. I have 3 devices. A Jabra BT620s headphones, A plantronics voyager 510S , and my ford focus car with microsoft's sync system in it. In all occasions, After the initial pairing, when i try to fire up the device to communicate with the phone i have to go into the bluetooth settings on my phone and exactly 3 times select the option to set as hands free until my 2 devices wiull communicate. My headsets and Car will not comunicate with the phone on ther own. I must make the phone interact first and it will not interact on its own. Secondly. If the device is connected to a device via bluetooth and you need to reboot your phone, You have to either make sure you disable bluetooth on your phone, or turn off the device your phone is connected to, Before the phone reboots, otherwise it will screw up the bluetooth function on the phone and even make other tasks difficult like opening applications or even just rebooting.
Maybe you can try the brightpoint bluetooth drivers we discussed about a few days ago.

Hey, NRG... very, very, very nice job.
This post is not meant to compare your job to the others, It´s just to compare your rom (that I´m using now) to the one I was using before, which was Kavana remade by Rickywatt. I know you are different people and the rom is different too (of course).
After using this rom for 6 days, I must say it´s the best so far for Excalibur.
However… nothing is perfect and I think I found some bugs and some strange behaviors. Also, I´m confused about some things, and I have a wish list…. I’ll number them… Let me get started by the goods…
Pros:
* Fast! (I mean.. considering how old our devices are. And it´s being kept current with WM6.5 – It´s wonderful)
* Stable!
* Connection setup works flawless (Start-Settings-Connections-GPRS-Autoconfig). As I said, I was using Kavana remade by Rickywatt and it never worked for me.
* It´s very pleasant to the eyes.
* Battery life is excellent, same as stock rom, or Rickywatt (I´m using the original standard battery).
* Your top bar is very beautiful… it´s very different from what exists so far.
* No problems with Activesync at all.
* Available free memory is a little bigger.
* Oxios Close Apps is not needed anymore!
* Wi-Fi works like a charm.
Cons:
* Opera mini font is too tiny… tried _Tahoma font, but it changed everything but the Opera. (this font had applied to the whole system, except Opera)
* There is a little delay (1 sec or less) when the phone is in standby mode and you press the center button until it shows the screen. It´s a little annoying… It has been noticed before by other guys here.
* Unable to play .MP4 files. (It was fixed by installing CorePlayer – as mentioned in the first post)
* Still no copy/paste… Vito copy paste does the job… again!
* No Notepad App, so I can´t read .PWI files anymore.
Confused:
* When I go to Start-Settings-XT9 settings, nothing happens… Why?
* Other than browsing the web, and some games (Kevtris) that updates it´s score through internet, when does a connection is required? I mean... now that I found out I have Internet without Wi-Fi, I’m concerned about how much it would cost to me. So I want to know which apps (from your rom, of course) require internet access.
* Is there a way to turn off Internet through mobile operator? I mean... if I want to use only Wi-Fi?
* As noticed in post #35 in page 4, if I press the ON/OFF button and choose Comm Manager, it’s different from going to the main screen and selecting wireless manager. Fortunately, I´m glad to know you´ll fix it in your next release! In the meantime, it can be fixed by goint into CHome Config > Setting > Wireless Page and change the Action URL to \Windows\CommManager.exe (Solution found in page 6 post #57 and #58).
* Can I change the clock on top to 24hour format?
* Jogger. How do I disable it, It’s annoying to have Jogger enabled because it controls in call volume, and it lowers the volume just by touching the jogger. And who doesn’t touch the jogger during a call? In jogger options, I have “system and in call volume”, “in call volume only” and there should have “system only”. Do you agree? Can it be fixed?
* Audio Manager. How can I control volume in audio manager? In previous versions, it was controlled by pressing the up/down button.
* Opera mini. When typing an address, the keyboard behaves as a standard keyboard phone, I mean you press 1 three times to get the “C” character... Press 2 two times to get “B” character… Weird.
Wish list:
* Foxit reader instead of Adobe Reader.
* Oxios Alarms.
* Excel X and Word X creating shortcuts.
* Notepad (So I can read .PWI files again).
* Portuguese Dictionary (XT9) – I found one by myself here - http://wmn79.4shared.com/ then go to XT9 Cab files folder (“Portuguese XT9 for Niki” worked for me)
* Portuguese-Brazilian keyboard layout (I´ve uploaded this file before in this thread)
So, as you can see, your rom is close to perfection. I´m loving it! Thank you for your hard work.
Regards.

- Dont know about Opera Mini... but if you find a solution, let me know :)
- The delay is a "feature" in the new Chome engine in 6.5. They were talking about doing in 6.1 (they did it with the clock panel only) but it seems now it's in there for good. I'll look into a reg key to turn it off, but I doubt it.... I think it's kinda cool myself.
- MP4 file problem is a bitch... I'll look into it some more...
- Did we ever have copy and paste ?!
- I'll include a notepad in the next release...
I noticed myself the XT9 settings dont work anymore. I'll look into it.
The Comm Manager links are wrong. I'll fix that...

Oxios Alarms is a very easy to install app... I don't see the need to bloat the rom with apps that not everyone will use. I think what you've included so far plus Notepad is a perfect starting point for anyone to customize from.

Yes, it would be nice to be able to edit the ROM, with respect to adding programs, applications, and more useful stuff for the intended user, and not intend to change or edit developer name.
And is there any way to delete Microsoft My Phone, MSN Money, MSN Weather for the ROM because i don't use any of those applications.

I think I found a serious bug. Maybe it has something to do with radio version.
I Live in Brasil, São Paulo, my mobile operator is Vivo, my Area Code is 11.
That said, let me tell you what's hapenning.
I keep getting SMS messages the whole day from NETWORK with the folowing content (without quotes):
"VIVO SP 11"
From 8 am until now (5 pm) I got exactly 73 SMS Messages with the content above.
I called my mobile operator's technical support that told me there were nothing wrong with their network. Incoming calls happens as usual, I can make phone calls too without any problem. No signal lost at all.
Anyone have any suggestion?
It happens also with 6.1 version of your ROM. NRG Rose Rom. It doesn't happen when I use Rickywyatt's WM6.1 ROM (that I was using before).

I don't think this should affect many people. But because of this i'm going to have to rethink the ROM, but over all this is the best looking ROM so far.
I have a problem when my "Up to Date" is running i can search things, but when i goto open up the file, it gets me ERROR message and crashes, it didn't happen with ROSE,..
i can't explain the issue, i think it may have something to do with the .NET files etc.

I got lucky yesterday... 53 messages only!
And today... I got so far (7:30 am to 9 am)... let me see.... 27 messages:D
So... is there something I could do to stop those empty messages other than give up your rom? To be honest, I wouldn´t like to. This rom is awesome.. but this messages are really annoying me.

First of all: definitely the best rom ever for the way I'm using my Dash on a daily basis :)
Just checked the downloads section again: apparently two versions (IE6 and IE5) were uploaded 1 day ago.
What is included in these versions that was not inciuded in the 2009/6/17 versions?
My deepest respect to ALL cooks still cooking for our "old" dash...
Take care,

NRGZ28,
Hey, im using your 6-20 ie5 release rom for regular use of now. Seems to be the most stable WM 6.5 rom. Phenominal work thanks!
Does this mean you will not be updating the rom anymore after the next release? moving on to something else?

Great job. I'll wait for you update. Over the past 3 months I converted 2 of my co-workers to the Dash with the looks and feel of you ROMs. I've loaded web pages faster then the G1 and I don't have the soft 3G data cap. I've gotten use to the sms/mms thing just as long as I can send mms I'm cool. Later.

I'm wrestling with the same notion myself. Although I like the "newness" of the Titanium layout, I don't think it's quite as efficient. Specifically, in the Titanium layout I cannot see my next *upcoming* calendar event without going to the calendar panel itself. Seems silly to mention, but it's a big deal to me.
All that said, I *do* like the WM6.5 ROMs, so I definitely want to stay in that camp! :)

Hi NRGZ28,
Any idea why BT cannot do data transfer? The only ROM that does it is Kavana's. The hardware is capable of it. So I guess it can be fixed with a registery tweak?
I need data transfer to use my Tomtom's Traffic option.

Good question - not sure definitively, but if you have a very slow IE and you can use the up/down buttons to zoom in and out of large pages with, it's probably IE6. If it's far snappier and you can't zoom in and out then it's probably IE5.

I feel the same way. The new layout is alright but some aspects bug me still, like the appointments and the missed calls. working in a factory from time to time I do not notice the phone vibrate or hear the ring. Anyway I do like this rom for the starting point and the ability to add only what need/want to it.

Thanks for a wonderful ROM NRGZ28.
I am quite impressed with the Build 061709 with IE6.
Actually, I installed Juggalo Official Flash Lite 3.1 and I am able to watch embedded Flash videos (Flash 9, I believe) from within IE 6.
The problem, however, is that IE6 does not have a mouse pointer, which makes it quite difficult to navigate.
I was wondering if anybody knows what the issue are or what component is missing. It appears that the Cavalier WM6.5 ROM by ookba has the mouse pointer / cursor working.
Any ideas?

I was able to delete MS Money, MS Weather, and the like widget using Resco explore. Just go into Windows\Start Menu and delete what you don't need. I am not sure how it would react with your phone, but for mine everything runs flawlessly. Also I noticed an increase in RAM after deleting those files.

This wouldn't really remove the programs itself... just the SHORTCUTS from the start menu. It should not affect at all the rest of the phone (not even the programs you deleted).
About the ROM itself...
FREAKING COOL! Perfect.
And it saves an unbelieveable amount of memory.
The top free memory I could get with other ROMs was around 15Mb.
Now I can get 25Mb of free memory on this one!
Amazing!
Working perfectly to me, and you can even use activeSync with google calendar (that I couldn't with < WM6.1!)

Changelog
June 17 2009 (current) :
- Vista sync settings updated
- Added USB to PC feature in Settings
- Changed keyboard driver to Tmobile driver (a shoudl be able to put the device in vibrate mode now)
- Added Resco Registry and FTP plugins (removed PHM Registry Editor)
- Fixed T9 issues
- Fixed Java shortcut, Java is back in now
- Widgets fixed
- Filesystem cache set to 0 for the OS to auto manage it. More RAM!
- Added Ricky's "extras" such as ET9 layout changed, default browser button changer, opera mini... etc
- Improved memory management.. even with IE6
June 16 2009:
- Initial Release
- Got rid of the ugly green old "windows mobile" logo at bootup.
- Added new color iconbar on the top screen with my icons. See screenshots
- Built on the latest 21812 release of the WM core for smartphone.
- Added Resco Explorer to the ROM. Removed Total Commander.
Notes:
- Playing .mp4 videos in Windows Media Player still wont show video. However you can play them with anything else, like Coreplayer, tcpmp, etc
- RAM SEEMS to be on the low side at around 20-21 megs free. This is probably due to IE6 being a big fat pig, and not really meant to be installed on a device with 64 megs of RAM. This is why I will also provide a version with IE5, shortly.

Some things I REALLY like about this ROM:
No green screen on startup. I'm not sure why I hate that thing so much...
No big gaudy/dorky icons on the panels. That big clock emblem to tell me I'm on the clock panel is redundant because the actual time is displayed already. Besides, those things make a nice phone look incredibly cheesy...
The program icons don't all look the same. It makes it easier to find programs when the icons are different colors and shapes. Eventually I'll figure out how to swap icons out but this is pretty damned good right out of the box.

Hey NRGZ28,
Big fan of your miniweather 1.0 especially due to it being implemented in script so I was able to customize it's features a little :)
Anyway, I am very happy with my current WM6.1 Dash, but would like to add some features that are in WM 6.5.
Your ROM includes the TOP feature I want - IE6. Yeah - it's a bit slow and takes up memory, but I need a local browser that can accurately display desktop webpages - I don't want to use a proxy browser like skyfire due to security issues.
So, I actually just purchased a Verizon Ozone (i.e. HTC Snap) and even though it is WM 6.1, it looks like it includes IE6. (I am returning the ozone because they want an extra $30/mo to allow BT/Wifi tethering ON TOP of the $30/mo for unlimited data!)
One thing I noticed about the IE6 in the ozone was that there is a mouse arrow/hand that the d-pad controls. You can see how it looks/operates in this little wmv video (4MB) I recorded:
http://www.omnisoft.com/downloads/missingIE6arrow.wmv
As you can see that arrow/hand helps tremendously in selecting links on a webpage.
But for some reason, there is no such arrow in the IE6 in your rom - so it makes it very difficult to accurately hilight desired links/hotspots. Not having this arrow also confuses users as to why when they click the d-pad left/right/up/down that they have to repeat the presses a few times before the screen starts scrolling in a new direction (theres a delay) - If the arrow was visible then they would see that these non-action clicks were really moving the arrow across the screen and the screen won't start to scroll until the arrow reaches it's limit in that direction, then it starts pushing/scrolling the page in that direction.
I am a programmer and one thing that I noticed that may help you get the arrow displaying is that if I use a screen capture app to capture the screen of IE6, it WONT capture the arrow - meaning that the arrow seems to be drawn using some other method that the screen capture app cant see.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could get the arrow working :) P.s. I made a little donation if that helps with the motivation to fix this issue ;)

I'll let NRG shed more light on this but from what I've learned in "chef" school, the older MMS doesn't seem to mix well with the newer SYS versions. I have tried both on my "daily driver" Dash and I found that having the newer SMS/MMS installed makes life much easier fromt he standpoint of messaging. Also, having SMS and MMS together gives you much more flexibility as both are threaded like SMS in the same conversations, which, is nice to have (and MMS comes up as a little icon link in the threaded conversation)... All comes down to preference I guess.

Hi NRGZ28. I have flashed to this 6.5EnergyROM after trying your 6.1.EnergyROM. I have found two "bugs" while using 6.5 ROM.
(1) With the WM6.1 version, I was able to enter the name of the recipient and then it would automatically show the names in my contacts. For example, if I enter Tom, then all the Toms in my contact would show up and I can then select it. This is no longer the case for WM6.5 version.
(2) I am unable to move an existing text message to the DRAFT, or any other folders whereas I could do that before with your 6.1EneregyROM.
Could you look into this? Thanks.

As far as I know this is only a problem when used in the NRG rom (i think the EVO/ookba rom already has a version of opera installed by default).

Not sure what the fix is with the cab file but I just dl'd the .jar or .jad file (can't remember which one off hand) and now use that, keep it on my sd card so I have it anytime I reflash, as long as the ROM has java...upload it and it works just fine....and this one does. :p

Yes, there is something wrong with the ROM. I was able to flash the earlier version, and it worked fine for me. After flashing this ROM, phone boot to starting EnergyROM then stall.

After flashing this latest ROM (the broken one) i CANNOT go back to a previous rom because my phone wont boot up. When i try to load from the SDcard, i get an invalid certificate message. Anybody have any ideas? Id like to just go back to the 620 NRG release. As of right now, phone is unusable.

You'll need to get into the bootloader by turning the phone off, then hold the camera button and the plug in the USB cable. A tri-colour screen should appear.
You can then flash your OFFICIAL carrier ROM only - there is a sticky with links on the forum and once that's up and running you can flash the previous NRG release.

Glad you got it working. I had the same problem with a different ROM a while back, almost had a heart attack! lol.
Anyway my phone was originally a BT Mobile one so had to find the BT firmware to flash which took a while to find, thought it would be dead forever! Fortunately found a copy and, well, the rest is history - made a few backup copies of it in case I ever need it again!

The only thing you can do is to load a stock ROM from the provider branded on your phone. Or if it's not branded in anyway, a stock HTC rom :)

My expectation is that people that decide to upgrade to unofficial/custom ROMs should read as much of the documentation as they can and also read the disclaimers.
In my eagerness to upgrade to NRGZ28's 2009/07/07 build, I didn't take the necessary precautions and ran into the same problem:
The boot process getting stuck at the "Starting EnergyROM" splash screen.
(1) The resolution that I tried took me back to downloading all the ROMs on the official ROMS sticky thread that matches my device (mine is T-Mobile branded)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381726
(2) Next, I turned my phone off.
(3) Then I restarted my phone and pushed the camera button. This brings up the tricolor screen.
(4) Then I connected my phone to my computer via a USB cable
(5)I ran the official ROM version for my device (T-Mobile Dash Software Update 1.22.531.8.exe was the one that finally worked) on my computer. I got this from the download link in posts 208 & 212 by crimson9292.
(6) I stepped through the RUU (ROM Upgrade Utility) wizard and started the upgrade process.
(7) And then I waited till the RUU told me that it was finished and it worked!!!
Now, if something didn't work, please identify what didn't work. I am assuming in most cases, the challenge is finding the appropriate official ROM.

I hope so. That's what I'm waiting to see. But while I was waiting for the MMS issue to be fixed the new 3VO ROM has now got a Titanium Configuator which allows you to create your own panels. If the MMS issue is fixed it will be a choice of a "snapper" EnergyROm vs. "everything you want from your Today screen" 3VOLUTION ROM. It is a great time to own a smartphone.

I haven't tried the 3evolution rom yet and quite honestly I dont plan on it. It just seems to convoluted for my tastes but if all else fails i will give it a try.
but I agree on the smartphone bit. to this day even tho its out dated i still tell ppl that the dash is the best phone I've ever own, I poured wax on it by accident and it still works. I can take it in the shower and get water in the key board and it works. i can drop it down stairs and it works, and windows mobile allows for soooo many different hacks and even game emulators to be put on it.

Perhaps Microsoft won't recognize new rom with previous update. Anyway, ActiveSync works great since I only sync Calendar.

You gotta follow the instructions. Now you must load your "factory" ROM, load the hacked bootloader and then load this ROM. All with a well charged battery. Then you can tell me if the MMS works.
