thanks for the trouble, would like to try but just to make sure:
when I start the customRUU program I get a question if I want to replace the existing ROM with the newer one, which of course I want. But it shows me the version of the main rom while I'm only flashing the new radio. So it asks if I want to replace the 1.39 version with the 3.44 version.
Is this normal and will only my radio be replaced or did something go wrong.....
I'm using the customRUU you posted......

OOps, back again with one more question:
Do I need to have the hard-spl installed on the phone first because the flashing will not work...?
After a few minutes I get an error and instructions to reset the phone by removing the battery. After that the phone works just fine but ofcourse no new radio!!

NO you don't need to reinstall.
But first you need to HARDSPL if I understand well from here.
1. HARDSPL it's easy.
2. RUN the new radio it's also easy.
Folow the steps and it's ok.
I made it my self tonight and I still have the applications instaled :)

If you are going to use the included custom RRU wrapper, and already have used the SD card install method to flash a different ROM, then delete the TOPAIMG.nbh from the root of the SD card before beginning, or else press volume down to cancel the auto flash of the custom rom again.

I'm using this with Shadowline's 6.5 WMBlue rom and the combination of the two are working great, battery drain seems to be similar to the stock ROM, 5:39 standby + 1 minue call + 1:24 usage and still showing 7 bars in the stock battery information screen. Not sure if its the radio, rom or the fact that he hasn't put a fancy battery meter in but this is the best 6.5 rom for battery so far for me.

It is the same procedure than upgrading a ROM.
You either use CustomRUU (see this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=492928)) or you upgrade with your SD card (see this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520494)).

Hi
My Topaz came with 3.44.25.27 radio, got only one bar inside the house. Tested with nokia phone got more than 50% signal.
It depends on how the signal meter is set, is half the signal strength on the Nokia really half the signal? Are you comparing like for like, i.e. 3G and 3G on the same mobile network?
What matters is does the Topaz work in the same places as the Nokia. I'd agree it was worse reception if the Nokia worked but the Topaz didn't at the same spot in your house on a like for like comparison, but just going by a visual graphic to decide which is has the best signal strength is not conclusive.
Regards
Phil
c_zal
27th June 2009, 06:15 PM
Phil, I know my test is not that conclusive that is why I use percentage as a reference. I know some maybe reluctant to admit that Htc radio isn't that good in low signal area. I did test on the same 3G network (the same sim card infact) and the nokia shows a better reception where as Diamond 2 shows only one bar with intermittent loss of signal. Proof enough for me....

I was running 3.43.25.19. I Upgraded to v3.45.25.22 last night, and at this stage it seems like there is an improvement in signal strength.
With 3.43.25.19 I would loose my 3G signal frequently. The phone would then go into a "limbo" state where it could not make or recieve calls.
Looks better at this point. No issue so far.

after one day of testing i can say that there is a much higher battery drain than with the 3.45.25.22 radio. it is getting really hot too by using the phone function. gps lag is also slightly higher. in 8 hours i got a 40% battery drop. in the same conditions with 3.45.25.22 i got only a 10% battery drop.

I'm suffering mysterious battery drain too - 80% down to 22% overnight.
This 3.46 radio seems the likely culprit, so I'll revert to v3.45.25.22 and see if battery life stabilises.

7th July 2009, 12:09 PM
sooo, i've been testing the 3.46 radio for the last 4 days and this is one weird radio rom...
if you're on 3G or using WiFi a lot and dont care about battery life, 3.46 is for you... reception on german 3g network (o2) has gone from 1 bar to 2 bars in areas with bad reception and from 3 to 4 bars in areas with good reception (speaking in numbers, downstream got up to 90KB/sec from 35KB/sec in areas with bad reception and up to 230KB/sec from 150KB/sec while on good reception)...
now for the downside, battery life is like *yuck*, got cut in half updating from 3.45 to 3.46, which means i got about 16 hours on standby (!), max 2 hours during a call, also GSM reception is kinda f'd, i get 3 or 4 bars nearly everywhere i go, but signal gets lost about every 15 mins, very annoying...
hope this helps ^^
ottoben
7th July 2009, 12:58 PM
The statements of MDGeist are exactly what I experienced with the german E-Plus network. E-Plus has a not so good G3 coverage in my city, so first I was happy because the phone stayed on G3 in areas where it didnīt before.
But then I experienced the battery drain (OMG!) and the strange GSM behaviour. So for me too itīs back to 3.45

I was changed my phone ROM to Topaz ESSentiaL v1.4 , and the Radio ROM to v3.46.25.18 and after that the GPS not works, not found any sattelite.
I tried to use the v3.45.25.22 radio version too, but the problem is the same.
Please help me!
Use another ROM. I have 3.46 and the GPS works. I use xtreme v4.

I'm suffering mysterious battery drain too - 80% down to 22% overnight.
This 3.46 radio seems the likely culprit, so I'll revert to v3.45.25.22 and see if battery life stabilises.
[EDIT] Nope, even on 3.45 I have one mega-ugly battery problem somewhere...100% to 11% this morning. :(
I am suffering with a similar issue. I installed udk wm 6.5 ROM and the 3.46 Radio ROM (from the stock Radio ROM), overnight my battery has gone from 100% down to 40%.
Switched to the 3.45 Radio and still just as bad.
Did you ever get to the bottom of it? Perhaps windows mobile 6.5 that's the problem? I have poor reception at home which a friend says maybe the issue.

I can tell you what worked for me:
1. Flash the radio (3.45!)
2. Flash the udK 6.5 ROM
3. Do a hard reset
4. Charge the phone (with the charger) to a full 100%
So in your case, since you flashed the Radio last, flash the ROM again and then continue with steps 3. and 4.
Hope this helps.

I think my problem may relate to the removal of Opera push internet using the cab from this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948) thread. I discovered my notifications queue had over 160 entries, most of which were "PushInternetScheduleTimeChanged". I deleted these and last night I survived with 89% charge remaining. Phone has been stable all day today too. :)

Hi 2 all!
I am using the radio 3.46.25 and noticed the following problem:
After dropping the call the reception gets lost for 1 or 2 seconds (you can see it at the icons - Just like when you set the phone into flight mode..)
After a short time the reception is back again. Anyone else noticed this phaenomen?

Hi Chris
Yes I have noticed this too. Seems to happen more in bad reception areas. I changed the phone settings to GSM as a temporary fix - it still has this problem but not as bad.
Yes it is annoying. I will try another radio version.

Depends on what ROM you had on your device :)
Maybe guess by reading the table on the WiKi (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Topaz_ROMs_Shipped). It shows the ROM's and their corresponding radios released.

I am some days now on the 3.46.25.18 Radio ROM here in Japan and I have to say its perfect for me. Best performance, no problem with battery and GPS works great.
Maybe the different Radio ROM's show different performance in different regions. 3.46.25.18 is best for me on 3G here in Japan

I would have to say I was expecting to reinstall the previous rom after so many people having trouble with the latest Radio Rom. But in my case its working great, longer battery life, good GPS and I'm using GPRS without any drops or troubles. Maybe it has to do with the windows rom you have installed
I'm using Topaz ESSential 1.4 *WM6.1 , I could be wrong but I'm just saying.
Thanks for the good work on this forum guys makes me love my T2 much more.

I am running the same TESS 1.4, with this latest radio rom, and its working shit.... dont know whats eating the battery, but it could be bad reception... I work in a bad reception area where signal only have 1-2 bars most of the time and no 3G (only gprs)....
before, I had stock rom and 1.44 radio, it was working about the same quality with longer battery life...
couldnt be bothered changing it back, so, I guess i just wait for the next one coming out...

Currently testing Topaz Essential 1.4 + Radio 3.46.25.18.
I've disabled TF3D and managed to get two days (at least 48 hours) of battery life.
Usage aprox.:
Calling - 60 minutes
SMS - 15
WiFi - 45 minutes
GPS - 45 minutes
This is good enough for me.

I have now tried all the roms (6.1 & 6.5) with the radio version 3.46.25.18 and It is still terrible.
It's broken as it just won't keep a lock on to a H signal constantly, every now and again it stop and search for a signal. This does not occur with any of the other radios so I hope they can fix the problem with a new version.
Until then it's back to the older version :(

Not only GSM, if you tap on Group sotkey you'll get many more info on 3G,GPRS,WCDMA etc.Anyway this test is only for the "phone" module. As far as I know there is not (yet?) a full comprehensive radio test/benchmark app around..nice idea for a goodwilling programmer here:rolleyes:
Until we find it, I suggest you to use specific apps for each module of the radio you want to test. Here's what I use :
-GPS-->HTC GPS Tools (you can reset gps memory and see how much time it takes to get a warm start)
-Wifi-->Wififofum2 (get signal strenght, but many other apps do the same)
Phone-->this app
Then you could rate each test and make an average score

For update radio:
1. be sure your antivirus it's disable.
2. I'm not sure but you need to HARD-SPL your phone until modify something in it, to flash ROM or dadio.

My impressions about last radio rom (4.47.25.13) ;
After 48 hours of usage; 4.47.25.01 is better than 4.47.25.13 in every aspect...
4.47.25.13 lose signal in poor reception area frequently.. :(
Still waiting a good radio rom..

Unfortunetly the same for me... This new rom lose the signal to much in some poor reception places, even if globaly the reception seems a little better than with the 4.45 ...
This last rom is not "the one".
I will wait again, but time is very long to solve the only problem I really have with this phone...

* General comments : ''7'' on 0 to 10 scale, only battery life is good, talk time 1h,54min = 24% procent from batery (better than 4.47.25.01 but in the same place is switching beetwen 3g and edge), 10 mb traffic on 3g/edge, gps with igo 8 for 30 min = aprox 20% from battery, some minore use, now i'm with 20% from bat after 48 h.
* Conclussion : i will switch back to 4.47.25.01 radio who get '' 8 '' :D

Hi
I've found 4.47.25.21 worse than other radios as it keeps switching to 2G where version 3s are quite happy with 1 or 2 bars on 3G.
We are never told where these radios come from. Are the version 4's even for the Topaz? If they are they may be designed for a specific mobile operator or targeted for a specific country and will not work optimally elsewhere.
We just accept the higher version number must be better, but that isn't always the case.
It's great having access to these new radios and it's great the community finds them, but what never is specified is exactly where they have come from. For all we know someone is just opening the files with a HEX editor and changing the version number.

Phil

My first impression about this radio is not the same as u said. For 3g and wireless i found the same usage like older radios. No 3g switching to 2g at my home where ussualy i have 1 or 2 bars 3g. The same signal strength on wi-fi, more battery saving. But is just a first impression. I will test this radio more.

Is it recommended to use Radio ROM versions 4.xx.xx.xx on stock ROM with WinMob 6.1?

It's not correct.
Only you with your device can choose the best radio for yourself :)
The quality of radio depends on:
1. Mobile Operator
2. region
3. sometimes, ROM, where it is to fix a specific version of the radio

While testing ROM's I had for a short time a stock ROM running with this Radio version. No problems. But I did not really test, just saw that the phone connected to network and I got my push emails. Stock ROM was WWE 1.39.705.3 version.

no issues with udK R6 and 4.47.25.21 of the radio. Battery life has never been great, I just charge it daily anyway. Comparing 4.47.25.13 and .21 versions - there doesnt seem much difference

Hey everybody,
been using radio 4.47.25.21 for 24hours, had the stock radio before (O2 Germany), and cant say anything about battery life, still same?. reception seems to be a tad better. gps is ok, I guess..
so what I ask myself: do the radio versions have any major compatibility issues with different rom versions? or can I stick to the newest radio, and as long as it doesnt act weird, use it with any rom?
any experiences so far, other than radio .21 with udk 6.5 (what some people considered a good combo)?

running radio 4.47.25.21 since a few days now without problems. Reception is fine, GPS is very fast and battery lasts at least a day (depending on how often I got lost and need to use GPS :-)
Provider: T-Mobile Germany
Rom: UDK R6

Whatever ROM I have, I try the newest Radio. And if I think its better, I stick with it. Didn't see any relation between cooked ROM's and the Radio ROM's.
I think the performance of a new Radio is more depending on the region you are.
But that's just my 2 cent. I might be complete wrong.

No cooked ROMs for the Topaz, which includes fixes to the radio today.
Thus, have an impact on radio only your mobile operator and the region.
Checked in Europe :)
