Hi Tomal thnks for this new rom :)

The first thing, not important, is the version number of the rom is 8.9 in the startup screen

The today screen freezes a lot

dciBattery is in Russian or whatever :)

I'll continue testing, and try to take out the today screen to see the behaviour

But for what I saw this today screen is very good in terms of features, but too heavy.. :'(

Hi Tomal thnks for this new rom :)

But for what I saw this today screen is very good in terms of features, but too heavy.. :'(
I'm reorganizing the whole bunch of pkg's for WM6.5 and some pkg may not work as expected at this stage. Importantly, I'll discover them during beta test and it will then help to improve the stability.

thanx for the feedback

The Wktask feature like open windows in the menu i think is very important and brightness and reset control too

We don't have interactive buttons in the menu.. the sound/network bluetooth etc don't respond.

Bluetooth is working for me

Up/down button isn't changing sound volume anymore, is used for navigation, but in wmp is changing the volume :? - We don't have any master button to control the volume

Having problems with activesync - i'll post later

I can't find the option menu that enable us to choose the type of network, if we want just 3g or not. I had to change this settings in the paste to get network in low network available sites.

Thanks for your work Tomal.

For those who want to know, ram is 14.5Mb

so far..
All cab installs have been unsuccessful.

In sounds and notifications, cannot "ok" to apply settings (screen freezes).
In phone settings, after selecting ringtone get error, "ringtone corrupt, choose another" (selecting ringtone through file explorer works)

no volume control

cannot set up Windows Live, error "failed to establish an internet connection"

cannot activate wm5torage, error "can't switch to mass storage USB driver error 1f.."

getting lots of freezes and have to SR a lot. Got the smeared screen mentioned above. ram had dropped to 7Mb with nothing running. A 64mb Uni is going to have problems running this. Pity. It looks great and when it is running it is nice.

But..its a beta...who knows what Tomal will be able to do?:D

Ok, you've won me over... am now testing this ROM.
First impressions... love it!
I have a few problems, one of them isn't installing cabs. I will report some more later when I have time - as for now it's going to get a real road test!

26th June 2009, 10:07 PM
But you can try the cab for HTCUSBtoPC POPUP1.18 diamond sometimes it works to make your SD to mass storage...

nice to see that you try to get 6.5 on uni.

27th June 2009, 06:10 AM
I'm sure that you'll have tons of problems with the build and it is not unexpected. But it then helps me to identify the programs about who is causing such behavior.

Thanks for reporting.

-Jonny-
27th June 2009, 11:28 AM
Ok, here's my initial report.

Firstly, it's a great ßeta... thanks Tomal.

The grey background to text is nice idea, but it isn't compatible with all dialogs (see screen shot)
Top bar buttons don't respond (eg G button; volume button)
No Flash Disk
No ExtendedROM Storage
Slows down at times (I'm using PagePool at FFFF)
Undecided about volume control being used as jog button. Nice thought, but I usually use finger on screen more than the buttons.
Sometimes suddenly programs close down (certainly ones running in background, and sometimes even the one I'm using!)
Prefer the Rhodium Comm Manager (you can click on each panel to go to settings, as well as pressing switch on/off for each panel - see screen shot)
I had to install NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm.cab to get reStart and CHome Editor to work.. why? (I thought .NET 3.7 was fully installed)
I like the finger-friendly menu's, but is there a way of making the rows closer together?
Working ok: fring, BT pairing; Route66
Not working: iGo8
Again, I prefer 4-column start with honeycomb (see screen shot)

A solution to 'cabs wont install'
First remove CHome screen
in Settings\Today\Items untick 'windows default'
Now you should be able to install!

Tomal, if we support you by donating so you can buy a new device, then you'll not be developing for Uni any more... a bit like shooting myself in the foot!!

Tomal, if we support you by donating so you can buy a new device, then you'll not be developing for Uni any more... a bit like shooting myself in the foot!!
My uni is half way to meet her earlier friend! Replacement of the whole LCD is not worth from my point of view and that is actually forcing me to buy a new device as fast as possible. But I'm not leaving Uni some time soon...unless..until she leaves me herself.

Well, it may happen that you need to shoot your foot by any means...isn't it good enough to have some practice in advance...?! ;);)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsa/n5ctrl/tvseq/news_ost/bb/wm/video/news1_bb.asx?ad=1&ct=50
Problems with grey background to text. I use 'Ron Arad orange' today theme (supplied)
No Flash Disk

Here is my answer:

Flashlite has been removed in B2 as it is consuming nearly 800k memory. I think it is not worthy for 64mb devices. But I'm not sure if BBC news is based on flash video.
I can't reproduce the problem in the default theme. Seems it is theme specific problem.
WM65 consumed a lot space from the rom and there is not much left. There will be no FD for WM65 build (at least in my build).
ExtRom just set to hidden. Open AdvConf and make it visible if you want it.
PhoneSetting applet in Uni is not compatible with the latest Com manager. Besides, rilgsm using a different registry than latest com manager actually writes. That's the reason I'm still stick to the earlier one.
Cheers

Ok, I thought I'd try and get Flashlite from your B1, but when I try to Dump XIP I get 'ERROR: No XIP section Found!'. Am I doing something wrong in kitchen? :confused:I can't reproduce the problem in the default theme. Seems it is theme specific problem.
It is a theme supplied in the ROM called 'Ron Arad orange'
WM65 consumed a lot space from the rom and there is not much left. There will be no FD for WM65 build (at least in my build).
That's fine, it was the Storage I wanted the most (for IECache)
ExtRom just set to hidden. Open AdvConf and make it visible if you want it.
Thanks, I should have tried that first :o

It was working on xplode's ROM, which is where I found out about it. I can't get the ROM to dump into neat packages when I dump it... but it does dump!
Thank you Tomal not only for excellent ROM's, but also for all the support you give everybody with them. :)

Same problems as jonny with sounds and notifications. Still having to SR a lot.

Taking the CHome plugin off the today screen helps. it uses almost 3mb of ram to run it.:( pity it was really nice.

strange icon issue can't be resolved in this build since it is a bug in the shell. but it is just a cosmetic issue.

Working well:
Settings\sound & notifications\notifications are fully working
Fixed problems with grey background to text (when using other themes, such as 'Ron Arad orange' today theme)
Nice 3-d black phone buttons (Screen02.jpg)

Problems:
Having a bit of trouble connecting BT device (GPS). It eventually connected after disappearing a couple of times. Working ok with iGo8, but can't get Route66 to connect to it still (in fact, I can't get Route66 to run!).

I don't have the off-freeze. Perhaps this is a 64MB issue.

My icons don't appear on the Start Menu for those that are on my SD card (I know I can get around this by using png's on the main card, but they used to show ok). I have tried changing PNP unload and wait I/O delay to no avail (Screen01.jpg)

edit: PC reboot resolved the following reported problem:
Hmm, now ActiveSync won't start when I connect the Uni via USB. MyMobiler is running ok, but cannot Sync anymore.
Going to reboot my PC and try ActiveSync again.

Great!!! But another thing... i don't know why but can't run 2 applications (TCPMP and PocketUno) at the same time with around 20mb free of ram and in luca's rom is possible.
There is a problem with pagepool, some cache or similar?

thx!!!!

I expect Tomal will use same base for 128MB version - best thing to do is change pagePool for now and do some beta testing on this ROM

Only change the pagepool? No problem i can do this.

Please confirm: this is the only operation to use all 128MB?

Couriosly all applications may not response and doesn't open including msft apps!!! After a softreset also!!!

need to do a hard reset.... after that try to run WMP and PocketUno and i've see that WMP consumes about 1~2mb only!!!!!! and 2 applications runs fine and left 16mb free of ram :o

Only quits Titanium and memory stay at 19~20mb!!!!! Great improvement for windows mobile 6.5!!!!

i'm waiting for the next release that fix (power-of-freeze no xD, power-off-freeze) problem and graphics glitches if possible...

Other things that i've see is that in StartMenu in landscape mode only shows 3 columns instead of 4 or 6...

Also if you want can translate your releases to spanish or provide you the necesary to do yourself ;)

Could some explain me what are the benefits of wm65? What are the improvements relative to wm61?
I didn't see many, only the new style of start menu.
I only see the disadvantages: slower, needs more ram (on UNI64 it's critically)

There's somewhere a list about the changes? Maybe at microsoft.com?

handsfree sounds great to me!

Thanks Tomal, ß4 is looking great and responding well. We now get 5 columns start on landscape mode... nice!

We have application launcher in CHome... Have you thought of integrating reStart, favepeople and titaniumweather into the ROM?

Also I'm not fan of the TaskMenu. You have to go to home screen to task-switch. (I know, I just disable it and load QuickMenu).

Still testing, but haven;t come accross any show stoppers. About time to make it a proper release?!

18 MB on startup.Great.

A very simple question to Tomal and other developers...

What exactly should people like me (only users...not developers) should look out while testing a beta release?

I just try various apps I use often and see if they work properly.

Do you want us (laymen) to do anything else for feedback?

Thanks!

1) Did as suggested by you above. But the link is still broken.

2) Starting the Camera application brings the error "Failed to initialize camera. 36001:100:1".

3) Is there a fix to run TCPMP properly on your ROM. I have noticed that the 'Volume Normalisation' option in the 'Equalizer' somehow doesn't function and sound crakles like hell. Possibly the reason why you didn't include TCPMP in you ROM.

Otherwise, a superb ROM. I have tried a couple of other WM 6.5 ROMs available elsewhere in the forum. This one, without any doubt is the fastest & most stable. And i am overjoyed with the over 21 MB memory i get after rare soft resets. 18 MB is constant on normal use.

Worse, you can't use the Start Menu, and many dialogs etc don't work (so RegEdit didn't work). It's hard to restore reg key!

Sorry to quote myself:o

Is there any special recommendation to increase my program free memory?
RAM is ok and this is the 1st time my program memory goes to high...only 9% free:confused: without any use, if I open IE and Comm manager it goes even for less free program memory 3%...

p.s I do not have so much heavy apps installed (Windows live only) and I know disabling windows default will help, but is so lovely I donīt want to :) so is there another thing to do on my 64mb Uni to increase it?
(I need desperately my upgrade to 128mb!!!)

Thanks in advance,

-Jonny-
18th July 2009, 09:36 AM
Orb, only way of increasing memory is

reducing number or size of programs running in background (ie, get rid of unecessary today items including CHome/Titanium). They may look nice, but, for example, you can get a weather program which can be closed, rather than having it always 'on'. Each today/CHome item may seem to take up small space, but it all adds up, and the memory will always be 'in use'
decrease PagePool (taking it below 4MB may give problems, but you can always try, I think Tomal uses 6 or 6.5MB PagePool)
flashing back to earlier ROM. There does seem to be substantial bloat from 6.1 to 6.5 (as there always is in any ROM advance). IE may be better, but it's also bigger. I expect this is same for much of MS stuff and other apps. They tend to get bigger as well as better, as they're made for machines with more free memory.
increasing physical memory size to 128MB (I think everyone waiting on Tomal for this :D)
I think you knew all this anyway, but there is no 'magic-wand'!

Hi -Jonny-

Thanks for your advices.
You answered perfect my question! Conclusion: I need 128mb RAM for my Uni!
(Even itīs not clear to me how 128mb RAM will help to add space to programs memory?)

-Using another ROM,s, As you know, I am a long time Ranju/Tomal ROM user and tested almost all his great versions,I know this option but I am really bored with 6.1 so itīs not an option to me.

-I donīt want to change pagepool, as I think the original ROM config is the adecuate.

In the meantime I can get a 128mb upgrade I am using it in work enviorment with windows defaul deactivated, and for personal usage itīs activated. This way is working ok to me.

Cheers my friend,

p.s: I love this part!:D

How can I remove the top Taskbar Battery meter?

tomal
18th July 2009, 07:40 PM
@orb:
From my experience it seems that main OS component for WM65 do not actually consume that much memory. So the rest part is UI, where you need to take a look.
Titanium home is one of the memory killers and another one I can say is the graphics based honeycomb. Try removing the extra graphics for program icons, it may help to get some extra memory.

Take a look on the following reg tree...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start]

Most of the links has an extra graphics for stylish icon, remove that.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\ Internet Sharing.lnk]
"Icon"="\\Windows\\Start_Icon_IS.png"
"Rank"=dword:35A4EBF6

Hi Tomal First of all I would like to thank you for your hard work and for all your efforts to keep the UNI alive because of you we all still interested in keeping UNI for some more time.I am using your ROM 8.9 and it is fantastic I want to keep that ROM running but because there is no video calling fasality I have to downgrade my uni to WM 5 and believe me I dont want to do that at all so I request you to please make it work I mean the video calling and I am sure lots of people will be more than happy to see its working in your ROM.Please help us if you can but if its not possible with WM6 then I have to downgrade my UNI with heavy heart. The camera in WM5 is not good it does not records vedio in full screen mode and even after recording if you play the recording in WMP it again plays in very small screen so could you suggest me what I should I do to make it record in full screen or is there any other newer version of HTC camers saftware that I can install in WM5? Please help.

On my personal case here is my problem why not have upgraded yet to 128mb to really enjoy of this incredible ROM:

1. My knowledge or people surounding me to disamble my Uni and sent MB to Tomal or any other place are very very low, so this is not an option for me.

2. In my country there is not a place where I can do any upgrade or asking for disamble (I have searched and asked).

3. Shiping costs to/from my country are very expensive.

4. Customs and taxes are ridiculous high and not very effective to send or recieve any electronic from any country.

Said that, and thinked a lot, my solution is to wait till october that I´llbe for 45 days in Holland and soon as I arrive I can send to UK to do the upgrade at very high cost (at least for me), but definetly I will do it!, even if I buy another device.
Hope this work trip is not cancelled, if so I will be totally with no more options...

If somebody has an advice here, please do!! :)

I'm counting with a service manual (wiki?) to do it, and I hope to have the right tools.

I donīt know how customs will handle the motherboard, but i think that they can't do much about it: old device, just a spare part, used one; they can't ask a lot for it. taking in account that the item will be returned and is going out just for a service, maybe there is some regulation about it.

Anybody knows out to legally deal with this?

Not sure why everyone has such a problem with electronics postage. I regularly import and export electronic components, mobile phone parts and various assembly pieces and never once did I have a problem sending or receiving. If someone tells you they have a problem sending or there is a problem sending from their country - I take it they just don't want to send and are wasting your time. Most parts sent to me from Asia cost $5-$10 to send at most, some are free, even though the total of the item is $3. Make sure you package well and tick 'Gift' and customs duties will be avoided.

In my country, computer and related accessories are tax free.
So the one of the tricks could be declare it as "sample mainboard" for "pocket computer". :D
But I'm not sure whether this trick could apply practically.

I'll soon do a pilot with 1-2 cases. It will help me to understand the whole process as well as difficulties.

I'm on travel at the moment so that it taking me some time to start.

duties/customs fees depend on the local (country) laws. generally, if the item to be sent is purposely for repair, no custom/duty tax will be imposed.

however, if the quantity to be sent for repair will cast doubt to the custom's evaluator/assessor, particularly involving items coming from one person or entity alone, it might be considered as importation, or export transaction, as the case maybe, then corresponding tax applies (lifeblood of the government :D:D). unless of course if it is very apparent that the items sent are not for such nature but apparently junk in itself, then, gen rule will apply. the exception to the latter case however is for those countries that prohibit or ban electronic waste to come in esp computer parts and the like (unfortunately, pdas MB included) .

nonetheless, if no local repair center available but abroad and the owner still insist to have his unit repaired (or memory upgrade for uni) despite the expenses involved, the most likely way to make it easier is to order your service requirement online, which i suggest based on experience. After confirmation of the service agreement, send the unit to the shipping/courier as advised by or with prior agreement with the service center to avail easier tracking and warranty (insurance might be required ) and there will be great probability that the evaluator will no longer re-asses the item as dutiable since the information itself will show that it is intended sole for repair.

my 1 cent... :)

i forgot, in the Philippines, some do take advantage of the law on overseas workers' (OFW) privilege on customs exemption to a certain extent and quantity, electronics or otherwise, brand new or junk :D:D, as long as its in their "balikbayan" boxes. what a law... :D:D:D

There is no special tool set, rather a set of specific screwdrivers, such as T5 and T6, Philips 000 and opening tool. If you look on eBay, tools like that are just a few bucks, I get sent tools free with every purchase of anything screen or parts related, no sense for you to buy something proper or expensive for a one-off jobie. I must agree with you

- IE sometimes does not even open untill I do a soft reset (And checked I have enough free RAM space)
- Sometimes it plays default ringtone and sometimes it plays my SD located selected ringtone randomly
- Yeah, other ROMīs have a little best battery life, but I assume itīs the price to have 6.5:D

Hey Tomal, thanks a lot for this rom, really like the new layout!
The only thing I don't care for is the large size of the popup menus.
With the WM65 roms for Himylaya you could set the size with
Ht in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ GWE \ Menu \ PopFnt
and
WidgSz in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ GWE

The first one actually works and decreases the text size, but I am unable to reduce the size of the up and down scroll arrows at the bottom and top. Any workaround?

Didn´t know you had an Uni, I can´t see it on your siggy.
Unfortunately Uni just can be upgraded to 128mb RAM, but is enough to run some apps not all...
Uni now it´s like a Mustang 64, it´s a classic! so if you are one of the lucky owners be prud of it!

And in some points still beats up new devices: example? you own a TP2 but Uni keyboard has no competence! :)

I noticed this too, however I realized I had changed on of the front buttons to launch it and unless I ensure I lock buttons, it will launch because it is easy to accidentally press the button when handling or while in my pocket!

Did you install arcsoft mms... if not do so... as mms is not included by default.... do a search in devs and hack and you be be able to find it...

Try choosing a different ring tone. The vibrate is sometimes different for different tones.
