The Wingster (http://thewingster.com/default.aspx): Access to all of the best Programs, ROMs, and Hacks for your T-Mobile Wing
As many of you already know, I created a website called "The Wingster (http://thewingster.com/default.aspx)", which is dedicated to everything for the T-Mobile Wing.
Programs (http://thewingster.com/programs.aspx) - All programs are tested for compatibility with the Wing, any bugs or issues are reported, screenshots are created, features are listed, and more. I'm making all the apps on XDA accessable by the common user!
ROMs (http://thewingster.com/roms.aspx) - There are a lot of ROMs out there, and since the cooks are busy creating newer versions, they don't always have time to make a nice detailed description page about their ROM. So I do it for them! Don't spend all of your time digging through a lengthy thread, if there was anything important that happened, it will be on The Wingster!
More - The Wingster (http://thewingster.com/default.aspx) is the place for everything T-Mobile Wing. If anything important happens about the phone, I'll be sure to tell everyone. The Wing II (HTC Touch Pro 2) will also be added to the site once I get it this July!
Enjoy using The Wingster!
Sneak Peak: A Mobile Wingster is coming in the near future! You can already visit the page (http://thewingster.com/mobile.aspx), but I'd recommend not, because I'm still working on it. If you'd like an idea of how the mobile page will look in it's final version, visit this page (http://thewingster.com/mobileinterface.aspx). I know The Wingster is already freakin fast at loading, but I just wanted to make an even better mobile version!
And donations (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=5401195) are always welcome! I've gotta pay $15 a year for the awesome website domain, so you've all got about 10 months to come up with $15 so we can keep the site! Just kiddin, I can pay that myself, but it'd be nice if I didn't have to. So yea, send the donations via Pay Pal, here: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=5401195
I hope I've helped all of you! And if anyone cannot donate with money, a nice reply saying how I helped you is always welcome! Just knowing that I'm helping everyone here makes me even more motivated to make the site better!
Thanks everyone, and thanks to Ivan (http://thewingster.com/ivanmmj.aspx) especially, his awesome ROMs (http://thewingster.com/ivanmmj.aspx) inspired me to make The Wingster.

ok i downloaded the flash center unzipped into my desktop. downloaded the nbh file. dragged the nbh file into the RUU folder, inside the flash center folder. Connected my phone and my computer through usb, and put my phone into flight mode. While it was syncing. Your direction on the wingster website said to run the USBL.exe file. But I can only fine the USPL.exe file. I thought you just messed up on the letters so i ran the USPL. exe file that i found in the flash center folder. The command line appears and after 75 percent of the 2nd step begins my phone blanks out white. And then the PDA utility pops out. After clicking finish, and then it saids something error check your utility. I did it like three times. Sometimes my phone pops up this little penguin and then freezes. But after all those attempts my phone still works normal. Can you please help me. Not clear about something just ask me. thanks.

Huh, yea, idk why it's not working. Umm it might be possible that your phone is a lower SPL than 4. Try this out:
Have your phone turned on like normal
Hold down the Camera button, and while holding it, press and release the Soft Reset button. Then once a new screen comes up, release the Camera button. This should bring up a colorscreen (Red, Green, and Blue), if not, tell me.
Check what SPL number you are. It should be over 4. If it is under 4, then we have to try something differently. Also check what IPL you have, and if it's under 4, then tell me again.
If you are over 4 on both of those numbers, then everything should be fine. Idk why it wouldn't work.
Are you using the default T-Mobile ROM (Still shouldn't matter)
Does ActiveSync work normally with your computer???
Answer and do those things that I listed out, then tell me the results and such. Thanks.

Restart the PC. It the PC not allowing the connection.
Also try:

The one you press to soft reset, which is the one on the left side of the phone, just below the Volume slider, that little circle. Press it with your stylus.

The files should be fine, I used to use them and they worked perfectly for me. Are you by chance using Windows 7?
Ignore the "disabling the firewall" thing, because that should have no effect.
So yea, are u running Windows 7, Vista, or XP? And is it the 64-Bit or the 32-Bit version??
Don't put that HaRET file on your phone. It'll do nothing. The Penguin is actually part of the bootloader proccess or something, but running that HaRET file will solve nothing. And I have no clue what that HARET file is. And I've never seen a penguin on my screen before.

Idk, you could re-download it again, but all the files are in that one folder. You then placed the downloaded ROM file into the RUU folder there? Thats all you should have to do.
Which ROM are you installing, anyways?

I donwnloaded the stable 6.1 version. I never had to unzip the file was i soppose it just automatically saved on to my desktop. And then i dragged it into the RUU file. Is the WM 6.1 soppose to be the NBH file? Because in my folder it says 7Z file type. I have another file but it saids NB file type. is this wrong?

Yea you MUST unzip the folder first!!!
Then you will take the NBH file from the unzipped location, and drop that .NBH file into your RUU folder. I believe the JustStable NBH file is titled: "ruu_signed.nbh", so just extract that file out, and then you drop it in the RUU folder, as I said. Then everything will work.
See, ALL ROM's come in compressed folders so that we can upload them online, otherwise they are too large to fit online! So you always have to extract them. I guess I just assumed people would, but I'll update the directions. Tell me if you need a .7z extractor, or just download the latest JustStable version from Skydrive (.zip) here: http://cid-7d1cac342168ec7f.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Wingster/JustStable/JustStable%20v%202%20Build%208%20%7C5LZX%7C6.zip

ace10134
7th July 2009, 03:31 AM
It saids 7Z file type.
Yea, so it's .7z compressed. Here's your options:
Since you don't already have a .7z extractor, I'm guessing, then you can download 7-zip. Then you extract the ROM file that you downloaded using 7-zip and you'll get your .NBH file. You can find it HERE (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/sevenzip/7z465.exe?use_mirror=softlayer), but I recommend the second option.
An easier option is to just download the .zip version from Skydrive. If you are looking for the latest JustStable V2 Build 8, then download it HERE (http://cid-7d1cac342168ec7f.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Wingster/JustStable/JustStable%20v%202%20Build%208%20%7C5LZX%7C6.zip). Once that's downloaded, just unzip it like normal (by opening the downloaded file and saying "Extract". Then once you get the "JustStable v 2 Build 8 (LZX).nbh" file extracted, put it in your RUU folder, and flash away!
Tell me if you need any more help with that. I recommend just using the second option for now. It'll be more familiar to you.

So was i soppose to drag the 7z file to the Just stable V2 Build 8 folder. Because if i unzipe the Just Stable V2 8 and drag the 7z file into it i cant extract it. But if i dont unzipped the Just stable V2 8 folder and drag the 7z file into it. i can extract it, but it doesnt finish extracting it.
htc_wing23
7th July 2009, 04:04 AM
I extracted the both the files toghether. I dont get a "ruu_signed.nbh" file, I get both files 7z and the Just stable V2 build 8, now turned into a NBH file. both one folder. and i dragged it into the RUU folder.

ok forget everything i said. Was i soppose to drag the 7z file to the just stable folder and then extract it. You just said extract the just stable folder and get the NBH file and drag it into the ruu folder and flash away. What do i do with the 7z file?

You are supposed to forget about the .7z file that you downloaded previously.
Then you unzipped the JustStable v 2 Build 8 (LZX).zip folder, and you should have gotten one file out of that, called JustStable v 2 Build 8 (LZX).nbh. You then drag that last mentioned file into the RUU folder. And then you flash.
Would you like some Remote Assistance with this? lol. And sorry, I forgot that the file should be called JustStable v 2 Build 8 (LZX).nbh since you downloaded the .zip version. But yea, I could "take control" of your computer, and do most of it for you, and then you can watch and learn, if you'd like.

So you saying that the juststable v2 build 8 is the WM6.1 rom? I thought it was a software to help make the 7z file a nbh file. so now i can delete the 7z file now right?

So you saying that the juststable v2 build 8 is the WM6.1 rom? I thought it was a software to help make the 7z file a nbh file. so now i can delete the 7z file now right?
Yes, delete that .7z file.
I told you to do either one of the following, the first choice was to get that software and extract the .7z file. The second and easier option was to just download the .zip folder called "JustStable V2 Build 8 (LZX).zip", extract that, and then take that .NBH file and place it in the RUU folder.
You NEED a .NBH file to flash anything. So once you get the .NBH file extracted, just place it in the RUU folder. Make sure that you only have one .NBH file in that folder.

ok. This is an odd question out of the blues, but can you set your personal picture as your back ground for WM6.1? also, I was wondering can the t-mobile wing run the android software? You know the software that the G1 phone has. I was curious. Because I wanted this program called the ringdroid. I saw it in one of my friends G1 phone. The Program ringdroid allows you to pick any songs from you playlist and edit what part you want out of the whole song and set it as your ringtone. Or do you know any other programs that is similar like this one? thanks

So you got JustStable working finally?
Of course you can set any picture as you background. Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Today and then check the Use this picture as the backgroud box. Then click Browse and select your picture.
You can run Android on the Wing, but it's slow, there's no cell phone or networking abilities, and it's just slow. But read the next paragraph instead.
HTC MP3 Trimmer: Of course WinMo has an app to trim MP3's and set them as your ringtone! Get it here from The Wingster: http://thewingster.com/htcmp3trimmer.aspx

True. It uses the same thing basically. So, if you want an MP3 player AND a Ringtone Trimmer, get HTC Audio Manager (http://thewingster.com/htcaudiomanager.aspx). When you're playing a song in Audio Manager, go to Menu -> Set as Ring Tone, and then you can trim it if you'd like.
If you just want the Ringtone Trimmer, then get HTC MP3 Trimmer (http://thewingster.com/htcmp3trimmer.aspx).

Yes, so if you want to flash another ROM, you follow the exact same procedure. If you download a .7z file or a .rar file, you will probably need some extracting software. Just talk to me again when you're interested in trying out a new ROM, and I'll walk you through that.
To install HTC MP3 Trimmer, you install it like any other program. I just kind of assumed everyone knew how to install .cab files.
Click DOWNLOAD from the download page of your desired program
Once downloaded to your computer (you could also browse to the link and download it from your phone), but once the file is on your computer, connect your phone to your computer, and drag the downloaded file onto your phone, in any location you'd like.
Now you can disconnect your phone.
Browse to the file using your phone's File Explorer. Once you've found it, single-tap it to launch it.
It will start installing. You can choose to Install To Storage Card, if you'd like, most people do.
Once it's finished, just say OK and close out of it.
Go to your Start menu and find the program, in this case it shoudl be called either HTC MP3 Trimmer or just MP3 Trimmer. Enjoy!
Any more questions, just ask. Sounds like you're new to Windows Mobile, I hope we're making it easier for you!

Windows Mobile 6.5 is the latest release from Microsoft, and thanks to Ivan, we can run 6.5. You can find info about it on The Wingster. Its called JustHome. The latest version is v 19. Use the same instructions as last time. Drag and dropping your music works perfectly fine, but your music has to be unprotected. If your music is unprotected, then it should work just fine.
If you're using Windows Media Player on your phone, then you probably have to go to Menu -> Update Library for your music to be registered.
I think you have to have a specific filetype for Media Player too. If Media Player isn't working well for you, try a better alternative, like Nitrogen (http://thewingster.com/nitrogen.aspx) or HTC Audio Manager (http://thewingster.com/htcaudiomanager.aspx). You probably already have HTC Audio Manager installed on your phone, since it comes with JustStable. Try those programs out, they're much better than Media Player.

Is the music bought from itunes? If it is, it's DRM'd and the wrong media format. If it isn't, it might still be the wrong format.

If you flashed my JustHome, you might have not read the thread well. It's mentioned a few times, how I didn't include MMS support (picture message) because people complained about the version that I included not being their favorite version or not working the way they wanted it to work. There are instructions on how to "fix" this.

Please always read the Bugs sections of a ROM before you ask questions. Just go back to the JustHome page on The Wingster (http://thewingster.com/justhome.aspx), scroll down, and you see a bullet point explaining how to get it working. I write it there for a reason! Thanks.

It's the same with ANY device. You can't get free internet without either OWNING the wireless router or having access to it. The error you're getting has nothing to do with the fact that you're on a wing. It's because you're trying to access something that you don't have permission to access.

So do i just drag it into my device? About the music, its downloaded from limewire.
Yep!
Connect your device via USB to your computer
Go to Start -> Computer, or whatever. (On your computer)
Open up your phone's folder from your computer.
Drag and drop it, done all on your computer.
Then it should be on there. It's pretty simple.

You have to drag the files themselves, not the visual representation within the itunes program.

your phone cannot "catch" a signal from youir cable internet, you have to have a wifi router. As for getting a wifi signal near your house you first have to be sure that the network is unsecured, if it is then you should just get a pop-up asking if you want to connect to the network and you just say yes, if it asks you for a password its obviuosly a secured network and you wont be able to connect without a network key, which im sure you dont have. If a pop-up doesnt come up then you just go to the comm manager turn on wifi click on settings then wireless lan, then it should show a list of all availiable networks and you can connect to your "free" one.

Lol, yea, as we asked you, you have to have a WiFi router. Just having a Cable router means nothing. So go out and buy a WiFi router from Best Buy, then connect the WiFi router to your Cable router, and then connect your phone to the WiFi router, wirelessly.

if you get taken to the t-mobile page then you aren't connected to wifi. When you try to use the internet does a pop-up come up and say "connecting to gprs" or something like that.

Dude, you obviously don't have a WiFi router. All you do is you go to your Comm Manager (Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Comm Manager), and turn on your WiFi on your phone.
But...you have to have a WiFi router in your home first!! which you apparently don't. If you had a WiFi router, than your WiFi hotspot will pop up after turning on your WiFi on your phone. Then you enter your WiFi's password and surf the web.

Thanks.
I am also having the same problem. The error I get is around 7% - "Error 228 - Invalid File Size. The Image File is corrupted - Please check your update Utility". At bottom states "IU2". I tried both files - downloading the zip (and unzipping) from the sky drive and the .7z file - and both give the same error at the same point. Both IPL and SPL > 4.0; Flight Mode; I have flashed several ROM's before.
I was able to use the Just Stable regular - but would really like to start with a lean ROM (Micro).
Will appreciate it if you can shed any light.

Well you gotta be HardSPLed to flash JustStable Micro or any other LZX-version ROM. Becoming HardSPLed takes some time, and for newbs, it's tough. And NO, your phone doesn't come pre-HardSPLed like the other guy was claiming, LOL.
If you wanna learn how to HardSPL, then contact me via The Wingster, and then we can talk over IM or E-Mail, which is a little easier. Just use the contacting forum here: http://thewingster.com/requestanapp.aspx

You have to map the key that triggers the voice command button.
I can confirm that it works when you map it to your Start Button (the physical key).
P.S. The program uses the network to do voice commands, so u better have a data plan or WiFi. It's not working for me right now though. See if it works for you.

You should write that problem on the JustHome Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM thread, since that's the ROM that you're using.

Flashing requires CID unlocking (which is what USPL and HardSPL somewhat do (the USPL bypasses the CID check altogether and the HardSPL creates a special CID that we can sign ROMs to.)) SIM unlocking is something entirely different.

Lots of people with other carriers have flashed just fine. I'm sure it won't be a problem. You can also remove your SIM card while flashing, if you think it would interfere. But I'm quite sure you won't have any problems.

I think it's kind of lame that just because the Wing wasn't that popular means it doesn't deserve a sim unlocker. I've never even seen an actual HTC Universal or Blue Angel, but there's an unlocker for those. I guess there isn't sh#@ for unlockers if you have a US T-Mobile smartphone(except the Shadow, thanks again koolstuffz). I guess I'm just gonna have to pay to have it done. Thanks anyway guys.

Think about it. If you knew enough on how to make an unlocker, would you make it for your phone or spend your time making it for all the other phones that no one uses? Most users of the Wing/Herald don't care about unlocking their phones, so it would take:
1. A very good coder who knows the intricacies of an HTC GSM internals.
2. Many hours of researching, coding, testing, recoding, etc.
All that for the 4 people who would use it.

Shadow's a cheaper phone, so more people can get it. Also, they released a newer version of it too.
The Wing is wayyy outdated. Touch Pro 2 will be saving us in 6 days, though.

I apologize if this has already been answered here or anywhere else.
I posted in the forum regarding the Ava ROM, and while I did like it, ultimately Manilla 2D wasn't for me. This ROM is something I really appreciate, due to the simplicity and the balance/stability. However, I just can not get MMS working. I download Arcsoft from The Wingster and followed the (few) steps to a t, but it just doesn't want to work for me. Is this because the data in the Arcsoft program is outdated, or what? I don't fully understand all of the networking, so I don't want to tinker around with it too much.
Also, I'm pretty sure this ROM doesn't come with Omap. I looked on The Wingster, but I didn't find it. Where can I find the most up to date version without trudging through old forum posts? Thanks for the help, this forum has been a lifesaver for me time and time again!

Well, are you still using Ava???
And MMS should already work in Ava. Do NOT install Arcsoft on the Ava ROM, since it's already installed!!!!! What you can try is network wizard. It will be called ArcoftStep-2 on the Wingster, or something like that. You'll find the cab on the Arcsoft page on The Wingster. (I can't post a link, I'm on my phone)
And for over-clocking, the "New Cab Collection" has a good Omap. Search for that. It should be decently up to date.

Guess I should've been more specific. I re-flashed the phone and put JustStable on it. Sorry! I have tried the Network Wizard, but that hasn't helped. Not realistically.
Windows Mobile 7 isn't like 5, 6, 6.1 and 6.5. It's based on a whole different WinCE family. The device specific parts of the kernel and drivers will probably not work and would have to be made from scratch. Which is not practical, not to mention that Windows Mobile 7 will probably be designed with phones that have 1GHz CPUs and at least 256mb of RAM in mind. (Since that's where we're heading right now.)
