View Full Version : No more Windows 6.1?

Now that all new ROMS are being cooked with Windows 6.5, I wonder if those of us that prefer 6.1 have finally reached the end of our Trinity journey.
Personally, as a user of SPB Mobile Shell 3.1, I really don't need the memory expense of a flashy start menu with icons, or an extended scrolling today page. As a result, I have now been using the same ROM (the excellent Team CV93+Oggi's WM6.1 21042 UltraLite) for a record period of time! I guess as always it boils down to personal preference, but... is that the end of the road for new build 6.1 ROMS?:(

This would be great!!
Like Mattster I'm using 6.1 with MS3, and if you are trying to optimize even more the 21042, it's really great news.
Thank you for wonderfull work( and Chanvi also)

No,
Just cook a rom whithout chome (or disable the plugin in today screen)...
For start menu, you will need to install quickmenu.
If you don't want the new themes (scroll bars etc...), use a tsk from a 6.1 theme
Voila! wm 6.5 whith 6.1 appareance

Of course, wm6.5 eats more ram but you have a more finger friendly os... fex
Whith chanvi's kitchen whith the cab for quickmenu and removing honeycomb he gets 23MB ram free. Also, if you delete all png related to themes you should gain some more ram...
I'm only saying that you can get a 6.5 rom whith 6.1 UI...
I'm using TomTom so whith 21MB RAM free (my own build 23001 whith CHOME plus everything I need) I'm really happy

Hi mac_es,
Yes, I tried this but eventually had the sensation that all I was doing was turning a 6.5 into a 6.1, so then I thought... why not just stick with 6.1?!
Interesting hearing peoples comments though.
I guess one big factor is if the user wants (like most of us) for their device to have the latest technology (which is why we're all addicted to flashing!).
The votes are fairly 50:50 so far.

Hi Friend,
I urge you to try Chanvi's recent 23001... Dude- it is both smart, quick, well managed memory, and the kitchen is awesome.
None of the WM6.1 I used to flash was not that good. i am sire oggi will come up with a superb WM6.1 and it is most likely be as good as the WM6.5, however, I find it hard to believe you still use Win98 right? XP was a natural way to go, and WM7 will be the next thing (ignore Vista for the analogy..)
Same is with WM6.5 in a year from now I wish you a new phone (WVGA and lots of RAM) but if you will still have trinity for any reason (I will probably keep it) then Wm6.5 is the closest to the new generation phones.

PS: I voted W6.5 and now it is not 50:50 .. :)

Hi to all
I liked very much the Rom's of Team CV93+Oggi.
The 21042 is fantastic concerning free Rom. The 6.5 Rom are also great and with QM the free Rom is not bad.
But with this roms and no additional SW I have had some problems:
1. when I made a call from a fix net to my trinity than the display appears only after 1-2 beeps on the fix phone and then it takes another beep before my trinity start to ring
2. sometimes I had missed call/sms but good network
The only solution for me was to install SPB Phone Suite to be rememered all 5 minutes for missed calls or sms.
Now I'm back to good old 017TNYSTD:
1. before I can hear first beep on fixnet phone the dispaly goes on and with first beep or a little later my trinity rings, also with many additional SW :)
Do you have the same expirience?
My favourite rom would be 21042 because of the free space (iGO8) but the phone part of my Trinity has to be 100% working.
Do you have an idea?
@Oggi,
could it be fixed on new 21042

How to get the ROM "Team CV93+Oggi's WM6.1 21042 UltraLite"
I've had a few people IM me asking where I got this ROM from, so I thought I'd post the answer here:
To get this ROM you need to "create" it using Chanvi's Kitchen. Don't worry, it's not really "create", it's just selecting it and hitting a button. Follow these steps:
1. Scroll down to POST 2 of the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=513421
There you will see a link for WM 6.1 Kitchen AND Emulator WM 6.5 from MS. Click on 21042 WM 6.1 WWE+FRA Kitchen for Trinity [/B]
If you prefer, just click on the following link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5330c72c2c98e20d7069484bded33bcd48c3279b 870421d7
2. Download and save the Kitchen zip to your desktop. Once downloaded open it up and copy the folder inside to your desktop.
3. Open the foldfer and click on Ervius Kitchen exe.
A box will appear.
4. Re-select Trinity (important to do this) then select the ultralite rom in the drop down menu on the right.
5. Click on the Create Rom.
6. Whilst the ROM is being put together, connect your device via usb to get Active Sync going. When the ROM is ready, the familiar flash screen will appear and I guess you know it from there!
Any problems give me a shout.

Nice thread Mattster!! :D
I also miss WM6.1 ROMs... I use iGO8 and RAM is always a problem! If only we had more memory :(
I would gladly move to WM6.5 but I need the RAM for iGO8.
Interested to see what Oggi can come with! :D
Go WM6.1! :D

Hi joncgde.
Thanks for the post.
If you use iGO8, user "BigE" could have a lot of good advice for you. He is somewhat of an expert at tweaking the Trinity to work well iGO8, even with a 6.5 ROM. He speaks very well of Chanvi's recent 23001.
That said, the votes for users of just Windows 6.1 vs users of just 6.5 are at present 50:50, plus there are other users who enjoy both. Interesting stuff.

hi Mattster_spv, i guess we are somewhat similar. a fast naked rom with simple UI. i have voted wm6.1 for this reason. i guess our trinity is not a good candidate to run wm6.5. i still preferred the good old htc home than chome (too many steps). i'm a big fan of finixnover and chanvi & oggi. my device still running th elast cooked rom of finix's. it would definitely make my day if the great cooker would just keep on updating wm6.1 rom. thanks.

Hi Callmepaper.
I totally agree. The only real reason I don't use Finix's last light rom is that it's too black. Looks great but sometimes hard to see in the sun. Such a shame he broke his Trinity!

p.s. Apologies for incorrect link above. I have changed the instructions now on how to get Chanvi & Oggi's UltraLite 6.1. Please see post above.

I recommend you visit and try SafeMode 3.1. See www.monocube.com
I have only 10M free RAm when i use the phone as Phone/PDA. When i want to use iGO I reset the phone, and start it in 'safe mode'. Than I run iGO with freaking 31M free RAM although i have WM6.5 !!!!!!!!!
I enjoy both worlds- tons of free RAm when needed for iGO, or beautiful GUI, graphics and features otherwise. For whom who thinks Trinity can not deal with WM6.5 - I was that pesimistic too, until Chanvi the great proved me wrong...

CV93+Oggi's WM6.1 21042 UltraLite is a great rom (and a great kitchen) for trinity.
But, I don't like default font chosen by authors. How can I change it and revert back to original windows font? Help is very appreciated. Thank you.

A week to go and Windows 6.1 is clearly in the lead...
I've gone back to one of Tnyynt's ROM - nice and snappy even with Mobile Shell on board.
Any last minute votes? This Poll could well lead to a new crop of cooked 6.1 Roms!!!

I have been fighting WM6.5 to work properly on trinity. ROMs are great. Cookers are awesome, but our poor 64M RAM phone is the problem. The more I progress with developed code, the more I lack enough memory... I am going back for a wahile and try WM6.1 21042 because I am desperate for more memory... I love the new WM6.5 , but sadly have to say trinity is not the right phone for it, if you fency a igo8, home2, M2D and so on. They don;'t work all together... :( I have seen the past month the 'out of memory' message from iGO too often, and iGO crashed on me while driving several times, leaving me hanging on a freeway not knowing where I go...
Better have less blows and whistles, but more stability... at least until I can afford a phone with more RAM...

Any Recommendations for new HTC device?
Hi BigE.
I've come into a little bit of money and am now thinking of buying a new phone with more RAM than the Trinity. This is purely with the idea of opening the door to flashing new ROMS and following new development threads. It's a hobby that I've grown to love (I've not managed to either find the time or get into cooking my own ROMS).
If you could afford to step up from the Trinity, (not just BigE, I'm interested in all suggestions) what device would you get?

Hi Make My Day,
I said a little bit of money! :D Thanks for the suggestion though.
I'm not looking for the latest HTC, just ome which currently has loads of custom ROMS to try out and development going on, like Trinity had a year or so ago. I guess the Diamond would be an idea maybe, although I read about people going back to Trinity as they prefer it!?

I have been using Tomme45i's WM 6.5 Standard for a couple of days and yes, it seems fantastic!
[ROM][WWE][08.08.2009]WM 6.5 Standard (OS 5.2.23017 Build 23017.5.3.0) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545758)
Though it is a Windows 6.5 ROM, it doesn't have all the memory intensive dressing that appears in the other Windows 6.5 ROMS, and as a result works like a dream! The best thing is, there seem to be no memory leaks at all. After closing an application, the memory happily returns to over 20MB.
Does it mean I prefer 6.5 ROMS?
Well, as far as I'm concerned, it's a hybrid of 6.1 and 6.5. Let's face it, there's not a lot of the Windows 6.5 components in it is there? Tomme has done a great job in stripping it down. The preformance is incredible.
What is definite is that at the time of writing, Tomme45's new 6.5 ROM is far superior on all levels to any other ROM I've ever tried!

If it barks, it must be a dog..;)
The latest tomme45i's cooked ROM is stripped from some of the annoying RAM hogs such as the bee hive, and lacks any decent today plugin, and this is excatly what makes it superior over WM6.1.
Having no leaks of RAM is the one element to make it the best ROM, so I think now WM6.5 (at least the one tomme45i cooked) took me off the fence, I no longer swing between 6.1 and 6.5 now.. I am all 6.5
The sys and xip files are from 6.5 so although I agree it is a hybrid (because you will not get any drivers for trinity by HTC to support WM6.5 fully). It's a 6.5, let's face it.
