Here is a collection of some hacks that I have found for the Samsung Jack. I hope you all find it useful. Hopefully we can get a collection of hacks on this thread to tailor our Jacks the way we like.

To reset the handset’s factory settings, via buttons, follow the steps below:

WARNING: This Reset will Delete ALL added Data from the Handsets Memory
When the handset is powered off, Press and Hold the 5 key then power on the handset
Press either the 1 key (Master Clear) or 2 key (Master Reset) at the Format Menu screen then press the Y key (Yes) at the confirmation prompt

Note: To turn the SGH-I637 (Jack) on or off simply Press & Hold the power button , located on the upper left side of the handset.

ADMIN settings-
You do not have to unlock security on the phone to be able to do this...

1) From the home screen type in *#1546792*#

2) pick 3 for network and call settings

3) Set network order to Auto, and network mode to auto

***Alternate***
In the \Windows directory there is a program called Adminsettings.exe. You can create a short cut in the Startmenu and not have to type out all of the
numbers.

Unlock security on the Jack-

http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=7565

• The first step of removing the security limitations is to download the ClearSecurity file.
• Next, connect the Samsung Jack to the computer and move the file to the device through ActiveSync.
• Install ClearSecurity and launch Microsoft’s Security Configuration Manager.
• Select Security Off from the drop down menu and click the Provision button, the program will install a file called Tool.
• Run a registry editor program like Total Commander or Mobile Registry Editor and delete the key ForceCellConnection from:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Comm>InternetSharing>Settings.

Make sure after you are done with the unlock procedure that you uninstall clearsecurity.cab, it will be called "SOTI MobiControl Device Agent" in remove

programs.

So far, the only button I have found to be able to reprogram is the AT&T button on the bottom left of the keyboard. It invokes MediaNet.lnk in the
\Windows directory. You can modify the shortcut to point to whatever program you want.

How about some tweaks as well.

Change StartMenu from grid view to list view:
HKCU > Software > Microsoft > Shell > StartMenu > Gridview. Change the value from 1 to 0.

Arrange the StartMenu list in the order that you want it:
HKCU > Software > Microsoft > Shell > StartMenu > Order. Just edit the values placing them in the order you want them to appear in the start menu.

Delete shortcuts in the StartMenu you do not want:
This requires the phone to be app unlocked. Install Total Commander V. 2.51 and navigate to the StartMenu folder in the Windows directory. Total Commander will allow you to delete shortcuts where Windows won't.

Change ringtone size limitation:
HKCU > ControlPanel > Sounds > FileSizeLimit. Just edit the value to any size you'd like.

Add custom alert tones to the default lists, without them appearing in the ringtone list:
HKCU > ControlPanel > Sounds > AllSounds. Add the the file name to the value list and then drop the file itself into the Windows system directory. It will appear in the settings lists.

Disable the AT&T sliding panel, if using the sliding panels homescreen:
HKLM > Software > Microsoft > CHome > CCustomPlugin1 > Disabled. Change the value from 0 to 1.

Disable threaded messaging:
HKCU > Software > Microsoft > Inbox > Settings > OEM > SMSInboxThreadingDisabled. Change the value from 0 to 1.

Disable 3G in the Settings menu:
The phone will need to be app unlocked. Navigate to the following registry key, HKLM > Security> Phone > ManualDisable, and change the value from 1 to 0. Exit the registry. Go to Settings > Phone > Networks. Change Network selection to Manual. Hit the Menu option on the lower righthand corner and choose Select a Network. Depending on the signals you are picking up, you will get GSM and/or 3G. You may see GSM more than once if you are picking up a signal from more than one tower. If you get two, try both to see which gives you a better signal of the two. Improvement with signal and battery life will be minimal, depending on the area. It did help me with dropped calls.

The pocketnow.com site has dropped the app unlock article. However the 1800pocketpc.com one is still up. However, some are posting there that they are not having success with the process. Last I checked, megaupload.com was still hosting the clearsecurity cab. If you are going to try it. You better do it quick. Seems like Microsoft and/or AT&T may be working to put a stop to the unlocking.

Is anyone else having trouble running Microsoft's Security Configurator? Running a Vista machine and as soon as the program runs, I get an error that shuts down the program.

I was able to install ClearSecurity but can't get into the configurator to drop the security settings.

I'm coming to the Samsung world from HTC and I had a couple of questions.

1. I've looked around for a tool like the advanced configuration tool and cannot find one that will work on the Jack. Is there something out there that will work on winmo 6.1 standard?

2. In lue of a tool that will do this, is there a registry key I can change/set that will disable my 3g connection after a period of inactivity. i.e. I check do a send/receive to check my mail and then after 1 minute of no traffic, the 3g connection is terminated.

This is something that you could do with the advanced configuration tool. This comes in handy for saving battery life.

Thanks for any insight!

FYI: I found the info below here: http://blog.vivekjishtu.com/2008/08/auto-disconnect-gprs3g-on-i780.html

To change the settings follow the detailed steps listed on this page. I have listed the steps in brief. You will need to use the registry editor to make the changes.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\

The 1st key is DWORD CacheTime the number denotes the number of seconds to wait before the auto disconnect, by default it is 600 seconds.

the 2nd key is Multiline value / String SuspendResume which can have 2 values

"~GPRS!" - 3G always On
"GPRS_bye_if_device_off" - timeout after CacheTime

I unlocked my Samsung Jack as described above but from another website and deleted Internet Sharing. Much to my dismay, I did not have to delete the registry entry and I lost some of the internet sharing capabilities. Can someone give me the complete registry entry for Internet Sharing. If I can't get the entry I will have to reset the phone and lose all of my work up to now.

I am not sure if it fixed the problem completely or not. I can do Internet sharing using Wireless Manager, but I only have USB and Bluetooth under the Internet Sharing tab. Thanks for the help. One question if you have time to answer - I assume that there was not an entry under Default?

Yes, default is blank, no value, and USB and bluetooth connection to your PC from your phone is all there is.
This hack is so you can tether your phone from your PC and use it as an internet modem with Media Net.
Now you can connect to your 3G on your phone with your PC.

Thanks for your help. I have worked with computers for around 30 years as a user, but not with a phone with an operating system. Lot to learn.

Again thanks. This forum is interesting and will be useful to review postings.

Has anyone found a way to remap the long home key press? It opens task manager and I'd rather it open Celetask.

I've also noticed if I enable the battery page in CHomeConfig, it doesn't show the percentage of battery remaining... anyone know how to make that work?

Thanks!

if you install celetask you can rename the exe to ATTNav.exe and copy it and all the all files from the celetask program files to ATTNav folder it re-mapps the gps button on the jack and works, unless you actually use the AT&T gps you might now want to do that. has anyone noticed that the Z key will not work (Z key will make S) in text and emails and internet explorer when you have XT9 enabled? the guy at AT&T is trying to tell me all phones smart phones do that with XT9 on which is bs

Another option would be to take the AT&T Navigator.lnk file in the \Windows directory and edit it in Total Commander or a text editor and change the URL to point to any program you want. I take the original .lnk file in \Start Menu and copy the URL and then paste it into the AT&T Navigator.lnk file.

And I always thought XT9 was a pain to use, I've never known it to get a letter right regardless of what phone I used.

I found that, if you simply misspell something in a .lnk file, like the file extension - that stops the button from working and OS brings up nothing. That's all I did on BJ II and it worked great.

I just have to say all the above is amazing how much you can do on a cell phone, but does anyone know how to hack the phone for free internet using ONLY wifi? I know it is possible, but I want to know how to do it, as my parents won't pay for a data plan and don't want them to pay a $200 bill for using the internet. Thank you SOOO much in advance.

@joggerman1
Free Internet is relatively easy to explain. Your Samsung Jack has 3 forms of communication.
Bluetooth- connect to other phones to do data transfers
Phone- connection to your cellphone service provider (cingular, etc.) for voice & paid data plan via cellular coverage.
Wifi- data connection via wifi connections, much like your typical laptop that connects to wirless access points & on through a connection, say at home or in a coffee shop w/ free wifi.

to insure your only using service via wifi you simply go to the Wireless Manager on the phone (my Home Screen is the Windows Default so the Wirless Manager is a click away) & click on 'Phone' to turn of AT&T's connection, next click on 'Wi-Fi' to turn it on. Next, it'll show you available wireless connections in your area and let you pick on & then enter any wireless security passwords, then ask you if you want to save the credentials- which I don't normally save if it's a wireless name that is common, such as 'linksys'.
once it says your connected via wifi and the phone service is off you're good to go.
To turn your Phone service back on just turn the wifi off and phone back on.

This way you know that you know you're not using your providers data.
I also hold down the key that looks like a house on the Samsung phone to open up the task manager & exit out of the browser program I'm using to make sure it doesn't have an established connection to a website once I'm done using wifi & back on the AT&T connection.

Anyone noticed if the Battery section of the Settings panel shows the % left or not on their Samsung Jack?

It doesn't appear on mine, my phone is app unlocked if that makes a difference.

I compared the registry entries on my Jack to some phones I recently flashed to WM 6.1 (Cingular 2125 & SMT5600) and WM 6.5 (T-Mobile Dash) and they appear to be the same.

Is another hack needed to get it to appear or do I have to copy some files over from another phone to get the remaining battery % to appear?

If AT&T blocks a Samsung upgrade, maybe we will see something appear here to upgrade our devices.

You can just have AT&T disable data connections to the phone too, but this disables your ability to send/receive picture messages.

Or you can just use NoData and disable Media Net. Then you don't have to worry about accidentally connecting ever, plus your MMS will still work...

Does anyone know how to change the factory FN keys? I want to set FN+W as a shortcut to turn WiFi on (like FN+B turns bluetooth on). Right now it turns Media Net on and that's stupid lol

I posted this on another site also, but here is what worked for me:

For all looking to change the predefined function keys on the Samsung Jack set by ATT, (I do not take any responsibility for the registry editing you do):

1) Unlock the phone and get a registry editor. Here is a good tutorial on how to unlock the phone and reg edit: http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/06...msung-jack.html

2) open the registry (I use mobile Registry Editor)

3) go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE => Software => Samsung => KeyRun

Note: "Key Run" is where the definitions for the function keys are set and where you need to do the editing. Once again, you are responsible for the editing you do. It is best to back up the registry before editing. Or at least record the previous settings before changing.

4) you will see each letter of the alphabet. Select the letter you want to change for example "C"

********************************************
If you want to remove the key settings so you can program it via Jack's Settings menu, do the following:

a) Delete all settings except (Default) and (Order)
b) Change the value of (order) to 0
c) close editor
d) on the Jack run: Settings => 7 More... => 6 Key Settings => 1 FN Key Settings => Show List
e) you will see that "C" is no longer there
f ) select: Menu => Add
g ) select the key you would like to assign the function (example "C")
h ) In the Value box select the program to run (example "calculator")
i ) now when you press "function C" the calculator will run.
*****************************************

To change the key in the editor: After selecting the letter you want to change in the registry, you need to edit each value as listed below:

AppPath: this is the .exe that you want to run (make sure you put in the full path): you can also enter the .lnk, for example: "\Windows\Start Menu\Organizer\Calculator.lnk" for the calculator

AppTitle: This is the name that will show in the list. If you set it to "0" or leave it blank, it should be the name of the .exe or the .lnk (in the above example "Calculator" will show)

Argument: this is any extra arguement that you want to run with the program (in most cases leave it blank)

Order: this is the order that it shows up in the list of Function keys (do not duplicate order numbers except for 0)

That is it, Good Luck

P.S.

I changed the other Jack predefined keys such as the GPS key and the ATT MediaNet key by editing the .lnk (shortcut) in the windows directory and redirecting it to the program I wanted.

Now when I press the GPS key it opens Google maps and when I press the MediaNet key it opens the Wireless manager so I can turn the wifi on and off. I haven't found the program name that turns wifi on and off, so I just have it start the wireless manager.

The name of the two shortcuts are:

MediaNet
AT&T Navigator

Has any one else noticed that since unlocking the phone they lost the conference call ability? Everytime I try I get the cannot conference calls message. I had my IT guy give me a new out of the box Jack and it worked fine with my sim in it so it leads me to believe that some thing was changed in the registry when I unlocked the phone. Does any one know the reg keys for conference calling on the Samsung? I have searched and cannot find it.

Currently using a Samsung Jack i637. I was wondering anyone has figured out a way to increase the limit on number of people you can send a text to at once. You can only send a text message to 10 people at once, is there a registry change I can make to increase the size higher than 10?

I've never used a winmo standard device so I'm not sure about this...

It appears that samsung has used custom dialogs for many functions in the Jack. Ex: Volume control, confirmation dialogs etc etc....

Do the default winmo dialogs offer any benefit over these? (from a performance, functionality or aesthetics perspective? - I think the current dialogs look terrible!)

Anyone know any hacks or reg edits that will let me use the default dialogs? (If any...)

Also, are there any programs or hacks that will

a) Control the backlight better using the sensor.

b) Increase the volume

c) Generally increase the speed of the device

There were dozens of programs that would let me set the file system cash etc in my old HTC Gene (Pocket PC)... anything like that for the jack?

This is my first Samsung device and I'm thinking it might be my last. HTC devices are more popular in the modding community and thus have more options.

I'd like to find a clean ROM for the Samsung Jack so I can dump the AT&T and Samsung specific applications/modification.

I feel that too..

But I don't have a problem with the samsung rom per-se. The phone handles the crapware at&t and samsung install just fine and there are actually a few decent apps thrown in.

Look for blackjack hacks and stuff - that phone is MUCH more popular and 99% of the stuff out there applies to the jack too.

I'm using an unlocked AT&T Jack i637 on the Fido network. For some reason my call display doesn't seem to be working properly.

-When someone with a Fido # calls me, my call display works.
-When someone with a Rogers # calls me, my call display works.
-When someone with a Telus or Bell # call me, it comes up as UNKNOWN, even if the person is in my contact list.
-And lately, some Rogers #"s are also showing up as UNKNOWN.

I called Fido and they can't help me out with it. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this?

I, too, recently obtained an i637. I have two questions for yall

1 can I make the font size any smaller? I understand settings -> accessibility allows me to change between normal and large, but normal's already pretty big.

2 My exchange email inbox only shows the last week's worth of email messages. I remember my HTC 8925 being able to display messages up to a month old. As hard as I look, I can't find any menu setting to change this as I did on the tilt. Any help?

Hello all, I got a HTC Tilt, or Kaiser, with the basic Data plan I am able to tether using internet sharing and setting this to medianet. The Jack has the same operatng system Windows 6.1 and this option doesnt show up. Anyone know a fix? I tried sending the bin, or exe from my tilt to it and it works but doesnt have the option. Any ideas??

Thanks.

I think you'd have to make sure the battery rating matches the Jack battery digit for digit before attempting (considering the connectors line up).

The link in my post #4 is still good. You must do the unlock and you must delete or change the entry in the registry the article and video references. Then Media net will show up in Internet Sharing.

I've managed to hack the medianet and navigator buttons on my jack. Basically that involved going into \windows, searching for the medianet and navigator .lnk files and editing them to point at something else.

I have medianet bring up the google mobile app and the navigator button activate voicecommand.

Which brings me to my second point - Unless I've missed something obvious there is no way to assign a H/W button to voicecommand (which comes bundled with the phone). This means that while voice command works great for reading out announcements etc etc it can't be used to, for example, place calls.

The solution is to make one of the H/W buttons point to \windows\voicecommand.lnk

I've set up the navigator button for this.

Basically you find \windows\AT&T Navigator.lnk and edit the properties so that it points to "\windows\voicecommand.lnk".

Is there a better (i.e. a 'proper') method for this?

I still haven't figured out how to re-assign the 'messaging' button though. I've tried re-assigning \windows\tmail.lnk but it doesn't work... (Now the massaging button does nothing. And yes, I've typed the path correctly. Am trying to get it to open flexmail.)

Any ideas?

Edit: I have a feeling that the messaging button doesn't call \windows\tmail.lnk after all... Any ideas as to what it does?

When changing my MediaNet.lnk and AT&T Navigator.lnk files, I never backed up the originals. :o I assume those numbers and hash marks were important because now the shortcuts don't work for me. Can anyone post the original target of both of the shortcuts please? Thanks!

[edit: or just a working path to anything, please... I've triple checked for errors and there are none in the path so I must have done something wrong I guess.]

[edit again: I resolved this by doing the following: I wanted MediaNet to open Google Mobile App and GPS to open Google Maps, so, I copied the shortcuts to these apps from the '\windows\start menu' folder, renamed them accordingly, and viola, it worked! (figured i'd post just in case someone else has this issue. However, I guess I won't be able to put them back to the originals w/o a hard reset since I never backed them up, but really who would want to do that anyway?]

Thanks again for all these tips, I'm glad to be able to change those two buttons finally!

I have no use for either medianet and AT&T Navigator so I didn't really care about loosing the original link info.

However, I guess the same technique will work for these apps...

i.e. using

"\windows\start menu\AT&T Navigator.lnk"

and

"\windows\start menu\Media net.lnk"

(Including the quotes) as the targets for the .lnk files

I use total commander btw...

Ummm..... No. There isn't any reason that this isn't possible for an UNLOCKED Samsung jack.

Look around here and on the other popular sites for the software. I've seen it for WinMo Professional phones... I don't see any reason for the same stuff not working on Standard.

I've upgraded as well. Works fine.

Although, it does very little. 6.5 seems to be nothing more than just bug fixes for the non-touchscreen smartphones. Nothing seems to be that different. Don't get yourself psyched up for this upgrade. Since it formats everything, it seems to be a lot of work for not a lot of benefit.

I may be wrong about this and it may not be true for the old 6.1 roms, but I strongly suspect that the messaging button activates

\windows\start menu\messaging.lnk

If that is indeed the case, just copy it and rename it to messaging1 or something and edit messaging .lnk to point to whatever you want!!!

I can't believe I missed this!

This also explains how I'd broken it earlier- I'd moved messaging to a subfolder!

Please try and update.

It wasn't long at all. Although I was watching Mythbusters (tivo'd) at the same time.

The thing that did cause me headaches was this: The power button now has to be HELD to power back on. Previously this was not the case, as I could press it and it would power on. Now, you have to press and hold.

I panicked at first. I pressed power and nothing... nothing... Finally I pressed and held.... and it worked. So, that was something new and unexpected.

CHomeConfig, when installed, made my JACK run real slow. It seemed as if it was thinking; as if there was some taxing program running in the background. The panels would move real slow. I uninstalled it, and it went back full speed.

Also, when installed, one panel would always be invisible when collapsed. There would just be nothing there but empty space. When it was the main panel, it was fine, but when the panel above it or below it was the main panel, there was empty space where the collapsed panel should have been.

As far as Titanium vs. Chome? The ability to move outside the panels... You can customize the panels to put data above or below the panel; you aren't just confined to the space within the panel. Thus, you could make the layout take up the full screen, and not just a small space.

Ever noticed how using the i.e. shortcut in the programs menu always forces ie mobile back to the home page?

Most programs just open/come into the foreground when you use their icons but not ie mobile. Even if its open and you use the shortcut to switch to it, it goes back to the home page.

To remove this behavior just go to /windows/start menu

Open the internet explorer.lnk's properties

and change the target from "/windows/wifibrowser.exe about:blank" to "/windows/iexplore.exe"

And you're done :)

Considering the Elecont panel is a third party app and not a custom panel you created, you may want to take into consideration that Elecont Weather is not Windows Mobile 6.5 supported. I don't think the Windows upgrade changed anything with the sliding panels. Have you tried reinstalling with the latest version of Elecont that was released last week?

after the upgrade to 6.5, you have to reinstall the ClearSecurity.cab and then provision it. I provision mine to security off, but I don't use Lotus Notes, so I can't help more than that.

I've set up the navigator button for this.

Basically you find \windows\AT&T Navigator.lnk and edit the properties so that it points to "\windows\voicecommand.lnk".

Are your Connections settings locked? Go to your Settings menu and under Connections look at the GPRS settings. If you see little locks on them, you will need to unlock them. They are locked in the registry. Go to HKLM > Comm > ConnMgr > Providers. Here you will see several keys. Find the one that has the Connections key. Within that key, you will have the keys for the AT&T IMS, ISP, and Media Net settings. Within each of those keys there will be a DWORD value named ReadOnly. Changing the value on these from "1" to "0" will unlock the settings. Also, one of the keys in Providers will have the key for AT&T Wap. You can do the same with it as well.

This sounds like AT&T may have put in some additional security since doing this was not needed with 6.1 and the default connections, using AT&T ISP, are already in place. The fact that there are no default settings and you were getting a block error is a good indicator of this. I am running 6.1 and can tell you, all you have done would get it working in 6.1 without any further steps. You need someone whom is running 6.5 and has it working to come along and confirm that it does in fact work and if any additional steps are required with 6.5.

Thank you

The shutter sound is registered at HKCU>ControlPanel>Sounds>ShutterSound. You can try changing the file name in the registry to *none*, with the asterisks. It didn't work with my Windows phone. What I did was google a silent wav file and save it to my computer. I then renamed it the exact name as my shutter sound file and dropped a copy into my windows folder on the phone. It will tell you that a file with that name already exists and ask if you want to replace it. Just click yes and then reboot the phone. Then when you use your camera, it will still play the shutter sound, but it will be the sweet sound of silence. Then only downside is you will not be able to toggle it on and off. Also, you may want to keep an orginal copy of your shutter sound file in a different location on your phone or on your PC, just incase you ever want your shutter sound back.

I upgraded to 6.5 soon after it was released and I was able to successfully unlock everything just as I had in 6.1. If I follow you right, you say you're not able to see or change settings in Internet Sharing?

Interestingly enough, I am not really having any problems with 6.5. I have installed several apps from Marketplace, plus some of my own - with no conflicts or anything. Yes, that's correct...internet sharing opens but the settings are blank.

I'm sort of grasping here, I tried resetting the registry...didn't help.

The first thing I would do is a hard reset. Do you know how to access the Admin Settings to do a reset? There are 3 options of resets in those settings - I would do all 3 to make sure it surely reset everything. Make sure you back up everything on your phone though.

If that doesn't work, I really don't know what to tell you. I wondered recently what would happen if I tried to reinstall the 6.5 update if it's already on the phone. That may be an option, but I think I would call Samsung before attempting that one.

If you need hacks for this phone let me know - I have a lot. I have also unlocked this phone to use with other carrier sim cards without a problem.

I'll look around a bit more to see if I can figure out your issue. Sorry I'm not any more help.

Ever since I upgraded to 6.5, my home screen has been slow to "render". When the display is off, if I press a button my background will show up, but it takes 1-3 seconds for the interface to show up (time, messages, etc)
I haven't really modified anything, and it has been doing that ever since the upgrade before I even had a chance to make changes. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using the default Windows slider-style menus.

Here's a few for now... (I did all these after I installed ClearSecurity cab and deleted ForcedCellConnection in registry)

to do a reset of the phone (reset to original settings and format the phone:
- go to Admin Settings by typing *#1546792*#
- choose option 4.Internal. (the #2 selection - Preconfiguration - uses the same passcode mentioned in the next line)
- you will the need to type another passcode - *#81230*#
- choose 1.Reset
- you will have 3 choices. Whenever I have done a reset, I go through all of these so I know everything is deleted and reset.

be careful experimenting with the other selections in Admin Settings... I'm not familiar with all of it and don't know what all will happen if some settings are changed.

to view the lock status information menu type *#7465625#
Some things may be enabled or disabled in this menu.
click this link to view the procedure for "unlocking" procedure.

Hi Charge1313,

How do I make it so I can edit the internet explorer.lnk?

Right now I can see the target with the about:blank, and it will let me select the text, but not edit it.

Thanks for any help. I am about to go mad over this reload thing!

I got my i637 Jack yesterday and seem to notice something similar. Some caller-ids show up and some dont. I have yet to notice a trend. Some of my Rogers friends' number show up and some dont. My work number shows up. If I call from Skype to my phone, that shows up. I am on Rogers. Dont know why some would show up and some wont.

Has anyone tried to modify the registry to where the stupid AT&T gif(?) doesn't run so the phone can loadup/shutdown quicker? If successful, how? I tried once, but it failed (miserably)?

Install the fido rom?

I just upgraded my phone to the 6.5 firmware. But I still have the same Caller ID issue. Is there a Fido rom available for 6.5 that would maybe fix my caller id issue?

I did a bit more research and it seems that the Radio is not able to parse the MDMF (Multiple Data Message Format) or SDMF (Single Data Message Format) data. Basically MDMF is used to send the Caller ID + Name and SDMF is used to send just caller ID. I wont go into more technicalities, however, without Rogers releasing a ROM for this phone, we wont get the RIL.DLL or the RILGSM.DLL files which do this parsing and display the caller id and/or name. Its weird because Rogers and AT&T should be using the same MDMF/SDMF format to send the caller ID data...but there could be very slight differences on how the networks operate.

It worked fine on mine.

I just installed the ClearSecurity.cab on the Jack. Hooked it to my PC, ran the Security Center thing and provisioned it unlocked. Then I uninstalled the SOTI Clear Secuirty. Everything works fine.

I don't know how to trouble shoot much... sorry. But, maybe if we find the link on the instructions it might help. Maybe?

Here, try this:

When you got Clearsecurity, did you install it onto the device in My Documents and not on the Storage Card? That maybe your problem. Once you get it installed onto the device, use PMH Registry Editor, and go to HKLM>Comm>Internet Sharing>Settings then hit the left key under where it says kets to get the ForceCellConnection string. Next, hit menu and delete. THat's it. Just make sure you uninstall MOBI Control Center, or whatever the name is, and your good to go.

Hey, does anyone know how to get the phone to still use the mic on the device when I have headphones plugged in?

My jack came with a 3.5 mm adapter and I use it for music with headphones... But I'm forced to unplug whenever I get a call because the phone will NOT use the built in mic with headphones plugged in. I can hear the sound through the headphones buy the person on the other side can't hear my voice.

I believe its because the phone assumes that the headphone/adapter setup is a full fledged hands-free and thinks it has mic (which it doesn't)

I doubt this will take more than a registry hack to fix.... If not a simple setting somewhere...

Anybody?

Please?

You need a registry editor. I prefer total commander, its a program for your phone.

You may also use CeRegEditor - its a program for your computer and lets you edit the phone's registry via an activesync connection.

If you are uncomfortable with registry hacks (there is always the small chance that you will kill a phone by doing something stupid by mistake) you can use a program called 'jacktweak' by a company called careace (I think). It lets you apply a few hacks including letting you change the ringtone size limit to 16 Mb

Bear in mind that all of these (I am not 100% sure though) require the phone to be unlocked.

Search around on google and these forums - the programs are easy to find, the hacks simple to apply and unlocking your phone is a 2 minute procedure.

I hope I answered your question.

Instead of Vlingo, when tapping the Silent Key I want to start Voice Notes straight to "Record" function (like Dictaphone). Does anyone know a tweak?
(I already upgraded to WM6.5 and changed the media web button to skyfire, and the att gps to garmin)

Also, on my previous HTC Tilt there was a button on the side, which when I tapped it the display turns off and the device goes to 'sleep' stand-by mode (keys, screen don't respond, until there is phone call to wake up the device). On the i637 the button on the side doesn't do that - when I tap it it goes to shut down and such shortcut menu. Does anyone know how to tweak it to behave like the Tilt? (put it to sleep).
[Right now I have to wait like 30 secs before the device puts itself to sleep, so I just hold down the end button to 'lock' it and then put it in my pocket]

Do you think that the reason why you have to hold on the power button longer in order to start-up the device (after upgrading to WM6.5) is because somehow there are two sets of instructions for the phone to go by? [one is the old/stock 6.1 set of instructions, and one is the new 6.5 set)? If yes, then is there a way to completely remove the 6.1 (initial/stock stuff)? But yet, my HTC Tilt also has to be held down when booting up, and that was like that out of the box. Don't know if ATT did the upgrading on the Tilt to 6.1 though. But I do know that the Tilt that I have was ATT upgraded from 6.0 to 6.1 just don't know how they did it. Just mentioning the Tilt for comparison purposes. I need support only on i637.

Anyone knows any good (free) Pocket Dictionary for Smart Phone (non-touch screen)?

I just noticed this, since it is the first time that I actually went To MS Office, (and I went to it for the 1st time, after WM6.5 upgrade, so no i637 6.1 experience to compare). The MS Office WORD & Excel don't have any way to start a 'NEW' word or excel sheet. It just goes into browsing mode like searching for files. So I immediately went to the HTC Tilt and the Office to compare, and sure enough- for Tilt there IS a choice to start 'NEW' Word and Excel. In i637 the only 'NEW' choice is to start a 'New One NOTE' but not for Word or Excel. Any tweak, suggestions, comments?

Can someone post a working .cab for Smart Phone (non-touchscreen), turning the Jack i637 into a hot spot functionality, like the IPhone (announced as MyWi) ?

Did anyone figure out a tweak for the battery percentage? (% is not showing).

How can I start uninstalling some of the AT&T clutter, including successfully removing the start-up/shut-down AT&T 3g animation?

This post is getting way to long. Should we start a summary post? or can anyone summarize everything on the first page? especially from post#40 is awesome!

I have to admit that i637, though a non-touchscreen device, has so far many advantages over the Tilt. For one thing, I find it a lot faster and more convenient in the hand/pocket.

I think the silent key points to /windows/start menu/vlingo.lnk

You can edit that link to start the voice recorder. If you want it to start recording on pressing the silent key you can use mortscript. Have a script start up recorder, wait a few hundred ms and then hit the correct softkey. Its fairly easy. Doing this makes sense to me too... so if I create it I'll post it here (or somewhere on these boards). But don't wait up and try it yourself.

I do the same - and I can't see the actual difference - the battery life you'll gain is negligible. There are more than a few apps which will sleep your phone though and you might want to get one which will lock and sleep your phone. You might want to use mortscript to do this too... Its up to you.

I seriously doubt it - OSs (including windows mobile) just don't work like that. I guess the hold down was a choice based on some logical reasoning of theirs (to prevent accidental start up or something weird...). It doesn't bother me personally. You can manually remove all the crapware AT&T loads. I've removed all the silly stuff from /program files/ and from the start menu.

There is a program (from MoDaCo) called DoNew. It adds this functionality.

The other way of doing this is to keep a blank word and excel documents on the phone and simply copy them whenever you need a new doc.

Its silly, i know but this has been a know weakness of office for smartphone for as far back as I can tell...

I'm pretty sure it exists. Try installing the pocket pc versions - they will usually work

Did anyone figure out a tweak for the battery percentage? (% is not showing).

I've noticed this as well. One way around is to install a 3rd party battery app. I am not aware of any tweaks - if you find one, please post :)

How can I start uninstalling some of the AT&T clutter, including successfully removing the start-up/shut-down AT&T 3g animation?

I've removed all the AT&T apps I didn't need from the start menu and from /program files. There are ways to remove the start-up animation etc.. you'll have to search a bit.

One tip: hacks and apps meant for the blackjack phones usually work on the jack too... exercise a little caution and common sense when using them but they will usually work.

This is how you do it (I found this on WMExperts forum, I am still going to test it, to make sure it works for non-touchscreen) Note: Being that this phone is non-touchscreen, some of the Pocket PC apps don't work right! Regarding the dictionary, there is smartphone version called PocketDict but it is not free... Also I tried using the Pocket Dictionary 2.5 (which I use on the Tilt) and it doesn't work, because i637 is non-touchscreen. I am sick right now (cough and flue) so very easily agitated when things get harder. That's why I am looking for the easy.

Quoting WMExperts on the DoNew:
No touchscreen. You can only edit Office documents out of the box. You can create new Office documents using a free app called Modaco DoNew which can be found here.

Ok so I unlocked my phone, I read every post about the phone in this category. It seems like no one brought this up. I know there's a program you can buy called RepeatAlert LED or something like that, but there has to be a setting somewhere on the phone to make it repeat continuously. Maybe somewhere in the reg?

2nd Question, Since with Total Commander you can pretty much edit anything, has anyone successfully removed all the AT&T bloatware? If so, can you share with the rest of us what stuff we need to delete.

BTW, this is a great forum. I used it quiet a bit when I had my old HTC Tilt, just never really posted until now.

Opera mobile 10 beta 3 with support for the samsung jack (among other non-touchscreen WM phones) is out.

However the fonts/zoom level needs tweaking.

Anyone who might need help doing this might want to check this out:

i have read this entire thread, (all 15 pages so far). and i cannot get my i637 jack unlocked. i have tried every method and i am able to load and install cabs, but am unable to edit/delete the .wav files in /windows. i CAN deselect the hidden/write protect box, but once you close and reopen they default to locked. if there is something that is out there that i haven't tried can someone please fill me in? i'm not an expert but i'm no noob either. i successfully changed registry values in my last samsung (blackjack 2) and was quite happy. i mostly just want to silence the startup/shutdown and camera shutter. all the other hacks i want have been successful.

thanks in advance

@whitekid... writing something up as I type. BTW, I'd just connect your phone to your computer to do the removals. Much quicker than from the phone.

\Application Data\Home remove all AT&T,BlackJack & Samsung-- unless you like their themes
\Application Data\Security Configuration Manager (not needed once unlocked)
\Application Data\vlingo
\MUSIC (allgoodthings & thebuenavibrasoundsystem can be deleted)
\My Documents\My Pictures (these pics can be deleted)
\PdbInfo (not needed once unlocked)
\Program Files\ATTNAV
\Program Files\EA (this directory or at least scrabble & tetris if you have other games in there)
\Program Files\Instant Messaging
\Program Files\Jewel Quest II
\Program Files\Mobile Banking
\Program Files\mSpot
\Program Files\MusicID
\Program Files\MyCast
\Program Files\Vlingo
\Program Files\Windows Media Player\samsung stuff
\SOTI (not needed once unlocked)
\Storage\Program Files\AT&T
\Windows\Favorites (delete all here unless you want any of these)
\Windows\Start Menu\
folders: appcenter & at&T music
files: at&t navigator, at&t wifi(i think this is actually a benefit if you don't have a data plan), IM, online locker
\Windows\StartUp\Vlingo (must delete this 1st then reboot before able to remove programfiles\vlingo above)

and finally, navigate to the feed reader on the phone (not thru explorer) & delete the default feeds

\Windows\Start Menu\Games (all except for bubble breaker- it's a default Windows Mobile app. requires no data plan)
... I personally move all of my installed applications into games or applications folders to make for easier navigation

\Windows\Start Menu\Applications (ebay, get xpress mail, mobile banking, my-cast weather, mobitv, vlingo, wikimobile

I haven't clicked on each file in the \windows folder to try to delete them but as much as I have they've been read-only

Most of the files/folders above should be obvious to remove. I can write up a registry steps post too. It's biggest benefit is completely killing all options of using a data plan- well, for me at least as I purchased my phone before AT&T required data plans on all smartphones

... and finally, go to the start menu, applications, RSS reader (thru the phone menus, not a file explorer) & delete the default RSS feeds. I don't know if this is a default MS app so I've always left it.

@whitekid- on registry cleaning, after dinking with cleaning up my phone this time I feel like it would be onerous to make an all-encompassing registry cleaning document. Files are easy but the registry on a phone performs entirely different functions than a computer. I might be more strict with cleaning since I don't have a data plan, for example. You might, and simply deleting any reference to 'at&t' would hose some functions up.
I think it's best to download ceregeditor & hook your phone up to the computer & navigate around to see what it contains. Any references to the afforementioned apps can be safely removed but once you get into wap.cingular.com connection-type settings I'd practice some discretion.

Nothing a reset won't fix though

@superzerobob- on a free dictionary app try mdict (http://www.octopus-studio.com/product.en.htm)

I created a wiki on the XDA-Wiki page for our phone

found here (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Jack).

It'd be nice if we could reference this in the first post of this thread and start filling it up.

Hey everyone I'm a newbie and wanted to inform you that I've read the entire thread and have not found the solution to my problem.

I'm running 6.5 and have installed the latest versions of google maps and bing. Both of them are unable to locate my gps, bing is useless and showing me in Seattle while I'm in Dallas and Google Maps gets me withing 900m due to the cell tower but can't find my gps.

The settings are set to Default windows but I'm unable to find which com and baud rate the gps is on.

Any suggestions? I have an unlimited data plan so I don't worry about the aGPS or GPS running when I need it to.

Your help would be greatly appreciated, I googled and found a hack for BJII and tried to download and installed but was not able to get it installed via modaco...

Thanks!

Here's something I found. Find an application file in the \windows folder on your phone called GPStest. I had my phone connected through activesync and did this with my PC. Create a shortcut to this file in the My Documents folder so it's easy to find.
WHen you run it select Menu, then select Option, then select GPS. Change the Operating type to stand-alone, assited, or MS Based --- whichever one works the best for you.

There's also an application in the same folder called gpsoneapp.exe. It has all kinds of settings on there that I'm not familiar with. I haven't had any problems with my gps so I haven't messed with them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, I tried the hack on the first page of this thread to get tethering, after I removed security as instructed I installed the modaco that I had find for bj 2 and changed my gps settings in google maps to manual COM 4 at 19200 baud rate, works like a champ and finds 11 sattelites within seconds, bing works too!

I've had the phone for 2 weeks now and discovered after charging for 3 hours it always dies overnight with little to no usage so ordered a new battery, hope that helps. I always checked my taskmanager and didn't have anything running but it would always kill my battery!

In the Windows folder is a file called GPSTest.exe. Run that. It may take a long time, but after you hit START it should eventually find GPS satellites.

When you load Google Maps, make sure you select the setting for GPS in the menu to make sure you are using the satellites and not just cell towers.

While you can't save them to a txt file or something, you can easily archive everything in a few clicks and still have access to them online later if needed.

There is a program (from MoDaCo) called DoNew. It adds this functionality.

The other way of doing this is to keep a blank word and excel documents on the phone and simply copy them whenever you need a new doc.

Its silly, i know but this has been a know weakness of office for smartphone for as far back as I can tell...

go to HKLM > Comm > ConnMgr > Providers Here you will see several keys. Find the one that has the Connections keys. Within that key you will have the keys for AT&T IMS, ISP and Media Net settings. Within each of those keys there will be a DWORD value named Enable. Changing the value on these from "1" to "0" will prevent the 3G from automatically kicking in everytime you do attempt to do anything data related. You can go back and turn the "0"s to "1"s when you want to use data again... [in case of an emergency]

Does anyone know how to make the mobile web key do nothing when I press it? I never use mobile web and I sometimes press it and it lags the phone.

I posted this on another site also, but here is what worked for me:

For all looking to change the predefined function keys on the Samsung Jack set by ATT, (I do not take any responsibility for the registry editing you do):

1) Unlock the phone and get a registry editor.

2) open the registry (I use mobile Registry Editor)

3) go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE => Software => Samsung => KeyRun

=> 6 Key Settings => 1 FN Key Settings => Show List
e) you will see that "C" is no longer there
f ) select: Menu => Add
g ) select the key you would like to assign the function (example "C")
h ) In the Value box select the program to run (example "calculator")
i ) now when you press "function C" the calculator will run.

You can set it to a non-existent exe and nothing will happen when you press the button.

There was problem and i had to master reset (by pressing 5 while switching on).

It has gone back to its app unlocked status now.

Unfortunately when i run Clearsecurity and then try to provision the security configuration manager (in my windows 7 pc), it says:

"your device configuration is a two-tier prompt. the configuration does not allow you to install certificates in this device.

to change configuration of the device.... pl contact your mobile operator"

i even tried running the tools.cab manually in the phone, but it says "installation unsuccessful. cannot be installed b'coz it does not have sufficient system permissions"

what the heck..? i did it about 6 months back and everything till then was working like a breeze.

also on a different note, i want to thank the gentleman who created the cabs for tzone. it resolved the setting problems.

I could definitely use those hacks. Can you email them on here ? Not sure just signed up a sec ago. Thanks.

Go to youtube. There's a video tutorial on how to do everything but this site won't let me post a link.

hey guys, how do you add favorites in the Home Screen?

If I select the Favorites panel, move to the section that says 'Add/Remove' and click on 'Change' nothing happens.

Do you guys have the same problem?

Thanks

Is there any way to remove the AT&T bloatware from this phone? I don't use them and they are just taking up space I can otherwise utilize.

So I may be a bit behind, but ive recently decided I want to unlock my i637 to run apps like wmwifirouter and I've been having issues with wm 6.5 saying that that installation was unsuccessful, blah blah. I bought an unlock code, but all the instructions I've found are pretty useless and don't seem to be very accurate. Any guidance on one or both issues would be appreciated...

Hi all. I'm pretty new to all this, but I've managed to unlock the security and get the phone working the way I want it to. One thing I noticed though, I tried to use Slacker Radio on it and it doesn't look like the app works properly for the Jack. Is anyone else having the same problem? Also, if there isn't a fix for it, does anyone have a suggestion for free internet radio we can use with this phone. Thanks in advance.

I'm to the point of screaming and beating on this thing with a hammer now. I've tried total commander and no matter what I do I can't get it to save the tweak so it doesn't always hijack IExplorer back to the home page. Please Help!!!

Wondering if you know how to get rid of the MobileWeb app in the jack. I've already removed the security and had some success removing the other Att preinstalled apps (telenav, mobile banking, N all that), but I just can't seem to find where the full app is hiding. The about page says it is actually the opera mini midlet. But I just can't seem to find where its hidden. Any suggestions?
