I am in the middle of trying to upgrade to nfsfans 6.5 v12. I hav gotten the rainbow, and then plugged the usb cable in as per instructions. Next steps says to make a connection with activesync, but activesync doesn't do anything when I plug the cable in. So then I go to connection settings on activesync and click the connect button there, but it still doesn't connect. I am afraid to go any farther. Any help is greatly appreciated and when I get all this stuff down, I will def give back to this community cause I can see this being as addictive as crack

Umm I think your misreading the instructions. After you plug in the USB cable it will say usb on the bottom. Than just run the romupdateutility in your nfsfan download.

that is perfect. It goes from serial to USB as soon as I plug it in, but then the next step in ruu.exe says to make an activesync connection. But when I pull up activesync, it says not connected. no matter what I do, it just says not connected

First, get out of boot loader mode (Rainbow)
Then, let phone fully boot into windows mobile (version currently installed)
Then, once phone is booted, plug it in and let active sync connection connect.
Then, run the rom update.
Rom update will update and switch to boot mode itself

t1mman misstated the instructions. When the ROM update utility says to achieve an activesync connection, ignore it. You can flash from the rainbow bootloader screen as long as your USB cord is plugged in.
NFSFAN specifically requests you do so. Also, many members of the forum suggest you repeat this procedure three times each time you flash, which seems to give you a more stable system.
So, to reiterate: flash three times from the bootloader, don't use activesync.

This is still giving me the same error262.....any other ideas....I notice that the status bar never goes past 0%, and when it says 'Veryifing Information on PDA, it doesn't find anything. The only time it had any numbers on top was when I ran the ruu.exe directly from being logged into winmo6.1 It actually showed the image version or whatever it is, and what I would be changing it to a little lower on the screen.

Have you installed the unlocked bootloader? Coke2.31

Haha, active sync isn't needed... it should just show up as an htc device or something, then run the ROM update... all it has to say is USB on the bottom of the device.
if you can't get it to work, just use the SD card method.

OK....this is gonna be a writeup for the unlocker 2.31 and error 262 crap. It seems this is where I had all of my troubles as well as most others I searched for previously trying to find an answer. Everything after that was a breeze. So here goes.
DO NOT....I REPEAT DO NOT extract the coke unlocker 2.31 file. This is where I was screwing up. Inside the extracted file there is an Rom Update Utility.exe I was trying to run that and it turns out this was the problem. You only want to run the unextracted unlocker 2.31 file. See below
1)Boot up your mobile device fully. Make sure it establishes a solid activesync connection so it can sync everything before you continue. Then unplug your USB cable.
2)Set your phone into bootloader mode(power, camer, stylus hole@bottom). It should be a rainbow colored screen and say serial at the bottom.
3)Plug your USB cable back in. Your phone should change from saying serial to USB at the bottom, although you this will NOT make an activesync connection. This is not a problem. Make sure it goes to USB at the bottom. If it doesn't change from serial to USB, this won't work.
4)Double-click the UNEXTRACTED coke 2.31 unlocker file. A command prompt box should come up on your PC.
5)Follow all instructions in the command prompt box EXACTLY. Make extra sure to disconnect and reconnect the phones USB cable when the instructions state to do so.
6)After all steps in the command prompt box have been followed, the phone will reboot into your original OS...whatever that may be, just like normal.
7)After your phone fully boots, put it back in bootloader mode(power, camera, stylus hole@bottom) again. This time, you should see coke 2.31 on the rainbow screen. This means the unlocking process was successful.
8)Then just follow whatever directions you have for your new OS flash. Mine were from NFSFAN's WinMo6.5v12 and those directions worked perfectly!

well good thing you only have to run unlocker once, after that, you can flash new rom's as much as you want
