!!!!!Setting up the ROM and SYS!!!!!

First of all:
As we most know there is a NATIVE NK from Da_G but even if I try to get it working as is... i cant... so Utak3r has been edited the OEMXIPKERNEL and its so good. Thanks man this is Great!!!

This is just the XIP port... for 21815 build but as we must know:

OEMXIPKERNEL is the Kernel part that is device specific designed for... so we just gonna use this folder and of course... the "Romhdr.bin" and "os.nb.payload"

(so with this info we have the part of the kernel for every build we think to make) keep this files safe cause we gonna use it always. the xip.bin is not needed cause is not the meaning of this tutorial to port the XIP... so the kitchen wil ask for the file, instead that we dont want to port, so use the xip.bin that is on the build 23001 check the pic bellow.

The MSXIPKERNEL is the build OS specific kernel part... so...

The kitchen will takes the OEMXIPKERNEL (the native NK by Utak3r) and the MSXIPKERNEL for the build to be compiled, and we could have the kernel complete.

The MSXIPKERNELLTK folder (Logo Tool Kit) Is not needed, it has just a .DSM that allows the carrier to make important fixes and upgrades to thir ROMs (But even they didnt use it) so we dont need it anymore.


Well... we gonna set the kitchen with the BUILD 23001 so download the Port from TAI_Sw thanks a lot man! it was a great suport you had to all of us here!!

Pay attention on the place you put folders the name of the tree folder will gives you the correct place, so in the pics bellow i set at ""LEFT"" how it should be at finish and in the ""RIGHT"" the tree only for reference.

NOTE: if you see a folder on the original build ported address that you have miss to organize please ask or read again and see the pictures again. (I dont know what does the folders are for, well... maybe lots of them i knew, some others i dont...)

Certainly, the kitchen ask for the OEM_LANG_0409 package and i thing all the others so... paste the whole OEM to this kitchen from the josh's kitchen.

(NOTE: For other devices.... That folders OEMDRIVERS OEMoperatorspkg,OEM LANG, can get that folders if you dump a stcok rom that is the most recommended if not... you can download a kitchen for your device that kitchen must have this folders)

WHOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! we finish!!!!!!!!! its already set! so this is the kitchen UI, if everything was ok the kitchen launch without troubles if you saw an error check the folders it says (SVN folders don cause troubles at starting the build proces) SO just set the device, XIP, SYS EXT and OEM and select the apps to be installed or not clickng double. BTW i edit the build_rom.bat in the tools folder to make it for Hermes there is an option to set the ULDR but i cant figured out how to use it on hermes... the UI may change on every update so...

Many Times we can xpend hours searching for EXT or OEM packages for QVGA that works with WM6.5 or 6.1, Well this post is to fill it with them just to get them fast enough to have time for sleep :p

If you want to share some packages... please you can post your package with a simple screenshot of the app, OS Compatible, and a lil description, I cant post warez so... if you think it is... dont even post it its better you pm me and investigate the source, I would like to post only the thested and working packages for QVGA and works for Hermes.

i cant understand the way to set this kitchen to work! hahaha so hopefully all the chefs here turns to this awsome to get this thing working! its naked! but i will continue this...! keep in touch!!! :D

Its truth we must to edit the images on the wm6.5 to a simplest img... when I edit them to a high def or prettier the ram decrease considerably.

BTW wich modules and dlls can deleted.. processes and so much more it could be great to know... in devices with large RAM and ROM the WM6.5 is simply awsome. 128/256.

good job with this. i seem to have everything set up properly now other than the SYS. a little more info on what goes where would be handy. my first thoughts on this kitchen are that its too complicated to set up but im still looking forward to trying this out. i got some good ideas for my next rom and i intend to do it with this dispite having my current kitchen set up perfectly just for the challenge :)

Well the trouble was that we forgot to include the OEM_lang_0409 in OEM folder exactly on the same rout as Josh's so we must to use all the Josh's OEM folders and packages to build the rom cause the initflash files is there the oem operators are there... and many more important modules and files for the build. the tutorial was edited and fixed... so is ready to try.

im trying to build a new home edition and the kitchen keeps on deleting the .bak files making the home 2 program not work properly. :mad::mad::mad::mad: i also can get the start menu to open. going to try with titanium but need to work out why its deleting those files and how to stop it. anyone got any clues?

I have not edited any bat file. BTW the tool itself rewrites the kichen_build_rom.bat every time you press create rom button.

You are right. The problem was with the OEM folder. Tried Oem from some other kitchen & it worked all right.

BTW you were talking about editing .Bat file. Can you please explain in detail??

Mergilo use this to set the nbmerge to Hermes... if used

IMGstart uses this if you plann to use the reducting ULDR partition process... its hard and i cant figured out how to do it... BTW it just allows you to use 3MB more...

PP- pagepool i use 6 or 8 set whatever you want... but I think the xipporterexe dont works cause i cant feel the diferences...

Well I cooked a ROM using your full 23001 download and it loads but the windows screen never comes up. Like its not loading the theme. I can see the top bar but thats it really I cant access the start menu or anything its just stuck there with the boot screen as the background.

I'm not sure if its the da_g modification or not but how would I go back to the normal nk.exe?

Why dont you try to build the rom as is, clean, the normal OEM from Josh's Think about the commmanager and some other stuff needed in EXT packages and build it... in that case you can have an answer about it was due to something added.

You can go back to the normal NK by deleting the OEMXIPKERNEL folder the os.nb.payload and the romhdr.bin if you wish delete the xip.bin too and paste the OEMXIPKERNEL from 21222 kitchen from Joshkoss the xip.bin, romhdr.bin and payload too.

i may have worked this out. it would appear these files become .xml's maybe if i take the xml's from the my latest home edition then edit the oem or ext ive to have the files they become instead. i will test this tomorow as its 1am here and i got a 12 hour shift starting in 9 hours

i worked this problem out. my theory is the kitchen didnt like these files as they have two diferent file formats in the name .xml.bak. now in the home 2 ext these files become the .xml's that control the applets and what contacts and programs are in the favorites tabs so i replaced the files with the .xml's edited the app.dat file in the ext and hey presto a fully working aplication :)

Sweet dude. ill give this a crack. theres a few little things i dont like about 23001. just that it doesnt show the battery icon even when the clock feature is turned off and the x button is a bit fiddley. hope this ones a bit more finger friendly in that respect. either way nice work man :) btw nice to see this thread a sticky now. just shows how much this thread was needed

yes the 23001 dont switch betwen clock or battery even if you use the advanced config! so sad but... you could touch on the batt icon on task bar and it shows the batt setting in 23004 you cant! cause the image for the higlight takes part of the clock or batt icon so it dont shows nothing and is like tapping the X... is something like this:

Hi there! I'm currently using my own cooked ROM 23001 build, (thanks to all of you guys)

My only problem is that I'm cant increase the total RAM (I only have 39.96MB).
And after a whole day of use of this build, my RAM drop to less than 10MB. BTW all apps have been stripped off on this build and same problem encountered on 23004.

Can anyone point me on the right direction to increase my RAM max capacity? on where can I modify it? I already tried modifying the pagepool size using the Ervius kitchen's tool but no avail. Have also tried using pagepool changer tools on build 23001 and 23004 but the application cant read the .nbh file because it is encrypted.

I'm totally lost in here...

BTW.. It's my first time doing this cooking thing and I'm still a noob..

The less value in the PP you must to use with 6.5 is "6" on four nothing runs well and with more than 8 it becomes faster but low momery.

so use 6 or 8

I'm using New ervius visual bepe's kitchen version 1.6.
I already tried editing the batch file for the PP but I still having the same RAM. I even tried 16MB. :)
It seems the existing PP tools can't modify the new 23xxx build. I'm able to do this on the older builds.
If only we know the address..and changing it manually using hex editor app but I can't find the thread discussing this. :)

I even tabulate the RAMs on different Builds I have created. :)
The most stable is 20270 for 6.1 and 21728 for 6.5.

1. Splashscreen bottom part has been cut off on the radio/os ver text part.
2. Removing the User/Owner text on the bottom part of Settings->System->About page.

Will try to figure out this one or find threads for this.

Yup! I'm using the kitchen you posted on the 1st page. I've created 2 splashscreens, 1 for the main splash and 2nd for the subsplash and both looks like that. I embedded the 2 .nb file by adding it in the kitchen batch file.

Its like the ROM/Radio/etc ver text is overlapping the image part.

if i remember correctly to change the by josh xda product you need to hex edit the shellres.dll.0409.mui in medkid col in the oem\common folder. i found the search button didnt work so you need to search it manualy and it takes a while

The solution is to merge my customized splash screen and the padding.nb into one.

Well, I took the plunge and went straight from Josh's automated kitchen to ervius' kitchen and tried cooking and it apparently works this time around.

A few questions tho:
- I get errors about CHomeWeatherConfig and CHomeCalendarUpdate cannot be opened. Rightly so, those appeared as blank spaces with blocks on the home screen.
- I cannot open the start menu. Touch screen response is also a little sluggish.

I did remove some stuff from Josh's EXT packages while cooking, because I didn't need them and wanted space for other stuff.

Did I cook something the wrong way?

I add plugins via first customization inserting the cabs into OEMOPPERATORS folders and changing the config.txt, almost all the plugins use mortscript so maybe you need to instal first the weather then the others via cab on function rom.

OK nice one... the padding missed! as you can see nohctis found why his splash screens shows that white square... so i recommend you to follow the ROMdonalds kitchen tutorial to change the splash screen... it does the trick scotyy93

Nononoi mean that the image for the X button is enlarge so maybe thats the problem the 23004 build or some others that the batt cant be pusshed... but i can remember that i saw a fix for it, but i dont remember where.

looks like the weather app will have to be delayed for now :( The problem with home2 applets is the developers all like to use the the same names for theyre images and they all get stored in the windows folder when cooked in. to get it to work with the other app ive added ill have to edit the code to make it look for different file names or work out how to place them somewhere else by editing the app.dat. considering i had to make the ext packages up from scratch as home 2 apps dont come as cabs i aint complaining too much :D i also now have a much greater understanding of how home 2 works so now i can go crazy with it. Now the fun begins ;)

EDIT: Worked out what id done wrong id just got the directories wrong while making the app.dat. its easily fixed

What i would do is download the kitchen for the device you want to use .bat for and use same commands, just put in your kitchen. :)

i would use same syntax as in existing kitchens.. look and see if has syntax you can replace with in working kitchens .bat. that is how i made my hermes kitchen work for kaiser..

I would change the -kaiser to -hermes if you are working in hermes device yes

I downloaded working kaiser kitchen.
Looked in .bat file for commands.. and changed my hermes.bat file to match same commands as working kaiser kitchen.

cab manager wont install. it says i need msxml 4.0 and thats not compatible with vista. :mad: i hate this damm os. its gotta be the worst thing ever released for pc. shame as the apps i want to make cabs for dont have reg edits. its just making it get placed in the right file. got a few this would have helped for as well

cheers dude. just wondering do you know what .bat i would need to edit to allow my next 6.5 stock like rom to be dumped? thanks to jwzg i know in older kitchens you need to edit the create_rom.bat and delete these lines
delete boot.hv
delete default.hv
allpackagestoone.exe
but this new kitchen doesnt have that .bat or appear to have those lines anywhere

Ps. i had the same problem with 21234 as your having with 23007. it seemed to be problem with the SYS but other people got it working without a problem maybe other people will have more luck with it.

well i did as you said. i have a dump folder and an xip folder. the xip isnt complete. something about it being protceted. its that protection i need to remove for it to be useful for other people to use my rom as a base for theyre own. also do you know how i then get the sys from the dump folder? i assume this would normaly get done after the xip was done but untill i can get rid of that protection i might as well see what else i can do with it

If you plan to cook try to remove the FWUPDATE folder and tell us if your rom boots... if dont boots tell us anyways jajaja

Remember to fully charge your batt cause whe you has a nonBootable rom the batt cant charge.... :(

ye well im gonna change the xip version aswell but i dont have this autoupdate file in my kitchen so it might be the other one that cant be removed

It is FWUPDATE that cant be removed. I experimented alot with 21198 ad what could be removed in the SYS. Just remember as well WINCENLS can be remove but only in some roms and is quite included in the OEM folder in most kitchens. you only need the one though.

Also has anyone managed to get 21921 21925 or 23008 to boot? cant seem to get any of them to work so just wondering if anyones worked out what the issue could be. I have managed to get 23007 from Tai to booting although there is no start menu grid scene files for causing there to be no start menu. no biggie tho as i change mine to the 4 row .cpr anyways

Tried this new kitchen but I'm not happy with the result, ROM i've created won't boot! :)
Back to old kitchen with the same system files and its as good as always.

BTW.. I've managed to make all the builds posted here worked, not sure what I am doing that make it work and some other users having problem with it. Maybe I'm just lucky? :D

What version are you using? im now using arthemus 4.0. It includes all the dll's for all taskbar icons. The start icon if i remember correctly is in the shellres.96.dll so if your using that id check its not being overwitten by the one in the medkid col oem. i personally prefer the vista orb but although i have the tools to edit the dll i dont have the .bmp image of it to edit the icon.

After every ROM EXT OEM SYS folder there must be a folder Called as your device... so... read the tutorail again you will see that there must be a missing folder with the name of your device.

you'd need to get the oemXiP kernal for your device and maybe the dpi and resolution files will be different. if you use the kitchen to dump a rom for the elfin you will find out what all 3 are but building a rom will be exactly the same for any device the kitchen supports

+que i see your planning a release for 23024. i have the files for this already but its very buggy. it seems almost like its a bad port from vga(things like drop down menus are huge). it has the sms bug 23009 had, notifications dont work and the taskbar doesnt allow you to click on the gprs/3g.hsdpa icon to disconnect from the internet. ive also had to change the shell file to get anything to work at all. the main problems are trying to get the taskbar and notifications to work . they just dont wannna play. maybe youll find somthing ive missed so far so good luck

If you see my pic at the end of the tutorial you can see that you need to set again!!!!! hermes device then everything will works... then you can change the Page pool the xip the sys the ext build versions... set your own build number... and of course... enable and disable packages.

Be sure you have all the .Net frameworks installed on your PC till V3.5 and C++ redistributable.

Set real wm6.5 aku checkbox and LZX too... the page pool is into the "other" button I recomend you... betwen 4 to 8 no more no less. happy cooking

The issue in your rom is that you have the old shellres.96.dll
Look at your OEM\medkidcol folder there you must to have the shellress file if is not in you oem packages you must to see in the sys... dunno where use the search tool in windows xp or vista jejej to find that dll

and change it with this... attached everything gonna works fine... the white icons are from the 23022 now that icons are in colors... :p

opened your saved settings.
Without making any change I build a ROM.
I burned the ROM to my phone.

Something is definitely missing or different. I created XDA from scratch on C: drive. Then I copied Mirion's xda into it. I had to reorganize the applications under "C:\XDA\EXT\HERMES\COMMON" (I removed duplicates) but it does work now.

Get +Que PPC's Mirion Kitchen and unpack it on top of the XDA kitchen.

Then go into "XDA\EXT\HERMES\COMMON" and take a look at all the packages. You will see several duplicates. Just remove the duplicates until it all makes sense to you.

The duplicates are there because different people think differently about all the apps. One man's tool is another man's utility, etc.

Building a bootable ROM after this is child's play. Just run "XDA\erviuskitchen.exe", click on "Load ROM" and choose "Mirion_B1 by +QuePPC.erv"

The ROM you create from this should boot just fine. Once you know it boots you can start playing.

After taking just the sys and rom files for the build and adding them to my kitchen i have a booting rom. at first glance i dont like the start menu icon being on the bottom and the startup animation is a bit buggy but now i can play around with it. my next step is to add the medkid col file to it and see what happens from there but for now its time for a celebratory beer :)

the bottom buttons are due to a Onehanded manipulation and if you had a big screen old WM has a lil unconfortable way to use the other hand to get to the X or STrat this way is fingerfreiendly... :p

it makes sense. just a case of getting used to it i suppose. Also just notice on your release for this you say you need to select the theme. if i remember correctly you can set it to run by adding it in the oem operators folder and editing the config.txt. ive never done it myself but ive seen it done on other peoples roms. also did you make the theme yourself? I like it. im also thinking on seeing if i can get the white box for the numbers in the dialer transparent. i think it would look nicer although it might get a bit fiddly if the colors are wrong for being able to see the numbers. Its somthing ive been considering for a while now but just never gotten round to

Yes, I do. That was how I got Mirion to compile. The duplicate apps are not in your Kitchen, they are a result of copying one kitchen on top of another.

just wondering what tool is used for the themes. I use themegen ce and replace the classicblue_stwater but the image is always low quality compared to alot ive found

Never Mind i got the error!!!! dont use or delete the EXT package for SRSWOW it make your rom stay in white screen

BTW i use the exec line you gave me FCW but the customization stucks on it... soft reset needed my luck is to leave it at the end so... the soft reset not means much after a couple mins... at least 10 :( it boots again.. maybe i leave it at the user...! ;)

this is the same problem i had with 23034. i just took the sys and rom out of it and added it to my kitchen for 23028. then took a couple of packages from the your ext and the medkid col from your oem. If you want ill upload my kitchen for you to have a look at. im downloading 23037 to try now. it should boot with the fixed ext folder

ah lol :) well the exec line was worth a try. Ill have a look round and try find out what it is. only other thing i can think of is to treat it like a .cab. after all thats all a tsk file is.

Yes... it works at the end... it works... with the exec but it tooks a while.

I know this is probably posted somewhere else but thought it might be useful there as well.

as you all will know there is a bug with the image sizes of the x ok and flag icons in the bottom taskbar. I have downloaded fixed x and ok images which have just been resized from 32x32 to 16x16. I assume this would also be the fix for the flag icon but i havent done this yet as my custom xp version doesnt even have ms paint but for those who want to try the files are classicblue_bubble_flag_disabled.png and classicblue_bubble_flag.png in sys\(build)\dpi_96\base dpi

It's for people using svn versioning system, which causes creating special subfolders in every folder. Ervius was asked to make it ignoring those folders :)

You see, I prefer ROMs without this whole Titanium and honeycomb stuff, so... but it looks pretty well. I doesn't have those bugs which were present in most of recent builds :)

q1: i am making a chinese rom using the kitchen. I used the chinese initflashfiles.dat from da_g's thread. In the initflashfiles.dat it specifies a chinese name for the start menu, but all the apps in the EXT folder of the kitchen (e.g. skyfire,htc calculator) are placing the shortcuts into the english version of start menu. Is there a way to point those shortcuts back to the chinese version of the start menu?

q2: I am adding mui files in the OEM folder for powerexe.exe,ClearStorage.exe,etc...but as soon as i add those mui files in the OEM folder, it will create errors in NBHUtil. Do you know how to solve it?
