Sell Hermes, upgrade to tilt.... Not likely to be able to make internal memory bigger, limitations of the device. Don't like it, upgrade...

You can lower the pagepool, for example... hermes works really well with 4MB - giving you 51MB of total RAM.

Actually you can set pagepool to zero, device is still pretty responsive if you do not have a lot of bloatware or heavy apps like wisbar or spb mobileshell.

true - but it causes bigger ram usage later... remember that rotating pages of ram is possible only in pagepool!

You mean if I have program X and program Y and they both need a dll Z, it would be loaded twice and thus occupy twice more memory?

no, it's not like that - fortunately :) the shared libraries are loaded always only once.

BUT - what I'm saying is this: if some portion of code, already loaded into memory, is not used for some time, it could be temprarily unloaded, making a space for some other library, which wants to be loaded (by some run application). This operation IS possible - but only in pagepool, it's not possible in normal RAM - resulting more data is loaded at once - unnecesary.

I saw a tool to change the pagepool in .nbh and there were examples o 4mpp, 8, ... my question is should be legal to use any number for example 2mb or 512kb for example? thanx

well - while it CAN be any value - the most reasonable ones are between 4MB and 6MB.

that's true - with this kernel this tool doesn't work - which is really strange, as pp's signature (NKKD8) can be easily found... one have to use for example osnbtool in order to change pp.

THanks you both.
Now whats the impact in RAM (not storage) and speed of using LZX instead of standard compresion?... i have heard that at leats is slower and most of the newly cooked roms for hermes use it. thanx in advance

edit: So the pagepool seems to be like a virtual memory allocation area in the storage(rom) right?...then how this is related to the numbers i see in the virtual memory gauge in schaps task manager 0.7....ive always wanted to know that !!!??
again thanks....some many questions :)

wondering why doenst work in that nk.exe... but the files are so diferent as i Have maaaaaany hour to spend in thi skiand of things i read almost all the S000 and S002 and its way different so in the nk 6.5 only got one NKKD8 string but in 6 to 6.1 has 2 string one at top and one down.

the differences are mostly theoretical and can be seen in synthetic tests. On the daily usage you can't see it - it's a really small impact :) You see - I was using LZX once even on HTC Wizard, which is a significantly slower machine (OMAP850@200MHz).
LZX is really widely used on all other embedded systems :)

yep, it's a very similar process :) And for the second option: I dunno, I'm using FdcSoft TaskManager.

Well - it's just our pp changer is badly written... but it's not a problem for me :)

I dont think it is the PP like the virtual memory... but is posible

If you are runing the schaps... you can check wich PP you have using the PP changer... it tells you before you make changes to the nbh file. ;)

yes shamanix rom is 4mb pp ... Que its just that this number dosent fit with the gauge numbers ...cant see the relationship. so weird !?. but schaps isnt here anymore i think.

Maybe the PP doesnt fit with the Virtual memory nunbers cause it has some more bytes up and down from the main PP value... maybe's not...

Try that i told you... it going to reveal the truth.

32MB? Is it a screenshot from Hermes? I have no idea what it could be... it doesn't look like PP, you wouldn't have any free ram with such pagepool ;)
