2009-07-13: Build 26 with fixed camera posted!
T-Mobile Wing ROM - "Ava"
Hi Everyone. I've been hacking on my own custom ROM for my Wing for a year or so now and after porting over 21051 to it and getting Manila2D working, I am so happy with it that I thought I would share. I named it after my daughter, Ava (that's her in my avatar flipping the bird in utero). You'll find that this ROM has a very generic feel to it. There are no tacky banners or wallpapers with my name on it. Just WinMO 6.1 + Manila2D + a few touch enhancements + several common tweaks.
Anyhow, here are the specifics:

Doh! I just found a major bug. The icons on the camera screen are gone. I either optimized them and the camera can't read them now or I removed them by mistake. The camera screen controls do not work.
I will fix, re-cook and upload the fixed version tonight.

Downloading and flashing...should be up there tomorrow. And as for your Wife, think about Ivan's wife, she probably gets no attention! With all the things Ivan does (JustHome, JustStable, SuperJustKitchen...) the Wife seems to come last!
Hah, just kiddin. Lol, I could imagine how weird she'd think u are if you pick the phone over her! But I can't wait to try out this fresh new ROM...not many new one's lately :(

More ROM details, screenshots, etc, on The Wingster: http://thewingster.com/ava.aspx
You can put that link in the first post, if you'd like.
I really loved the ROM! It works really well, and the scrolling is perfect, not that crappy TouchFlo scrolling. Oh, and MMS worked right away! That's rare.
Dude, I wish you could make more ROM's.

One little mistake I noticed on your site regarding the LZX version. The LZX version doesn't require the SD card method to flash. It is big enough to be flashed with flash center.

You were watching too much of the Boob Toob, eh??
Idk, just restart your phone (hold down the power button). That usually fixes everything if problems arise. And if it doesn't, then, well, we have a real problem.

Would it be difficult to whip up a version without Office? Most people I know don't actually use it. I know I certainly don't, especially not with the Wing. And it's really too big to justify having it there going unused.
Or if you can add it to the ExtROM so it's uninstallable, that'd be sweet too.
I can host it, if hosting is a problem. Or if you just don't feel like doing it, I won't be offended or nothin'. Just figured it doesn't hurt to ask.

There's a fix for the white bar in the Start Menu. It's actually caused by the version of the Enlarged Start Menu that's cooked into the ROM. The fix is simply to install a newer version, IIRC. I dunno. Search around. It's a common problem.

That's weird I've been using this version of enlargestartmenu for ages and never seen that problem.
I will look for the newest version of enlargestartmenu and see about either including it as a cab in the extrom or cooking it in in the future.

OK, i did try and soft reset a few times, this did not fix it..... but i see a few others are having the same issue so i will look for the updated version. thank you all for the quick replies. BTW thank you to whoever made this rom, other than the 2 probs, i like everything else about it. I was on the edge of my seat when i started the process ( never changed the os on my phone before and didnt want to mess it all up!)
btw, other issue is the home screen, still cant get the menus back. any suggestions or will that update be a fix for this also?

What do you mean by the "Menus"???
You mean Manilla 2D, the side-scrolling, finger friendly interface? You must have unchecked Manilla from your Today screen...
Go to Start -> Settings -> Today, and go to the Items tab. Then check the TouchFLO item in that list.
I doubt there will be more updates, since the chef is busy with his life. Right now, each chef for the Wing is busy doing other things, which means no updates or new ROM's for us :(

I wouldn't think overclocking would affect it. Idk. This is weird that it's not working for you. I guess try normal-clocking it, maybe.

Also, I wanna make it clear that I haven't used your ROM. I was just responding to a guy that was talking about there being white in his Start Menu. I remembered having that same symptom from someone else's ROM and the above CAB fixed my problem. For all I know, his problem could be completely different from mine.

So says the guy that suggested that XDA-Developers staff members enforce a site-wide ban of all development, pending the completion of a program he wanted.
And my post wasn't intended to be mean. He said he was going to look into a solution I had posted, but I wanted to make it clear that my solution may not solve anything with regards to his ROM, since, after all, I had never used his ROM.
I'm using it now, however. I like the homage that's paid to T-Mobile. Everything seems to run quite speedy. No complaints so far. First thing I did was tested MMS and it worked like a charm.

anyone having wifi problems ?
i have 802.11g with WPA-PSK/TKIP secured network. For some reason when setting up the wifi network it doesn't allow me to uncheck the 'smart card' authentication. Also it is not able to connect to network for some reason. Though it shows other neighbourhood networks fine (they are secured so i could not connect to test).
nevermind : i deleted the setting and reentered and it worked fine after that.

Good job on this ROM! You definitely have a good one. Keep up the development and don't give up! Maybe experiment with 6.5 and Manilla2D? I know 6.5 already consumes a bunch of RAM, but it might be better after disabling Titanium and replacing it with Manilla.

I am thinking about getting a used HTC Fuze and either unlocking it and staying with T-Mo or switching to At&T. I might also go with the new winMo phone from T-Mobile -- if they ever get around to releasing it. Lately we've been struggling with finances, so I might not get a new smartphone for awhile anyway.

August 12th for the Touch Pro 2 (Wing II) from T-Mobile. Confirmed release date. Gonna cost a lot though, I bet :(
Fuze sounds like a decent phone for you. And btw, I've been trying to cook Windows Mobile 6.5 with your kitchen for ages. Do you know the most probable reasons why the phone won't boot the cooked ROM?? I know, wrong thread, but anyways....do you know why? (Don't kill yourself answering me!)

I tried briefly to cook a WM65 ROM and it wouldn't boot for me either. I have no idea if I wasn't porting it correctly, or one of the tools in my kitchen is the problem. Ivan might have some insight on this. I did replace Greloc in the kitchen with an updated version (Greloc + wmreloc) as it had problems with Winmo65 files.

Hmm okay. Yea, maybe I should try porting another WM6.1 ROM first, just to make sure I'm doing it right, lol. And I could ask Ivan, I just don't want to disturb him in his canadian vacation.

Hello, I liked the choice of tools/programs this Rom has. But sadly Manila2D doesn't load in my wing :( It says Launching Touchflo and then it goes and shows black desktop.
I flashed it twice , tried Clear Stoage, restarted, soft reset but still I didnt get to see even once the Manila2D interface as the 1st screenshot shows. I tried to apply other Manila2D theme but it didnt load.
Before this I used TouchIt,OTP3.0, OTP 7.6,7.7(Manila2D), JustStable B6, JustHomeB19. and didn't ran to this kind of problem.
I used Flashcenter, unzipped th LZX version there and ran the ruu.bat
Can anyone hint me what I need to do/what I m missing?

My only guess is that the cabs from the extrom are not installing during the customization for some reason. One of the cabs in the extrom is the manila2D theme. If that's not installed, the behavior that you are descriving will happen. Perhaps the version of flash center you are using is not flashing the extrom to your wing for some reason??
Can you go to "remove programs" in the settings section and see if the default manila 2d theme is listed?

If it's the Flash Center causing problems, then did you use the flash center that I hosted on The Wingster??

In "Remove programs" I see 10 things listed. The last 2 items r :
HTC Manila2D Default WeatherCities & HTC Manila2D Default Black Theme.
So, I don't think flash center have anything to do.
Edit: Yes, I used flashcenter from wingster.
Latest: I removed the SIM card (I live in Asia, using local mobile operator), and flashed for 3rd time exactly same way. This time it said cant find simm card(as expected) then after it installed extrom+settings+restart, then Manila2D showed up for 1st time!.
Then I turned it off, put the Sim card on and turned on wing, Manila2D showed up normally.
Then to be sure that it really works, I did soft reset and Manila did NOT show up.
So, I think the rom doesnt like Sim's which r not used in USA and maybe some other countries? I think the MMS settings have somethign to do!
Because Manila started working again when I disabled Messaging! Then I turned messaging back on, and Manila gone!
I see people r happy becasue MMS working out of the box for them, but it seems comes at a price :(

I could ask him for his kitchen files, and then try to fix it up.
I have no clue about Manilla 2D and messaging, that's really weird. No one else has had that, from what I know.

Hi Toadlife. I need some advice. I tried to flash you Ava Rom but the file I downloaded was corrupt. I did not notice until i was in the middle of flashing and now my wing is stuck on the bootloader screen(red/green/blue/white).

It will say looking for sd card and I have tried reformatting sd card and putting .nbh file on there but still nothing. Any Ideas? I have searched all through this and other forums but nothing works. Thanks if you can help. Scott

I think he went to the grave with his phone...no response yet...
Did you even try re-downloading the .NBH?? If you're trying to flash the same corrupted file, then it's not gonna work. Either re-download it or flash another ROM.
And the fact that you're stuck on the bootloader screen (color screen) is fantastic! That's some of the best news you can get. Seriously. You can even connect the phone to your computer and flash through there. Just flash a working (non-corrupted) NBH file and your phone will work.
And I'll read what you just wrote.

The download from The Wingster is the same link that ToadLife has here, so there's nothing wrong with that. Did you even try re-downloading???

August 12th for the Touch Pro 2 (Wing II) from T-Mobile. Confirmed release date. Gonna cost a lot though, I bet :(
Fuze sounds like a decent phone for you. And btw, I've been trying to cook Windows Mobile 6.5 with your kitchen for ages. Do you know the most probable reasons why the phone won't boot the cooked ROM?? I know, wrong thread, but anyways....do you know why? (Don't kill yourself answering me!)
Check the adobeflash and browseringie folders. Some of those modules require a native 6.5 nk.exe with the two memory slots. You'll have to convert those modules to files.

You don't have to flash with the SD card. Just boot your phone up to the bootloader connect your phone to your computer via the USB cable, and flash using flashcenter.

Two questions:
1) Are you using a T-Mobile wing, or another model like the Herald?
2) Is your carrier T-Mobile?

I did try that earlier this morning but says it needs to connect through activesync, but active sync does not recognize my phone. Forgot to also mention that i did flash to Ivan's 6.5 Rom but wanted to try the Ava Rom that is when issue started. I will try again. Thank you all for your help. Scott

This is what Flash Center says" Please make sure Activesync is enabled(green icon in system tray) and hit enter to start...." Phone is connected to computer but activesync icon is grey. I hit enter anyway and it just says "Step 1/3....". There is no next button

Why did you put the stock ROM on there? That makes no sense. Especially since you're gonna be flashing another ROM already.
You just had to flash a new custom ROM, no need to revert to T-Mobile. And you must have been doing something wrong if you couldn't flash the ROM's.

That's probably Manilla2D draining your battery. It's pretty CPU and screen intensive.
With a non-mailla ROM, my phone would have about 75%-80% battery left after the day was over. With this ROM my phone would have about 60% left after the day.
Are fiddling around with it a lot? Operating the touch-flo interface is very draining to the battery, and I remember my battery running out VERY quickly when I first started using it because I would fiddle around with it constantly. Once the novelty of having touch-flo wore off and I stopped fiddling with it, my battery lasted much longer.

The notification LED is not working anymore. In the stock rom, the orange LED would flash if there was a missed call/voice mail/new text/email. If there a way to get that back? That was a very convenient visual notification. Thanks.

This is TouchFlo2D not 3D. For the other clock just use a different skin.

First of all, I just want to say I love this ROM. I think it's very clean and works fairly well. However, I am having a few problems with the text messaging interface.
One, if I have the phone flipped and go to look at my messages through the "all messages" tab, and then revert back to the main screen, the phone's screen will display as if the screen is not flipped 90 degrees, when it should be.
Two, I have troubles with the phone in making the new messages notifications go away. Sometimes, I will check a message, look at it in the "all messages" tab, close out of it, and the phone will tell me on the screen that I still have a new message. It can also do this even when I send a text message out.
I'm sure I'm being nit picky, but I'd like to see if I could get these fixed on my end if possible. Thanks for any help you can give!

That's Manila 2D for you. Doesn't work in landscape.

If you view your TXT messages from the Manila (homescreen) interface, that won't mark them as read. Blame HTC for that. Just read the notifications with the old pop-up bubble, and then click Save as Read. That's the best solution.
And the issue when replying to a TXT message, and it's not marked as read, well, that's Windows Mobile 6.1 to blame. Best solution is to use your D-Pad, scroll up through your unread messsages within the thread, which marks them as read.
None of those can be fixed, sorry. And, this ROM's development has been stopped. The creator's phone died. But, you'll find lots of the same errors on any other ROM.

Use the How To Guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581996) for flashing instructions. For flashing LZX you need to use the HardSPL method.
