Protected apps

I've been looking at different android builds to try to find out why they have protected apps when the default build does not, but I've been unsuccessful. I've been led to believe (from different changelogs) that the build.prop has a key role in this, but even with an exact copy of thedudes build.prop I haven't been able to see protected apps. I'm stuck and some help would be appreciated.

I also believe that the build.prop is responsible for this behaviour and maybe also the Vending.apk. I tried to copy the Vending.apk from an offical build over to the ADP Version, but it didn't installed the market. There have to be something that blocks it.
