I am having problems trying to get Microsoft Money for PocketPC 06 to install. By problems i mean, i click the exe to run it, and it just sits their in memory doing nothing. (this is on my pc). At first, i tried copying it over to the device itself and installing it, and it said it "wasnt a valid windows mobile program" or some such crap.
Anyone else ever have any problem with this? how do i get this installed?

Have you tried connecting with ActiveSync (Device Center on Vista)?
There are installers which you run on the pc and start installing when the device is connected with ActiveSync.

I have. The Add/Remove programs area only shows programs which are currently installed on my device. Doesn't show any way for me to add new ones in.
Heres what i have
Mobile Device : HTC Touch Pro 2
Desktop: Win XP pro /Sp3
- ActiveSync 4.5.0
- Microsoft Money 2006

Hmm, just checked this PocketPC software for MS Money (http://money.mvps.org/downloads/pocketpc/default.aspx) and the system requirements (http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/271.aspx). Have a look there maybe you'll find something helpful? (I didn't)

ok i figured out that my computer just needed a reboot. Got it installed. Now their is another issue..
I goes to sync, syncs all my data, but then when it goes to the Money data, it brings up a Progress window and says "reading Device databases" and just sits their on that screen for ever. The Active Syinc sits with its sync Bar as 1/2 way. Ive let it run like this for a good 45 minuets before finally giving up on it. I'm going to let it run all night, see if that does anything.. But i dont think this is normal.
btw, i checked, my money database file is only 3.0 MB in size, so it really shouldn't take that long to transfer.
Any suggestions?

When i first synced money2005 (my file was 12mb, too much info on money lol) it took FOREVER to sync.......
I disconnected it, resynced and left it, it did eventually sync although i have no idea how long it took. I eventually removed money from my Polaris as internet banking is much better.
Good luck and let me know if it did sync.

you saying i just have to sit their and just let it sync for hours? Does it take that long every sync? or just the initial one?

yes it did take hours, but only for the initial sync. THe other syncs were obviosuly just updating the file. After it synced, money worked fine but obviously in a very basic way.

i just need it to allow me to enter in new transactions and keep a current balance. (pretty much act like my Transaction Register)

btw, exactly how long did it take? Mine ran all night and doesn't look like its moved at all. (does it matter if the device is asleep?)

I wish i could remember, it was about 2 years ago when i first got my Polaris, unfortunately i have had many glasses of wine since and is foggy:D
It shouldnt matter as long as active sync is still active, but all night is not right, esp for a 3mb file. Have you tried resyncing since?

5 or 6 times. It always goes back to trying again and just sitting their.
Heres a screen shot of the screen that it just sits at.... and sits at...... and sits at....
And no, the progress bar doesn't move.

Well,
Installed money2005, tried to sync one account, 2 weeks info (not much), left it for 3 hours, sync did not complete so unplugged.
Going to investigate more as it appears active sync on pc becomes unresponsive after half hour or so... this isnt going to be a quick fix im afraid.:(

lol i know, i have had it working in the past, so in between doing other things, im going to re-install money and only sync 1 account for 2 days worth of data, just to get it synced... then increase the file size to see what happens.... have a go with that first.

doesnt look good for me does it :| Getting money to sync with my Tp2 is like 60% of the reason i wanted the device in the first place :( Would really suck if it just didnt work, even more so if i couldnt find a program that would do the same job.
Also, ive been looking again at Ultrasoft Money, is it pretty much the same program? will it work on 6.1, or is it a worse off program?

Ugh.. Only thing i hate about using it is Paying for it after i paied for the Desktop version. Im a firm believer that if you buy a piece of software, it shouldn't matter what Platform you use it on. But im more and more in need of this on my phone and able to talk to my desktop version. Wish the free (Actually) Pocket Money worked.

Typical M$. I agree that you shouldn't have to pay for software to make this work particularly as M$ provided an earlier solution for free.

Ok read it and weep :

Basically forget about money for PPC, microsoft recomend ultrasoft money. THe main money programme is now no longer sold and will be phased out due to internet bacnking/website development etc.
Might give the ultrasoft trial a go to see what its like.

yea, i knew about that already. But i didnt want to BUY the program when they previously offered up their own version for Free, i think thats a rip off, especially at 30 flippen bucks! when i only paid TEN for my pc version. But thats not the main reason i shund it....
Money 2006 will ONLY synchronize with Microsoft Money for the Pocket PC 2006.
Money 06 is what im currently running. This imply's that Money 06 will NOT sync with Ultrasoft money.

Is their anything competing with this? Is their like a quicken or whatever it was? Im not paying 30 bucks for a WinMo cabfile that connects to my 10 dollar desktop software.

Not just with money, i know like Quickbooks or Quicken or whoever was competing with MS Money, just wondered if they had a WM version to connect to their software.
