I placed a contact on the main screen, when I tap on it a box appears on the screen asking if I want to call, send SMS, or MMS, when I tap on call nothing else happens and the dialog box disappears. I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2, any ideas?

I finally got the transparency working. At first, it would crash Androkkid, and I finally realized that it was out of memory, because it wouldn't even load the page with all the widgets that comes up when you click add widget.
I've also noticed before that the widget dll's seem to be loaded into memory when Androkkid is started (meaning if I want to install a newer version of a widget, I have to go out of Androkkid first).
As you probably have realized, I don't know much about memory usage, but it seems to me, that it would be better to only load the widget dll's when you actually use them?

Remind to dispose bitmap first of create a new bitmap or there is a memory leak.

Great app, first off!!! I have created contact icons that are wide and short, easy to push. I have then dedicated a page to contacts. Because of the size of the icons I can't fit to many on that page.

My idea is this, could you make it so that each page can also be scrolled down and then back up. As smooth as the page currently scroll from left to right, only not an entire vertical pages worth. Only have the page move vertically as much as the thumb movment dictates. Then scanning to another page left to right would then cause the previously viewed page back to its "home locataction" (back to the top) Please find the attached photos as a mapping for this idea

I think this idea would be verry usful to many users in different sinarios.Thankyou verry much for taking the time to review my idea. I do hope you like it, please let me know what you think. for my wifi widget I use some external dll's. When now open the Add Widget dialog, all dll's will be listed as widgets.
I tried to merge my widget dll with those external ones using ILMerge - but seems not to work.

For upcoming releases: can you add a hint to let you determine, a dll contains a widget or not. (like deriving custom widget from a base class/interface - or a attribute to our widget class?)

Lounge, i know you have your own idea in mind. I just suggest you check out the very lean, clean & fast app called AVATAR , written by supbro, who's done great things with iCOntact and iDialer.

Thanks quicksite, but my idea for Simo is not just as related to my contacts situation... I just think it is a pretty trick idea. I would use this vertical scroll feature on just about every one of my androkkid pages. Also all I need is androkkid, this app is it, top 'o the heap!

It seems to me a great very promising application and. Easy to use and thought very well.
There am it been trying with my Samsung Omnia and I have not obtained that it worked to me correctly: I never install if it in the memory card it works, and I install if it in the memory of the device sometimes works but usually it fails in some process, without being able to use it with normality.
I do not know if it is predicted that it only works for devices HTC, but on the contrary I offer myself to realise tests and to specify the failures more in detail.

Hi ssj5trunks how is the development of folders going please?

I'm hoping my interpretation of this would be that you can add a folder to a page which in turn will contain a number of shortcuts.

It would be nice to be able to group together all setings shortcuts similar to the standard interface by sub catagories.

what would be even better is when you slide up the page if the buttons either side could be used to bring up either customisable link pages or the phone settings themselves

Hi Simo,

I've noticed the Battery Widget, when connected to a charging source, takes over 1 minute for the green 'fill' to to complete its cycle, so an instant glance gives the impression that the green 'fill' represents the actual charge capacity. Is it possible to speed that up to say 15 seconds in the next release, so that it is clear that it represents only the fact that the battery is being charged? Also as mentioned in a previous post, could the legend be changed from 'In charging' to just 'Charging'.

Sorry if this had been covered before. I did dearch and didn't see this addressed. I have a Sprint Touch Pro and when I have this running without minimizing the battery drains very fast. I was looking to use this as an alternative to Touchflo3d but not if the battery life is going to be so bad. I did notoce that the battery lasted longer if Androikkid is minimized and not "active" all the time. Is there any way to work on battery consumption?

I'm almost done with my WiFi widget.
since I use several external dll's and those are getting displayed in the select widget dialog, i wanted to incorporate/merge all necessary dependencies using ILMerge. when you now add it via the dialog, it fails with an exection. if you add it manually, it is working fine.

If I make a .lnk shortcut containing both arguments, it forwards both.

i think this is what your asking for .....

what you need to do is paste the following into a notepad

save it as sms.lnk or whatever you want and then drop onto your phone,

use the right hand button to add a new shortcut and browse for you link

once this is on the desktop drag it to the bottom bar and edit it to read

name : sms
type : sms
image : use existing or browse for another

then ok

Just starting with Androkkid and it looks great. Long time rlToday user with an ancient Wizard/8125. Performance is pretty good (first out of all the other animated GUI tools I've tried). Some ideas/questions...

-can I hide the bottom "buttons" I'd rather just long press the background to get the menu which also has "add..." sub-menu
-can I change the directory that the slide up launcher uses? I have tons of stuff in my start menu, prefer just a smaller list of programs/icons rather than pages of games
-are widgets configurable? I'd like to change a font size on some (clock). I'd like to turn the text off on others (signal strength, battery)
-is there an option to make a widget show on all pages? I'd like the clock or a "topbar" widget to always show
-can androkkid be made to show as the "desktop". so when i bring another app like messaging up, the androkkid still shows in the "top bar" area. I have done this on rltoday to tweak how my "top bar" looks when using other apps.
-anyone have a nice set of matching icons? most of the default wm5 icons are very Windows3-ish
-widget idea: registry text box widget - bring in text from a registry entry. Would be nice to support line wrap, line feeds, maybe even bold characters, background image/frame

I'm not sure whether this is a 'bug' in Androkkid or a 'feature' of Windows Mobile 6.1, but if I make a shortcut to a secure website (https), such as is needed for gmail (Google mail) using a 'Link to webpage' shortcut, when I switch Androkkid off and then back on again, the shortcut has disappeared. A workaround I have found is to save the secure website address as a 'favorite', and then use a standard shortcut to that favorite.

First off, Simo, this is a fantastic UI. I've decided to use this as my main launcher over Titanium or Manila.

Second, for all the folks having trouble with voicemail, the way I got it working was to use the command line dial feature of iDialer, my dialer of choice. (FYI - iDialer is awesome; I use it because of its Google Voice integration). I made the following shortcut, where xxxyyyzzzz is my 10 digit cell number.



And of course, I set the Type of the shortcut to be Voicemail. It shows up my voicemail count correctly, and it dials my voicemail number correctly on pressing.

Is it possible with the standard 6.1 dialer?

It's likely that you have an = sign somewhere in the link.

This has been fixed for the next version.

Firstly fantastic, well done. Suit's me way better than TF3D and/or win 6.1. Can navigate my device, contacts, calender apps everything much faster. One major showstopper for me though is the power drain. I can't understand why but even with nothing running (well no apps anyway) the battery is dying twice as fast as it use to without Androkkid. My better half has the same phone and at moment it's still running TF3D. With both phones on but in standby (blank screen) after 3hrs her phone has lost 1 bar in the settings power page whereas mine is down to 50%! Any ideas? Oh and when is the next version so that I can use the calendar widget without the overlapping text and the first of the recurrent appointments always showing?

I just like to have the programs I actually USE there and it looks a lot nicer. there are things in my start menu that I don't really need listed in my All Programs (like diamondconfig, activesync, CHome editor, etc...) and if I let my girlfriend use my phone she gets all confused as to what program does what and where things are, it looks cluttered. This way I wouldn't have to have 2 pages of my own programs, I could use the pages for widgets and just pull up the Programs tab to get to the programs I actually want listed like my apps and games only. I think it would make it really awesome.

I originally started using Androkkid .060 & .080 on my Treo Pro, SQVGA, 320x320, using RealVGA to set the screen at 96dpi instead of 128dpi. I just switched to a Tilt2 (AT&T's GSM version of the Touch Pro 2), which is 480x800, WVGA. Androkkid now crashes at the first shortcut tap or attempt to switch pages. I had moved my storage card from one phone to the other, so I reinstalled in the same folder, figuring Androkkid would retain my settings, etc. It crashed as described above. I then uninstalled Androkkid, manually deleted the folder, then reinstalled. No change -- still crashing. I'd really like to continue using it on my new phone. Any ideas?

When Androkkid came back up, I installed the Hero Clock widget, then I started to install Goraps weather widget, at which point I got a fatal error message & quit Androkkid. I tried restarting it, but got the same fatal error message. I then did a soft reset, started Androkkid, I at least got the animated splash screen, but before anything else happened, I got the same fatal error message.

On the Tilt2, it crashes whether it's on the phone or the storage card & the Tilt2 rins WM 6.5. So, is there maybe some difference in WM 6.5 that needs to be adjusted for in Androkkid or the widgets?

I think there is a problem with Goraps widget.
The ways are 2:
1) remove Settings.ini in Androkkid folder
2) edit Settings.ini and remove the row of Icons where is Goraps Wheather widget.

Installation and Setup Instructions
1) Downlad and unpack GORAPSWeather.zip
2) Open GorapsWeather.mscr with a text editor and make the appropriate changes to the two variables: location and units.
- Change location to the accuweather.com location code for your location.
If you need to find your code go to www.accuweather.com/m and search for your city. Then you will see the location code in the URL. It will look something like NAM|CA|ON|MARKHAM.
- Change units to C or F.
3) Save your edited script.
4) Copy the GORAPSWeather folder to the Androkkid widgets folder on your phone.
5) Execute the click on the GorapsWeather.mscr in a file explorer to initialize the values. If you don't do this and add the widget it will crash Androkkid.
6) Add the widget to your Androkkid desktop. Clicking on the widget will update the weather data.

Yes, now that you have abandoned Real VGA I will work on fixing it for WVGA and QVGA. I have a VGA device (diamond) so I am developing using an emulator and Real VGA was giving me one heck of a time.

I have been using Androkkid for a day, so I'm a fresh user

ss5jtrunks already helped me with call menu (disabled now),but by using it over the day I have seen it crashing many times.

I've looked at the thread, and I've seen it reported already, but here is what I've seen anyway :

- as long as I use Androkkid without stopping, there is no problem
- when I leave my phone long enough to go to eco mode (screen switches off), when I go back, at the moment I touch the screen, Androkkid crashes
- when this happens with Androkkid in full screen, nothing happens anymore, touching screen just creates "bips", but no actions
- when this happens when task bar is shown, then at least phone stays usable and I even can restart Androkkid

I'm using a Glofiish x610, my phone locks itself automatically after some time, switching screen off, and I have to press a hard key to get screen back on, after I do that, next time I touches screen with Androkkid on it crashes

And I've tried this by installing Androkkid on SD or on internal memory, same results

Too bad a bug, if it was stable then I would have elected Androkkid best WinMo software ever

I'm developing a series of icons meant to cover a lot of areas and apps. They should not have any issues with transparancy. In fact the whole idea is that you should be able to see the nice Androkkid wallpaper through the icons. I've used the app Capsure to make screenshots. Unfortunately the screenshots appear more pixelated than they are on my phone. I do not use the "magic pink" to make them transparent.
I have to use layers and a method I think of as scrubbing to make them completely transparent and it takes a long time. But I'm sending some screenshots to see if I can get response.
I plan to publish them in 128x128, 96x96, 64x64 and 48x48 (free ofcourse)

Yes, now that you have abandoned Real VGA I will work on fixing it for WVGA and QVGA. I have a VGA device (diamond) so I am developing using an emulator and Real VGA was giving me one heck of a time.

I wouldn't get away from RealVGA, yet. ;) I'm still a poster on several of the WM & Treo sites. Thanks to me, there's now an Androkkid thread on Treonauts. And a lot of the Treo Pro folks who are forum users go to RealVGA to gain screen real estate. If I thought it might work on the Tilt 2, I'd be tempted to try the results. :D

Any ideas as to how I can be aware of missed reminders? If I'm not about and a reminder occurs then the little alrm icon is in the task line of the today screen but as I have turned of the task line I can't see it after Androkkid regains control. Is there a counter similar to the ones for missed call's etc that I could attach to a shortcut/icon to show how many reminders are unacknowleged (ie not clicked dismiss yet). I know the led flashes but it could be charging.

Found a couple of interesting bugs (or at least changes in behavior) moving from The Treo Pro & WM 6.1 to the Tilt 2 & WM 6.5.

Androkkid seems to be more possessive on my new phone. On the Treo Pro with WM 6.1 clicking the "X" on the taskbar would close Androkkid. On the Tilt 2 with WM 6.5, that gets Androkkid to start closing, then pop back up again (no restart or splash screen). No matter how many times I click the "X", that continues to happen, Using "Exit" on the Androkkid menu is the only way to fully shut it down.

With the taskbar showing, WM 6.1 would allow me to access the start menu by tapping the "Start" on the taskbar. On the Tilt 2, the start menu begins to open, then Androkkid takes over the screen again. I'm suspecting that the start menu is really open, but hidden by Androkkid. I get the same behavior using the "windows" hardware button. It almost seems like it's the same issue as above.

One bug that hasn't changed with phones & WM versions is the one that kills the "windows" hardware button when Androkkid is fullscreen.

I would not consider this a bug, there is an option to exit androkkid when required which i think is sufficient and the behaviour you claim is a bug to me is the program regaining control as it should until exited

Just to clarify something, I love Androkkid, I've donated toward it & I've talked about it in other forums.. WM is not as good as it ought to be & it's tough for a programmer to keep up with a changing OS. Particularly if you don't know all the changes before it comes out. But a behavior change with a new version of the OS is still a bug, even if it's not Simo's fault. Fortunately, knowing Simo's responsiveness, whatever's incorrect will be fixed. Thanks, Simo, for a great app.

I've reported the same issue with the minimize.exe app. The minimize via the Androkkid menu functions as it should: the Today screen is displayed. If the minimize.exe could function the same way, it would be possible to add a button to goto the Today screen, which I'm missing right now.

But if you are looking for a freeware solution you can use SharpDevelop http://www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/Download/
That's what I've used to develop all my widgets, and despite it's name, you can program in basic.

I love this app as a UI, here are the points I would like to see improved/added (in order of importance)

1- not use it as an "app" and able to select as today item instead, this will not only increase speed and rid lag, but you can then use HTC task manager to switch tasks instead of having that X on top right to close, or you have to minimize the whole program, then switch task then re maximize it.


2 - change location of "all programs" tab I mentioned this before, if I can select a specific folder with only the shortcuts I want in the "All programs" tab then it cleans it all up and I don't have a bunch of stuff I don't use in there, looks a lot better and more preferable.

3 - fix the contact shortcuts when I add a contact shortcut it adds fine, but when I click on it to call or send sms nothing happens.

4 - add a folder shortcut I know this is "in development" so it will eventually come, the sooner the better :)

5 - more/better widgets! This will just come along with development. The weather widget is ok and will work for now, but I think we all want more of a tf3d or a Hero type of weather widget, or even a hero clock with weather integrated into it. The more widgets added the better!

I had a similar problem with a webpage link to a secure website (https), apparently due to having an '=' in the address. I believe this is going to be fixed in the next release

I am not sure what you mean, but here is what I have done:
Install sharpdevelop.
Start new project: there will be options as to what kind of application and programming language you want to use. Make sure you start a project that compiles into a dll, and that you use the required functions (see ssj5trunks's widgets web page in the first post - there is source code for the included widgets there)
Or unzip the source file for the widgets that come with source, and load the solution file into Sharpdevelop. Then you will see how to develop a widget.
As for tutorials, developing a widget is like programming. You can program in Basic so if you want a tutorial for Basic do a google search for embedded visual basic, and there should be lots of links.

Simo has acknowledged that there is an issue with the contact menu, at least for some. If you go into settings & shut off contact menus, your contact shortcuts should work fine for calling. But be sure that the phone numbers have only numbers. No separators of any kind, including spaces.

1.0.0 is out :) For install, I renamed my old androkkid folder to androkkid080, then copied the new androkkid folder (from the zip download) into programfiles and started the androkkid.exe. I didn't try to re-use the setup.ini yet.

Couple questions already...
-can we copy our setup file from 0.8 into the new directory safely?
-how is new icon different than a shortcut?

I'm still getting frequent crashes when I add/edit new objects (I have old Wizard with limited memory).

The above referred to installing from the CAB file. I have now followed itesla's lead and renamed the folder for version 0.8.0.0 and copied the contents of the ZIP file across for version 1.0.0.0. Also copied my settings.ini file across from V0.8.0.0 and all seems to be working so far. Good work Simo!

i had the same problem with the cab download link from simosoftprojects.com. use the zip download link.

the problem is that in the cab file the file folder.png in both themes doesn't exist, but you can only read the error if you have a a message cab for framework 3.5 installed.

I can see the sparkeling Logo "androkkoid" .... but this is all... It does not work on my Xanny ROM HD ....

Any reason to this ? (netframework 3.* seems to be on board (cooked in the ROM) but not 3.5 ....)

HTC's Hero theme transformed people's view of the possibilities for Android OS ...

I just find it interesting to see different touchscreen interface schemes. And the above XP phone interface is not for Windows Mobile, but for fully functional Windows XP OS. So we see more convergence of platforms and devices.

ANDROKKID's FLEXIBILITY:

This is the way I see it: Once simo moved away from ifonz and towards androkkid, the "radical change" was making the whole screen addressable in terms of navigation and display elements. Version 1 of androkkid featured the "look" of android's wallpaper scheme -- which to me was always lifeless and ugly. But HTC's Hero showed how some simple graphical elements could transform the overall view of Android -- which I am sure made Android's makers very happy, since they built something with an open architecture.

Now that we see the Hero Theme for Androkkid, to me this look also demonstrates the greater power available to revamp the entire look of Androkkid... more than just dragging around some widgets on a phone desktop. (Below is my own screenshot of how I've configured Androkkid, with what really boil down to very minor graphical element changes for the bottom 3 tabs.)

Me? I really focus on USING my phone, vs a lot of XDA folks who like trying on all the latest new styles, new touchflo this, or the WindowsMobile 6.5 look. ( My own opinion is that 6.5 is such a wasted use of everyone's time, since MS's Ballmer himself acknowleges WindowsMobile 7.0 should be out -- and THAT could be a game changer. It will for sure have elements of the Zune HD interface, which is following the interface "family" of Windows 7.0 desktop )

My point is: I am looking for "the keeper" interface for WM phones-- because I can't stand the time it takes to convert and reinstall stuff. This is why I am betting on simo and androkkid. And this post is meant to drive more themed executions of Androkkid. (I will post this on the widget thread too, since not everyone sees this thread).

Nope can only get it to work by installing 0.8 then overwriting with 1.0 files.

How do you change the analog clock faces? You have several but I can't see how to change them.

Also any chance you can use apptodate?

Simo, great job! Androkkid just keeps getting better & better.

The WM 6.5 start menu still disappears too quickly, but as I look further at the pull-up menu & the settings options in shortcuts.txt, that's becoming more of a nonissue -- you've already supplied alternatives for most or all of what I use regularly.

I do have a couple of questions, though.

First, WM seems to be very good at leaving open as many apps as the OS & hardware will allow. I found the taskmanager link that seems to be the generic "running tasks" window. But I really prefer the graphic HTC version, accessible from the upper right corner when Androkkid is not running. Do you (or does anyone) know how to access it from within Androkkid? And will it stay visible if we can access it?

Second, is there a way to move the entire contents of a page? I set the start page as 1. And I set the number of pages to 7. Somehow, that changed to 8. And, without realizing that had happened, I did a whole contacts page on the last page, so they would be quickly accessible by moving one page away from my start page. If I remove a page, it's the last one, deleting my contacts shortcuts. Interestingly, if I later add a page it brings back that page, restoring my shortcuts. But I don't need 8 pages, maybe not even 7. Or, if adding another page to add content, you might not necessarily want to place it on the last page. So, it would be great if there was a way to move an entire page's contents to another page.

So Androkkid froze on me too. It got stuck on splash screen, though there is an error message under it, that says something of sorts: "To see the actual error message get .NET 3.5 Framework Messages".

You can recover your androkkid by deleting "settings.ini" and "settings.ini.bak" files from androkkid dir. That would revert settings to their defaults obviously.

It would seam that the error occurs when i use my own modified theme. Changing no other setting resulted in a n error.

Edit: I figured it out. The reason for he error was that my custom theme was modified from a previous release of androkkid. There were 2 files missing from my theme - "TitleFolder.png" and "Folder.png". Once I did add them the error is gone.

- uninstall Androkkid
- install 1.0.0 cab
- start (fails)

- reset phone

- start 0.8.0 OK
- reset phone (maybe useless, just to be safe)
- overwrite 0.8.0 by 1.0.0
- start 1.0.0 OK

I don't have that problem on my o2 XDA Stellar (HTC TYTN II clone) running WM6.1. Make sure the Contact No. field only has numbers in it. i.e no spaces, punctuation etc.

Had a pretty catastr0phic fail last night 1ith 1.0

i was trying to add an icon and change it to be a folder so I could have a different icon on the desktop.

If you make a theme you can change the folder image, but all folders have the same image, like Android, you cant change it.

I think you mean "froze" the phone. This can happen with other programs as well. If it locked up your phone, then your in big trouble and a reset will not help.

Try to differentiate so as not to alarm other users who might wish to try the program. I don't mind a program that may freeze the device, but fear one that would lock it up! :p

Install androkkid in internal phone memory and not in storage card and retest it.

This normally means that the icon does not point to the .exe file.
Hold on the icon until you see the Edit or soft key lower left and drag the icon onto it.

Look at FILE to see where the "File" is pointing. If it is not showing the .exe file, you will need to browse for the file cprog.exe in Windows directory. Then make sure that the Type is set to PHONE.

Had similar problem with IFONZ and this fixed it.

It can be difficult to get the timezones right, throw in daylight savings, and it can be a nightmare. We had some serious problems when developing the iAgenda program, but were finally able to resolve it. It was really helpful that the two main developers where in different timezones.
I'll try and look at it, or we could wait for the new agenda widget to be finished?

Never mind about this issue. I fixed it by totally exiting Androkkid and restarting it. Soft start did not work (probably because Androkkid executes on startup). But exiting and restarting did the trick.

As for an agenda widget, I am really looking forward to that. I am using an old app called TodayAgenda that sit on top of the default Windows Today screen and it is the most important app I use. The best thing about Androkkid is that I can minimize it and still have the window's today screen with the TodayAgenda running.

Touchflo wipes out the today screen and I lose my agenda; so I don't use it at all. Also to me, the Androkkid interface is way better.

If agenda widget works well, then I might not need the default today screen ever again.

May I recommend that if you fix the cab file, or modify the cab, you change the version number so users can see it is a new file.

Sorry to say, that after finally getting Androkkid to load, it is not as stable as IFONZ.
1. It takes to long to load initially, and takes just as long if you make changes then SAVE.
2. The icons are not as clear or sharp as in IFONZ, and I cannot fit as many on the screen in Hero mode as I do in IFONZ. Making the icons smaller makes the names almost unreadable.
3. Also, if I am creating a new shortcut and do a Windows directory search for the link I want, it takes so long that the device enters sleep mode. If I wake it up, Androkkid shuts down and freezes the phone.
4. Some shortcuts created off the Programs menu due not work, or do not transfer the icon image.
5. Another querk is if I am not careful with Add Programs icon, the Cube pops up. This has also happened when scrolling up in Programs.

Maybe Androkkidd has more bells and whistles than does IFONZ, and it is easier to manipulate icons around from page to page, but truthfully, I'm staying with IFONZ. Androkkidd doesn't seem to like the HTC Touch 6900 as much as other devices which may be the reason it is not working as well. :(

It is clear the developer put in a lot of time and effort, and tried to incorporate many innovative concepts, but Androkkid needs some more polish.

Which version did you install?? Both .080 & 1.0 work with WM 6.5. If you installed 1.0 from cab, your error may be missing files in the cab. If you grab the copy/folder version, just copy it over the previous installation. That should ensure you have all the files. The latest cab file at Simo's site is supposed to have all the files, too. So, you could just use that & "upgrade".

ssj5trunks i have a question... when I initially loaded this app the first time it had a screen lock that I had to drag down to the bottom to unlock the screen...

now that I have everything nicely customized I can't seem to figure out how to access and use the screen lock. Is there a shortcut to lock the screen? I attempted to use a shortcut to the windows screen lock, thinking that you may have modified it for androkkid, but that was unsuccessful.

Any help will be appreciated.. thanks for a great application!

Androkkid 1.0 installed and ran great until I rebooted the PDA. It is an iPAQ 211 with Win Mobile 6.1. The error varies each time you try and run it. The one I get the most is an out of memory error. I have 140 MB of free storage & 87 MB of free program memory. The program is running from an 8 Gig SD card.

The error is OutOfMemoryException at Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleAr(PAL_ERROR ar) at System.Drawing.Bitmap._InitFromMemoryStream(Memory Stream mstream) at System.Drawing.Bitmap..ctor(String filename) at Androkkid.Start.LoadVariables().

I have uninstalled Androkkid and reinstalled it and get the same error. I then uninstalled it and .NET 3.5 and reinstalled .NET then Androkkid and still get the same error.

This is a product that, if it worked, I would purchase.

See post #645 on this thread. Basically, if you use the pull up menu on the bottom left corner, there is an option to minimize. That bottom works. Minimize.exe or the 'x' on the top right corner does not work.

the contact number has to be ALL digits with no spaces to work

try to save your settings.ini and unistall version 0.8 then delete the folder it leaves behind before installing 1.0.

This is now working without any errors. I uninstalled Androkkid and then installed it again but on the device, not on the SD card. Then it ran just fine with no error.

If I try to type the folder location in manually I just get a "ding sound".

It's not possible to 'point' a folder icon at an existing folder, even though the edit facility appears to give that flexibility. You can only create new folders into which you can drag and drop shortcuts.

If you reinstall Androkkid and then transfers the old ini file you should be alright. Unless you have added extra icons or wallpapers into the main folder in which case you also have to transfer these. You should always take a copy of your install when it is working fine, like that you can be up and running again in a matter of seconds

And, according to the listing, won't do WVGA, yet. So, it won't look right on all the variations of the Touch Diamond 2 or Touch Pro 2. Androkkid is probably one of the most usable UIs I've tried.

Nice GUI, but it takes WAY too long time to boot. And a major issue; cannot change to my own wallpaper without the app crashing. And now I can't even start the app because my own wallpaper is selected! Haha... Walllpaper from Internal Storage, BTW.

if you know the exact location of the program it would probably be easier to create shortcuts on your computer desktop as they explained earlier (I'll edit this with a link as soon as I find it).. then after you create it connect your phone and put the .lnk file on your device and then create a shortcut pointing to the .lnk file

anyways... the post that I'm looking for will tell you in a lot more detail.

I'm working on my weather widget, and am having some problems.
It's configurable so that you can show various number of days or just an icon. When you click on it, it will show a panel with details. I also like to be able to show more than one city, but I have it so that you add 2 widgets then. And that's were the problem is.
Example: I add one widget (city) on the top of the screen, and the next further below. When I click on the upper widget, so I can see the detailed information, the bottom widget is drawn on top of the panel. Actually, any widget that has been added after the weather widget, will paint on top of the panel.
Anyone knows how I can get around that?

i'm working on a skin which relies a lot on transparent parts, and the program list is the only thing i'm not happy with yet.

But i get 2 or 3 little problems...
- after reading e-mails and returning to androkkid it freezes - the keyboardsymbol is at the bottom and on top the windows bar is visible (deaktivated in the androkkid-settings).
- Adding a folder like /windows/startmenu/settings is not possible (?)
- the start of androkkid takes such a looooong time - yes i know, that you know that, but is there no way to make this a little bit faster?

How is memory use for you all? With Androkkid (v 0.8.0) running I am at 5.25MB Free Program Memory. After killing Androkkid, jumps to to 14.18MB. That's about 9MB. I have about 130 program icons cached, does that matter?

Edit: Trying 1.0 again, I see similar memory usage... 8MB

Also, there are a bunch of control panel shortcuts referenced in the first post. Anyone know how to jump to the main control panel "Personal" tab (not one of the settings)?

for shortcuts to folders just grab a shortcut to the file explorer and add the location of the folder you want to link to in the parameters field(only works for actual folders, so linking to the settings folder in the start menu gives you an empty folder)

settings.exe has the layout completely hardcoded, so it doesn't fit with some themes and it ignores 4-icons-in-a-row tweaks
control panel.exe still ignores some stuff, but atleast it still follows main theme behaviour(so on 6.5.1 it has the new tab design) and only seeing the top-left ¼ of the icons also gives a nice effect

Thanks!!! I've been looking for something like this for a long time. I've used settings.exe, and you are absolutely right, it ignores the 4-icons-in-a-row tweak. It works, but it is just not aesthetically pleasing. Thank you so much for this.

By the way, I am using folderview.exe to display my program directory. It has the same problem with ignoring the 4-icons-in-a-row tweak. Do you have or know of a exe file that can display the program folder without the layout hardcoded?

Do you mean access to ANDROKKID Settings, or WindowsMobile Settings?

(1) ANDROKKID SETTINGS: Anywhere on the desktop, in between any icon, if you tap and hold, you get a whole menu of items, including direct access to SETTINGS.

(2) CREATING ICONS THAT LINK TO WINDOWS MOBILE SETTINGS:

These are all spelled out in the file attachment called "SHORTCUTS.txt" in Post #1 of this thread. Instead of just providing a link to a FOLDER of settings within WindowsMobile, Simo has given you individual access to many Personal Settings, System Settings, Communications Settings. That means 1-click access from an icon.

1. MINIMIZE as an icon link that appears as a desktop item. Many people have asked for this for many months. WHY? Here's why:

For ifonz as well as Androkkid, the same problem has existed: You have designed both apps to replace the TODAY screen, so that if you select in the settings to "STARTUP WITH WINDOWS", Androkkid loads... and while it is running, some people WANT to access the Windows Mobile "Today" screen, or HTC Home, or touchflo, whatever.

It would seem very easy, since you have a minimize function within the left hand bottom menu, to create an icon for that same function, so people can place it where they like if they want to minimize Androkkid, and get to the Today screen...

Similarly, when working with a file explorer or registry editor or other utility, often it is not desireable to have Androkkid return to view until I explicitly call it. There are many ways I could call it:

a. I use WKtask ... which places a tab in the task bar that works just like Windows XP. tap it and the app restores. ... or
b. I can use the Start menu and tap "Running Apps", and select Androkkid that way.
c. If I choose to use a Windows Mobile Today screen, I can have androkkid as an icon there, and tap it.

2. Selecting ICONS: Please add a user-defined default directory (in settings file), so that I can specify the path where I want Androkkid to look for icons. It gets very frustrating having to re-navigate from root, to storage folder, to next folder, etc, when instead, in the pulldown menu at top, if I could just select my default path... That way I could so easily select and replace icons.

3. Screen locking: I see one person here asking five times about this: he says he saw an initial lock/unlock sequence within the initial install and set-up stage of first running Androkkid.

But as a separate argument: 2 years ago, maybe 3 by now, the standard everyone was using here at XDA was A_C's S2U2 ... And this was included in every ROM, and this was the preferred way to do this. That has changed.

As A_C has worked to make S2U2 a more robust app, that also shows weather, Appointments, Alarms, SMS messages, Missed Calls, and full-screen photo callerID for incoming call, integration with S2P even while screen is locked, even displaying SMS Messages while keeping the screen locked, the application is no longer light... so it is taxing the performance.

At the same time, every new interface system has been including all of those notifications and displays -- and that's part of the widget philosophy of Androkkid as well.

Third, there are 2 great utilities at XDA that do the same thing, but slightly differently: (a) XDAshutdown ,and (b) Slide2Shutdown ... Both give one-button access to related functions: Screen off, Sleep, Restart, Shutdown, Cancel -- and both enable the mapping of the app to the Power button.

People have been asking those developers "Please add screen locking, so we don't have to use S2U2, since it is not as lean an app". No one is sure when or if they will do it.

Fourth: An amazing amount of development effort has gone into a variety of auto-sensing methods to lock the screen -- such as when the phone approaches the ear, using G sensor, using accelerometer sensing etc. I have found all of those to be interesting -- but too complicated. Those threads are FULL of error problems from people talking about all the situations where it isn;t working well.

Fifth: A lot has chnaged in the touchscreen industry since Apple introduced "Slide 2 unlock", which was a brilliant simple solution to an annoying problem. Android has a much simpler lock/unlock system, and now so does WindowsMobile 6.5 ...

But to me it just makes sense that if an application like Androkkid is a full user interface and app-launching system, then it would make a lot of sense to have a built in, very lean, lock/unlock function... And i could also activate the LOCK with an icon on-screen. I'm not sure what your method of unlock would be, but the person who's been commenting here said you already had a "pull down tab" from top task bar.

1 - I can only make a button of minimize and i can add it in next version selectable in Type icons combobox, this isnt a problem to do;

2 - Folder for icons is a simple settings and i can set it when you click on button to change an icon image, this isnt a problem to do;

3 - Screen lock is a problem, because i dont know the functions to block all hardware buttons of all devices, instead the S2U2 program or similar do this action very well and are developed for this. Use these programs and dont ask me to recreate it.
I use S2U2 and disable all notifications, weather or other options if you dont want it and it do what you want.
I can search how to block the hardware buttons but it is a very big problem for VB.NET.

(One really GREAT thing you do with Androkkid that Android does NOT allow: You let user drag a new icon or widget to the desktop and let it overlap on top of other icons -- until user can shuffle icons around and determine the placement for where he wants objects to go. With ANDROID, if the page is 80% filled with icons, and you try to drag a widget onto that page, and the widget is BIGGER than the free space available, it rejects the action, and you cannot drop the item to desktop, then shift other icons off to another page. So I am happy that you allow temporary overlapping of objects. It is MUCH more user friendly!)

2. Icon Rendering COMMENT: For people who were unhappy that some icons looked very pixellated and bad quality, one thing you should know is that if you try replacing any icons you don't like with different icons that are available (like the iReflect set), the graphics can look MUCH better -- and be very clean, even with a QVGA screen like mine.

3. WIDGET DEVELOPERS: (I know I should put this on the other thread, but for now I put it here) ... It would be nice if you could make 3 sizes of your widget, so that user has a choice to display BIG or small. For example, I like the HERO CLOCK, but for me it takes up way too much space on screen, and I would like a version that is 75% of the original size.

NOTE: I am aware that I can go adjust the icon size in the EDIT SETTINGS, but then the type rendering looks bad and pillexated, because the correct font size is being compressed.

Comparing to ANDROID OS, or to SenseUI or to HTC Widgets (I do not know which is responsible for this): They have this feature. Hi Simo, If there is to be another update, could you make the changes to the battery widget icon that I requested previously (unless there is a reason why you can't).

They are:

Change the English text from 'In charging' to 'Charging'
Speed up the graphic cycle time to about 15 seconds

Both of these changes would make the appearance of Androkkid more professional looking and would definitely win another donation from me :)

teacher, I am guessing you've tried every variation... but I understand this problem exactly. (i've spent 4 years with windows mobile just trying to answer simple phonecalls: they, as always , are partially at fault due to retarded interface. htc phone canvas finally made answering a simple phonecalls not a mind-numbing ordeal ). with s2u2 it works best when you turn off every phone feature incl especially caller id. all that stuff like "blank screen" and whatever else, disable all in s2u2 prefs... then, when a call comes , it does pass the call thru to phone canvas...... that improved things a lot! Not sure if this solution is what you are looking for:

There is a free application called PQz_key.exe that simulates key presses. If you use that app with the command line argument D:85, it invokes the built in windows mobile lock facility. I have it as a shortcut in Androkkid on my o2 XDA Stellar (Tytn II clone) running WM6.1 and it works fine, locking the phone, but allowing calls to be answered.

First of all i dont have a method to lock/unlock the device, i use S2U2 in my device.
Second i want add a variables to save the last folders used for icons and applications.

And now the answers:

1. To turn off grid go to Androkkid Settings and set 1x1 in Grid dimension;
2. I dont know why the rendering of icons is bad, in my Diamond is correct, i think it is a problem of dimension of icons or Extraction of icon from Executables;
3. Each developer can create his widget how it want, it can use directly graphics object without resize the fonts or other bitmaps. I have uploaded some examples but the developer can modify the use of variables (See the Analog Clock source code, in it i dont resize anything);
4. No my posts start with "Bye" word and i write before of it. :)

Talk about retarded wm. Here are some of the things which make my HTC x7510 lightyears in front of the software nightmare it was out of the box.
If i manage to display the picture beneath you can see what makes my day much easier
Just one click for everything and no going looking deep in submenus
I made a lot of shortcut links to windowscalls and all you have to do is to put them in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and after you restart Androkkid they show up in the Androkkid programs interface. Then all you have to do is to assign an icon

I installed the Androkkid on my iPaq 2400 series pocket pc, and although it took me awhile to get it up and running, it is so well worth any effort. I had some issues with NET 3.5, but it has performed flawlessly since installed, and I now am trying to find the perfect PNG's for all the applications. 5 pages worth, love the ability to view my pictures, and the background scrolls so smooth. Very good job on this program, beats everything out there!

i apologize if this has been asked, I searched and didn't see it. I have the zip version and put it in my program files, but everytime I try to run I get "DirectoryNotFoundException" error, any suggestions?

Did you just put the exe file in the program folder or the entire unzipped Androkkid folder. I've never heard of your error before

First of all i dont have a method to lock/unlock the device, i use S2U2 in my device.

Anyways... at this point I no longer care for Androkkid to have this functionality as I am now enjoying Throttle Lock, which is an Android like locking program. It's quite nice. ;)

No but seriously neither ifonz nor Androkkid has ever had anything like that and the developer has always promoted S2U2 in a big way and he uses that himself.
Most of the people you find on XDA try a lot of different apps on their devices so maybe you somhow triggered some remnant in the register of an old app that you have forgotten about

yes sir, I left everything the way it was in the zip. Just moved the Androkkid folder to "Program Files". The initial splash screen comes up then I get the error. I have 3.5 installed and had no problem running iFonz 1 or 2. I'm able to open and save settings but the program crashes on me

This is very strange. You can ofcourse try to run it from another location because Androkkid can be run from anywhere you like on your device. Just speculating now.. Could something have gone wrong during download, maybe you should download it again and see if you get the same result.

thanks for your help teacher, I still can't get it to work. I tried redownloading, moving it to the root directory, and installing the cab.....still same problem :mad:

If you have patience enough to try out stuff. How about trying out Androkkid. 0.80 to see if that works for you. 0.8.0 is damn good anyway

By the way don't use the cab. Use Androkkid cabless, so much better in my experience. If you have used the cab version untill now you should definitely try the cabless version.

surrealbliss, same thing happened to me on first launch, just as you describe. Seems like it had the same black background as the programs tray. The first version I loaded was .8 on my TP running stock Alltel rom.

On my IPAQ 214 .net3.5 WM6.5, when I switch between portrait and landscape, Androkkid does not update. i.e. If started in portrait it loads fine, but if I then switch to landscape it basically rotates Androkkid to landscape but with portrait mode dimensions and vice versa. Also when I press START it briefly shows the menu then it disappears.

On a side note how much RAM does this use as I was thinking of loading it on to my HTC Universal, but that has limited RAM.

I had just got my new phone replacement and I updated it to the Sprint win6.1 with radio rom and then as described above... Third program I installed.

I'm going to be reinstalling Androkkid after I've just done a hard-reset which wipes the device drive. I'll install it to device and watch closely. No one has ever seen simo in real life. He could very well be an android with a wicked sense of humor trying to drive you mad, insane. We just don't know anything about this droid, other than he says "bye" a lot.

I like that you can install where you like, and not always in program files, but much more important is the fact that I remember that somebody had installing troubles and then when they went from cab to zip their troubles went away for no apparent reason. I can't remember how long ago I read it and it might have been for Ifonz not Androkkid but nevertheless...

nanomite: it's not a problem with androkkid, it's you trying to use it on an unsupported resolution.
it simply doesn't support landscape resolutions.

I need to wait the timer for it to be automatically lock:(

1. download a suitable 'lock' icon
2. create a new shortcut pointing the 'Link' field to PQz_key.exe
3. put D:85 in the 'Parameters' field
4. point the 'Image' field to the lock icon
5. Click OK

But i found another program which do the same thing as this one.
Lockandoff.exe will just lock your device and turn off the backlight at the same time!:D

Not really complicated, just the standard procedure for a shortcut to any application in Androkkid.

The advantage of PQz_key.exe is that you can create shortcuts to other functions also such as the DPad Left and Right keys to move the Androkkid screen one page left or right if you don't have 'finger gestures' available.

i tried both versions, and zipped and cab still nothing, i'll try reinstalled 3.5 to see if that helps
