this is great!

it will be better if this can be one of the full screen today items. Because if it's an application by itself, then you need to place the executable on the startup folder - for it to run when you boot your device.

Anyway, i left my htc some time ago and now running on samsung i780 - hopefully you'll have a version for that as well :P

It work with all resolutions and i think it go on all PDA.
For Today items i cant do it in .NET because i don't know C++ to do that.

Development continue...tomorrow i create a page on my site about "Androkkid" and post a lot of new image and if i have time i can do a video of pre release of this software.

For now is very wonderful and it go very quick in my HTC Diamond.

The "whatever" you call it, looks great, but I do hope it works better than Ifonz2. Never could get it to work right. The original Ifonz worked much better except I hated the "little dropping icons" as it loaded up.

I would suggest you ditch the splash screen as it takes up time to load, and users really don't want to see it. Putting a footer along the bottom in a small font with your site info does the same thing.

will this have a skinable analogue clock? also would this be able to use other Winmo plugins from 3re part developers such as galarm fring today agenda etc? If you make that workable manila and Chome will be extinct! Speccially since this would mean 3 customizable today screens ? I really miss making skins for retro clock with alarms and seconds it made a great timer :)
I think that if it were posible to undock the today plugin dll's and move them around on the screen...

I know it i not an eay thing to do, it is not really a request (especially ince I have not even downloaded the app yet); just a wish list. :)

As a user of your iFonz software, I obviously compare & contrast. I could be very wrong, but I believe you enjoy new challenges all the time, and your main reason for stopping development of iFonz is a new fascination with Android. For those who know & love Android, I am sure this is great news. For me? I'm a usability and UX designer, and so I focus on end usage, productivity, ease of use....

These are just neutral observations for me as an end user: What I see here is an only slightly different way to set up an application-launcher on your touchscreen phone from iFonz. Two versions before your last iFonz release, you built the continuous scrolling background into that app, with drag & drop capability anywhere across the entire background, which could be the equivalent of 4 "pages" of icons. So for me, it looks like your desire was to emulate a look & feel of Android...
... which is a great thing. For me as an end user, I don't see (yet) a "value-add" of this UI system/app launcher from iFonz, so for my own consistency of usage, I will stick with iFonz, which to me remains a phenomenal app, all versions.

I'm going to send this to someone I know in my neighborhood who is an Android UI & phone designer at Google, to show him what you've done for WM. It's been cool to watch XDA devs creating linux kernel for various WM phones, then running Android itself.

ahh, okay, so you're speaking of windows app menus and system settings? because those remain crappy windows defective, right? with tiny type?

I surely would love to use a phone platform interface that was 100% finger-friendly. hah hah, one of the biggest ironies is simo doesn't use his finger to demo this, rather a stylus, which clearly lags as he pulls across a background to move right to left -- and I am just betting a finger controls the responsiveness of Anrokkid much better than a stylus does...

This really is an excellent piece of software. I actually wish some of the features in this UI were present in Android itself, especially some of the more creative stuff like the icon locking and the icon config dialog.

I use stylus because if i use a fingers you dont look the actions of my Androkkid.
I have a big finger, sorry, but at home with my diamond with androkkid i use only finger all day.
For the graphics of program is all customizable and you can do a theme like HTC Sense.
The widgets come in future versions.
I think i can release first version very soon.

I know i'm a little bit early, but is on your version the phone working? I using and testing the [PRJ][OS]Linux and Android on HTC Diamond [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2326300&postcount=1] but there is the (micro) phone not working yet.

This isn't a ported emulation of Android, but a rewrited program named Androkkid for Windows Mobile 5/6 using Compact Framework 3.5.

This work with all WM 5/6 devices and in all resolution.

Is there anyway to let Androkkid use the standard microsoft's
GAC_Microsoft.WindowsMobile.*.dll instead of Microsoft.WindowsMobile.*.dll?
This will avoid conflicts with other apps.

relax mate, this guy is doing a hell of a job and invests a lot of time in it and its only a beta release so you might expect problems.

The problems with dll is born by installed ROM on device.
If you use some ROM cooked incorrectly it appear the problem, with Official Rom it work good.

I have Kimera Rom and it work good, with some ROM it show the error with Compact Framework.

Wooooooo, I have just seen the video and it seems to be great, I will give it a try. Also I like the zip option, so there will be no garbage in the PDA after trying it.


The only missing thing I see in the video is some icon or number to tell you in which page you are. With it, I see the software almost perfect. It is true that could be more integrated in the system using today plugin, but it is not a big work to put it in startup manually.

So, from my point of view, it is great, please add it some kind of index of the page in which we are, and it is done.

I dont know how much RAM it use i think with 4/5 Mb of ram in VGA you are secure but i think it use less ram

Amazing program. Thank you, SSJ5Trunks. Do you think it will be possible to remove the arrow at the bottom or press a button to make it appear?

Also can this program switch to landscape mode? I pressed my button to switch to landscape but only part of the screen changes.

I think the problem is with a program in you windows start menu, check in your cache folder in icons and look which th last icon created and the next that isnt created is the problem.

Well it stops at Camera for me, but in my Start Menu there isn't even a Camera program/file/icon. In fact, the icon folder doesn't build up in the same way that my start menu is ordered...

he wanted us to compare our start menu folder and our "icon folder" in Androkkid folder. By doing so, we could logically deduce what the problem was by the icon/program that doesn't appear next in the "Icon folder" but does appear in the Start Menu. The problem is that we can't, well I can't, really compare the folders because they are populating differently.

Also having the same error with my Samsung Omnia i910 WM6.5.

I checked Program Files\Androkkid\Cache\Icons and when I sort by modified the first icon is 'Favorite People.png' at the bottom of the list is 'Contacts.png'. Hope this helps.

for all you i910 users such as myself the problem is your rom i was using bw's wm7 and then tried bgills 2.4 and both didnt work so i flashed sikyou's 3.0.1 and it runs perfectly great job man i cant wait for all the other features

Nice program. Only issue I have is that the icons in the all programs list look somewhat blocky and ugly, unlike the native 6.5 start menu. Otherwise, it's a fine program which I look forward to using.

I work to Androkkid when i have time and now i have very less time, next future things to do are the Widgets but there are a lot of problems to solve if i want that everyone can make personal widget.
I look if it's possible in VB.NET, if anyone know the method to execute at runtime a code in a text file i appreciate the help.

I think Androkkid is more more useful and beatiful of iFonz because:
- you can make the same interface of iFonz if you want moving icons in a grid mode
- you can move icons and create personal pages
- you can create a blank page with only wallpaper
- in future you can add widget like, calendar appointments, clocks, meteo ecc...

Ok here is my input:

Omnia i900 XKHJ3

For people with an omnia who get the error:


Install androkkid on your device (not storage but device, worked better for me).
-Run, you will probabely get the error.
-Then go to Androkkid\Cache\Icons -> delete the last created icon.
-Run Androkkid again, you will probabely get the error again.
-Do these steps over and over and you will see that more icons are
appearing each time you restart androkkid.

Finally Androkkid will start and running. It took me about 15 minutes to do these steps over and over and then got it working. When you got it working and close and restart it it might give you an error again, no problem just try again till you got it.



My personal feedback on androkkid so far:

- Looks smooth except for the icons, they are a bit blocky (dont know the correct term :P)
- The sliding up of all the programs gets interrupted by omnias close program utility. (When u slide from bottom up you get some samsung close program manager)
- I found it hard to change screens, I really had to go from the most right side to middle to switch page.

So these are three little things i found but for the rest it's really amazing, I'm really looking forward to further releases!

Hey Simo, This software kicks A$$ big time. Works great on my LG insite running on the memory card! I have a couple suggestions/ questions.

1. windows top bar off
2. auto align the icons, so its easier to space them similarly. but i do like how you can float them too.
3. can i change the programs tab settings (for the bottom of the screen), to a different folder. as to select the programs that appear in that tab? (thats a biggy)
4. Yeah widgets, but you plan on that.

But awsome work! I love how its similar to iFonz, but way better! My favorite feature has to be the background advancing with the pages!! Great! Glad to hear you will keep workingon this project!!!

Tap and hold the icon you want to edit, then drag it to the pencil looking icon to bring up the edit screen. all you need to do now is click the type drop down menu and select the type of icon and at the bottom of the deit menu is a tick boxs to block the icon. click okay and your on your way.

The minimize program in the utils folder doesn't seem to work for my Touch pro (Fuze). it minimizes, and then it returns to normal view. Any body else figured out a work around?

Now that is one cool theme! How did you setup the buttons to show as (-), (+)), and Applications?

From info that smokeydonuts provided, I started thinking. I went back to my ifonz2, and did an Edit Icon for the ones I need. The menu gave me the path, icon type etc. It should be easy to enter the info to Androkkid.

I do recommend that the developer put in a "page indicator" as in ifonz2 since I arrange my icons my usage: Daily, System or Device settings, Useful apps, etc.

Since Androkkid loads ALL windows programs, my battery life went way down. I did not seem to have that problem with ifonz2.

Still a good GUI.

Me neither. I think a new version will be coming out soon. Developer didn't waist any time releasing Androkkid 0.4.0 as soon as he returned from vacation.
I guess he got a good rest! :)

With ifonz and ifonz 2, he learned the best and the worst, so Androkkid should be a pure slide.

Only thing is, it loads all Windows programs which is definetely draining the battery faster. Not sure what, if anything can be done about that.

Oh well, better to have a great program and worry about the battery later.;)

I dont think the battery drain has to do with it loading all the programs. From my understanding when it loads them it only would load the location and icons and move them cached folder, not actually run them. I havent seen any battery drain on my Fuze but then again i dont look at my battery level all that offten. It could just be a simple memory leak and thats a easy fix that im sure wont be over looked.

This is because emails and texts are all handled by the same program, I'm sure a work around can be made at some point in later development with this program because you are able to do what you're asking in TF3D and Titanium.

Since whole project is written in .net it would be perfect if you make widgets as dlls, so your shell would load dlls and you have to provide APIs to be used from dlls to display widget content. It wouldn't be too hard to implement and you can add new APIs as community start to ask for them. And this concept has one more advantage, full development can be done from VS enviroment.

Try using S2U2 by A_C its one of the best lock screes out there and its free. you can also have it set to auto lock when you sleep the device and works great with Androkkid. You can also yet it to lock when you click the program like you have it set up now.

The Widget system is ready, now anyone can create itself a widget!
When i created a Clock Widget i post the source code of project created in VS 2008 and a Default project to start create a new widget.

The source code is in VB.NET and it is very simple create widgets.

When i post in my site this projects i release new version.

The Samsung keyboards and most other keyboards do not have a Control key. All programs have a menu or tap and hold option for Copy and Paste.

wow! can't wait! I would just like to maybe see these widgets as part of a standard "package" so to speak:

Clock (which you've done! =])
Contacts (scrollable, not like MS3, more like Sense UI)
Notifications (for smses, emails, etc) - if possible, to actually be able to read them on the actual widget! =D
Weather
Calendar
Music player

I know that's a lot! But I think those widgets would make this a real winner :D

Other themes for now i dont create, but you can create one if you want.
For create widget you must know Visual Basic or Visual Basic .NET with Visual Studio 2008.

I next version i hope this error from omnia is resolved (Only Omnia have this problem).

With Androkkid I really like the "blue lake" the default wallpaper, but when I put my own icons they sort of messed up the nice blue lake, so I had this idea that I could use an iconframe to give the icons a uniform look but also leave the icons transparent to let them merge with the background in a much better way. I just started this and I would like to now what you guys think so I'm sending you a homescreen screenshot example. I think it's nice. Any comments? Simo?

It's pretty comprehensive because he's made tons of icons upon request... he's also released the photoshop template file... and, in addition, various contributors to that thread have converted the whole set to various alternate .png sizes, also .bmp sets, also .ico sets ...

Let me also add a general-interest note: With the release of the spectacular new Opera Mini just the other day, XDA dev JZ SmartMort modified his scripts to enable people to create smart-linked icons that launch the new OperaMini going to specific destination pages.

Bluemetalaxe is a better graphic artist than I'll ever be but in this particular instance I have this feeling that I've gotten a very good idea. I plan to make a whole series of these transparent icons and ofcourse make them available here.

I dont know why your icons looks bad, the code to draw images is the same of all other ifonz version.

I think your icons have a problem of compression like jpg, use png format.
Send me any icons and i test it.

I think we have a misunderstanding, I think the ordinary window icons look bad, not mine. I think mine look very fine:D

when i put that nice app on my touch hd
whit normal windows 6.5 manila 2.5
everything was good

now on my new wm6.5 (taskbarstart to buttom(big pushbuttums)
and i have the app installed...works great
but i dont have the sms messenger program :S

and i cant push the start...everytime i must to minimize the app

same for clock and the rest of my settings

I have been using ifonz 2.0.6 for months - great app, thx.

I thought I'd try androkkid but I get an error message after the splash screen.

Do I have to uninstall ifonz before loading adrokkid? .net 3.5 is loaded otherwise ifonz wouldn't work!

I was wondering if it would be possible to use other today plugins. I really like Weatherpanel and would like to continue using that. I tried to use it with SecondToday, but since that activates the today screen, I only get a glimpse of it, before it goes back to Androkkid.
Also, I don't know if this has already been asked, but it would be great if you could go to the first screen when you are on the last, so that the sliding can go in a circular motion.

First things first, the more I use this software, the more I love it!!! Great job over all!

Just an idea, I would love it if there were a way to hide the icons on any given screen. Maybe with a hardware button, or with a motion. I guess kind of like a screen saver. When I unlock my phone I would love it if androkkid opened only the background view, and had to "make" the icons apear.Maybe when the clock widget is ready, just that could be displayed, until the icons were called for. This could maybe be a selectable feature in the settings menu. If there were any interest.

p.s. Yes granted I could just set up the first of my pages blank and have to scroll to any pages with set icons (which is what I did). I just think this idea might be a slick one.

The clock widget is ready, i hope when release new version of Androkkid anyone create widgets for all users.

The widget system is very simple is a DLL file that contains a required Class called "Widget" with 4 Methods:
- LoadWidget
- RenderWidget
- DisposeWidget
- ClickWidget

Each method have parameters passed from Androkkid during use.

When i release new version i post the source code of my widgets and you can look how i have created.

I dont know why it drain battery, i check it, but my Diamond work well and i dont look any drain battery on it.

In Androkkid there is a timer that redraw every 40 milliseconds the graphics only when the program is in use, when it lost focus it stop timer.

for smoother default icons i recommend setting icon size to 64x64(vga) or 32x32(qvga)
these are the actual resolutions of the icons, and it will look very smooth in the app list.

is it possible to do anything with the X?
right now it's treated as a regular close button, but it would be nice(if possible) if it could be used to call the HTC task switcher like in the normal today screen.

I'm such a new user that I'm not even sure why I downloaded this. Who knows who cares....

This is a very smooth UI

Here is my input as an end user:

While running Androkkid (which is always because I have moved a shortcut to androkkid.exe to my windows/startup) the problem is multitasking, I believe.
You see, since it is an app, the top right of the display is an x and not a down arrow or 'task manager'. It is an app that is running over the desktop.

So when I run cleanRAM and the result comes up, I need to either run e-native's showcase, or minimize my favorite user interface (androkkid) to see the cleanRAM result and close it.

I feel like there needs to be some unity with the desktop so that androkkid can still be on top of all other programs, but still you can control what is going on the desktop i.e. applications running in the background.

Also, I noticed that the tray that you pull up from the bottom which has all of your programs in it will extract folder contents to that tray.
If anyone has played 'fighter' you know that it is an .exe that you need to leave in the folder. So I keep that in my games folder. Well when I pull up my programs tray in androkkid to make a new shortcut or start a program, I have to sift through all of the components of that game that androkkid has made into shortcuts for that tray.

Androkkid kicks a LOT off ass...

in your case that game is to blame for not complying with the rules.
games aren't supposed to be installed in the startmenu, only shortcuts and readme files are supposed to go there.
