View Full Version : IM Messanger

Hi Folks. I have a problem with my PDA. I use HTC P4531 (Unlocked). I use it on T-Mobile network. Since the PDA is unlocked, I had to manually set up GPRS connection, so that I can send/receive MMS. + I have Mobile Net on my PDA. A T-Mobile version of this phone is T-Mobile Wing. I used to have one before I bought this unlocked device (got an offer on it that I couldn't pass up). The WING has this "OZ Messenger" on it. People who use or used a T-Mo Wing should know what this app is. Anyway, I found a *.cab file of this app, installed it, and it doesn't work for me. Before trying to log on to any networks, I went in to "Connections" and manually turned this connection on. But when I was trying to log on to AIM service, I got a text message saying:
WV11RL1 ST=(200,"Successful") SI=1.1Ax18be29624131ada3809e265da1811866 CI=wv:OZ4121#1qxI@HTC.PPC KA=60000
From: 4670
How can I use this application? Again - I have mobile net and I set the connection up for GPRS.
P.S. If you know how to get a certain app to work similar to this one, for a fact, please let me know. Thank You

Hi people. I don't think you guys get this.
I DO NOT HAVE/USE T-MOBILE WING!! I HAVE/USE an unlocked HTC P4351 (Physically the same thing as T-Mo Wing). Not The Same SOFTWARE as T-Mo Wing though!! I can't just connect to anything without setting up a connection first!!

Huh????????
Palringo (the one that you quoted) uses a Data Plan. So, you could use that on your phone, IF you have a respectable data plan through your carrier.
And then the T-Mobile OZ Communicator, that might work on your phone. It's worth a try. OZ Communicator works without a data plan, and through SMS.

The thing is, OZ is installed, but when I run it and try to log on to AIM network (or any other), it DOESN'T turn on my GPRS connection. I strongly believe I need to set it up!! My MMS wasn't set up neither, I found instructions on the net and manually added the connection for it to use. I think this needs the same!!

I told you!!!!!! OZ Communicator DOESN'T USE DATA PLAN!!!!!
It uses your SMS plan. Txting. That's the whole point of it, people can use AIM without paying for data!
So, did it work then?? Did it log in?

N O!! Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! When it is installed on a T-Mo Wing, when you try to log on to AIM (to take this network as an example) on the T-Mo Wing - it turns on some "GPRS" connection, and signs on.
For me - I don't have that GPRS connection set up for anything else other then for MMS (I configured this connetion MYSELF), so when I try to log on to any of the networks - it doesn't turn anything on.
Take MMS, when you try to send a MMS message, it also turns some "GPRS" connection on - I don't believe it’s the same connection. I don't have "GPRS" connection set up for this kind of stuff!! I need to set up an addition one, and to turn on automatically as soon as I try to log on using this OZ Communicator.
I don't think it’s the same connection as for MMS, I turned it manually on, and tried to log in with this OZ Communicator, and it didn't do anything. Another possibility is - I don't have the right OZ Messenger (not intended for HTC). Some other *.cab file I found here.

It doesn't use MMS, I'm 99% sure. It uses your SMS connection. So yea, idk.

That is my point, kind of!! How do I get this program to use that?? It needs to log in, and be able to send/receive Instant Messages, all using my SMS gateway. How do I set it up this way?!?

U don't have to set it up. I never did (I'm running a custom ROM, btw).
Idk. I have no clue on how to further fix it. Sorry.

That should be the right cab. U should just have to follow the program's instructions. Just run it, and use it. That's all I did.

Well then I guess it doesn't work on...
Wait, are you even using the T-Mobile network?? I bet it won't work unless it's T-Mobile network.
And if you're on T-Mobile, then I guess it only works with the Wings. Sorry.

That is why I said I needed to set the connection up first!!!!!! I use an HTC version of the Wing (Unlocked). I had to manually set the connection up for it to send/receive MMS, so I know for a fact that I also need to set up some other connection for this to work. Again I have HTC P4351, a HTC device NOT T-Mobile!!

Again - I use an UNLOCKED HTC - YES I do use T-Mobile Service!! My number is T-Mobile.
But the device itself IS NOT a T-Mo Branded!! It’s a HTC!! MMS wasn't set up neither. I configured the connection myself.

My phone is an unlocked HTC. It doesn't have anything of T-Mo's on it. YES - I use it with my T-Mo number.
It wasn't set up to send MMS; I found directions and set it up. Nothing works in regards to ANY IM programs I download from of on-line.

Yea.....so it won't work.
Apparently it seems like you must have a Wing, on the T-Mobile network, for the IM to work.
Sorry, but it just will not work.

No way to get it working, from what I know.
I know there are other services that let you IM through TXT messages, I think Windows Live is one of those. And there are some third-party apps that can let you IM through TXT messages, too, I believe. If there's a need, there's usually a developer, and I think the need is there, so that means there's probably an app. Search around for it.

Oh, that was a bad link. I was just reading another thread, that asked the same question, and I guess someone posted that link there. That app is for giving you threaded-style SMS, NOT for using AIM.
So yea, there is something else out there. That's what Search is for. You can try seeing if you can find anything. I'm busy creating ROM's, updating other things, and trying to help people. And right now, I don't have time to search for an IM program that works via SMS. Sorry. You can search for yourself for now.
When you do find something, post the link here, and that way, when someone else in the future looks at this thread, they will have an answer. Also, edit the first post with the link, too, saying SOLVED, so that someone in the future can easily get an answer. It's called "paying it forward".

Ok, just try AIM's own service
http://mobile.aol.com/aolproducts/aimtxt?loc=aim
You just use your standard SMS.
Setup
Setup IM Fowarding (http://mobile.aol.com/aolproducts/imforwarding) if you haven't already.
On your phone, add the number, 246246, to your phone's contact's. Name it AIM Mobile or something.
Create a new text message to that new contact. In the text field, enter, "login"
You will then be prompted for your screen name and password. Reply with them. Once you've replied and logged in, you will recieve instructions.
Got it??
That's only for AIM, of course. I think Live Messenger has a similar service, too. Is that all you wanted, just AIM?? Happy?

I HAVE a T-Mobile Wing.
I doubt you'll find an actual application for it. Most of those are developed by carriers, FOR carriers. That means they don't want others leaching off the service.
If you can find an app that isn't made by a carrier and that works, then all props to you. But you can search as well as I can. I couldn't find anything, so sorry, but I'm done looking.
