hi,

as you can see, I've got quite unusual problem with my vox.

the phone screen goes black, it blinks once the right green diode for half a second (could this be an error code?) and turns itself off. (not saving any changes made, or sms sent/recieved)

it usually happens when I make a phonecall, or browse the net, but lately it has started to happen randomly, when I browse the menu, or use any other programs.

What's interesting, is that after turning the phone back on form such a malfunction, the battery status shows it's below 20% and turns itself off again almost instantly.

The only solution I've found so far, is to wait some time, switch it on again, and pray that the battery indicator would show the state before malfunctionong. If it does, the phone could work as long as the battery remains charged (or turn itself off again, as it happens more frequently lately)

Does anybody hav some clue what could it be? malfunction of the battery, or phone itself?

I dont think it's a software issue, because just yesterday I replaced WM6.1 (drGonzo) with wm 6.5 ( the 2.1 ver by frauhottelmann)

and it still occusrs.

Yeah i am also facing the same problem with my Vox...it is around 1.5 yrs old...and i know its battery is dying:(...but it happens even the battery is fully charged...

Is it really because of the battery or some hardware...

FIrst of all check the battery mates.
Me and my friend both had the vox that with full battery charged suddenly turned off after a call...and definitely was THE BATTERY.

Now I bought a double capacity for about 10 euros shipped...and my vox stays on without intensive usage (3-4 calls of 4 min each, and about 10-15 sms for about 8 (EIGHT) days)

Try to empty the battery completely and then recharge it completely!
To really empty it, put it in boot loader and unplug the cable. Let it sit until the screen turns off. Then recharge it without turning the device on.

My phone has started doing this recently, it doesnt seem to be as bad if I put it on Aircraft mode, but it always turns off randomly after a while at least, I am going to try frauhottelmann idea now.
Also, if it works I would like to flash it to WM6.5, how can I check to see if I need the USLP? I got the phone second hand so I am not sure what the phone was originally.

Since i m facing the same problem and that now it is confirmed that it is due to battery, I wished to try FMs idea. but its now more than 2 days in bootloader, my phone is still not discharged completely. is there any other way to completely discharge the battery?

Well, seems your battery has plenty of life! LoL

BTW I suggest you to activate BT and WIFI...then run TCMP into loop and maximum volume...
the phone should run out fast...when the phone suts itself off..you could do the FM's thing just to refine the discharge.

No luck with this method. The problem still persists. It is still turning off randomly.
Guess finally, i'll have to change the battery. hope after changing the battery the problem gets solved.

actually i think i have a different kind of problem... my mobiles do not restarts instantly, the screen first fades to grey (as if the lcd is damaged with only grey and white vertical lines visible), and then to black and then it restarts. has any one faced similar problems? Can this be solved by changing the battery?

and i dont know but somehow each time i set the correct TIME in the clock, after sometime my clock slows and shows the wrong time(as in case of a wall clock with weak batteries).
any suggestions?

An easier way to turn the phone off other than having to remove and rinsert the battery if the power button does not work, is to open the Sim card door.

you should have ur phone's flex cable checked. the flex cable is what connects both halves of the phone together. maybe that's turned loose.

Hi all,
The vox has a few power issues.

1) If you find the clock is resetting, the internal backup battery has gone faulty, All htc phones suffer from this after a while, especially if at sometime they have been left for a long time with no main battery in. I have taken delivery of new phones with dead backup batteries...
Its not a problem and no data will be lost, you just have to reset the time if the battery is removed, they are a cow to replace so unless your good at working with surface mount components I would give it a miss.

2) Dirty Batteries. The recess around the battery contacts tends to gather muck, take a rolled up tissue or cotton bud (q-tip) and clean all the gold pads well on the battery and battery contacts of the phone.

3) bent battery contacts/third party battery issues.
I have seen many with a problem with the far right hand battery contact.
if it looks bent carefully straighten it so it goes into the battery recess.
If you use a third party battery you may have to bend the contact to accommodate the poor molding....
Slowly insert the battery watching all four contacts, if the right hand one starts moving first (they should move together) it usually means its a flaky mold and you need to bend the contact carefully to the right a little. This problem usually shows its self by the phone switching off when the keyboard is being closed (quickly/firmly) or the phone is banged/shocked.

4) Sim door, this is rare but if the sim door is damaged or loose as it has a switch on it it may cause problems, but on the whole if it fits well isn't damaged and jiggling it doesn't caused the phone to die its ok.

General Battery stuff.
Lithium's are a bit odd, they don't like being fully charged and they REALLY don't like being flat, always try and recharge at between 10-30% and if possible stop at 90% you will get more charge-discharge cycles that way. Simply letting a battery go flat and not recharging soon can kill them. Taking the battery to shutdown and a full charge every few months should be enough to keep the battery gauge calibrated on a good battery.
When they get to end of life they can give very misleading battery levels, either going from full to say 50% very quickly then seem to be ok or being ok to start with then dropping quickly.

Basically if the battery is behaving erratically as far as life is concerned if the contacts are clean 98% of problems will be solved by replacing it.

But sudden death syndrome is a bit different (though if its happening when wifi is switched on or a call made it may well be the battery) and can be caused by almost anything, the previous mention of ribbon cable is quite a good one, but in that case it will almost always die (when its going to) when you open or close the keyboard (not to be confused with the shock of snapping the keyboard shut above - it will die even if you close the keyboard with care)
If its passing the keyboard opening/closing test, the battery is good, and the contacts clean my last suggestion before relegating the phone to a service center or replacement is to reformat the internal flash, The easiest way to do this is flash back to a provider or htc rom then re-flash. Another tip when flashing is once you have flashed and rebooted do a hard reset straight away.. I don't know why but it often helps.

As for surfboardcm's problem I'm not clear as to if the phone is crashing or the screen is just going black, If just going black and the phone stays running (screen returns without restarting) the most likely issues are the ribbon cable as mentioned or faulty display, though as with sudden death it could be a poor contact on any of the boards which really unfortunately writes these phones off now being as a second hand phone can be bought on fleabay for Ģ30

Best of luck

i have the same problem with my vox... the damn battery is dead... if you want to know for sure that your batteri is dead then put the phone on the charger and play with it if i dosent make any sudden black-outs then the battery is DEAD!
i have tryed to mood my batteri with a Nokia bl5c battery but i did not made it... i dissassembled the vox batery pack and removed the initial battery and saved the littel pcb that was in the battery pack...
i have dissassembled the nokia battery and removed the initial battery form the pack... solderd the nokia li-ion battery to the little htc pcb and put it intro the vox...
Wen i pressed power there was smoke and the little battery pcb was dead... so i did not make it...

If some one knows how to modd a battery tel me i gona try it!
Sorry 4 my english...
