View Full Version : Is my O2 XDA EXEC dead?

I bought an XDA EXEC on Ebay as 'spare or repair' which had a damaged screen which I replaced with my M5000 screen.
I unlocked it with Buzz's unlocker which worked fine. I tried my Vodafone sim which had no service so I then tried an O2 sim which had the same problem no service.
I have tried countless Radio ROMs and still the same.
I am now using Tomal's - v8.2: WM6.1 Pro
Rom version D.08.20 TML WWE
Radio version 1.09
Protocol version 42.42.P8
I have also rolled back to the original O2 XDA EXEC ROM but have the same issue with no service.
Could this be an antenna issue? or is it just dead?
Any help would be great. Thanks.

When I soft reset my uni next to my daughters baby monitor I can hear the uni searching for a signal through the baby monitor and then I get the no service again. Not sure if this would help any of you identify my problem?

Could be antenna. Blacklisted, perhaps?

do you have active service on the sims that you are putting in?

I phoned O2 last week to see if it was blocked? But the bloke I spoke to wasn't interested and basically told me my uni is dead without checking to see if it was blocked, I might attempt to ring again later?
How could I find out if the antenna is not working?
Is there a link on this site that has a picture of the inside of uni so I know what I am looking for if I was to change the antenna?
Thanks for your reply.

I have tried 3 sims which all work in other phones just not this one. Even though I have no signal I still get the 'G' next to the antenna icon.

When you open your Uni, the antenna is a large white plastic part attached to the mainboard by 3 screws and housing your camera lens and flash.

On the pic you can see the Uni on the left with large white antenna visible. Make sure it connects to the mainboard underneath, there should be metallic prongs that should be touching the contacts on the board. When re-assembling, make sure the copper foil is attached the way it was, don't forget the flash connector position, if you reverse it, the flash will not work.

There is a website (I don't remember the URL now) where you can feed your IMEI number and it says if the phone was blacklisted. Google for it.

Edit: The website now does it for a fee (£1.99) but I've found this link that could be useful for IMEI check: http://forum.whatmobile.net/showthread.php?t=38259

I used a site a week ago that checks your IMEI for free which came back with UNBLOCKED but as a read somewhere on this site that someone tried the same site which said theres was UNBLOCKED when it was actually blocked.
So I'm not to sure about that site anymore???

Still need to phone O2 but its Sunday so that will be tomorrow now!

Ok I have phoned O2 for them to tell me the uni is blacklisted as far back as two years ago and can never be used again so its as good as dead? unless theres away of replacing a part inside with my old M5000 which will bring it back to life???
If this can be sorted then I will be a happy man again!!!

For your Uni to work, it needs a new mainboard. It is unclear from your previous post whether your M5000 works now, but if it doesn't, I say replacing the mainboard will not do a single bit of difference.

Thats a shame! My M5000 wouldn't switch back on after a ROM install failed which I took battery out thinking Sim was still in uni which it wasn't and never switched back on afterwards and PC would not recognise device.
