Basically it changed "reply" to "reply all" within the messaging app

Did anyone find the solution for this? Should be a Lock icon but is instead a copy of the Windows icon. Could be a simple reference to the wrong icon in the code, or the icon itself is bad.

And NO this is NOT a duplicated or old MUI dll - I have already checked. I have only one file with the word shell in the filename in my OEM and EXT packages - shellcelog.dll. It's also not the provxml in the base_dpi folder - the syntax is valid. It must be something else.
OK - I figured this out. I had some file attribute problems on a couple of provxmls that were preventing them from running.

CDMA Touch Pro, old-style (buildos, packagetools) kitchen.

And good suggestion from someone else on using stock themes and modifying from there. MS is changing these things so fast getting ready for Oct 6 that it's near impossible to apply a user theme without it screwing up something MS has changed.

i'm using rock and republick _setup.xml + my two background files with
tsk.bat
cabarc N %1.tsk %1\*.*
this way are the registry settings all there and the custom theme is working fine
just edit in _setup.xml name off new theme :D

cabmanager allways screwed some registry entries :D

dir ultimate

STWATE~1.001
STWATE~2.002
_setup.xml

tsk.bat ultimate => ultimate.tsk :cool:

For me, checkboxes haven't been fixed in the Settings>HOmescreen>Items. They still show the transparency mask in magenta color around them.

And some of the places are showing the ugly radio buttons, non skinned. Specially annoying in the volume control :o

For me, checkboxes haven't been fixed in the Settings>HOmescreen>Items.
I ment checkboxes near two or three-lined menu items - they were twice or more bigger than ones near one-lined menu items.
Magneta ring around? Not so fast, dude! MS guys must release next&next&one after next build to prolong the contract with the company :) The same about some buttons...

I've a problem with 21857. i've lost my SD Card!... it's OK with all the other builds (21854, 23052...) but not 21857.

could it be a pb of DPI, Lang or something else?

@sapcejam: No, 23016 and 23017 were in the COM3 tree (...), so even though they feature old UI and have higher build number, they are old. 21857 was compiled just a few days back. Actually, dont judge the builds on basis of build number. Development of WM 6.5 is going on under multiple build series, so the build number just indicates which development tree it belongs to and how higher it is in its own tree. (...).

I'm still wondering (and did not found any answer here) about trees and branches. It seems that in some days, not more than 2 months, WM6.5 will reach the market. And there are 3 or 4 main trees ( 218xx, 219xx, 230xx, 234xx) working at the same time. I suspect one or two of those trees will stop in WM 6.5 and some others will be called WM 7 after some big changes, mainly because of commercial reasons ( Windows 7 and WM 7 together ). Having 4 trees and 4 teams working is not economical ! (well, 4 teams and the whole xda-dev's doing unpaid but good job - the best betatesters team for M$)
Independently of the graphics of every tree (and I love the old style) there must exist some other big differences between branches and trees.
In my Kaiser, cooking simplest 23403 and 23009 gave better results in the 230xx branch but I don't know why, as I'm not a technician.

Can somebody, *** PLEASE *** tell something more about trees and branches and what can we hope of every one of those trees ? ( of course, there's a classified info secret in some aspects that we must respect and don't know :( )

I just cooked a 6.5 rom. But I got a few questions:

I have a HTC Artemis 96DPI 240 x 320 res.

I used a shipped HTC rom as base.

Evreything went oke but the today screen seems to be pixelated atleast the time and such is it the DPi and res or is something gone wrong?

Also My phone wont read my SD card Anymore, i removed it before flashing.

Also I seem to have some left overs from HTC like the screen where you put your pin I want to have the 6.5 default I got the same thing at Comm Manager.

Did I do something wrong? I searched coudnt find a solution

Thanx In Advance,

i really hope msft work on performance, the performance of these 6.5 roms are terrible. scrolling is very slow, and everything feels like it is 1sec behind and jerky.

the start menu is very slow, i dont quite understand why, as htc managed to get a very stable and fast working menu.

I wish we had the actual tools used by the makers of these phone ROMs, sometimes. Seems every time I start with new files I break something! LOL

And yet I am still addicted... how bad is that?

Searching, searching, searching - for the answer now, I know it is out there.

It's just that I imagine that HTC, for instance, does not have to wait until the phone doesn't boot to know there is a problem.

That is not meant as any kind of insult to the great minds who have given us all these excellent kitchens - without which I would not be able to get my phone booting with a new ROM at all. It is just that I imagine that the process HTC uses would be different, and I wonder what they do.

-- Simply put, this musing stems from my wondering mind as I try to figure out what I broke when I put 23052 in my kitchen. :) I know I did IT I just don't know what IT is.

218xx = COM2, continuing dev of 6.5.0.50
219xx = MD, feature branch (unstable features are added here, backported to 218xx (this tree is based on COM1, so older base os code, but the UX code is newer [user experience])
230xx = COM3, continuing development of 6.5.0.60
234xx = COM4, continuing development of 6.5.1

Yes, this can be found in #3414 and some thousand posts before, and in some other threads in the Forum.
I mean AKU1, COM2, COM3, COM4 (and maybe COM1) are 5 different trees with their "branches" and "leaves" so that they will grow up in different ways. But only one (or two) WM 6.5 will be officially launched. And only one of the branches will continue to another version. And I'm curious about which one of them will be. Maybe more than one ? Like COM2 to be the "conservative" or "business" version and COM3 the "amusing" one or COM4 the most radical one (something like different versions for different devices and different kind of users).
If you are working in a project, you'll try to solve bugs one by one, and modify things in the project. If you work on 4 parallel projects, and try to create an only result, you won't be able to mix the different things. I think. Not because it seems impossible (Evolution and genetics show what amoutn of different combinations we can do) but because it's a big effort you can't do if you want to play against other people. This can only be done if you plan different exits for every project -maybe creating your own device ? - and also if you plan to be in the market with different faces. I presume old devices and old software won't work in final COM3 or COM4 trees, but will be able to work in COM1 and COM2 ones, so if only a COM4 version goes to market this will lower the number of WM devices as people (and developers) will put a big effort in renovating their devices and software. But if the path goes to COM1, then the innovative OS's will increase and WM will miss place.

1. What registry key is responsible for transparency of top and bottom bar on today? I don't know what I have changed but they are not transparent any more. I have to click on start menu to make them transparent.

2. What registry key is resposible for setting default system font size as normal? Now by default they are bigger then normal ---> picture attached.

Just upgraded to build 23052 from build 23047. It sure is nice to finally have taskbar functionality back in every screen. Thanks Da_G for sharing this and all previous builds with us.

A few of my initial findings:

- Replies to text messages (sms)never reached the destination number! Tried twice, but to the same number. Related to my phone operator, or to this build. Too early to say. Text messaging works perfectly on build 23047 for me in both directions.

- Volume control has the ugly unfinished selection circles. They were fixed in build 23047, so why are we back to the work in progress dialog!

- Push email functionality for exchange allows one to select peak times. In build 23047 Microsoft has a bug. They only show a 12 hour clock instead of a 24 hour clock, making that feature useless (unless you consider your peak hours to only be within the first 12 hours of the day). That bug was NOT present in previous builds. Haven't had a chance to check it in build 23052; hope they fixed it.

Anyway, I have put together my popular Bare ROM for build 23052 and those interested are welcome to download it. You can find the link in my signature.

.

yes, i wish they kept the good graphics in volume control
i was actually hoping that this build would have better graphics on the arrows for volume level & not just the circles...was surprised to se that it is a step back

maybe someone can find which file or folder was responsible for the circles in 23047 so we can copy it if possible
or we will just have to wait for the next build & hope

It works fine in my end. Someone with my kitchen had the same issue but with 23047 and it had to do with one of the packages they had used in the kitchen.

I dont really understand what you're trying to say.

You've included an old comm manager and used HTC graphics..
You need to go through your OEM folders and sort it out for yourself.
I'd suggest for a starters looking for all images that are bright green, shouldn't be too hard to spot!

It's good to see so many ppl cooking;
but part of the process of learning to cook is to work through your problems, and actually work out what it is you're putting in the pot :rolleyes:

Most of the issues that seem to be reported in this thread are because ppl have added or taken away stuff that they shouldn't.

Its a shame, 23049 its way better then 23052

- Task Bar icons from 23049 looks better

At first impression I don't see other relevant changes.

had a Q!!!

after seeing the icon registries at first page i saw that my icons are not the default in the start menu and i was wondering why... well so the fact here is, i move the icons to another location than the default start menu root... so the icons that i place there on root have the default icons.... but theicons in my new folders has my old icons... why? maybe it tooks the shell icon by default as Da_g say so, i search in the re-arangement provxml startmenu bla bla bla and i see this... shit:

<characteristic type="File Explorer.lnk">
<parm name="Rank" value="900000778" datatype="integer" />
<parm name="Icon" value="\Windows\Start_Icon_FileExp.png" datatype="string" />
</characteristic>

So... i believe that this provxml creates the registry related to the start menu icons... and if you can see the regkey tree:

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/8790/dibujo8g.jpg

So the created Folder called connection is not a folder... thats why it cant recognize the insider program icons and link it to the default system icon for 6.5 cause the reg that must indicates thta icon... as an example the Async.png is outside... so this is a screenshot of my current icons with the wrong registries

http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/6688/pccapture10l.png http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/263/pccapture11.png

The question here is... how can i translate that regs in the provxml to know where to place it and that way it matches with the start menu layout i have done in the initflashfiles?

Another one is... Can I instead of set that xtrange values set the human (:p) values like "File explorer" to the provxml???

And the last one is... this way... the provxml will convert that reg to folder connections into a real folder? or do i need to make it manually maybe via a ext pkg changing the regs to add the "group" key?

Thanks for all...

Any spec about other dpis for that 053 build from Tom Codon?

Export your reg entries that you need to convert to provxml and dragNdrop onto reg2xml.exe. Correct format for custom links:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\ Games\Undercover.lnk]
"Icon"="\\Windows\\HTC_nfs.png"
"Rank"=dword:ffffffe7
"Group"=dword:00000000
Easier to use app.reg, but here are some tools to convert XML2Reg, Reg2XML, Reg2Inf :)

Hi,

I cooked a ROM based on the build 23053 for Wizard, but the size of nk.nbf is about 13MB without removing any packages at all, while the ROM based on 23052 needed removing a lot of packages to make the nk.nbf about 56MB.

I don't know what's the problem.

Edit: Fixed it by removing _skip files. Thanks.

Hello my friend,

I have cook a wm6.5 rom for my ELF based on the CE and Build 21857, i have made graphics optimizations, and a lot of modules.

I would like to know what do you think about my memory map .

I use and old kernel because there is no wm6.5 kernel for the HTC ELF ( Htc )Touch)

Here is my memory map :

Hello my friend,

I have cook a wm6.5 rom for my ELF based on the CE and Build 21857, i have made graphics optimizations, and a lot of modules.

I would like to know what do you think about my memory map .

I use and old kernel because there is no wm6.5 kernel for the HTC ELF ( Htc )Touch)

Here is my memory map :

Memory Map...

Quick math on Slot 0.

0x00c50000 - 0x00060000 = 11.94MB Free.

So, my understanding is that you should recmod some more files so that you free up more slot0 space. I believe that 28MB Free has been talked about being good.

I have switched from kitchen Ervirus 1.6 to 1.8.2 and also upgraded to the latest build 23053. It seems my Config_Operator.txt file is not being used as I get error when starting for RUN *.XML and the customization process is stopped. I tried deleting 1 of the XML's from the Config_Operator.txt file but then it stopped on the next one.

Anyone have any ideas on what causes this?

In the newer kitchens, config_operator doesn't work. Put your customization xmls and cabs in an ext, and put the customization scripts in a file called add2config.txt (in the same EXT sub-folder). During cooking, the add2config will be compiled into config.txt. Before flashing, check the dump folder and make sure all you files are in there and that config.txt is correct.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\PeakStartTime
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\PeakEndTime
Value is DWord equal to number of minutes from midnight. e.g. 8am = decimal 480. 10pm = decimal 1320.

@Da-G: last builds had a problem in 0C0A lenguage. The sms can´t be send.
The problem solves with an old mui: Outres.dll.0C0A.mui from 21407???

But instead you can't create a sim contact.

I was looking inside the files, but in string, menu or dialog seems to be the same. But in the RCData this file has: IDR_TOOLBAR_BUTTONS_DLG_EDIT_DEL_PPC
that is not in the 23052 lang. I dont know how to work with it or if is the responsible of the problem. I attached the working file if someone wants to take a look.

I have been testing build 23052 for two days now and here is my overall impression:

Positives:

+ Taskbar works on all screens
+ Taskbar has nicer icons in color.
+ ActiveSync 'Peak Times' clock now includes 24 hour clock (on build 23047 it showed only the first 12 hours of a day).
+ Alignment of system dialogs is a little better.
+ Incoming text messages are received without any problems.

Negatives:

- Some of the expanded taskbar icons that only display when there is a new event (for example incoming text message notification) display in a blurry/jagged way.

- Some of the expanded taskbar icons do not correspond to the event. For example when I get an incoming text message I get the battery charge icon on the expanded taskbar instead of the text message icon!

- When I reply to text messages I get confirmation that the text message was sent, but the text message is not received by the recipient. This worked well on build 23047, so I don't know why we move one step ahead on some visual elements, but we move one step behind on functionality!

- When reading email messages, if I read one message after the other Outlook sometimes closes itself in the middle of reading a message. This is a new bug that was not present in build 23047 or previous versions. Again, it is very annoying to see us move one step ahead on visual elements, and one step behind on functionality.

- Some of the selection circles which had been fixed on build 23047 are now once again back as work in progress; example the selection circles in the volume dialog.

there is nothing wrong with the source files, either you have done something different with your oem/ext, or you have taskmanager in both ext and sys folders. i have used the exact same ones for my rom, as well as others with no problems. the files i upload should always be the same, i dont do them by hand i have tools that do them for me. i started leaving taskmgr.exe in sys after you complained last time lol is the only change ive made.

I just upgraded to build 23053 and for incoming text messages I am getting the RIGHT icon on the expanded menu. At least that was solved.

I was also able to send text messages, although not all of them reached the destination. That could be an operator issue though.

However the radio buttons on the volume tab are still showing up as work in progress. Sometimes I wonder if Microsoft doesn't incorporate those visual bugs on purpose to discourage people from hanging on to a beta version.

They are all in it, what you see in my taskbar is in that shellres.96.dll. CAB has phcanoverbmp dll & reg needed to set it for Battery.

Haaaaaaaa. Got it.. thanks. You definitely have skills with the skinning.

is it only me that gets "internet explorer cannot doesnload blank" with 23047 when i open IE? IE works, but i always get this message first...

obviously, not many people care about the IE function. anyway, the same error happens with 23052. i guess it has something to with webview.

i deleted, out of 23052, webview, BROWSING, BROWSINGCORE and browsingie, and replaced them by those from 21857. I was afraid IE might work without the error but SMS might not, however, everything worked.

the only issue (with hermes) is the new builds consume a lot of RAM...

After being unsuccessful at cooking build 23053 using osKitchen, I am forced to go back to 23052.

TPC was kind enough try to identify the source of the problem, but couldn't find it. He confirmed the problem though. I reloaded osKitchen from scratch, downloaded the TPC 23053 files, and the problem happens over and over again, even if I remove all EXT applications, EXT fixes, EXT settings, and even most OEM packages.

osKitchen is able to cook ROMs with a multitude of previous builds including 23052. Until Ondraster (the maker of osKitchen) investigates the issue I am afraid that I wont' be able to put together a Bare ROM for 23053.

If anybody is able to successfully cook build 23053 with osKitchen please let us know.

Here is a question for those of you who are constantly upgrading ROMs. I want to know how you go about restoring all your programs, settings, registration keys, etc.

I am currently using Sashimi to restore programs in cab format. It is very fast and reliable. However while that saves some time, I am still forced to manually configure my programs, enter registration keys, etc...and for approximately 60 programs that results in hours of work everytime I upgrade my ROM.

Is there an easy and/or convenient took for Windows Mobile that would allow me to identify where applications save registration key information, settings, etc; so that I could restore those settings/registration keys, etc. with Sashimi?

I have also used spbBackup (in upgrade ROM) mode, but that one only works for some ROMs upgrades. For me it worked up until 23037; but after that it caused problems with sms reception, and others.

With my PC I use a tool call Reg Organizer to identify all those changes during installation; but I haven't been able to find a comparable tool for Windows Mobile; and I am pretty sure that a lot of you are facing (or have faced) the same problems before.

I would appreciate hearing back from those of you who are willing to share your solutions around this topic.

The program for PPC is called WinDiff. Sashimi can import all the reg entries you create for all your settings, registration, etc.

TPC is the man! He solved the problem that I was having with being unable to cook build 23053 with osKitchen.

There was nothing wrong with osKitchen. It was my mistake (with a little help from Vista)

Here is what happened:

I left out the dsm, rgu, and some other needed files in msxipkernel. here is a screenshot showing the files I made (courtesy of TPC)

http://m-s-j.net/tpckitchen/witchey3.JPG

Missing some files during copying sounds kind of stupid. So why did I miss them?

Because Windows Vista considers those to be system files and hides them from my sight. I normally like to see everything in my system (system or not), but with Vista there is hidden files even on the desktop and that is pretty ugly. So I have system files hidden by default. What I would like to do is tell Vista that those registry extensions should not be considered system files, but I now need to search where I can do that.

So anybody who was waiting for this issue to be solved before cooking build 23053 with osKitchen, so ahead. Just make sure that if you are using Vista you don't forget the hidden files.

I use SkTracker for the PPC. It's not a free program, but it will identify changes made to the PPC anywhere, not just the registry. Basically, you run SKtracker to make an image of the device. Then, you enter your registration details in the program you want to find. Run SKTracker again and compare the two images. SKTracker will tell you all the differences between the two images.

I have stumbled upon the can't send SMS problem with 23047. Messages sit in the POutlook outbox and are never sent. I can receive OK. The problem persists after a hard reset.

Has anyone discovered a cause? I'm going to check my VM (using 6.1 nk, not 6.5), and build with 23053 and if that doesn't work go with 23047 and if that doesn't work go back to my 23016 ROM that I know works. But this isn't really solving the problem - just dodging it...

More detail. I can now get messages to leave my outbox, but if/when they do, I get a pop-up from the HTC Text Messages Retry program:

Text Messages Retry
{message ID}
{message recipient and first few characters}
Error Class : Temporary
Cause Code : SMS Org.D.

I can click retry but the message continues to reappear. Some research suggests this could be a problem with my account at Verizon. I'm going to flash a stock ROM just to rule this out. Then try 23053.

EDIT - stock ROM fails with same failure mechanism. Looks to be a problem with my account at my carrier. Next step - call to customer service geniuses...

yes nixeus, that is better :) you have 19.5mb free in slot 0 now. would probably be best to recmod a few more large modules and try to get it in the mid 20's...did you recmod like i recommended? if so you can also do adobe flash that should help.

its not all about having 0 modules in slot 0 with a 6.1 nk.exe, that is almost unachievable with a full rom. just get the count down as much as you can but the important thing is the amount of space that you have free and yours is getting better.

the problem ive ran into when trying to get 0 modules in slot 0 is that alot of modules dont respond well to being recmodded, and i had alot of crazy issues pop up in my rom. ive tried it just about every way i can think of and to me, module count isnt nearly as important as available space in vm. in other words, i think having say 27mb for free vm and 30-40 modules is better than having 0 modules and only 20mb of free vm. my full kaiser rom has 32 modules an 27mb of free vm, ive been doing it that way for months now and have had great results :)

Hey twopumpchump, can you plz share the list of modules that you recmod to get the best performance, there is so much confusion on this issue. In my case, i have 0 Modules in SLOT 0 and 29.3 MB of VM space, but my RAM fills up too fase with these settings. Is there any connection between these too, coz i feel so.

i just do the method i have shared with everyone before....

1. recmod all modules in browsing, browsingcore, browsingie

2. recmod widgets, office, one note, mstag, entertainment and make ext pkgs from them(same would be true with livesearch, windows live, myphone, skybox, skymarket but i dont include in my rom)

3. i also disable adc, autoupdate, rings and alerts, alarm sounds, sample music

if you need to recmod more than those then i would suggest trying adobe flash. this is only what i have learned from my own experience, im not guaranteeing it to be the best way its just what works for me with my kaiser rom.

recmod means to change file into module?

no, that is reverse mode(file to module). recmod is changing modules to files. what lockscreen fix of da_g's are you referring to?

But I have no modules in those browsing, browsingcore, browsingie folders. Only dll files. And as far as I know changing into modules gives better performance, right?

I'm talking about something that will solve my problem :p I have 23017 build and everytime I want to unlock my phone I have to tap on the clock before. That's strange. I've heard that Da_G has a fix for that...

you have a native 6.5 nk.exe with your diamond right? if so then you probably dont have to worry about recmodding modules...and yes modules are a little bit faster opening than files are.

i dont think da_g has a "fix" for having to touch the clock before you unlock but maybe im wrong. i dont have any "fix" applied and both my 23017 and 23053 roms i have flashed now lock-unlock perfect like they are supposed to without touching the clock or anything first besides the slider.

This may be a noob-ish question :) - but I would like to know...

Is it possible to have the lockscreen show more than one appointment? I use S2U2 and it shows 3, but some of my ROM users use the WM Lockscreen, and they say it only shows one appointment.

Thanks

I've not seen the issue. I don't use IE much though.

that's what i thought. this "internet explorer cannot download blank" error (23045/23047/23052) happens both on hermes and diamond with me either in 0409 (english) or in 0411 (japanese)... so i guess it is caused either by sys or the kitchen... facebook app does not work without properly working ie.

not much info about this error even on this site. well, i will use 21857 until this error goes away.

I do feel that 21857 so far is the best in terms of stability and software compatibility. That is why I am going bact to 21857 from 23053.

i agree w you. 230xx seems still under development, especially with the GUIs. i guess i need to keep watching the progress to start using the new GUI.
