21950 is a com2 branch ? > than 21864 ?

No, 219xx is MD1 branch. Its the old branch in which newer, experimental features were being developed. Now that work has been moved to COM3, thats why, as according to Da_G, this build will most probably wont have anything new in terms of features.

Hi,

I think I've found a new bug in build 23420. Open Contact (MS native contact) and add a photo to any contact and it will close without any error message. I've tested this with just the SYS and ROM.

I also tested it in build 23060 and it has no such problem.

Can anyone confirm this? A fix would be great but currently I'm switching over to 23060. Futher more, the Contact in 23420 is very slow when scrolling.

Can someone help me correct my startmenu background.

Not sure why it is getting cut and tiled - just want it to fill the screen.

Is it in my CPR file - StartMenu_GridScene?? or my TSK file?

Thanks

DT

edit: seems to be the same for my lockscreen.

@d_train: Try opening your tsk file with WinCE Cab Manager. The wallpaper might be embedded in that. I had the same issue with one of amarullz's theme. He had a blank grey wallpaper embedded in the tsk file but nowhere else. I was scratching my head as to why I couldn't get my wallpaper to work any which way and it turned out to be that.

That's the one you want dude. That'll be overwriting your wallpaper.

You can either delete these or replace them in the .tsk (in WinCE Cab Manager) with your own wallpaper file (after being renamed to the right filename of course). If you delete them you'll need to venture to SYS\23060\dpi_192_resh_480_resv_640\COMMON\base_dp i_192_resh_480_resv_640; In there you'll find all your background image files.

The background file for the start menu is just a semi-transparent black image. It simply overlays over the regular background whenever you open the start menu. The files are StartMenu_Background_Screen_480x640.png (portrait) and StartMenu_Background_Screen_640x480.png (Landscape).

Throughout my post you'll obviously need to replace 480 and 640 with your appropriate resolution. And 192 DPI with your correct DPI.

Replacing them in the .tsk file is the easiest method IMHO. Then you can just leave your SYS files as is.

Open up your corresponding StartMenu_GridScene*.cpr (where * stands for your phone's resolution (There are two of them, one for landscape and one for the regular mode)) then edit the columns to whatever you want. (Try to make the columns on the lanscape at least one set of icons larger to make it look good.)

They're not from the same build branch. Please read the thread. As already mentioned, 23060 is from the COM3 branch where all the GUI changes are added and 23420 is from the COM4 branch where all the internal code changes are added. The changes have also already been discussed.

Sorry ivanmmj but what benko286 is describing sounds like a slightly different issue to the missing buttons on the dialog boxes. He's referring to random missing soft key icons on his start bar.

@benko286: If using a gwes.exe from a previous build - 23049 is posted a few pages back - then your kitchen is most likely corrupted somehow. I'd try starting with a fresh kitchen and try again. The only other explanation is that you managed to delete the corresponding files for the buttons. Again a fresh kitchen will help. Just copy over your EXT and any modified SYS/OEM files you might have and you're right to go again.

maybe theme is fault using amarullz blueblack theme..i have gwes from 23049 used bogys zip few pages ago...

btw it is not that there are no soft key icons, icons are blank(there is a circle but it is blank inside..maybe it will be best to post screenshot?)..

Yeah I know what you mean. The image is missing inside the button. It's not amarullz theme - It doesn't change any of those images.

I can't find those images in my kitchen... They must be hidden there somewhere maybe in a dll or something. I'd try a fresh kitchen, keep your old one of course for copying your modified stuff over.

there's two way to fix missing button issue
1.delete pushbutton reg key in tsk file(change back to old style)
2.use old build's gwes.exe(new style button, but maybe bring some issue)
and about the contact, I dont have issue there, only the right soft key shows "call" not a picture loke others, I think maybe M$ havend prepare yet ;)
and the trashcan with del... issue is fix in these two build(23060 and 23420)

Hey Kane,
Re: delete pushbutton reg key in tsk file, i wasn't aware of this fix. Does this mean i can use the gwes from 23060 IN 23060. Are there any problems by doing this?
As for you saying 'delete pushbutton reg key in tsk file', you mean the classic blue.tsk right? This is what i see in mine with pushbutton:

EDIT: Don't worry Kane, i have just deleted the whole key and the buttons are ther (old style). MANY THANKS for this tip to you and whoever else was involved!

You know - hex editor is mostly EDITOR - not viewer.... If you know exactly where to look - it means you know exactly where to edit to make the fake build.... Do you think it's a good idea to ask or publish that? Noting personal but if I tell that here for you - that means I will tell that to everyone.....

...And if anybody knows how to remove msalarm and activesync icon from start menu?...
Your msalarm looks shitty because you either did not use the right mxipinit_startmenu_001.provxml (missed lines for Alarms) or you miss dedicated png file in BaseDPI. If you anyway want to get rid of both shortcuts - rtomakov already told how to.....

Does anyone know if there is an XML resizing utility? Or a formula to convert WVGA to VGA or QVGA?

I am trying to port over some apps that are WVGA and and manually going through all the XML's and changing the values, but I never know if I calculate it correctly - halving really makes it WQVGA, not QVGA and I am yet to go through the WVGA to VGA conversion.

Anyway, thought I'd ask if someone had a little utility to assist me :)

I had the unnatural checkbox too. Once I replaced the gwes.exe module in os it solved the problem. The gwes.exe I used came from the common files found at the following link:

http://www.4shared.com/file/136583600/58448fa4/SYS_23060_Common.html

To remove active sync and msalarms from the start menu go to the shell module and delete async shortcut and msalarms shortcut. This is how I got rid of the simtoolkit shortcut in the kitchen.

Hope that helps.

Check out a utility called "PLG Resizer" which is used by the Titanium plugin devs and skinners use to create other res versions of their PLG files (which are just the XML segments that get inserted into the CPR files for the plugin).

Just curious ... is there a consensus yet on whether it is better to use the GWES replacement or pushbutton.reg deletion to fix the yes/no buttons in 23060?

Hey decoy,
Just my opinion here but i tried the gwes from 23053 in 23060 and it worked well, os was quite snappy. Then i put the gwes from 23060 back in but without changing the pushbutton regedit, (just had no msgbox buttons) and didn't set the new GUI and again quite snappy and (IMO) it seemed to release RAM quicker after closing an app. Now i have the gwes from 23060 in and have done the pushbutton regedit and set the new GUI, i think its a little laggier - not bad but just doesn't seem to be as snappy as before now i have the new GUI set up. Just my opinion though.
Hope this helps.

Activesync is hiding in initflashes.dat - Look for a line with "sync".lnk as that is the corresponding lnk file for ActiveSync.

anybody know where to get 23060 taskbar(so that i dont have any issues with softkeys)?

and i have another problem i cant get working to open sip menu(keyboard menu) i have found some biotouch.dll, but after i overwite it and softreset device when i press on keyboard icon to open keyobard it opens left soft key/right soft key

The one I PM'ed you with works fine for 23060 - Does for me anyway...

I gave up on the SIP Menu - Allow the keyboard change via Registry only as the old biotouch.dll breaks other stuff for me...

The RTM was 21234, but apparently some Vendors will/do have some ROMs that will be coming out with COM2 builds (i.e. 218XX builds). There are also some forks for Vendor specific trees (236XX and 22XXX come to mind)

Yup, unfortunately the Official WM6.5 ROM is reminiscent of the older 23xxx builds such as 23016. :( I was able to play around with 21854 a little since Itje has gotten his hands on an official release. I was wondering at first why it looked like an older 23xxx build, then someone enlightened me and educated me a little about it being the real official release of WM6.5. I was indeed disappointed with the old style interface, but I'm sure it won't be too long before the official releases get upgraded to the interfaces that we are used to in the newest 23xxx builds and 24xxx builds. :D So until then I will be sticking with Itje and his 23xxx build. I grew accustomed to the interface. It sure is great to hear that WM6.5 Officially is here though.

Hey decoy,
Just my opinion here but i tried the gwes from 23053 in 23060 and it worked well, os was quite snappy.

Secc

can you please (or someone) explain how to fox 23060 by this "pushbutton regedit"?
what do i need to look for in kitchen files & what need to change in order to show the buttons with 23060 gwes?

Inside all the TSK files in 23060, the _setup.xml file contains several reg keys/values that are added whenever that theme is activated.

There is a key "PushButton" (and 24 values under it) that map image files to the YES/NO/ETC buttons on pop-up dialogs.

That key has been there for a few versions but the GWES in 23060 seems to have been changed to look for these values under different val names (which are unknown to us), so even though the images are there the GWES isn't finding them and hence the buttons appear invisible.

Apparently there is some kind of "sanity check" in GWES that first checks for the existence of the PushButton key and if not found it defaults back to the old classic buttons.

The "fix" is basically to remove that "PushButton" key from the registry (in a running ROM) and to edit the _setupxml in each TSK (theme file) and remove the whole PushButton section.

It works (I am using it right now) and I have edited all of the TSK files. Although I am also going to have to create a reg or provxml to get rid of that reg key on first install because otherwise the buttons are invisible until I re-run the Classic Blue theme.

I have only done the QVGA_96dpi theme files for myself but if that helps, see attached :)

If after a couple of theme changes the problem returns, then it happened to me.
The problem disappeared when i changed rom.My themes were working perfectly then.
The problem i had was that the changing of the theme did not appear in the registry and the system used some peculiar default color values and theme values.
The problem is in the cooking technique but i have not spedified it.

Maybe I should make a new rule,

For every person that wastes forum space asking for a new build i'll be avoiding posting in this thread for 1 more day :)

Languages/DPI, missing parts of builds, etc is OK to request, but new builds will be released when they are released. End of story as far as that is concerned :)

Yes 23064 does contain Metadata and wwan files, but 23063 and 23064 miss few files.

I don't remember which are the files I took from 63420 right now. But check properly before cooking.
