i solved it already some months ago. but i don't remember how i did it....

the only major issue with 23071 (0411 japanese) that i found was the ring and alert screen. i cannot change the ring tone, and once i open the screen it does not close even if i click ok. since no one is talking about it, i guess it has something to do with *.mui.

does anybody know which *.mui controls the ring and alert screen??

Not sure what kitchen you are using or what device, but you may be missing parts of the boot.rgu file

see if this is in your file at the end...

I think you are already aware of initflashfiles.dat and initflashfiles.txt files. You can also use the related provxml file to do this.

These characters are ASCII characters and you can change them to human readable characters.
If you change this to the thing that you want you will lose the previous one.
So it's better to copy this and paste it under the folder you want. Then you can modify it to the thing you want.

Something like this:

I am running build 23071 of WM 6.5, but when I try to install my applications using Sashimi installer the installation process freezes up or reboots after installing a few applications (but before installing all of them).

The reboot process takes a long time and I eventually get a white screen with black text stating that the phone will be reset (loosing all programs and data) as a result of turning off the phone incorrectly or installing an application from an untrusted source.

Does anybody know how to deal with that problem? All the applications I use installed perfectly OK on 23053 through Sashimi. Is there a registry setting that I can apply during the burning process to dissable the check for 'applications from untrusted sources'?

I am using an old version of osKitchen to cook build 23071 because its the only one that runs properly on the loaner computer that I am currently using (XP Prof). My regular computer is being repaired by HP after a huge lightning induced power surge hit our home.

However even build 1.03 of osKitchen has the option you mentioned and I DID select it.

Easiest way to get it to show up, is to find the OEM cab file floating around and reinstall it, the shortcut appears fine now. I've had to do this on the last few builds.

Everyone has ran into this issue. You can see here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/search_rop.php?searchid=29263045) from the three pages that I got from searching "taskmanager not close" in this thread alone. I dont want to be an a-hole, but just looking over a few random pages you will see this question(it is asked every other day I think). Use showcase or just dont worry about it since the system will close apps as it needs memory.
You are looking in correct place for wait cursor, look at the bitmap resources(I think 4609 up to ?)

As stated in an earlier post I have been having problems installing 3rd party software on build 23071. A little while ago I was trying to install some software using the cab files that I had on my 16 GB microsdhc card and suddenly the card stopped working.

I have removed the card and reinserted it on the phone and it is no longer recognized. The same thing happens when I try to use the card on my notebook computer.

If the card is not recognized on the phone OR the notebook computer is it dead (in which case I would need to contact Sandisk for a warranty exchange), or is there a way to get it to work again?

I can't even format it on the notebook computer because while the computer recognizes the micro sdhc adapter it doesn't recognize the card. It wants me to 'insert' the card into the adapter, when the card is already there....

i am using ervius visual kitchen for diamond. you are right that these reg entries are missing in boot.rgu. (not sure if i deleted them myself...) i will check if they will resolve my issue.

BTW, OT, I have been working on some stuff lately that may interest you. Stuff like cleaning the registry hive files so that when you remove packages, they are no longer referenced. Also, AFAIK, no one before me has successfully removed MediaOS but kept the bare essentials for WMA/MP3 ringtones working. I have been discovering many, many inefficiencies in the sources for pretty much all cooking around here and I will soon post about my discoveries.

Zoom, is very well done (don't need the slider), XDA is very readable now :)
Double tap still zooms in.

No, COM5 is not WM7. It is a continuation of the WM 6.5.x code.

WM7 is a completely different tree.

Do not expect any current device to run WM7. It is certainly possible, but the OEM will have to go out of their way to code drivers/kernel for it, and it is not a likely thing. Very few current devices will receive such an update.

Snapdragon/OMAP3+ devices are likely to get WM7 support.

Anything older than that is not likely to get WM7 support and will likely be end-of-life'd with WM 6.6.

Remember, with all current "cooking" we are using code based on CE 5.x kernel, so is relatively easy to port to newer builds.

Once we move up to a CE 6.x or 7.x kernel, the same principles no longer apply. The entire set-up of the OEM part of the kernel and the Microsoft part of the kernel is different (better now, after WM7 it will be much easier to update the microsoft bits while keeping the same OEM bits) So do not expect any current device to be running WM7 in the future (although a select few may, as they are/will be used for test devices.)

hey folks .. getting a running sys from the 23071 200mb pack is a pain if you use ervius kitchen.. so i want to share my bat that reorganizes the sys .. probably not only this sys but also sys from ppckitchen (i think so) .. keep your downloads, i provide this batch but take not responsibility if anything won't work for you..
usage: put all folders together in one - run the bat from inside this folder .. read cli messages .. use in evk

if you miss something you should be able to add/modify the bat yourself; or send a pm

jep, but only its a windows bat file and i tried dumpsorter .. this project was way too much for my needs.. this bat file simply sorts the folders so you can use the sys in evk

try extract the 23071-all-in-one.zip and start the batfile inside the folder ... after executing look down to "z_organized" where the files are..

if you don't know how to use a bat or you don't use ervius kitchen or you download preselected sys packages from various kitchen threads - you won't need this anyway..

I suggest a bath to automatically sort your build. It's simple, can be a bit long but it works! when the directories are sorted, it'll just delete the resolutions or language that does not interest you.

If anybody knows how to operate the. Bat with a command like "Send to" I am a buyer.

Build Sorter.bat to adapt to your resolution, language, DPI change this:

set LANG = 0409
Set RESOL = dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320
PGD = set DPI_96

As far as MS upgrading the kernel of WM to CE6, I think you misunderstand what's required, it's already done as far as MS is concerned. There is a tree with the same UI/UX, features, etc. as WM 6.5.x but based on the CE 6 core instead of CE 5. But the OEM needs to come in and re-code their stuff against it. Which I don't believe any of them are doing at this point in time. Maybe in the future... It's not like an upgrade from XP SP1 to XP SP2 where you can just drop in the new bits and hit the ground running..

It's more like an upgrade from XP x86 to XP x64. Same GUI, same functionality, but running on a different core, and none of the drivers work. So the OEM has to re-code their drivers. When/If that happens we can surely have a CE6 based WM build on that device. But given the history of most OEM's issuing major OS updates, I wouldn't hold my breath for it on current devices (the most recent cores like snapdragon/OMAP3+ being a possible exception)

I built a batch file and placed it in the SendTo folder of my own user. Then sent a file to it and it worked fine with no problem.

The command that I used was : attrib.exe %1 +r +s +h

Shame that we won't be able to upgrade our devices to CE6 based WM6.5.x but good to know that WM7 will be using CE7 as the core. It gives it great potential - mutli core CPU support, hardware FPU support, silverlight, IE7+ class browser. Can't wait for MWC 2010 where MS will announce WM7.
Do you think that with WM7 MS will make the OS less OEM dependant and will allow device updated bypassing OEM and operator? This way situation like this wouldn't repeat itself in the future.

Besides it's a good indication that finally WM is getting the attention it needed.

Initial alphas of WM7 were based on CE6, but have been CE7 for about a year now.

As far as MS upgrading the kernel of WM to CE6, I think you misunderstand what's required, it's already done as far as MS is concerned. There is a tree with the same UI/UX, features, etc. as WM 6.5.x but based on the CE 6 core instead of CE 5. But the OEM needs to come in and re-code their stuff against it. Which I don't believe any of them are doing at this point in time. Maybe in the future... It's not like an upgrade from XP SP1 to XP SP2 where you can just drop in the new bits and hit the ground running..

It's more like an upgrade from XP x86 to XP x64. Same GUI, same functionality, but running on a different core, and none of the drivers work. So the OEM has to re-code their drivers. When/If that happens we can surely have a CE6 based WM build on that device. But given the history of most OEM's issuing major OS updates, I wouldn't hold my breath for it on current devices (the most recent cores like snapdragon/OMAP3+ being a possible exception)

And no, WM 6.6 wasn't a typo... :) But don't expect to start seeing builds of that until 6.5.x is polished up and we're into 2010 a bit.

The upgrade path for current devices has us staying on the CE 5.x kernel and the highest-tier devices (snapdragon and similar faster chips like tegra and omap3+) will be getting WM7. This is due to numerous features implemented in WM7 that require a higher end device than the current crop.

You're making the wait more unbearable than it was before :p
For now it seems that the core will be very powerful and potent. It will give the possibility of developing really great applications and games(considering on what kind of hardware it will run impossible is nothing).
Hopefully the standard apps will be top-notch surpassing those of maemo and webOS this way OEM's wouldn't have to replace them with custom ones.

Can you comment on the UI itself? Will it be similar to the leaked pictures or was it already changed?

Just a short note to thank Da_G for the 23071 source files he posted in this forum, and to TPC for the nice adjustments he made to the files.

While I was having a few issues with build 23071 they were related to a defective memory card on my phone (16GB Sandisk card stopped working after about 8 months). I personally consider build 23071 to be a completely finished version of WM 6.5. I haven't come accross a single unfinished dialog (like in previous versions); and everything seems to be running smoothly.

Unless I come accross a major bug (none so far), this will be the last Bare ROM I cook for a while. The frequent updates to WM 6.5 resulted in a lot of work to load all my programs, settings, etc before the next one came out. After doing that for a while I gave up and ended up with a crippled phone.

Now its time to enjoy WM 6.5, and my personal choice is to stick with 23071. I don't plan to cook another ROM for at least a few months.

P.S. Does anybody know if the lock screen media player function is being planned for WM 6.5 or if that is a feature that MS plans to implement in WM 7?

I'm using 23071 build the last couple of days and I mention a really fast battery drain problem. Battery goes from full to 50% in 7-8 hours with no use and in standby mode.
I read that some others have battery drain problems too before some pages.
Is there any solution for this?

I had this problem a couple of roms back. I'd cooked the wrong rilphone.dll into the rom. Make sure that the rilphone you use matches the radio you're using, it makes a huge difference!

Still can't make SIP other than the standard one to work with 23071. It's working fine in build 23060. Other than that 23071 is faster and fixed unfinished graphics work from previous builds.

Metadata folder is missing on the full xip/sys download, but the one uploaded by md_bluelily has been cooked & yet it doesn't solve the problem. Any other suggestions, please?

i didnt do it... but some user of my rom say it is an issue that if you set two accounts of the same email provider the messages pops ups so often! and the runing apps gets closed... is that true..???

Edit: in fact this sounds stupid once i read it jajaja pops up often of course if you have so much activitie in your email account and set automatically sync, or is any option to disable this pop ups to not have my current app get closed... this is due to a older poor ram device.

I built a batch file and placed it in the SendTo folder of my own user. Then sent a file to it and it worked fine with no problem.

The command that I used was : attrib.exe %1 +r +s +h

I just made the bump up to com3 (23060 with 23053 gwes), and have to say that it's pretty cool! There are some things that I don't like about it, but I think I'll stick with it. I found I could fix the spacing of items in Regedit using these tweaks, if anyone cares:

I checked here and didn't see it mentioned, but there's a thread (http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=23816) on it on the total commander forum. Looks like there will be an update soon that works well with 6.5.1.

That too is very true. It's almost hard to cook and perfect our ROMs with the current build before another build hits our hot little hands.

Is there a guide on how to port a driver from another device to another which is using the same processor. For example porting the TNET driver from Tachi to Touch Pro? I tried cooking the Tachi driver to my Touch Pro without doing anything and my Touch Pro won't boot (stuck at the Touch Pro splash screen). Does it has anything to do with the need to resign the driver? If so, pointing me to such documents would be great.

If you are using VK you have a tab named "from module to file". Otherwise, do a search about recmod tools.

What would cause 23071's tmail to remain open when you exit 'X', disabling the ability to run any task manager's (Showcase, TaskFacade)?
It takes over my screen by leaving the 'SMS / Email' title on the top of the display, and lags the device?

It's fine if i load directly to SMS or Email, but if I open the application to the Account Selection menu than select an account, and try to exit --- it forces me to soft-reset in order to gain control of my device...

Once this happens, I can no longer reasonably use my phone :(

From what I can understand, Windows Mobile uses FWUPDATE (FirmWare Update) to do the initial setup of the device; hence it crashes after a hard reset.

for dumpxip u need to change the bytes to FE 03 00 EA that it can read the xip start

Hmm.. the xip posted does not have the C7 16 00 EA bytes.

EDIT: Anyway I've successfully dump the xip using the dumprom.exe I've found earlier. However I need to manually choose the files needed and manually convert them into modules. Trying to cook now.

the os works ok, but after several soft-resets the os doesn't boot anymore, the provider-logo is freezed at startup...

i have read this too in several post before...

You need the custsat.dll from SQM to be there for the ROM to boot.
