Mi_MediaSupport v2 was not a good idea! I tried it and this happend:

With one of the videos I get a picture but it is currupt.

Bad thing:
Background picture (from default theme) is gone and in start menu the pictures of the icons will not be deleted when srolling. I got three rows of icons printed over and over again (I saw a picture like that somewhere in this thread). And the cab could not be uninstalled. I have to do a hard reset. :(

Thanks for your offer in the pointers and making your findings available to me. I'll definitely take you up on that. I'm just using the lightest WM6.5.1 ROM I can find for my current device and still think there is just a little more that can be squeezed out of it.

Besides trying to install most of the HTC/base apps outside the ROM into a program subfolder, I was thinking about removing the following to reduce the amount of files in the Windows folder:

87 CPR files that don't match my device's resolution. 1.18MB
70 HTML files. 255KB
79 Non-english KBD files. 192KB
19 Non-english LBD files. 3.78MB
136 Calculator image files. 404KB. I was going to replaced with SPB Calc that uses 2 image files.
28 P20-* Non-english PNG files. 1.11MB
327 Theme PNG files. 0.98MB
102 Shortcuts. 1.87KB
6 TSK files. 879KB
72 Start Icon. I was thinking of having these installed in the post customization and in its own folder. Which I am assume will work flawlessly since you can specify their location in the registry. Plus when you are trying to customize your Start Menu, IconChanger doesn't even let you select a PNG saved in the ROM.

Sure Programatix...I'd love to write up some batch file when I figured this out. I'll throw some question/choice popups to give cooks whether they want all of it automated or give them step-by-step confirmations. Give me a week or two to clear up some work projects and I'll look into this.

Actually, the main advantage I see here has to do with what I learned in the Extendir thread. The more files you have in your windows folder, the slower your device becomes overall. 12 MB IMO is very insignificant but 801/3638 is a pretty good chunk and their removal will certainly speed up accesses to other files in the windows folder.

i'm having trouble and not solve. My device is a i900 omnia. My rom only has an icon in the start menu. "home". Not show nothing others: File explorer, internet, settings, contacts, java, camera, nothing, none... Someone can gives a helping hand?

it seems that you have tried to make another lang but english rom... Didnt change the initflashfiles, and the shortcuts for your apps, and custom folders, check them, and translate them... Btw the initflashfiles for many langs are in the first post... Hope so... Jejeje

i'm trying to make a rom in pt-br (lang 0416) and is my first rom. Even with the original initflash (pt-br) the icons do not appear. Any ideas? Anyway i will test.

First make 0409 roms.... Look at the shortcuts open them by droping into a note file... See the file and folder structures... Then analize the initflashfiles.dat deeply, change the mui entries in boot.rgu in oemxipkernel... Then once you get it! Switch to another lang... Hard for me to undersatnd the process but even tho is hughe.

Ok check this out...
Cook your issue ROM 0416 without shortcuts...
Go to the folder windows and check if you have two diferent folders for "START MENU"...
Maybe you have the folder "Start Menu" and another folder called "Menu Inicio" (0C0A)
This is due to a improper Initflash, EXT Eng packages (you must to translate them too)...
Or check the BOOT.RGU inside you must to find the regs that da_G mention in post 3 or 4??

check that folders in start menu there you just must to have your lang folders maybe the Help and appbuttons remains in eng.

I install my start menu with a .cab file-that saves me from having about 150 .lnk files in the \windows folder. And I install all my program files with a zip file using a mortscript (unzipall). It works very well, and saves a few hundred files. For whatever reason, I haven't had any luck installing the start menu with a zip file during customization (it works after first boot; not sure why it hangs during customization). Zip files are great, they install really quickly and save you a ton on the # of files. They're much faster than cabs. If you want to install all the icon files to a different directory, then I'd recommend using a zip file.

It's pretty easy to find the excess files. Just search on the sys folder for "icon," and you'll find all of the icon-png's (they're in one folder). Search for 'spring,' and you'll find the folder with the crappy wallpaper. You can just not cook in the themes. I use a modified orange one, but delete all the others (saves like 300 files). The start menu links are all over the place, and it took me a while to find and remove them all. I use a modified initflashfiles.dat, so no links are put in that I don't want, and I've editted all the prov.xml's that create links as well. There are only a couple start menu links I don't have a handle on (weather and money widgets-not sure how they're created or how to stop it). You can look through the temp/dump folder of the kitchen and see all the .lnk, .png and .provxml's that are giving you problems, and then search for them in the kitchen and remove them. The .cpr's are easy to locate-just load up the kitchen, then open up the lockscreen and chome folders and delete all the odd resolutions. Make sure you don't delete the slider files, though. There are three files that have a weird size that you need. Basically, for every type of .cpr, you delete 10 files and keep 2. But when you see the one that just has 3 files, save them or you will have problems.

One thing to remember is that you have a 6.5 native kernel to work with. You won't speed things up by moving .dll's to other locations. You want to have as many modules as you can. With a light rom, you'll never use up all the virtual memory slots, but you do want to take advantage of it.

Edit: the slider cpr's have this type of name: SlidingPanel_240x320.cpr. I have 21 cpr's in my windows folder, and if you don't trim out the fat, you have over a hundred.

Most of the provxml files are registry settings. One way I reduced the number of files in the windows folder is used xml2rgu to convert the provxml to a reg file and then copy-pasted this to the end of the rgu file. This allowed me to remove most all of my provxml files except those that had non-registry stuff in them.

Jejeje was right, I have too much "Start Menu". But even if I copy the shortcuts to other folders they do not appear in the main menu. And when I give two clicks on the start menu icons that I had copied they are deleted.

The wallpaper isn't properly aligned without Titanium, but it is being pushed down by the taskbar. With Titanium enabled or in the Start Menu, the wallpaper displays correctly. Just look at the attached image and notice how part of the (subtle) green bubble on the top right is under the semi-transparent taskbar (it should be like this), but without Titanium, everything is pushed down.

That should be normal behavior. Titanium uses the whole screen for the wallpaper where normally you have to use a wallpaper that is screen height - taskbars (640 - taskbars).

i have cooked latest COM3 Build from da_g for the htc touch diamond 1 german edition.

i have offered my rom for public beta test. after 200 downloads one user reports that this build have a big problem with the new contact manager.

so the problem is:

i cannot add a new contact to my phonebook...

can anyone help me two fix this problem...

i don't know why this problem are discovered after 200 users...
so public beta test is most important...

Now I have all I need, but the extracted xip.bin is like 2.88Mb, the 23081 from Da_G is 3.84Mb.. I miss something? How can I extract the msxipkernel folder?
Maybe someone have already done?

Ok I had a quick play with build 23085 and it seems to be working fine. Not a lot changes though the only thing I've noticed is a new "zoom out" icon in magnifier.

I hope I was wrong but after syncing with my phone, my Fuze had random hard reset and later refuse to boot saying I "may have install software from unsafe source..."
Maybe MS wants to kill off any leak builds.

The unstablity could be caused by the Manila 2.5 packages, but be warned and make backup of your data.
My shell is patched for timebomb.

Anyone else has this issue?

I have had no issues either. Are you using the titanium (chome) or manila?

It's all explained very well (with pictures!) in rgb's tutorial that's linked in one of the first posts of the thread. It takes about 10 minutes for a noob (like me) to do. You can do it much faster than posting demands for the msxipkernel and waiting for the upload/download, not that that stops anyone.

That should be normal behavior. Titanium uses the whole screen for the wallpaper where normally you have to use a wallpaper that is screen height - taskbars (640 - taskbars).

mmmm ok, I use a tool on xda, names
ImgfsToDump
and in that thread it change tool name to xidump_v1.0_beta
download it then unpack
put your xip.bin file inside the bin folder you just unzip
then created a new bat file, write
xidump.exe -b xip.bin
inside the bat file
then run the bat file,the xip will start to dump
and if you want to dump flash.dio,just write
xidump.exe -b FLASH.DIO
inside the bat,then run it( flash.dio must put next to that bat file)
it'll dump all , XIP OEM SYS brabrabra

With this build 23085 and the last one 23081 the hardware buttons and softkeys that i normally have set (right softkey to total commander and hardware key to new comm manager) aren't being set. After boot up, neither keys are working although the right softkey has the correct text (TComm). I have checked everything and seems right. OK what am I missing here? -- I just cooked up a 23081 for the kaiser, and all seems OK except there are no Phone settings. I click on Options in the dialer and it does nothing. Likewise there is no Phone settings icon in the control panel.

What's the filename of the phone settings control panel? I'll see if it's in /windows and if so I'll know I'm just missing a registry setting somewhere.

A couple suggestions...

1st.- dont use so long folder names like diamond-blablablabl-blablabla-blablabla\\\\\

Change your kitchen name to a single word I use "XDA"

2nd.- sometimes when the xip.bin is not inserted is due to 2 things... maybe the xip.bin is not in the right place or is form another device... i think it has oemxipkernel from another device and not match with payload or romhdr

Hi.

I don't have shell32 timebombed for this version,but i try with another version and gaves me the same error.

I change the name of the folder to a name smaller, and this is a oemxipkernel for this rom because i download a rom to this device and it works in native.

I only change the ext folder to mines, the initflashfiles.dat and the lang files in sys folder.

I think this is quite simple...

I'm guessing you have Custom_RUU.exe or some other .exe inside the folder named RELEASE_[DEVICE NAME]...


Just move it out of the folder and it'll work like a charm.

OK what am I missing here? -- I just cooked up a 23081 for the kaiser, and all seems OK except there are no Phone settings. I click on Options in the dialer and it does nothing. Likewise there is no Phone settings icon in the control panel.

What's the filename of the phone settings control panel? I'll see if it's in /windows and if so I'll know I'm just missing a registry setting somewhere.

Edit registry: HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\ and delete the Redirect key.

And search before you post, this has been answered many times already...

i can not add "new contacts" with the prog "contact"

i have added an picture-row, nothing happens after this picture-row.
no effects, i have choose "new outlook-contact, or other (sim, email, news", if i push the button "choose".

after this picture, the normal contact-list display and i can choose an contact from my contact-list...

new button doesn't work...

does anyone have a solution for this ???

I like to use these keys as a branding for my ROM. Does anyone know which files I need from build 23081 to get it working in 23085?

I've tried cooking my first ROM with the Ervius kitchen. I copied all the folders/files in the SYS and Rom folders. I create the ROM and flashed it to my phone. The phone starts up, configures everything, asks to calibrate the screen, and then goes to the home screen. But the only problem is all the fonts from the starting of Windows Mobile is all in a Wingdings font. Is there something I was suppose to do in the kitchen or maybe I forgot a certain file?

Everything is functional, I can go into settings, apps, etc as long as I don't rely on the font/text. I ended up reflashing some one elses ROM and it works but I would really like to customize my ROM with the apps and reg edits I like to do.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what I might be doing wrong?

You probably need the shell32.exe. But if you're going to use and old shell, you might as well just use the old build, don't you think?

Unfortunately, not without the source code for your device. (That's the same reason no one else gets a native 6.5 nk.exe until HTC leaks it.)

Check your EXT's. You probably changed the wrong registry key somewhere.

The problem seems to be that I don't have the phone control panel at all , I've selected Phone and PhoneRedist in SYS..

I hade small problems with the lockscreen when I deleted CHome and Bronze. The extra slider when you gat an SMS didn't show up anymore. I also deleted all the lockscreen stuff and used S2U2 instead.

It shouldn't make it stop working. I've always removed it with no ill (known) effect.

Impossible.. cause images for lockscreen and the cprs for the entire scenary is inside lockscreen, lockscreenEA or "NonEa" (WWE) and its DPI_XXX if you delete them the rom boots fine even tho without Startmenu it boots fine :p

Check your ext packages to see if one is making you troubles at registries.

If you see the Device Beta is wrong maybe you can go and edit that old post cyberdine... :cool:

It's got to be in the shell32.exe, don't you think? That's where the timebomb is, and the registry settings are shell settings. Just try cooking in the 23081 shell32.exe, you'll probably get it back (but then again, you might as well just use the whole 23081 sys).

Nonea is the slide to unlock, but I think you need both to get it to work. (The other has lockscreen.dll in it, I believe.) If you just want the classic lock, I think you can leave out Nonea. (Lol, just read the response below.)

you need to delete it from your ext pkg, its overwriting the one in sys.

Jajajaja! I used shell23.exe from build 23081 in my 23085 ROM and now I have my Beta information (in use it as a branding for my ROM) back. I just flashed the ROM so I cannot say if the "old" shell32.exe makes trouble with all other files from 23085.

I cut 085 SYS and paste 053 SYS and this operation shows me where is this bug in SYS or in OEM...=SYS...and adresses of modules are the same in 085 and 053...conclusion = bug from MS

I dont think you need the shell32. Seems to be working well for me with just the older physicsengine :)

There's not much point in using the htcutil from it

to control backlight manually you need the correct backlight.dll

Hi,

I am using 23071\81 build and replaced the classicblue_bubble_flag.png but i still see the default flag on the today screen.

When i goto the start menu i get back the windows flag (classicblue_bubble_flag.png) which i have replaced in the windows folder.

Is there a way to fix it?? i havn't faced this in 23060 build...

1) In every COM2 build, tapping on the battery icon does nothing. I can't go to the ower settings. I tried cooking with large title bar installed, but even in that the battery icon just doesn't show up!

2) I also cannot install any keyboards like fingerkeyboard. The software installs, but when I go to switch to fingerkeyboard, it stays on as the default keyboard.

Any help please? I'm kinda desperate :(

For the battery, you can use the OEM/PKG "HTC Menu enhancement" ;)
